Roundhouse Hotel

The Roundhouse hotel has the potential to be a lovely hotel however there are many things that were disappointing about our stay. To begin with we booked a superior room, which to our standards was far from superior.
We were informed the room would be spacious, well decorated and equipped with a Jacuzzi bath. The room was small and cluttered with a wardrobe directly next to a desk with a chair stuck in the corner, the decor was outdated, also the sheet had rips in it and the wall paper was scratched.
The Jacuzzi bath could only be used with the door shut, we by chance were given this information by a member of the room service staff whilst sharing a lift with him on arrival, not many would have received this information and therefore set the fire alarm off ( like the previous day at 4am we were told) I believe this should be explained to all guests, surely for the hotels benefits as well as the guests.
The room only had one small radiator in it, which was mostly covered by the wardrobe therefore the room was very cold which was not helped by the single glazed windows which not only meant there was a draft in the room ( window near bed) but also it meant there was a lot of noise from outside the hotel. The hotel is situated on a main road and therefore our first nights stay we got no sleep not only because of the traffic but because across the road someone was chain sawing trees at 10pm. We found this most annoying, even though the chain sawing was not the hotels fault, with double glazed windows we feel the noise would have been reduced.
On arrival at the hotel we found that reception were pleasant enough but not exactly welcoming.
The one plus of the staying at the hotel was the food. We ordered room service on the first night which was delivered promptly after our order was placed and the member of staff that delivered it was pleasant. We had breakfast both mornings and thought the range of the food was excellent.
I myself am a vegetarian and often find myself stuck for choice when presented with sausages and bacon, however there were many options which left me spoilt for choice. The quality of the food was good, the food was constantly being topped up and the longer breakfast hours unlike many hotels were very accommodating, especially after receiving little sleep and not wanting to get up early.
The staff were generally nice and were helpful when needed.
We feel we were slightly mislead about the "spacious superior rooms" and if we had known what the superior rooms were actually like we would have simply paid for a standard room.
I have stayed at premier lodges for cheaper and found the standards are extremely higher for the room.
Safe to say we will not be staying at this hotel again, and would recommend to others if they want to stay, not to pay for the superior room because it simply is not worth it.
