Hotel Description:

The Staffler is just 150 meters from the slopes. It offers fantastic value for money. The hotel is one of the resorts oldest and offers a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Rooms have private facilities, TV and a number can accommodate a third bed, some have balconies. There are a number of larger familiy rooms, some interconnecting. A buffet breakfast is served each morning and six nights a week there is a choice of three-course dinner.

" Myself and a group of friends stayed... "

Myself and a group of friends stayed at Club Staffler this New Year and found the staff to be friendly the service was good, as was the food.

This is a two star hotel with a five star welcome and I would recommend Club Staffler to any of my friends. The pension is situated very close to the slopes, in fact I boarded to the door a couple of days. The rooms were clean, the water was hot and the beer was cold. The staff were friendly and full of advice .What more could we ask for...

" This hotel is definitely one that my... "

This hotel is definitely one that my partner Dave and I would go back to and probably would take the children as well.

Ok, you got what you paid for as the rooms were incredibly basic with a basin in the bedroom to wash with, and a toilet and shower cubicle which had seen better days, but the beds were lovely and comfy and the food and the hospitality made up for the rooms tenfold so most people didn’t complain.

The food was cooked by a very good Australian chef who was happy to cater for most diets if you gave him notice. We had a room on the top floor (3rd floor) which is good in hindsight to get away from the slight noise of the nightclub (we only heard it on the last 2 nights), but not good with heavy suitcases or if you have your leg in plaster midweek like I did!

We had a really good view of the gondola and slopes and we were incredibly lucky with the snow as when we got there it was green, when we woke up on the first morning it was white everywhere and didn’t stop snowing for the rest of the week. We had over 100cm by the 5th day!

Slopes are a bit basic in Niederau if you are intermediate but ok but if you get on the bus to Affach there are a lot more slopes there which we did every day.

Would we go back to this hotel - yes.

" Myself and 6 of my ski buddies (a... "

Myself and 6 of my ski buddies (a total party of 7 females) have just returned from a week in the Staffler Hotel and enjoyed a fantastic week.

On arrival we were met by Julie the Hotel manager, who took the time to greet all the guests and let us know what to expect in resort, she told us the Staffler was a family run hotel and that we should relax, enjoy our week and treat it like home - we did!

The general decor of the hotel could do with an update and the rooms are basic but what else do you expect of a 2* hotel?

We were actually very pleased with what we got and throughout the week we had great meals (we were a little worried after reading some of the reports but the food was fab!

Not a poor meal all week and all home cooked meals presented well), the staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful, the relaxed and friendly atmosphere reminded me very much of a catered chalet (just on a larger scale).

On the 1st day of skiing we spent the morning on a couple of runs and with new found confidence in the afternoon 3 of us decided to tackle the 'red 19' run, which the rep had referred to as 'challenging'.

After throwing myself off the top of the mountain with real gusto I ended up coming down most of the way on my bottom and the rest on foot (it was definitely a challenge and I seemed to loose my 'mojo' half way down!)

As there was not a lot of snow during our stay, Julie recommended the next resort along (covered by the same ski pass)- Auffach, which was actually a lovely ski resort and I found my 'mojo' on one of their red runs and completely enjoyed the rest of the weeks skiing!

The nightlife in Niederau is a little limited (just a couple of bars/club) but what nightlife there is was fab!

Shots of the local spirit jagiermiester is the thing to keep you going (I recommend it drowned in red bull for that extra kick - known locally as a Flying stag and nicknamed by me as a stying flag - I think you get the idea!).

I want to thank everybody at the hotel Staffler for a great stay and a special thanks to Eric (DJ in the cave bar) who is a LEGEND!

" Just returned from a great stay at... "

Just returned from a great stay at the Staffler Hotel. Although their was no snow at Niederau the holiday was brilliant. Rep was fantastic and we were shipped off to great skiing at Scheffau everyday.

Niederau looked very nice, had there been some snow, and I would go back.

The Staffler was a lovely hotel and it really surprises me that some of the reviews were not very good.

This is a budget hotel and in many cases, it outdid my estimations! Yes the rooms are basic, but you don’t go on a skiing holiday to stay in the room!

There was some noise from the Cave Bar below but after a hard day skiing I fell asleep straight away - the lower floors may have been worse and I can imagine that it wouldn’t be great for children.

The food was lovely - 3 course meal each evening with a choice of 2 mains (one meat and one veggie). Also - for those fussy eaters - you could order a pizza and chips for 10 euros.

Food was very nice though - bangers and mash, spag bols, Irish stew, mustard crusted pork, chilli - all lovely - although very small portions so make sure you have the soup!

Staff were very nice at the hotel (although the younger ones living on the top floor tended to be noisy on their nights off and did keep us awake messing around in the corridor).

Bar area is very nice and laid back and Cave Bar is good for a drunken night. O'Mallys was also really nice (Irish bar in Niederau run by Staffler too).

So in conclusion - I really liked Staffler and would go back - I think we had it lucky in some respects (i.e. not on floor just above Cave Bar and not requiring a camp bed - some of our group did and a 6 foot man on a camp bed wasn't really acceptable) - however, I was very impressed and would recommend this hotel to friends if they want a basic but very friendly hotel with great food.

" Just came back from a weeks skiing in... "

Just came back from a weeks skiing in Austria and have to say, while the skiing and location were great the hotel/chalet aka "Grandma" as they like to call it was a disappointment.

The food was superb but very small portions. If you are a big eater then this isn't the place for you.

While the free wine was great we saw that the left over wine was poured into new bottles for the next night.

The noise of the night club was dreadful and even with earplugs and drink taken it could still keep you awake.

The first night we arrived it was very noisy and when mentioned to the managers we were informed that we should have been in the nightclub not in bed!

We had booked the room with a bath but only got a shower and that included the complimentary leak from the room above us, which got so bad we had to wear our boots into the bathroom.

Niederau was brilliant. Richard the Panorama Rep was fantastic as he had the chore of getting us to Scheffau everyday, as we had no snow in the resort. He treated everyone as an individual when you had a complaint and the Ski School was also brilliant.

Walter and Michael were great instructors and we would highly recommend their classes.

" This was my second year at the... "

This was my second year at the Staffler and I was made to feel like an old friend. This is the nature of the Staffler and its staff.

The hotel is informal and very friendly. Whether you are there on your own or as part of a group you will soon get to know most of the other guests.

The location is perfect for the lifts and if you like the night life then having the main club in the basement makes the walk home simple.

If you are a light sleeper then perhaps this is not the place for you but after skiing and a good meal (and a few beers) you don't hear a thing.

The fresh food is tasty and filling.

If you want 5 star food and accommodation this is not the place for you - if you want a warm and friendly welcome, good food, clean and basic rooms and a fantastic holiday then stay at the Staffler - but leave room for us because we will be going back.

" I have just returned from a 1 week... "

I have just returned from a 1 week holiday which I spent with my wife and 13 year old daughter at The Staffler.

We had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend a holiday there if you are on a budget. The staff were all great and make you feel welcome.

I was concerned about what the food would be like having read previous reviews however, believe you me, the food was excellent every day. The manageress Julie was very helpful and spoke to everyone to ensure they were ok and enjoying themselves.

The position of the hotel is ideal as you are right at the centre of things with a night club underneath the hotel at The Cave Bar and the main ski lifts a short walk away.

The only down side is that the rooms are noisy and basic...but you get what you pay for and for me this was well worth the money.

Well recommended for budget holiday makers.

" Having read many a review about the... "

Having read many a review about the Club Staffler, I can say I was not looking forward to my visit.

When we reached the Staffler we were greeted with a warm welcome, if not though a bit of a regimental welcome. We were given the keys to our room which was on the 2nd floor, a bit of a drag with 2 kids and 3 suitcases and no lift.

My first impression of the Staffler was not of wow, but more of well never mind, its basic and needs a darn good refurb. The welcome pack in the room states that it is the oldest hotel in the resort, although it is the oldest it should not stop it from being having a makeover.

The rooms are basic and not very well lit, the bathrooms need a damn good upgrade, and perhaps a bath being put in instead of just a shower, I really craved a bath especially after a day on the slopes.!

The mealtimes were a bit too regimented too, but being in the catering industry I can understand why, breakfast could have done to be served for a longer time as it did not require any staff to serve , it was continental help yourself. I was not keen on having to share a table with another family at first, but it did turn out OK as we made a new friend.

The meals in the Staffler were OK, fresh soups and home cooked food, which was palatable. While at the Staffler 2 of my family did get a sickness bug, but I think personally it was more the fact that the weather was unseasonably warm for the time of year and also going from outside to inside, where it was always extremely warm.

The Hotel was a bit on the warm side, but not a bad thing I suppose. The beds were very comfy and nothing was too much trouble from any of the staff, they all made a huge fuss of us and my daughter made a friend for life in Tom!

The cave bar underneath the hotel was a bit on the loud side but hey ho everyone's on holiday, and it did not disturb my kids sleep. The staff at the Staffler certainly made my holiday that bit better, as I could not ski, and felt quite poorly.

Although the hotel is basic and in need of a refurb, the staff are extremely friendly and make it a relaxed atmosphere and almost a home from home. Please read this review and take from it what you will and if you do find yourself there, take it for what it is, a ski hotel 2** with fabulous staff who make it one big family.

The resort on the whole was wonderful and the red team made my hubbies holiday, Micheal from Holland was his instructor and what he did in 5 days was amazing. My kids learned to ski too and I have to say are better than my Hubby.

The village is a really nice place with loads of reasonable eateries, and Craig the Airtours rep was a good lad who was very friendly... would go back for sure.

" This is a great hotel, friendly... "

This is a great hotel, friendly staff, and good food. It is located about 5 mins walk from the first lift and with the snow we had we were able to board all the way back to the hotel (NB there is a road to cross)

Neiderau is a great ski field, however I would recommend getting on the bus and getting to Auffach as soon as you can. The skiing and boarding at Neiderau is limited and for anyone with any ability you will quickly tire of it, Auffach has some great runs both on and off piste.

Over all I would recommend the resort and the Hotel.

" I had read the reviews left by some... "

I had read the reviews left by some people on this site and to be honest thought "Ow my God"!!!

My family and I were tired after our journey and on arrival to the Staffler we were dealt with very quickly. A quick hello from the Manager "Nick" and then off to the rooms to put our bags away. Then it was off to the Ski hire shop which again was a quick and easy affair.

I had stupidly left my coat on the bus and the Panorama rep was very helpful and the coat was returned to me.

I was scared to eat anything in the Staffler after reading the damning reports but to my surprise again the food was excellent!! Especially the home made soups all from fresh ingredients made that day! I was intending to eat out most nights because of the reviews I had read here and I am very picky about my meals but my family and I thought it was all excellent and we ate in the Staffler every night and enjoyed the bottles of complimentary wine.

All the staff were very helpful all of the time nothing seemed to be a hassle to them.

The Cave Bar / Night Club was also excellent Live Bands on two of the nights we stayed. The great thing about the Cave is that it’s in the basement of the hotel so my partner and I could enjoy a night out safe in the knowledge that the kids were upstairs. If they had wanted to get us all they had to do was nip down.

Previous reviews had mentioned that the noise was very loud from the Cave. Utter nonsense. How anyone cannot sleep after a good days skiing I shall never know.
Anyways, a big thank you to all at the Staffler we had a great time and will look forward to seeing you all again.

P.s thanks for the Snowboard lesson Tom :)

Regards,

Peter Whyte

" Excellent location. And that is it.... "

Excellent location. And that is it.

Not being allowed our key to our room upon arrival was the beginning of a tedious week. We had to wait until the owner/manager had given his speech. I now know what it feels like to be a sheep waiting to be dipped.

The food was dire. We saw the owner/manager clear a muesli mess from the table straight back into the main muesli bowl!! The sliced cheese & bits of meat were on the level that all the children (AND some adults !!) coughed & sneezed over it. A menu card with a choice of main meal had to be completed at breakfast time. Oh and it was a tough choice..... parsnip & chickpea patties OR peppers stuffed with plain couscous on a bed of couscous! Not a vegetable in sight, nor a salad. I am certain the health authorities would have a fine time there as many of the guests had stomach problems which cleared up as soon as we all ate out!

If you have to stay at the Staffler... eat out! The prices elsewhere are cheaper and the quality AND quantity elsewhere are superior!

I fell in love with the local people & the area as a whole. Have booked a summer holiday already BUT will be avoiding the Staffler at all costs!!

" Excellent family run hotel. The... "

Excellent family run hotel. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and everyone is made welcome by Thomas and Naomi and their staff.

The rooms are spotlessly clean.
There is a beginners slope opposite the hotel, with the main lifts just 5 mins away. These can be accessed by either walking or skiing.

There is a ski (and sledge) storage room, and a drying room.
The food is good and was enjoyed by all, including children.

" The Staffler:

Points... "

The Staffler:

Points that need attention:
Accommodation could do with some updating.

Points that are spot on:
Location.
Friendly staff
Food.
Cave bar (beer) mmmmmh

At the end of it all, it is only a 2* hotel & I go one a skiing holiday to ski, sometimes I think we all expect a little bit more.
For the star rating it does EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN.

" Can’t fault Niederau at all.... "

Can’t fault Niederau at all. It’s a fantastic spot for beginner skiers. The Staffler on the other hand!

Food was edible, but boring after a couple of days. Our room was fine, but the noise from the Cave Bar was too much, even the kids couldn’t sleep. We ended up being moved to the staff quarters up the hill, which was a far better position, but they forgot to clean our room, so by the end of the week it was filthy.

Panorama rep was great, snowball club was great, but accommodation was NOT value for money. Would go back to Niederau, but not to the Staffler!

The Hotel is in a great position just 2 minutes walk from the slopes.

The Staffler was warm and welcoming and the staff were great. The only complaint I have is the food, which was obviously made on a very low budget. In fact a sickness bug was going round the Staffler, which we think, was to do with the food.

The Cave Bar underneath the Staffler was great fun but noisy in the rooms if your sober. Overall, this was a great holiday. We made loads of friends. If you decide to stay here you are guaranteed a great time just be sure to eat out!
