Holiday Inn Express Birmingham Oldbury Hotel

Used to stay in HIE Oldbury at least once a month but then things changed and me and my collegues have sought other places to stay: A/C units installed in Autumn 2007 make terrible noice and blow air right into your face when you are sleeping in your bed. Turning the A/C off is not tempting in the winter time as the radiators have been dismantled and A/C is the only source of heat. The room key cards too often fail to work forcing the customer making additional trips back to the reception desk. Hotel staff are nice and welcoming.

You don't always get what you pay for you know! I turned up at 10pm expecting to get the last room available (top floor - furthest from the reception) and got a ground floor room. The hotel is called M5 Jct 2 so you sort of expect it to be noisy, but it wasn't. The air con got the room up to temperature pretty quickly and was sitent all night and I found the staff to be very helpful. I stayed here on a Sunday night, so the place was very quiet. The hotel is fine for the type. Clean, comfortable, fairly basic. No complaints here. You get what you expect. Front desk staff were disinterested. Admin had not bothered to note my Priority Club membership. Usual HI Express "Continental Breakfast", not up to much - but as expected. Huge "Family Pub" next door for food. Everything out of the microwave or frier. Located well for motorway access. Not a particularly pretty area!

I have to say I was extremley disappointed with my overnight stay at this hotel, The hotel is in an extremley noisy location on two very busy roads, with the result that the traffic was still heavy at 12am and despite our room being at the rear it was still hard to sleep, the newly installed a/c in the room was also noisy and the TV in the neighbouring room was clearly audible. The room however was clean, except for some heavy stains on the carpet, the bathroom, shower only, was of a good standard and very clean. No food was being served... more

Well trying to find the entrance was a little confusing, we ended up going around in circles. However the car park was big with plenty of spaces and parking is FREE which is an added bonus! Staff were friendly on check in and first impressions were good. What you get is what you expect. Just off the motorway, but hard to find the right exit and then on a one way route, a Holiday Inn Express. That means No Dinners, just take away menus, etc. Man patrols the car park at night which is reassuring but not quite knowing why, makes it less so!! Reception/Bar/Breakfast room OK and staff OK too. Sky Sports only in Bar. Room clean modern and bright, but heat only when key card plugged in, so takes time to warm up. Price varies with demand. At £85 or below fine. Stayed here for one night on business. Room was excellent, very clean and comfortable, with everything necessary. Bed confortable and lovely big shower. Despite being in the middle of busy roads, the room was quiet and sleeping was no problem. Colleague forgot his toothpaste and was given a complimentary replacement upon asking where he could buy one. This is a three storey Holiday Inn Express near a modern industrial estate in Oldbury. It's about 6 miles from Birmingham City Centre but has free, security patrolled parking, a pub next door and continental breakfast included in the room price. Friendly welcome and efficient staff. Rooms are fine with modern shower units. Oldbury used to be at the heart of the Balck Country industrial area but is gradually being revived and is a convenient place to stay. We were using it for leisure purposes but many of the clientele were on business.

Easy to get to from M5 although I dorve past the entrance the first time as it is tucked behind a petrol garage and the hotel sign was not illuminated. Free parking in front and efficient check-in. Room modern and clean. Beware the bedside spotlight - I burnt my fingers on it. Only problem I encountered was the shower which did not drain away. Fortunately I found this out before I got into it. Stayed here last weekend on the way from Clydebank to London.... The staff were really friendly and helpful and check-in was a breeze...bar was well stocked and their was a wide choice of takeaway menus available to phone-in, as with any HI Express there is no restaurant, the continental style breakfast that is laid out is plentiful and you can have as much as you need.... Room was lovely and clean, with a great power shower, which is excellent for 2-3 nights....the extra touch of Dove soaps and shower gel is nice... Bed was... more
