We booked for two nights with an offer from KGB Deals for £89 for two nights b&b. Party of four - two couples aged 36-42 We were looking for somewhere to rest our heads after exploring the nightlife. After googling and reading reviews we were quite put off but it would... more

MY parents and my husband stayed at the paragon in August 2011 for the third time. I rate it as 'good value for money'. I also stayed at the Britannia which is located in the city center. The Britania is five minutes from the train station ,much more convenient. However The... more

There was damp in the hallway the paint was coming of the walls, you could not have the heating n unless you were present in the room. They gave away the rest of my parties rooms and sent them to a hotel that was a hostel. I would not r4ecomend this hotel if ou are paying full price. The staff did the minimum to make you feel welcome .

I had read the reviews prior to my stay at the Paragon and my initial thoughts were "Oh my God, what have I let myself in for", then went on to think "its only for one night, how bad can it be?". The biggest, most grottiest, would even call it a "Hotel", i have ever stayed... more

My wife and I booked a double room on a B/B basis for 2 nights. We were allocated room 342, this room stunk of urine, was very small and needed decorating, it was impossible to stay there. We complained and were given the keys of room 412. This room also was small and smelt... more

I stayed this hotel for a weekend trip to Birmingham. The hotel is located at 25 minutes walk from Birmingham Snow Hill station and 20 minutes from High Street station. The hotel is a quite old building. I was given a very shabby room. All the things were quite old though... more

Room was damp and cramped. Shower was a dribble, towels were clean. Booked 2 singles - got put in a twin room - didn’t get much sleep. Woken at 5.15 by sound of skips being loaded. Had to argue about "inclusive breakfast.” Good location, but with a full hotel they... more

The Paragon is a faded hotel with character. It could do with some refurbishment, but is very good value for money. Double rooms come with either a bath or a shower, and I recommend taking the bath option as these rooms are much larger. There is no double glazing, so there... more

Hell's Kichen
What a nightmare!! After trekking from the station arrived at what appeared to be a very old but pleasant looking Hotel. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful but that is where is ends. After going to the 3rd floor to find our rooms the smell on getting out of the lift reminded me of an old peoples home, you know the smell I mean!! Corridors cold and dirty, damp was apparent on the walls. The rooms themselves appeared ok, beds were clean but on closer examination there was dirt on the window ledges, the carpets had seen better days and the walls were very thin. Decided to eat in the restaurant for evening meal and what a nightmare. One of our party asked for a prawn cocktail without the dressing and was informed that they would try and scrape off the sauce!! Main course consisted of a chicken thigh (should have been a chicken chasseur) one mushroom and a cube of tomato, a coloured water, uncooked vegetables and boiled potatoes. Everything was cold. The pudding was NICE. Fire alarms went off twice. Noise from the car park kept all of the party awake most of the night. Breakfast the next morning was cold and microwaved. If we had not been attending a conference we would have booked out the previous night and gone and found somewhere else. Would not recommend this to anyone.
Total Hell
Stayed one night - one night too many. Situated in terrible area. Hotel smelt damp. Staff unfriendly. Room like shoe box. Room dirty. Terrible noise from car park opposite. Paper thin walls. Restaurant food the worst I have ever eaten (my colleagues agreed) - chicken dish consisted of one chicken thigh! Fire alarm kept going off............. I cannot write any more. Just avoid. My colleagues and I will never ever return.
mmm...I think we'll stay somewhere else next time!
We only booked this hotel as an overnight base for a show at the NEC the next day, and Ok the room was very cheap for bed and breakfast, so I can't really complain. But just so other readers get an impression of this place heres my view of the Paragon: Very old, very big and very basic hotel situated in a very run down and intimidating area. Unfortunately the park next to the hotel seemed to have a number of homeless guests. The street parking didn't seem a great idea so for £5 we parked in the 'secure hotel carpark' but it is not really the hotels and as I heard from the parking attendant, not even that secure. The rooms are all you would expect from a 2 star: basic, small, with a lumpy and tiny double bed and a shower that almost showered. Breakfast was very nice, buffet style with a choice of the usual, cereals, pastries, fruit, full english breakfast, juices, coffee etc It was only a couple of minutes drive to the Bull Ring and we used a taxi in the evening which was £4 This hotel is ok for a 2 star and fine for us if it had have been in a more desirable area but next time I will pay that little bit extra and stay somewhere else.
Not a secure car park!
Impressive building but corridors have seen better days; quite grubby in parts. Rooms compact and bijoux with paper thin walls. If you get off on hearing the nocturnal activities of your neighbours, then this is the place for you. The website blurb states that secure car parking is available at £5 per car for 24hrs. Beware! The car park *is* conveniently situated across the road from the hotel and is sited in an old factory. However, when I went to park my vehicle there I discovered that 9 vehicles had had their windows smashed the previous night and that it is a regular thing. The owners were met with a blank from the hotel who state that people park there at their own risk. Er... .. how can they charge £5 for *secure* parking and then say that? I left mine on the street as I felt it was safer there (and free)!
Never Again..
This was an experience best forgotten..The noise from the other guests kept my partner and I awake all night. If you decide to take your sanity in your own hands then so be it but if given the keys to room 128 refuse it,be warned other guests use the passageway to use the stairs although there is two lifts insitu, when using the passage way they seem to forget there are two rooms there and the fire doors were constantly banging all night. The shower was dirty. the room ok a little on the small side but cosy. Please make sure you use the DO NOT DISTURB sign otherwise you will get someone walking in on you at 9:20 to clean the room while you are still in bed as we did. I could go on but I would be here all night.......
Nice Surprise
Booked a coach trip not knowing which hotel we were staying at until 2 days before travelling. When we read the reviews on the hotel we were really worried. The reviews were not good. But how wrong they were. The hotel was very good, very clean, the food was excellent, always hot and the staff in the restaurant were most helpful and cheerful at all times especially Jordan and Harvey (no relation to the Prices) Staff on reception were most helpful. The rooms were modern and clean, even if the bathroom needs a little face lift. Bedroom and Bathroom are on the smallish side but adequate. The only downside is the location in the middle of an industrial estate. but at least it was quiet as it was the weekend. Only 10-15 mins walk into the centre of Birmingham. As the hotel is so big they could improve facilities by having a games room, a separate TV room and maybe a Gym and Sauna. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay again. .
Noise avoidance
This is a huge hotel, so getting a room shouldn't be a problem. The problem is where the room is. Insist on a room overlooking the park, where trees will screen the noise. If you find yourself in room overlooking the garage move at once. The metal door of the garage, which is raised by a chain pulley, cranks up and down all night, and around 5.45 am staff arrive and sit in their cars listening to music for ten minutes before they start their shift. Also be prepared for staff who with one or two notable exceptions would rather be doing anything other than working in a hotel. This is especially the case on the weekend.
Thin walls!
Impressive looking hotel, good staff in restaurant but others left a lot to be desired. When we arrived the hotel was having a problem with plumbing. Saturday night and no water at all. After a long day travelling we were less than happy. The main problem though was the wafer thin walls. I think we had a porn movie going on in the next room. How embarrassing. Wont be returning.
Facade brilliant rooms inadequate
Dissapointing stay there. The first time visiting Birmingham, and the hotel does not encourage me to return quickly. Noisy plumbing which kept waking us up. The initial lack of welcome from the male reception staff nearly made us turn around and leave. The indifferencet and lack of welcome was astounshing. We have never been so badly introduced to a hotel before. This was balanced however by the very very efficient and helpful service given by the resturant staff. The rooms were the tiniest we have ever stayed in, with the lack of double glazing to the windows allowing the outside world to frequently visit our room, even though we were on the second floor. Dont take a room that is facing the hotels garage. Noisy noisy and very noisy. So I say go back to Birmingham there seems to be a lot to offer ONLY do not go to this hotel.
horrible
Reception area seemed nice but rooms are filthy smelly shoeboxes. There are much nicer hotels than this for less money in better locations, avoid the paragon!
