I must say that this is one of the worse hotel experiences I have had. I found the place to be very out of date and not up to cleaning standards. The bed covers were very old, the curtains did not close properly, the bathroom was not clean, there was no remote for the TV.... more

The Roundhouse hotel has the potential to be a lovely hotel however there are many things that were disappointing about our stay. To begin with we booked a superior room, which to our standards was far from superior. We were informed the room would be spacious, well... more

Shocking
This place was shocking!!!! Rather like a trip back in time to a butlins holiday camp for hen and stag parties. The room was dirty the top of the taps kept coming off, the toilet sometimes didn't flush, the curtains didn't close, the lifts were permanently out of order..... It really was absolutely shocking and the only guests appeared to be men dressed as women on their stag nights and other drunken young people. Noise until approx 5am of people returning to their rooms knocking on each others doors..... The staff were polite enough but for £100 a room (Saturday night) I would rather buy a rusty car to sleep in for the night. Really only suitable if you're on a stag do - it's a relationship breaker if booked for a romantic weekend away!!!!
Basic but functional
Was in Bournemouth for a half day of meetings and wanted a no-frills place to stay. The Roundhouse fit the no-frills bill perfectly. It is well located, however, 10 minutes' walk from the central station. The rooms show their age and my travel companion and I had a good laugh at the ancient looking checkered blankets on our beds. They weren't even the same color and basically nothing matched in the room. The breakfast was adequate, nothing fancy and a bit noisy, but ok as a quick fuelling up for the day.
walls are thin !
We booked through our local paper which offer a weekend deal. The hotel itself was clean but rather tired and in need of a bit of refurbishing. The food was very mediocre. It was buffet style and one evening there was extremely tough lamb and very little choice of vegetables. The staff struggled to smile and though they were efficient when it came to clearing your plates they were a very sullen group of young people. The rooms were what you would expect as far as lay out was concerned. Shower was good. Tea and coffee facilities which are always welcome but it was a noisy hotel. The walls were so thin that I can tell you that the young man next door was called Aiden and he was 28. He never usually did 'it' on a first date but quite obviously from the noises that then pursued he obviously changed his mind ! We wouldn't go back to this hotel.
Trapped in a 1970s timewarp - and dirty!
What a shocker! Had a "Life on Mars" moment on viewing the room we were given. Had I had an accident and been transported back in time? Sadly not as what confronted me was a reality. So where to start...... The decor was old and tatty with paint peeling off of the windows and the sills wet and also peeling. There was mould around the bath and the paint was coming off of the ceiling. The bedspread had seen better days and was stained (I'd rather not comment on what it might have been). We opened 2 draws and the handles both came off! The rather unattractive facia panel for the light switches next tot the bed had been held on with double sided tape and fell off everytime you turned the light on or off. The net curtains were yellow and stained from the damp and were torn and frayed. Need I go on? What amazed me was that in the room there is a card that says "We are like the 4th bridge - we're always being painted!" Well they must have missed this hotel as it needs demolishing. The only positive I can give you is that the receptionist was excellent. I asked to have our room changed and we were "upgraded" (I use the term loosely) to a more 80s themed room in only slightly better repair than our previous offering. That said they had obviously run out of sheets as our double bed was made with single sized sheets that had been but horizontally across the bed - so they didn't reach the top or the bottom!! Anyway back to the receptionis, despite running the reception single handedly duting a very busy period she was ever the professional and dealt with our dissatisfaction in a calm manner. I would also say that the buffet breakfast was good with all trays being regularly replenished with freshly cooked food. I know it's not the most expensive hotel but realistically they should be paying you to stay there.
Absolutely Fine
I stayed at the Roundhouse for 2 nights in July for a stag party. We were a bit concerned about the hotel given the reasonable price we were paying and the difficulty with finding hotels which would accept all male groups. I was very pleasantly surprised. The roundhouse was clean, in good condition and centrally located. There was also plenty of parking on site. The hotel is one big circle and is located near a busy roundabout. We didn't find the noise a problem, except when they were digging up the road outside on a Saturday morning! I guess double glazing would be a nice addition for light sleepers. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating and the inclusive breakfast was a good buffet. There were a few stag and hen parties at the hotel, but we did not see any trouble when we were staying - it was all very good natured.
its a great place
My mate and I have just returned from a two night stay at the roundhouse. i have to say, its not the best looking place and could def do with a lick of paint but as far as value for money goes its well worth it. the staff are helpful and we enjoyed sandwiches delievered at around 4 in the morning. there was a mix of familys, hen/stag parties etc but i wouldnt say they caused a problem. it is on a round a bout and it does look dodgy, but we will def stay again, as the rooms are a good size, food is good and the buffet breakfast is excellent, always being topped up, so everyone gets what they want. give it a go for a central base and a cheap place to stay.
Dated, dirty & dire!
If your idea of a weekend away involves unusually shaped, dirty, noisy hotels then this is the one for you! Unusually shaped - Round House is round, if you get an exterior facing room you will be sent straight to sleep by the mellow tones of heavy traffic. Alternatively if you'd prefer to relax in your slumber listening to other people's conversations, tvs and noisy love making go for one of the central facing rooms. Dirty - Kim and Aggie would have a field day at this place. If you like 1980's themed discotheques, why not follow up the experience by booking a room at this place and you'll really feel like the clock has been turned back.. dated bathroom, a window permanently open (which amplified the lovely noise from everyone else) and a corby trouser press sum up an amazingly awful place to stay when venturing down to the South Coast.
