My friend and I had booked a trip to Bournemouth with a local travel company. We did not know where we were staying at first, but we both agreed we struck lucky. The staff were very friendly, and both the breakfast and the dinner were more than adequate. The room wasn't... more

We saw our room, which was clean but very small and not of the standard I had anticipated from Swallow Hotels. I thought the deal was too good, having stayed in Swallow Hotels in the past & found them to be of a very high standard. We left, forfeiting our deposit and... more

Have just returned from a Christmas break at this hotel and what a fantastic time we have had. From the moment we walked through the doors, the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. OK the rooms could do with being updated and although they are... more

The double room was poorly decorated. In one corner odd wall paper had been used. Wall paper lifting off walls and water stained. The curtains were mucky and badly fitted and the nets were 600 mm longer than the main curtains. The carpet was stained and there was a light... more

Very pleased!
After reading some of the recent reviews of this hotel, I was a bit anxious about our stay (having booked through Lastminute.com "secret hotels"). However, my fears were groundless - hotel was great, excellent location, large, clean room with a massive bathroom, friendly and helpful staff, quiet at night (despite the hotel being completely full and with several parties going on the first night of our stay). Could not park in the carpark the first night, but there was plenty of on-road parking available nearby so not a problem and moved for second night. On the whole, a very good experience, would recommend and would stay here again.
Really making an effort to please you!
Its only a three star with prices to match, so the first time I stayed and saw my room; my smile started to widen! We unpacked our bags, observed the large bed with its tasteful modern coverings; took in the upmarket fashionable decor and examed the new shiney bathroom. Little touches like decent bottled shampoos (not the satchet rubbish) and sewing kit, the box of tissues or the flat screen tv just told us this place was trying to give us a decent stay. I always think that a business shows its true colors when things go wrong, so when i stormed down to the front desk at 2am , because the bed was broken, the ops manager "David"s' reacreation said it all. He is possibly the politest, most attentive manager I have ever met (spent 15 yrs in and out of hotels on business). He upgraded our room immediatly, took half the money off the bill and a free weekend a month later. We've been back three times since then and nothing is too much too ask and everything allways done efficiently and politley as possible. Ok the hotel is not perfect, the floors creek a little and the swimming pool isn't olympic sized; but then again nor is the bill. If you can't enjoy a stay at this hotel for this money, then either stay at home or get thereapy. Speak to David and just and just ask for what you sensibly want and I gurantee that he'll do his best. Thank you mate x
A very nice experience
I stayed in the Durley Dean Hotel last week and was quite pleasantly surprised. I stayed in a newly refurbished room which was spacious, clean and comfortable. The food was delicious and the service was warm, efficient, and with a smile. I will definitely stay there again on my next trip to Bournemouth.
Superb Value For Money!!
Stayed recently at the Durley Dean hotel and my partner and I couldnt have asked for a better break away. We arrived earlier than expected, and before check-in, but it was no problem for reception. After a quick phonecall we were informed that the room would be ready within the hour but we were more than welcome to leave our bags behind if we wanted to go and explore the local area, which we did. When we arrived back we were told our bags had been taken up for us and we were given the keys to our room which was gorgeous. The colour scheme, the beds, the bathroom... Couldn't fault any of it!! Later that night, we went into the restaurant for dinner. I cannot fault the food at all. My partner and I both had smoked salmon terrine which was amazing. Full of flavor. For main, I had lamb shank and my girlfriend had pork belly. Neither meal was fatty and both were so tender. Finally we shared an apple crumble with custard. They must have an amazing chef!! Breakfast was just as good. Nice hot full english breakfast buffet, with a continental option as well. I asked the breakfast supivisor if I could have an omlette, as there was no mention of one being available, and with a smile I was told 'Not a problem'. Over the weekend, we had a briliant stay, food was just as good as the first night. Special mention to Ben and Dave Lee and their team! Will definately be coming back soon!!
Real Value For Money
We just wanted a base for an evening down in Bournemouth, didn't get down there until 7pm and went straight out after getting ready and didn't use any of the facilities apart from the room and reception... We paid £45 for a double room - nicely refurbished and although the room was tiny, the bed and duvet really comfortable and ideal for what we wanted it for. Wouldn't want to pay too much more for it (say over £70) but this represented real value for money
Great Value, for High Quality will stay again if return to Bournemouth
stayed in feb 2010, choose to stay in a refurbished room, due to reading previous reviews and found hotel to be great quality for a good price. Location is ideal, only short walk into main town centre, but right on sea front, onsite parking, staff really pleasant, rooms clean, and more importantly a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was nice with a good selection for whatever you may fancy, cereal / fruit / full english fryup. Would defiantly stay again if i ever came back to bournemouth.
Great...Excellent value
We stayed at The Durely Dean back in November, special rate from late rooms of £30. Absolute bargain....Huge room, well decorated, good shower. We didn't eat or have breakfast so can't comment but the receptionist who checked us in was very helpful. All in all a great pleasant surprise.
Sleep! Not here!
If you want any sleep do not stay at this hotel. The noise finally stopped around 5am. At one point I felt very uncomfortable and frightened when there was swearing and shouting outside my room by groups of extremely drunk lads. When I called reception they laughed and shrugged it off as if it was normal Saturday night behaviour. It obviously caters to large groups of stag and hen do's. However it was cheap and I guess you get what you pay for.
Horrendous - avoid if you like to take a shower or flush the toilet whilst on holiday!
I booked our stay through lastminute.com in early December for our stay on New Year's Eve. The website described the hotel as having been completely refurbished, but I was concerned having read terrible reviews here on TA. I checked the hotels own website and was pleasantly surprised by the photos. If only I had been more cautious! It turned out that only 70 rooms had been refurbished and not the entire hotel as stated in my booking confirmation. On speaking to reception we were told they were fully booked and couldn't move us. At around 6pm we went to get ready for NYE and found there was no water, the pumps were insufficent to bring water to the third floor. Along with this the radiator only half worked, despite us bleeding the radiator and a receptionist looking at it, so along with a draughty window the room was freezing. Three times we asked for an extra duvet and mattress topper to soften the rock hard bed and eventually were just given a blanket. In the morning there still wasn't any water and matters had got worse as it wasn't possible to flush the toilet. The swimming pool is also still closed. I've stayed in far nicer hostel/backpacking resorts all over the world and was very disappointed in the hotel and their lack of interest that we had been sold a refurbished room, which surely contravines trading standards and advertising regulations.
Management response from reviewsdurley 04 Mar 2010

Regretably we did have a problem with our pressurised water system that was installed to give good quality water pressure throughout the building. This has been rectified and we are experiencing no further problems which I think recent reviews confirm.

APleasant Surprise
After reading some of the reviews, we arrived at the Durley Dean for a one night stay with some trepidation. We needn't have worried - the staff were helpful and friendly, the room was gigantic, comfortable and clean and we were only short of a plug for the wash-basin. We had a slight hiccup in the morning with breakfast when it was extremely busy - but that was because a local firm had had their Christmas party the night before at the hotel and many had stayed overnight. In the circumstances the staff did well to cope as well as they did, but they needed an extra pair of hands or three.
