Comments:  Just had a great week at Oscars.

It is a good quality hotel and sea view rooms are superb.

Food good, though no bacon or baked beans.

Grounds and pools high quality.

Approach road area from rear is a bit grungy but not really a problem.

Walk to town takes 35 minutes.

No hesitation whatsoever in recomending this hotel to others.

Comments:  We stay at Oscars twice a year. You need to hire a car to reach all the great restaurants and cafe's. Sightseeing is a must with Bellapais Abbey at the top of the list eating at the Kybele restaurant afterwards. Salamis and Famagusta then the castles.

Hotel rooms clean with fridge and hairdryer welcome.. We always have a room overlooking the sea. The swimming pools and gardens are second to none. You never have to search for a sunbed. Service good and staff helpful. Approach to hotel a bit like down town Beirut but you always feel safe.

People warm and friendly. Weekly market on a Wednesday worth a visit. We will continue to return to Oscars twice a year to us it is home from home.

Comments:  I have just come back from Oscars and found the staff and hotel very pleasant. We were first put into the Pink Court Apartments and were not happy with the condition of it and were after about 20 mins changed to the main hotel rooms which were very clean, comfortable and well furnished.

The breakfast was very nice. However there wasn't much entertainment in the evenings apart from the guitar man who was really good. We recommend going on the boat trip, the staff on the boat were friendly and the food was lovely. At the Turkish night we experienced a beautiful view of the village and monastery but the food was not good value.

Overall we had a great time and would go to Oscars again, the staff were all efficient and friendly.

Comments:  Having just returned from a week’s stay in Oscars.

We arrived at Larnaca at night & our transfer was by a driver who we can only assume has not long passed his driving test. A bit of a hair raising transfer in the dark.

Having arrived, extremely grateful in one piece, were shown to our rooms. One double & one twin. The rooms have just been refurbished, so not bad. As usual it takes a day or so to get used to the surroundings. Our rooms were located near the front of the hotel above reception & we had no problem with slamming car doors from the casino. (Although you might, being the casino side of reception).

Breakfast was good, a variety to suit all. However, don’t leave your cutlery unattended when you go for seconds as it will be whipped off the table by the overzealous waiters :-) We didn't use the hotel restaurant for evening meals. We tried various restaurants down in Kyrenia town centre & the harbour.

There was not a restaurant that didn't come recommended by someone. They are all good. However, do not go with the intention of getting a snack. They are all large meals; however, they were happy to oblige my daughter & I sharing a meal.

'Cyprus night' is okay depending on the company you go with! The hotel really could do with some evening entertainment. We had on one occasion a singer! Lovely man who must have listened to his Bob Marley CD over & over as they were the only songs he sang in his broken English! Made us laugh anyway!

There are three lovely pools all with plenty of sun beds & room around & didn’t feel at all crowded for August. One of them has a great snack bar my son kept returning for frankfurter & chips from at lunch time! The other a wave pool & the last one a slide pool. Great for kids, (even had a go myself at the wave slide) The beach is the only real let down.

The sea is wonderful & clean & looks really inviting; however, you can't get to it easily. There was a platoon you walked out onto & used steps from to get into the sea. Even did some snorkelling from there. Not many fish but a few. It wasn’t very tidy though & looked a bit like a building site with rubble. Don't think they have quite finished it off. It could be really lovely so would be worth trying to finding out if it is finished for your hols.

Overall, not really impressed with Northern Cyprus. Although turtle beach is a must whilst your there. We were lucky & saw the turtle project people open a 60 day nest & release the hatchlings into the sea. wonderful experience. An awful lot of building of properties going on but this didn’t interfere with our holiday or the hotel.

Personal safety is fine there seems very little crime. Worth the visit but wouldn't return.

Comments:  We've just come back from a nice relaxing two weeks here. The weather was bad to begin with, but soon settled to hot and sunny.

The hotel was kept reasonably clean and there was plenty of friendly staff waiting on at meal times. Breakfasts were enjoyable with a good choice of foods to suit most, [no bacon though].
The evening meals were good to, a four course dinner with drink costing about £15 a head.

The swimming pools were clean, large, and had plenty of sun beds to go round. You could have lunch and an ice cold beer at the pool bar for about £8.

The man made beach wasn’t much to speak of. The hotel lobby bar was a bit on the quite side, it could do with some entertainment please. Would I come back? Answer, Yes.

Comments:  To be honest this hotel made my holiday awful. I love Cyprus but this is one of the first times I haven't enjoyed myself out there. For the first 4 nights ants came into my room and crawled over all of my stuff, the halls are barely lit and it's in a slum area which is unappealing. The views are nice but the gardens aren't lit so you can't walk around much at night. If you want a nice holiday, go to the Pia Bella, thats the nicest hotel in Cyprus, the people are friendly and the hotel is clean and well kept.

My advice, avoid Oscars at all costs, the only good thing there was their breakfast.

Comments:  I have read some adverse reports as to the standard at this resort. I have been staying there for 10 years and can only express surprise that a small minority have seen fit to complain, probably after their return.

There has been some expansion to the hotel and inevitably this will have some effect to guests but this was kept as gar as possible to the low season. The value for money is second to none and the food always well presented with a wide choice but it is not a Brewersfayre.

Fresh omelettes cooked to order are not commonplace in a country that enjoys a breakfast of cheese tomatoes and olives. There is also a wave machine (the only one in the TRNC).
The staff are exceptional and whilst problems do occasionally arise a simple thing like a light bulb is change immediately on request at reception. The staff are fantastic and the owner is always both available and approachable.

I now consider them my very good friends and I am about to return for the second time in 2 months. As is the case in the UK people tend to complain when they have left the venue when a word at the time would reap a quick remedy.

This is a developing country eager to please and with a friendly attitude second to none.
There is no better example of this than Oscars.

Comments:  Having read this site after we booked we made sure we managed our expectations, and yes it is a little scruffy on the road into the hotel, however the hotel has offered to pay to have these apartments tidied up and the residents have declined, but we thought it added to the character of the place. Wherever we went we felt safe, and people always smiled at you and nodded recognition.

Yes, there is a lot of building work going on, however most places you visit, where tourism is starting to increase, this will be the case.

We loved the restaurants in the harbour area, and yes, people stopped us and asked if we would like to eat at their establishment, but if we politely declined they were happy to wish us a good day and to call again one day. The Alesta Kebab House, at the top of the road from Oscars was excellent value and the food was really good - the hospitality was unbelievable, and although it looks nothing from the outside we were made extremely welcome.

One place to def visit is the Lusignan Art & Cafe Bar, but you'll have to book, as they have a beautiful courtyard garden with approx 6 - 7 tables only, they serve the most wonderful fresh local produce and it is all home made and home cooked. Oscars itself needs a facelift and needs to just sharpen up a bit on it's customer service - otherwise it will lose out to other hotels.

We had a couple of minor issues with our room on arrival, but to be fair they changed it for us on the next day and we moved in to the Pink Court Gallery Style Apartments. Don't expect to be able to cook a meal in the self catering apartments, you have two electric rings, a kettle a fridge and two pans. Extremely basic, Oscars take note - add a Toaster to the agenda!

Would go back again, poss would go to Oscars when they have spruced up a bit, however all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and our apartment was cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied every day.

Comments:  We arrived in the dark at Oscars, and after reading the reviews we were expecting what the general area would be like. True, it is surrounded by civil and building work, but that is the case over most of Northern Cyprus.

Once inside the hotel this is forgotten. The resort is clean, and must be ideal for families during the high season. Food in the hotel and surrounding restaurants is acceptable unless you are a very discerning diner. Of course you can visit pricy establishments if that is your preference.

The agency staff were most obliging, and, after suffering a minor accident, they could not do enough for me.

I was accompanied to the hospital by an agency manager, who handled every thing personally an efficiently. We will return to Oscars.

Comments:  Cannot agree with the negative reviews of Oscars. Agreed the first impression in unfavourable, as the road to the hotel contains some unhappy looking blocks of flats. But the hotel itself we found to be clean, tidy, staffed attentively and excellent value.

The location is not on the 'best' side of Kyrenia, and you do have to walk a bit or hire a car (reasonable value) to get to the centre, but what is this about nowhere to eat? We found far more restaurants than we could fit into a fortnight and the vast majority were excellent. The food at Oscars was much better than expected too.

Can only sum it up by saying that we have already booked again for the summer.

Comments:  You should hire a car if you stay here as the hotel is located in an unfinished surrounding area and is some distance from Girne centre.

Be sure to stay at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea as if you don’t you will be kept awake all night by car doors banging from people attending the attached Casino.

The staff are friendly but suggest you stay b&b as the dinner menu is somewhat limited.

Views from the front of the hotel include the new harbour, sea, swimming pools and attractive gardens.

Comments:  Having stayed at Oscars back in 1992, we thought that we would give it a go in 2003. The resort was exactly how we remembered it, albeit a little bit more commercial. Our young son found the pools to be fantastic and all the staff were so friendly.

Whilst the approach to the site does look like a ghetto, it is part of the experience. There is no crime here, at no time does one feel threatened, and due to the lack of commercial bars and nightclubs, there are no British larger louts, (unlike the southern side of the island).

The variety of food and restaurants is plentiful and some of the local places are excellent and a fraction of the price of the sea front restaurants. Whilst a car is desirable, the town is only a 20 minute walk, and a taxi is only £2.00 each way. There is a free bus service which also runs 3 or 4 times a day.

This resort is great for families with children as the pools are safe, and the waterslide and wave pool adds a bit of excitement.

Granted the accommodation is basic, but hey, the weather is guaranteed, and this is far cheaper than being under cavass in Brittany.

We enjoy North Cyprus so much, and Oscars that we went back in 2004, 05 and can't wait until July 06 as we've booked once again.

Comments:  My family had a fantastic time at Oscars, the staff are second to none, the bar staff, in the main bar were so friendly they made my husband and my evening drink they were so friendly we are still in touch.

Ok the road leading up to Oscars is a mess but the locals, all nod and smile, we have just returned from Gumbet in turkey and my 8 year old son says Oscars and Kyrenia, is much better so now we are looking to go to Oscars in September, and we all cant wait,
Give it a try your kids will love it, (so did we).

On the down side the journey with an hour stop over was horrible, so I am looking for a way to fly to Famagosta and coach to Oscars.
Go on give it a try.

Comments:  The quote of the holiday is from another guest we met whilst struggling to be served at the hotel bar,” this was the first holiday he’d ever been on when a week would have been long enough”.

Oscar Resort is located to the east of Girne [Kyrenia] and is surrounded by low rise flats; those nearest to the hotel appear to best resemble something from the back streets of Beirut, being half completed and in a very poor state.

However we enjoyed an excellent twin room enjoying great views of the swimming pool, gardens and bay area. It was provided with a TV, Mini Bar and kettle and two cups and spoons, but nothing to make to drink in them! Mind you, in the later evenings we wouldn’t have needed a kettle as the mixer taps in the bathroom only provided scorching hot water, no cold; great for cleaning the teeth before retiring, another challenge were the gloomy and darkly lit hotel corridors are also partially carpeted, and these floor coverings also offer the unique feature of being worn at the edges, making tripping and falling much easier!

Girne has some potential to be a tourist town at some time in the distant future, but not yet. There are a number of restaurants and bars clustered around the harbour, but move away from that area and everything is non-tourist, or closed. A taxi from the hotel is 5 lira each way [approx £2.15] There is a lot of touting for food business in the evenings, and the level of persistence drives you crazy; these guys here keep on and on, and on!

Food choice appears to be based mainly on a range of two or the course set menus at around 22 lira [approx £9.50 pp], and wine is also surprisingly expensive with the local house wines at around 25 lira per bottle, if you want a modest imported Turkish wine you could be paying up to 45 lira. One other thing, there appears to either be piped music going between all the eating places or one compilation CD of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Gene Kelly that is shared. We heard the damned thing every were we ate!

If you don’t want to eat or drink in Oscars, once again you will be disappointed, as there are a very limited number of places nearby that you can go to on foot. There is a Kebab House on the main road, [again playing that damned compilation CD!], and what appears to be a very naff Chinese Restaurant.

Our recommendation? If you like Turkey or Greece, stay with it. If you like dust, dirt, cement mixers and expensive indifferent service, give N Cyprus & Oscars a try.

Comments:  I wish I had found this site before going to the Oscar resort although the people working there were helpful and friendly the resort is in the middle of a building site.

We stayed in the studio pink app although we ask for a one bed they were not ready. Every day we were woken at 6.30/7am by a building site right next door even Sat and Sun we stayed a week but if it had been any longer I would have paid to move. You have to get a taxi every where because immediately you leave the hotel it is a slum area and if you do walk to the main harbour you have to cross 2 busy main roads.

Please don’t be put off Kyrenia but if you do go stay the other side of the harbour the biggest land mark is the Dome Hotel this area is more established and I saw no building work.
