The Belfry

Rooms were comfortable although since we visited in summer air conditioning would have been nice, although we were supplied with a fan on request. Rooms at the back of the hotel were nice and quiet. Those at the front overlooking the outside sitting area for the bar were noisy until late.
Food was good and nice choice, service in the restaurants was very good and efficient. A lot of hen and stag weekenders there which was a little off-putting.
The golf courses were always busy and although the Brabazon is their flagship we found it very wet and in places unplayable even accounting for this year's weather our home course was nowhere near as wet. The fairway sprinklers seemed to be on overtime! No reduction in price was offered though.
There was no dress rule in force on any of the courses and we saw people going out in jeans.

I have been playing golf for over 20 years and have been lucky enough to play some of the best courses in the world.
One course that I had never played, though on my doorstep, was The Belfry. So I planned a trip with 15 friends to visit and play its famous courses.
I was looking forward to walking where the greats have gone before, only to have it shattered within the first 30 minutes of arriving there.
The Golf Centre staff were arrogant and very unhelpful. It was like they were above the paying guests. The young guy who greeted (and I use that word very, very loosely) couldn’t have been more unhelpful if he’d tied. But as it turned out later, he was one of the better staff compared to the ignorant and unwelcoming receptionist I met checking in. She was ill informed an abrupt. She had a cold exterior that could turn milk from 50 yards!!
The rooms were dated and unbelievably hot. The food was served like school dinners!!
In summary the only welcoming & friendly members of staff we met was the “Starter” and Course Marshalls. So if you are planning a golf trip I would look elsewhere. The PGA National is no better than my local course (Kidderminster G.C) so if you’re looking for a weekend away to relax and enjoy golf, scrub this one of your list. Spend the same and go to the Celtic Manor. Far better courses and more importantly a friendly welcome.
