My wife and I booked Oscar's Hotel a couple of weeks before we travelled with the Direct Traveller, hoping for a little winter sun and cheer. Flew to Lanrana Airport and were driven by taxi to the Hotel. The reception and teh staff was very helpfull and friendly. We were... more

My partner and i have just returned and having read all the comments i was alittle worried. On the way in you leave the main road and see the half build blocks and think "god help me"! once you reach the hotel it is of a good 4 star standard, and its not really a problem!... more

Just had a great week at Oscars.
It is a good quality hotel and sea view rooms are superb.
Food good, though no bacon or baked beans.
Grounds and pools high quality.
Approach road area from rear is a bit grungy but not really a problem.
Walk to town takes 35 minutes.
No hesitation whatsoever in recomending this hotel to others.

We stay at Oscars twice a year. You need to hire a car to reach all the great restaurants and cafe's. Sightseeing is a must with Bellapais Abbey at the top of the list eating at the Kybele restaurant afterwards. Salamis and Famagusta then the castles. Hotel rooms clean... more

To be honest this hotel made my holiday awful. I love Cyprus but this is one of the first times I haven't enjoyed myself out there. For the first 4 nights ants came into my room and crawled over all of my stuff, the halls are barely lit and it's in a slum area which is... more

Having just returned from a week’s stay in Oscars. We arrived at Larnaca at night & our transfer was by a driver who we can only assume has not long passed his driving test. A bit of a hair raising transfer in the dark. Having arrived, extremely grateful in one piece,... more

I have read some adverse reports as to the standard at this resort. I have been staying there for 10 years and can only express surprise that a small minority have seen fit to complain, probably after their return. There has been some expansion to the hotel and inevitably... more

Having stayed at Oscars back in 1992, we thought that we would give it a go in 2003. The resort was exactly how we remembered it, albeit a little bit more commercial. Our young son found the pools to be fantastic and all the staff were so friendly. Whilst the approach to... more

An Oscar for Oscars
Just stayed at Oscars for week and it was delightfull. It is around 35 minutes walk from town but there is a toy train for those who don't want to walk. Food, room, grounds and pools were all of a very high standard. Area to rear of hotel on approach road is the usual mediterranean mix of rather scruffy half completed buildings - not a major problem, but recommend sea view rooms rather than inland Sea view rooms really are sea views. Staff friendly and helpful. Would certainly visit again.
A Wonderful and Pleasant experience
When travelling to Northern Cyprus I ws anxious due to it being a relative unknown country. I was amazed by the warm hospitality and the beauty of the country. The Oscar hotel had a lovely setting. The sea and mountains providing a picturesque surrounding for us to enjoy. The food was always at a high standard and the terrace bar, even though sometimes cool at night, provided a lovely location for a night time drink. All the staff were very nice, always smiling, helpful and all round superb. Our room had a big terrace with a lovely sea view. Kyrenia the town in close proximity was beautiful with its lovely harbour cafes and all round setting. I would advise the hotel, the country to all. A definite holiday destination.
amazing holiday
me, my wife and my little daughter spent a week at Oscars during august. We have been there 2 years ago and decided to stay again when we heard that it was renovated. Whole building is renovated, they changed all rooms with contemporary style furnitures. We again enjoyed our holiday with lovely, helpfull staff and delicious foods! Also my little daughter enjoyed the yellow train which runs 3 times everyday to town. we advise Oscar to singles and also for families. We bet you will have a wonderful time!!
Brilliant Atmosphere
After spending a week in the Oscars Hotel I am delighted to say that I had a wonderful holiday from start to finish. The sea view room in the hotel was nicely furnished and very comfortable. The breakfast and dinner was very tasty and the staff were always helpful. The hotel had good facilities with its indoor pool and nice lounge area. The walking distance to the town centre is a nice fifteen minute stroll. There are new walking routes currently being constructed. However when we didnt want to walk there were free shuttle services or cheap taxis outside the hotel. There are nice restaurants in close proximity to the hotel including indian and local cuisine. My other half felt the same as me and overall we had an excellent holiday and I would recommend it to all.
interesting stay, very helpful staff!
We had just a quick stay in Oscar's last weekend. The price was outstanding and thus I chose a suite with Jacuzzi.. We settled in, chilled the bubbly and filled the Jacuzzi - pressed the button to start it... ..and nothing. Called the reception and they were extremely helpful, send a mechanic (with radio, screwdriver and a roll of tape) he was tapping the side of the Jacuzzi, but didn't really know what was going on... So, we eventually went to reception, got offered another room... but they quickly decided this wasn't good either as half of the plaster was coming off the wall - and the repair job WAS on the way - but still not finished. So we got an upgrade to the King Suite room. Really nice room! so filled the Jacuzzi - again - and settled in, turned it off just to see all the water flying on the walls and out to the bedroom... At this stage we were in giggling fits..! Decided not to change a room again.. In the morning we addressed the reception regarding the issue and they kindly wiped off the couple of drinks we had from the mini bar and promised us a reduction on the rates again should we wish to return. Staff was all the way through helpful, kind, and nice. so I wasn't put off forever.. Just give them a bit of time to upgrade the rooms and you'll be fine! I have stayed there before and the pool area is fantastic - this time of the year we didn't venture out to use them, though.. bit too cold!
Good position, good service, good value
I spend 7 nights at Oscar's Resort Hotel and had no any difficulty as other rewies which mentioned. Arrived to hotel at late night and found super deluxe room, air coditioning, room facilities are satisfactory, room cleaners are super, service personnal and reception staff brilliant. My wife & I enjoyed with the Health Club which opens 4:00pm to 10:00pm. Indoor swimming pool available at 9:00am until 10:00pm. We loved their naughty litle train which rund to Kyrenia three times but loved to walk in the day to town center. We exprience the old bazaar in the old castle and loved the coffee smell around the streets. Hotel was nice and we the price acceptable value, You can enjoy your Efes beer about £ 2.75, eating at hotel ruffly £ 14.50 the buffed, choice of fresh food makes you feel much comfortable. We already booked our next visit Ray
Not 4 star
Hi, i stayed at Oscars resort in September and had read the reviews before i went. I was ready for the run down area surrounding the hotel, when you first enter the hotel it looks impressive all marbel but the lack of air con. in the communial areas soon gets you down. The rooms look good on the surface but have been renovated to a poor standard and the bathrooms are disgusting and in need of a good clean. The food was good and plenty of it and the pancakes at breakfast were first class. the pool areas are big with plenty of sunbeds for everyone, no need to rush down with your towel (not that i would ever do that) but the constant waft of the sweet smell of sewage does at some pionts during the day become unbearable. The bar staff were friendly but the prices were very expensive, having said that they would serve you until the very early hours and you could even get a cheese burger at 03.00 hours to soak up the beer. I spent many a long hour sat on the sun terrace chatting to friends drinking, it was one of the best pionts of the holiday. It is easy to get a taxi into the habour and only costs about £3 were the beer is cheaper and the atmosphere is superb. If you are expecting U.K. 4 star standards you will be disappionted.
Sun, sea and no air-con
My husband and I stayed at Oscars for two weeks in July. The weather was wonderfully hot. However, on leaving your room in the evening, there was no air-con in the hotels public areas and everyone complained. The only time they turned it on was when Mr Oscar made a visit downstairs. As soon as he went, so did the air-con. I complained politely and then each time I arrived at the hotel they would put it on. On leaving at the end of our stay I was told next year it will be on. Rubbish they just wanted to ensure I returned. Memhet behind the bar was wonderful, very friendly, helpful. We enjoyed our holiday, it was an experience but northern cyprus is very dirty and run down. Yes some people are sincere but there are an awful lot that are just out for what they can get. It was an experience but one not to be repeated. When we went to the bar at night, I dont think I met one person who didnt feel the same. Cyprus Paradise, the holiday company we went with are a definite one to miss. Unhelpful, transfer from hell in minibus before getting on decent transport at border. One poor couple only found out their hotel was having work done as they got off the coach. Also, the courtesy drink is a tiny carton of orange or apple juice - the type kids have in packed lunches. Don't complain to the rep, they just answer you back or give you a dirty look. Have plenty of spending money too. Trips are expensive. Drinks are comparable with here, and there is nowhere to shop for anything half way decent. Also, make sure you have some cyprus pounds if you are travelling through Larnaca. We couldn't get anything to eat or drink till we got on plane because no-one takes turkish lira. If you just want to experience it then fine, but if you want a good holiday, go to another country.
Good holiday but mixed feelings
We had a lovely holiday and anyone who has already booked shouldn't be concerned. However if you have not booked I'll summarise my thoughts: Rooms: Pink palace (apartments) not nice and need refurbished; hotel rooms I believe are lovely; mini villas nicely laid out, shower-room not nice and wiring very odd. Problems we had which were all resolved: we were put into wrong rooms (probably travel agend fault to be fair) and had to spend one night in pink palace; key to villa became faulty each day; mini villa door didn't lock; safe not working. Didn't like shower room - shower leaked and shower head didn't fit into overhead attachment. Also, self catering very basic, take your own dish towel and cork screw. From time to time on windy days you can smell the sewage in the sea. We were told not to swim in the sea. Service: very good, with an exception on the reception desk, but mostly very friendly and helpful. Overall: probably not a 4-star hotel, and not the best value for money and requires more attention to detail to justify it, but the hotel is very relaxing, well laid out and the children love the slides. Breakfast was good and you can hire towels for the pool. The surrounding area is like a war zone but wasn't as bad as I had expected after reading the reviews! In a few years time I am sure it will all look very different. There is a lot of investment being made into north cyprus. Recommend: taxis are cheap but restaurants in Bellapais will collect you and return you for dinner. Ask reception to arrange. We went to Acapulco beach resort along the coast as they had even better slides (charge for entry). Niazi's in Kyrenia (opposite Dome Hotel) is a great restaurant as is Cafe & Arts down from the Bazaar and round tower. Avoid "Italian Set Restaurant". We went to the old town in Nicosia taking a bus from Kyrenia. Very interesting, albeit the war zone appearance still, it is being refurbished.
Much better than I expected!
Having just returned from two weeks there I can happily say that it was much, much better than I expected from some of the reviews. I arrived in the early hours of the morning, through what I initially thought was a bomb site on the outskirts of the hotel, only to be meet by a lot of friendly & polite staff. Who quickly settled me into my nice, newly decorated, clean & comfortable room (although one of the beds was rather hard). This level of good & friendly service was kept throughout my stay. I am pleased to say that the food was generally good too. Whilst the breakfast is a bit bland with long cues for freshly cooked omlettes. The lunches at the pool side bar & the buffet dinners in the restaurant were very good. Its nice to see a hotel buffet where they do change the range of dishes each night. Outside there is a small beach, but its not up to much. So its better to use the gardens & the three outside pools which are all good & well kept. Although the main pool was closed one day due to an algae problem, it was clean again the next day. The surroundings around the hotel are not great it must be said. Kyrenia Harbour is very pretty (as is a lot of the North Cyprus countryside), but the town itself is not the best looking place. Do go & have a look at nearby Bellapais village & Abbey plus the Kyrenia Castle. I came away feeling happy, relaxed & with a good suntan, which is exactly what I wanted. I intend to go back & happily recommend it.
