We stayed in Korcula town. The town is similar to Dubrovnik but on a smaller scale - an old fortified port. People were very friendly and drivers extremely considerate. The hotel was a former communist style one, with fantastic wooden ceilings. Food was basic but good and filling and there were plenty of restaurants to choose from for midday meal or snacks.
We took bus journeys to other areas of the island, hired bicycles and did some walking. The holiday was good and everything you could want from a package, though we found the island a little small for a full week.
I would recommend it as a holiday but only if you have a hire car so that you can explore the mainland as well - public transport was not good for travelling to the mainland.
