Brilliant holiday great hotel
Just had two weeks 1-15 June at the Hotel Turquoise with the bonus of beautiful weather. 9 persons ages from 4yrs to wrong side of 60. Booked 4 rooms. THE GOOD Main 3 storey hotel set in fabulous well kept grounds, also lots of annexe apartments literally in a forest. Plenty of sunbeds at no time did we have to rush to find one. Beach towels everyday on production of your card. All inclusive drinks were great, we had vodka drinkers with us there were no complaints. Plenty of all incl cocktails Food was of a very high standard, lots of fresh meats cooked in front of you. Plenty of variety which I didnt find repetitive. Beautiful cakes pastries served during afternoon. Coffe, tea & bottles of water freely available all day. Constant chefs milling around, absolutely spotless whites and all wearing gloves. Very big swimming pool, seperate grounds for kiddies pool . Lots of kiddies activities. Parents can sign in and leave children with staff. Also pools with water slides. Bonus of another 'Relax' pool indoor & outdoor for over 16 years age. Two fab decks to walk and sun bathe on. Fabulous spa & treatment rooms also gym. THE NOT SO GOOD We were originally put in annexe block D ground floor, but as it was 6am when we arrived we didnt unpack just got few hours sleep. The block was extremely dark you could smell the damp. We complained and were moved to Block F 3rd floor. Lovely & peaceful, but quite dark, we always had to put the light on. Even the swimwear wouldnt dry on the balcony as we didnt get the sun, the forrest is so dense in parts. We did notice other annexe blocks in the sunshine but we also heard others complaining. We stayed there for 2 days Fortunatley the lovely manager and receptionist sorted it when we complained. We were polite but insistant and told him we would rather be in the main hotel, considering the amount of money we had paid. We were eventually moved & more than happy with our 3rd floor sea veiw rooms. Some people loved the animation we personally thought they were dreadful. I feel this is the area that let the hotel down badly. Twice a week a band or trio come in and the atmostphere around the bar area changes to 'happy holiday'. Everyone was dancing and its really nice. Surely management must see this, so why only twice a week. Pay out and entertain your guests. OVERALL I would say go ahead and book this hotel, just that we preferred the main building. Yes, I would go back again but not yet. You will certainly enjoy the surrounding, it's possibly one of the best. I will post some photos showing the annexe and the main hotel at least it gives some ideas. Please contact me if you need any further info.
Fantastic Hotel!
We stayed at the Turquoise Hotel for a week and got back late last night - it is so brilliant that we wanted to review it straight away! Not really sure where to start....but will keep it brief! Food - it was all inclusive with a buffet restaurant but the quality and selection was outstanding. Different themes every night (even if you stay for two weeks) and no shortage of snack options throughout the day. A great tip for an afternoon snack has to be the Nomad Tent...yum! Entertainment - the animation team were brilliant. I am not at all into the 'holiday camp' type of entertainment but really enjoyed what they had to offer. Loads of activities and something for everyone but you don't feel pushed into it - and I don't think there is anyone who will leave without remembering their song!! In the evening they put on a show....now these guys are not actors but they give such a great performance....hilarious Crazy Show was very funny! Got to shout out to 'Bert and Orni' or Joshy and Oni as they prefer....they are such an asset to the hotel!! If you prefer a quiter time there is an adult pool...and another one with slides etc geared up for the kids - we don't have any but the kids clubs etc looked very good! There is a spa at the hotel...worth a massage...not the cheapest in turkey but the highest standards for a fraction on the uk price! Hairdressers....pedicure & manicure - ace....and to the men out there...have a turkish shave which is very cheap and has amazing results! Not wanting to spoil my review but we travelled with Thomson who were great however we went on a trip with them which was not worth the money and others with us saidsimilar things about other trips....I say explore fore yourself!! Hope you choose Hotel Turquoise & if you do...have a great time!!
Booked again for July '07
I have to agree with all that has been said previously about this hotel, it is gorgeous! The gardens and setting are stunning and it is only about a 20 minute walk into Side along the beach. We have our own apartment in Side and like to spend the last few nights of the holiday at an all inclusive hotel to relax and let someone else do the washing up! On arrival we were shown to a rather tired room in one of the annexe buildings, but we were moved without any fuss when we complained. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a balcony and table and chairs in a quiet area just beside the tennis courts. The food was varied and plentiful with outside seating in the main restaurant, plenty fruit and pastries for breakfast and various pizzas and meats cooked outside at lunch and dinner time. The one thing I can't understand, is why in a place with such an abundance of oranges they cant serve fresh orange juice! There are 2 large pools, one with slides, and a quiet spa pool just outside the indoor pool which had just been renovated during our stay. There are plenty sun loungers on the beach and a jetty into the sea where the water is deep enough to dive. The entertainment was a bit of a hit and miss, mostly due to the weather (thunder, lightning, rain) I have to say, as the animation team tried hard to jolly everyone along. There are a lot of Germans, and Italians and Dutch, and some people can be rude, but no more or less than us Brits! We had our 14 yr old daughter with us and there was always plenty to do: exercises by the pool , water sports on the beach, slides, mini golf, and I can recommend the mojitos! We are returning for our second visit in July, we have stayed in many hotels in Side and this one is special.
Superb value
Just wanted to pay a well earned compliment to the hotel management and staff at the Turquoise in Side. A very very good hotel which is made into a great hotel by the quality of the staff at every level. I would rate it a good four star with 5 star facilities..looks a little tired in places but absolutely nothing to complain about. Specifics:- Location : Could not be better. Half hour walk to Side centre and ruins along the beach - or dolmus every few minutes for 1 euro each - or taxi for 5/6 euros full car. Pine forest at the front and beach at the rear. safe bathing; Three pools; Cleanliness - rooms etc: 10/10. Food: All buffet but truly excellent. Amazing considering the numbers and diffferent nationalities involved ( 800 - 1000 per meal time ! ) Always huge choices from 2 soups to 5/6 types of bread; 22+ cold vegetarian dishes; 10/12 salad choices; meat, fish and poultry choices at virtually every meal; rice, potatoes, ( 3/4 types ), pasta; and never less than 20+ dessert choices ! Impossible to eat it all. All inclusive: ? Means exactly that - 24/7 for food and top quality booze. And 1st class sauna and steam room and fitness facilties. And not one drunk in siight! Also disco and entertainment every night if required but in no way intrusive. Clientele? 70% German; 20% Russian or East European; few Dutch, English and French. We are already thinking of booking for next year. Tips? If like us you wish to visit the notable sites at Aspendos and Perge and / or Antalya - all good. Suggest you get a dolum into Manavgat ( 1 Euro each ) and do an easy deal with a taxi driver there who will do a half or full day trip for up to 4 people for between 50 - 60 Euros in total. Entry fees are less than a fiver each..given that the tour guys charge around £31 each the savings are enormous. Enjoy.
Superb hotel
This hotel was one of the best I have ever stayed in! Set in a pine forest with beautiful gardens that led to the beach. All the staff were nice and worked very hard. There were literally hundreds of sunbeds and a similar number of umbrellas. Tne beds were all around 3 swimming pools, the gardens, the beach and also 2 huge piers which jutted out in to the sea. There were numerous bars so you were never more than a few metres from a drink! Food was neverending and very plentiful. The animation team worked very hard and were very funny, and a couple of times a week there were live bands and other acts. As an animal lover I hate seeing all the mangy hungry cats that usually hang around hotels, but here there were only about 10 very healthy ones who had all been neutered and which were fed proper cat food by the hotel. English are a minority here and the only critisism I can think of is because of this the TV in the rooms only had 2 english channels (news) but about a dozen german ones! A last plus point, you were issued with a credit card type proof of being a guest instead of those awful wrist bands! Happy holidays!
Stunning Location
We are a Guernsey couple and this was our first visit to Turkey. The Hotel is set in a pine forest and the location is absolutely stunning. It is about 20 minute walk along the beach to Side. Beware though as the shop owners hassle you all day long. We pretended to be Russian and it worked a treat as they do not know any Russian. Once they cotton on that you are English they will try almost anything to get you in the shop. The animation team at the Hotel are fab. There are activities all day long, water polo, volleyball, pool games, archery etc etc. In the evening they put on a show. Although it is not "West End" it is good entertainment and they try very hard. There are free towels which you can get with your card. You have a card, rather than a wrist band. The food is great, there are three restaurants, plus a few snack bars, serving food pretty much 24/7. The drinks are good too, and although they are not branded, to be honest you would not know the difference. The hotel is predominately german and russian, but all the staff are polite, cheerful and can't do enough for you. If the world was not so big we would go back again this year, but we are trying Crete this year.
Great food - great for the kids
Excellent last minute break for myself, my daugher and 8 year old Grandson. Booked with Travel Republic, supurb arrangements from this company with a 12 seater minibus for just us there and back from the airport. On arrival, as the hotel was booked direct we did not have to wait for the perverbial 'welcome' meeting, we were met and greeted by an english speaking member of the guest relation staff and told all about the hotel. We were given a welcome cold drink and encouraged to ask what we wished to know. As a well traveled individual I must give this 5 stars as it meant we could get on with our holiday straight away. This hotel is very cosmopolitan with multi national guests and staff. Staff are very helpful and courteous. The food is very good with huge variety; however if you are a meat and two veg person then you may not like what is on offer on some occasions. The all inclusive is as it says and you recieve a card instead of a bracelet. The only negative I can comment on is that the air con is not on a full 24 hours which sometimes leaves you very hot when you awaken in the morning as the aircon goes off at 9am - OK if you dont sleep late - but that is why we go on holiday! The water slides are a must as is the snorkling off the pier. All in all an excellent choice.
Lovely hotel, but beware if you're not German
Just got round to writing a report on this hotel, where my girlfriend & I stayed earlier on in May this year. We booked the holiday online via teletext, with a company called Travel City Direct, & what a useless company they were. Firstly, we were told that transfer's were included (& we payed for them) which was not true...they just didn't turn up at the airport & we had to get a taxi to the hotel (about £50!). Hardly anyone speaks English, so trying to find our rep was near impossible. As it turned out, Travel City Direct do not have any of their own rep's at this resort, instead they rely on a local company who don't answer their phones or speak English when they do. The hotel was a nice surprise, though, & both the rooms & grounds were kept to a very high standard. Unfortunately the staff do not all speak English (German is their second language, as is the whole resort) so even just checking in can be a real pain, if you don't have a rep to help you. Luckily we found a rep from Thomson, a lovely lady called Deke, who was only too pleased to help us (even though we had not booked our holiday with Thomsons) . This was invaluable, especially when the shower started leaking & also when the safety-deposit box wouldn't open. The hotel staff were all very friendly, especially at meal times, & the food was always pleantiful & of good standard. There were always sun loungers available & the whole hotel is very accessable, even for pushchairs & wheelchairs. The all-inclusive drinks were also very good, with at least one bar open 24hrs a day. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone, just be aware that English is not widely spoken at the hotel & also in the resort. This is a mainly German/Russian resort & they are catered for, very well (even the shops price goods in Euro's), so take a phrase book with you! If you do decide to go, I would advise booking the holiday with a reputable company like Thomsons, as the presence of a rep' in the hotel is invaluable. I would not advise anyone to go with Travel City Direct...ANYWHERE! They were un-helpful & provided no service whatsoever. I could have booked the flight & hotel myself, if that's all I wanted (still not had the £60 I payed for transfers returned) This has not put me off & I would love to go back to Side again, it's a lovely area & has pleanty of Roman ruins to explore. Side town (about £4 taxi fare from hotel) is full of shops selling fake Jeans, t-shirts, handbags, shoes, watches & sunglasses, so if that's your thing....take a big suitcase!!
Fantastic Hotel & Holiday!
Stayed here in June 2006. We are a 23 year old couple and had a fantastic time. We managed to get a really good deal through Thomson and only paid £350 for a week (all-inclusive). The hotel was really clean and had loads of different facilities. It is split into a hotel and a number of apartment buildings. We were in an apartment type block which was great. We spent the majority of our time around the pool area which was absolutely massive! The hotel complex is a lot wider than we initially thought and there were various snack bars and restaurants towards the beach side of the complex. The 3 al-a-carte restaurants were also very good and we visited the Italian and Turkish ones. The restaurants were very good and the food was pretty nice too, a bit samey towards the end but you can't complain! One thing to mention is some strange food combinations as they seemed to cater for the German / Russian market but overall the meals were very good. I would especially recommend the lower tier of the restaurant at night which is quite close to the beach and very nice/clean. You can drink as much as you like and almost all of the spirits were branded. The beer is Efes which is also pretty good - they don't have pint glasses though unfortunately! The staff were very friendly and seemed to have a lot of time for British guests - who were far and away the most polite people staying at the hotel! It was amazing to watch how some other guests from Germany / Russia were completely rude to staff members who are running around all day doing whatever they can to help! One of the only problems with the holiday were with a certain nation who managed to wake up before everybody else to reserve sunbeds! And considering that the guests were 80% German you can probably guess which nation it was! Although some people were very considerate and gave up beds for us. Side itself wasn't too impressive but it was quite easy/cheap to get there by taxi straight outside the hotel. We went out one night to a restaurant called "Orfus" down by the harbour and the food was amazing and really good value. Overall the holiday was fantastic and we would probably return if we found the same deal again! 4 out of 5!
EXCELLENT
My partner and I went to the Turquoise this May, to say we were impressed was an understatement, our room was lovely the cleanest and tidiest hotel we have ever been to. The food standard was excellent nobody complained or had bad tummys, the food was high quality and varied we were spoilt for choice. The only draw back was the snacks on a night 11 till 12 it was soup and we did not bother. The only problem we had was our room it was smelly due to a recent leak, we reported this and were moved imediatley to another room with our approval first and fresh fruit and cakes were sent to our room and an appology. We were very impressed. The pools were excellent and the adult pool had a resident tortoise that was very old and would come round the pool for a walk . The beach was lovely the sea was rocky but good for snorkeling and watching octopus off the jetty with a lovely breeze, it was 38 in the afternoon, very hot. It is a good idea to tip a barman at the begining of the week and they do go out of their way to look after you that little more. They are all polite and helpfull . The animation team are good, not to pushy and fun, they work very hard. Drinks were excellent soft and alcholic and the larger was served in half glasses we've always had plastic elsewere. An excellent choice of spirits were available. We noticed straight away that the majority of people were Russian and German there was only 70 British but no problem's with sun bed hogging they were all polite. This hotel was mainly a couple hotel but they did cater for children very well and the childrens facilities were excellent, the childrens area is situated in a place away from the main pool and the pool with the slides has a playground area, a kids club and childrens eating area catering just for them. The spa was top class and quite reasonably priced all toilets were cleaned and checked every hour on the dot and you had toilet seat covers. The disco goes on to 3 am but we did not hear the noise when the doors were closed. The gardens are lovely a real credit to the gardeners, very pretty. We went to Side old town, well worth a visit for the ruins, a half hours walk up the beach. One word of caution though, the shop lads are very harassing for your custom, very annoying to say the least, we found that if you walk down the middle of the street they are not allowed to bother you, it is a new rule the mayor has brought into the area. I would recommend this hotel and will be returning next year. We met one couple who had been 16 times. On the last note we found we were buying in sterling euros and lira we would take euros next time round or change our currancy out there. I hope you have found this information helpfull. Claire. Hull, England.
