the hotel was dumped from days inn portfolio as a "loser" it is now the Birmingham hotel and it sucks! I have never felt compelled to review a hotel before but this was so bad I am going out of my way to find how to do it This is a dirty tired place with a catalogue of... more

Lack of staff?
attractive medditerranean looking girl on reception, enough to brighten up my stay alone. She was very helpful and friendly. I find it very very bad how she is left on her own in the hotel with no other help. Rooms could have been better, so could have meals.
Basic!
Having spent 2 nights here it is not somewhere I would chose to stay again! The staff were very helpful but the rooms in need of attention. The window in our room was broken and nearly fell out when we opened it! There was no soap in either of our rooms. The free newspapers didn't materialise. The bar there is tiny and really smokey and there isn't anywhere alse to go to chill out other than your room. Dinner was nice, but breakfast certainly not worth the money. There wasn't anywhere locally within walking distance to escape to either. I... more
Could be a lot better
The room was average the light in the bathroom did not work and the one outside was in the same condition, there was no remote control for the TV and when I reported it missing I was treated as if I had stolen it. The curtains were not big enough to cover the window (gaps left at the sides when drawn). The bed was like sleeping on a 'bouncy castle' it just did not feel stable and every time I moved during the night it woke me up. The food was at best average And the breakfast is best left well alone. The staff were very... more
Comfertable rooms, helpfull staff and excellent value
The rooms are large and comfortable. The facilities are good, bathrooms big and the staff were very friendly - nothing was a problem - even when I wanted food off the normal menu in their restaurant. Good service. We booked directly with the hotel and they offered the same rate as we found on the internet. Location is also good near the bull Ring and near centre. They also do not charge for parking! I would stay again as it is conveniently located on the A45 and close to the main roads to get around Birmingham - ideal for a... more
Bed was the best thing, everything else was awful!
Where do I start? Arriving at 1.00pm I was able to check in early, already my room number had changed from 48 to 49. I asked if the new room was overlooking the carpark (the quieter side!!!) and was told no, so I asked to be moved, this was done and I ended up in Room 50. I imagined the hotel was busy, not so, I only saw one other person. Having lugged my case up 3 flights of stairs (INO lift, I was offered help by a the lady receptionist) I entered my room, quite a reasonable size, although TV was very close to one side of the... more
Absolutely awful
All you really want to do on a business trip in a strange hotel is to sleep - this is one place where that is nearly impossible! The hotel picture is an illusion. In reality it is built into a hill. You check in sub basement & then climb the stairs lugging your own case (no lift / no porters)to your room. My room had the curtains laying on the bed, so I rehung them myself (do NOT use the rickety chair to do this, pull the bed over!) The window opens onto a 3 ft wide expanse of pavement onto an extremely busy main road. It did not help that... more
Avoid this hotel if possible
I had two nights booked here on 20th/21st January but the moment I arrived I wanted to leave. It was late so I had no choice to stay one night but left the next morning taking a risk of finding another hotel on a busy weekend in Birmingham. It's a depressing location and equally depressing inside. It's ugly and run down. The entire hotel smelt of smoke. I don't go to hotels often but I was disgusted at having to pay £75 a night to stay here and amazed that the hotel was virtually fully booked. Especially because I saw only one other... more
Dire - don't stay here
On the web site this hotel looks ok. Don't be fooled - the picture is taken from the back of the hotel and most rooms are actually at the front, right on a busy road. The noise is dreadful if you aren't used to being in a busy city location, I hardly slept. The walls between the rooms are paper thin so you can hear the conversations going on next door. Water temperature varies from being so hot you can't put your hand under the tap to needing to run for five minutes to be tepid. There was a lot of rain when I stayed and this resulted in... more
Flying out Of Birmingham
Friday night April 5, 2004 I drove up to Birmingham to spend the night to catch a flight out at 6:40AM. This was to get me to a funeral that day in Miami Florida. I wanted to be able to take a shower the morning of, be fully dressed as I arrived in Miami for the funeral.I got up before 5AM, the shower knob was broken, I called the front desk at 5:02, the clerk told me to try something else, i did, again called her at 5:08AM requesting another room to shower in, explaining to her I had to get to the airport. She was still trying to tell me to... more
