I stayed at the Crowne Plaza when I was attending an exhibition at the NEC. As far as location is concerned this hotel cannot be bettered. It is right next to the NEC Arena and all the great events put on there and it is also handy for the NEC Conference Centre and all the... more

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We had tickets booked to see the Beatles Tribute Band, the Bootleg Beatles, in December last year. But after having an stressful year, we completed forgot about booking a hotel. Last thing you need is to face the traffic for a long... more

We have stayed here twice and would recommend it. The hotel is lovely and the rooms are clean and tidy. Hotel bar and breakfast room nice. Breakfast great, cereals, fruit, cooked breakfast, juices and hot drinks. Hotel central for shops and night life. Brilliant value for money!

Hated it and left early
We booked this hotel as we were travelling to go to the Baby Show at the NEC, I am heavily pregnant with twins and we have a toddler in tow - because of this we thought we would book what we thought was the best hotel at the NEC so we could travel back the day after. On arrival the check in staff we ok - not fab, we were just given a room number and a door card and no help with bags - we were the only ones checking in at the time. When we booked the hotel we asked for a cot to be put in our room for our toddler and my husband clearly stated this. When we finally got to the room, dragging bags and a toddler it took while, there was no cot - just a sofa bed. It was clearly unsuitable for a small toddler to sleep in so i am not sure why this was the arrangement. I was far too tired to argue and we agreed that my poor hubbie would sleep in the sofa bed and i would sleep with our daughter in the bed that was clearly not Queen sized as advertised. We then tried to order some snacks, potatoes wedges and sandwiches - after 30 minutes of waiting and a hungry toddler howling in the tiny room we cracked open a packet of crisps from the mini bar hopeful that our food would arrive soon. We waited and then we waited, then we phoned the reception, in room dining apparantly never answer the phone. Apparantly it was going to be another 30 minutes for our food as the lady in charge of the room service had only just come on her shift (thanks for telling us!!!). At this we decided that we would not sleep in a shoe box with unsuitable bed accomodation for a fair price so we checked out after complaining to the duty manager who did not seem at all bothered at the mishaps that had occurred with our stay. The final insult to us was that we were charged £2.50 for a bag of crisps!!
Good Hotel but Food wasn't so good
Stayed here during an exhibition in November 2006. Here are some points that might help Location: 10 mins walk to the NEC, courtesy bus available also and was on time every time we requested it. Rooms: Clean & modern and average. No complaints although you have to pay for internet access which in my opinion should be free in every hotel. Restaurant: Overpriced, average food and terrible service. We ate there twice and on the second occasion we waited for 40 minutes to be served and about 40 minutes for food. This was on a quiet night. We took this up with the manager, who to be fair, dealt with it very well. We were offered a free meal which we took in the bar restaurant instead. Staff: Very friendly but there always seemed to be a 10 minute wait at reception. I don’t think there is much wrong with this hotel but I do think it’s overpriced for what you get. i.e Standard business Hotel
Highly recommended
We booked the airport package and were absolutely delighted with our choice- great value for money and outclasses every other airport hotel we have stayed in. Parking is on site, check in speedy, efficient and friendly and the room was perfect. We ate in the delightful bar overlooking a lake and the service was impeccable. The mini bus to the airport left on time and on our return we were picked up within minutes by the delightful driver. We will certainly be staying here again on our next visit to Birmingham.
Brilliant stop over
Has an early flight on 27/03/07 so decided to book into the Crowne Plaza the night before. Best thing we ever did ! Arrived at hotel about four in the afternoon, got checked into the family room that i had booked very very pleasant staff, very good room, all mod cons and space to move around, Had a bar snack in the bar very nice there is also a resturant but to me it was a bit pricey ! Had to order more pillows and more tea/coffee but nothing was too much of a problem. Arranged an early morning call for the next day and booked a taxi to take us to airport , left the car in the secure car park and took car keys with us. Very good price brilliant located for Birmingham airport really nice and refreshed in the morning instead of having to travel real early. When we arrived back in UK just rang hotel and free shuttle service picked us up. Would not hesitate in using again and a real plus as car keys were with us all the time ( Have heard of some horror stories when people leave car keys at airport hotels).
Typical business hotel
This is a large, well run hotel with good sized rooms. Good quiet air con and efficient staff. Quick check in. Only problem was it took ages to be served dinner. I agree with other reviews drinks expensive but bar is comfortable with good views of lake. Also very easy to find off motor way.
GREAT SERVICE AND EXCELLENT LOCATION
This hotel has good customer service, a major improvement on the Hilton opposite; yes, the drinks are expensive, but still cheaper than the Hilton and they do take care of you here and do not automatically put a service charge on the bill. We stayed because it is next door to the NEC Arena, the staff made sure we were served with our food and drinks in time for the Keane concert. The Bed and Breakfast deal is a good option because breakfast costs £15.00 pp otherwise.
NEC Arena Concert
Room standard good but cold! Food OK but drinks expensive!
Nice Rooms, Expensive Extras
I have stayed here a couple of times. We were in for one night on business and the place was up to it's usual standard. The rooms are very nice indeed, there are planty offf staff on hand and they are fhelpful. BUT..........the breakfast is £16.95 each, so nearly £35 for a couple! The breakfast is good quality, served as a buffet - but no breakfast is worth £17!
A super way to start a holiday!
We booked our pre flight stay here after reading the reviews on this site - so a thank you to all posters! We had a fabulous stay - the room was excellent - see the photos. It was bright, modern and had all those little extras that made it feel special. To be met with a complimentary tray of water/s etc was a nice touch. The views from our room were lovely and we had a very good night's sleep before our flight. Though we will not be using Birmingham Airport again (sorry, but Manchester is so much better!) we have decided that we want to return to the hotel again and use it as a base to visit the NEC. The photos speak for themselves. If you use the park and fly have no worries - it works brilliantly and the staff were great
Faultless
Got a great deal through booking agency and glad I did. Really nice hotel, from checking in to checking out. Lovely room, spacious and well spec'd. Restaurant was great; good food and attentive staff. Would most certainly go back again and again and again.....
