Last night I stayed at the FAB Novotel in Birmingham. This is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in, and I cannot wait for another reason to stay there! I booked through Last Minute.Com and received a huge reduction on the price, which is always a bonus! The room was... more

Not Bad at all
Stayed here on business It is an old hotel that has been refurbished, they have not done a bad job. The rooms were spacious and bathrooms were decent Breakfast was of good quality and staff were helpful Great location for all the nightlife of brum
Great restaurant staff
I've stayed here on business a number of times and have always had a pleasant stay. Modern throughout, it's a very welcoming environment. Reception staff were friendly and there was plenty of seating in the reception area to chat with my colleagues. Rooms were clean, a good size and air conditioned. Some rooms have a shower over the bath, and others have a separate shower cubicle and bath (obviously the better of the 2). There was a flatscreen tv and comfortable sofa, large desk/dressing table and large windows which let in lots of light. My only complaint would be that when it went dark the room's lighting wasn't all that bright (nice and moody, but not always practical). However, the unsung heroes of the Novotel Birmingham Centre are the waiters in the Elements Restaurant. The dinner isn't bad either, but their service far exceeds it. They always remembered our faces from one stay to the next and provided exemplary service. Breakfast was continental and english with a very large selection. Overall the Novotel is a very pleasant hotel, it is on a main road in the centre of Birmingham so it has the expected noise levels, but I never had any difficulty getting to sleep. Perhaps a wee bit pricey for a weekend getaway or holiday, but perfect for a business trip.
Great Stay at the Novotel
I stayed in the Novotel Birmingham Centre for 2 nights in July 2008. Overall, I had a great stay there with no major problems. The hotel is centrally located with lots of resturants around it. Public transit is nearby and there is a small Sainbury (grocery store) right next door, which is handy for snacks. There was a small problem with check in. We had booked our reservation online, yet for some reason it said we had booked the rooms for June and not July. The staff member was very helpful and found us three rooms anyways. The rooms are large and spacious, definately not the typical small European style room. The bed is huge and comfortable. The TV has lots of channels and there was a couch in my room. The view was of a building beside, which was just fine as Broad street was very noisy on the Saturday night. The bathroom was heavenly, let me just say. There was a seperate tub and shower, and the audio from the TV was piped into the room. I never usually use hotel tubs, always too gross. But in the Novotel, the tub was very clean and so inviting. I actually had a bath and listened to the TV, so relaxing after a long day travelling. The only thing, as people said the toilet is in a seperate room. There are no windows and the light was poor. The breakfast at the hotel was very expensive (12 pounds if I recall correctly). However, there are places down the street that are cheaper. I tried using the phone in the lobby, but it kept disconnecting me for some reason. There was pay phones down the street if that happens though. There is also public access internet in the lobby, but you had to pay to use it. Overall, the hotel does a good job catering to the business crowd. However, if a tourist does want to spend a few extra dollars on a nice place to stay, the Novotel is well worth it.
Great Stay
Great stay at the Novotel. Lovely spacious room, beautifully decorated with flat screen tv. Only grumble was that the toilet was not in the bathroom which was windowless. Other than than loved it. Attentive, helpful staff. Have stayed there on two occasions and will do so again.
Reasonable price for a good hotel
Centrally located, within minutes of shopping district, bars and restaurants. Hotel has its own secure parking. Staff were friendly at check-in as well as in the restaurant. Room was OK and contained all that is needed (double bed, tv, ironing board, mini bar, hair drier, ample supplies of towls, soaps...). The carpet in the room could be cleaner or replaced with wooden floors. Breakfast buffet was nice with a good selection. Overall a positive experience for an affordable price.
Good location, Standard Novotel
I stayed for one night on business travel. The Novotel is centrally located on Broad street near shops, restaurants, the ICC, NEC, Bridley place, etc. The hotel is orientated towards business travel on a budget or upgraded personal travel. The rooms are decently sized, clean, if not somewhat spartanly appointed. The staff were helpful and efficient. The hotel also seems geared towards travelers from the continent with multi-lingual staff and signage in English and French.
Netty is not in bathroom!
Stayed here for one night with work. It is slap bang in the centre and handy for a few beers. Slight problem in an Irish bar across the road with some local idiot however this was quickly sorted. My only small grumble is the toilet is not in the bathroom and the door has is on a very stiff spring which shut the door on my finger at 4am - god it hurt! :-( and my screams woke up the entrie floor room fine - staff fine - some of my group complained about the pillows but cant say i noticed a problem. Give it a whirl if you like
Excellent location & good value for money
My Fiance & i stayed in the Novotel City Centre for 1 Saturday night & it was brilliant. We couldn't of asked for a better location in the heart of everything. It is close to all the major shopping centres i.e Bullring, jewellery quarter, the National Exhibition Centre, Cadbury's World, Drayton Manor Park & Broad Street with all its famous Balti restaurants and themed bars plus much more. Check in was really quick & the staff were friendly. The reception area is very modern and inviting. The room was very fresh looking with neutral colours, modern looking and with flat screen television, an adapter to plug in your I.Pod/Mp3 player to the television and also wireless internet. The room was spacious and there was plenty of room to store your clothes and other personal items, it came with tea & coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, hair dryer plus all your usual toiletries. The bed was very comfortable and we throughly enjoyed our stay. Although we were staying in the city centre the noise from the bars/clubs and traffic did not affect our sleep which we were concerned about. Don't let this put you off as we had a lovely sleep and was not woke up by noise from the bars and clubs outside. We stayed on bed & breakfast basis and it is served until midday at the weekends which was a bonus. They had everything from cereals, fruit, fresh juices, yogurt to a full English breakfast which is all self service buffet. You can also have breakfast in the room at an additional cost of £3.00 if you have paid b&b or if it is room only continental breakfast is £12 or £15 for a full English. You can also use the fitness centre & spa at the hotel but we never did as we only stayed for 1 night. Parking at the hotel is £13 for 24 hours and an additional £4.50 for 0-3 hours extra. It is a secure underground car park but there are not many spaces so try to check in early to guarantee a space. We never bought any extras at the hotel as it was quite expensive. A bottle of Evian mineral water was £3.00!! Shocking!! However there is a Sainsbury's supermarket right next door so we bought a few drinks and snacks from there to have in our room. If you want to go out for a meal or a few drinks there is plenty of bars and restaurants in the area. We ate at the Bar Jee Indian restaurant across the road from the hotel, it was satisfactory but not the best with had. It was £25 for a meal for two and two beers. Then we went for a few drinks on Broad Street, very cheap at Wetherspoon's but we also went to Pitcher & Piano & Walkabout. There are lots to choose from but there were queues everywhere on this busy Saturday night. On the Sunday we went to Cadbury's World, a great day out for all the family plus lots of free chocolate. This is only 3 miles away from the hotel so ideal if you fancy going for the day. Tickets are £13 per adult & £9.95 per child. I would not hesitate in recommending the Novotel to anyone as i really enjoyed my stay and feel it was good value for money. We paid £107 for two adults for 1 night b&b & that included tickets for Cadbury's World too. I would definetly stay here again in the near future.
Friendly staff
Found the staff in this hotel very helpful and friendly but i feel its way over overpriced. Stayed here for one night in December after being to a concert. Got practically no sleep and our room wasn't even overlooking the busy noisy Broad Street yet still had to listen to sirens and music till at least 4 in the morning. The room itself was basic with a badly stocked mini bar and a sofa bed (had to contact reception twice for xtra blankets) The room felt very stuffy and when we first entered the smell of cleaning products was overpowering. Breakfast is a buffet with all the usual stuff but at £12 is pretty expensive considering you can walk across the road and get one for £3 which is much the same.
Clean, comfortable and convenient location.
Great location - in middle of town on Broad Street. If you want to be in a quiet district then don't stay here - go out of town. Check-in was very smooth and staff very friendly and welcoming. We booked a superior room - altho not sure what the difference is between a standard and superior. Our room was very clean - comfortable king bed. Bathroom with bath and a shower cubicle. Toilet separate, very French but after all this is an Accor hotel after all. Parking was 10pound for 24 hours which is acceptable for a secure underground city centre hotel. TV was great with many channels - even an adapter to play MP3 (i-pod) via the inroom sound system - which even pipes out into the bathroom. Didn't use the hotel leisure facilities or restaurant. I'd def stay here again as it's clean, comfortable and convenient.
