" Nice hotel "
Submitted By: dynamoOn the way in you leave the main road and see the half build blocks and think "god help me"! once you reach the hotel it is of a good 4 star standard, and its not really a problem!
Staff, food, rooms and pools are all really nice. The "beach" is not really a beach but you can get into the sea and swim (which is warmer than the pools).
There is no nightlife in this hotel, I went 5 months pregnant to relax and it was worth every penny.
" Just had a great week at Oscars.
It is a good quality hotel and sea view rooms are superb.
Food good, though no bacon or baked beans.
Grounds and pools high quality.
Approach road area from rear is a bit grungy but not really a problem.
Walk to town takes 35 minutes.
No hesitation whatsoever in recomending this hotel to others.

Submitted By: Mrs J DemontiHotel rooms clean with fridge and hairdryer welcome.. We always have a room overlooking the sea. The swimming pools and gardens are second to none. You never have to search for a sunbed. Service good and staff helpful. Approach to hotel a bit like down town Beirut but you always feel safe.
People warm and friendly. Weekly market on a Wednesday worth a visit. We will continue to return to Oscars twice a year to us it is home from home.

Submitted By: Mrs AhmetThe breakfast was very nice. However there wasn't much entertainment in the evenings apart from the guitar man who was really good. We recommend going on the boat trip, the staff on the boat were friendly and the food was lovely. At the Turkish night we experienced a beautiful view of the village and monastery but the food was not good value.
Overall we had a great time and would go to Oscars again, the staff were all efficient and friendly.

Submitted By: Mrs F DewittWe arrived at Larnaca at night & our transfer was by a driver who we can only assume has not long passed his driving test. A bit of a hair raising transfer in the dark.
Having arrived, extremely grateful in one piece, were shown to our rooms. One double & one twin. The rooms have just been refurbished, so not bad. As usual it takes a day or so to get used to the surroundings. Our rooms were located near the front of the hotel above reception & we had no problem with slamming car doors from the casino. (Although you might, being the casino side of reception).
Breakfast was good, a variety to suit all. However, don’t leave your cutlery unattended when you go for seconds as it will be whipped off the table by the overzealous waiters :-) We didn't use the hotel restaurant for evening meals. We tried various restaurants down in Kyrenia town centre & the harbour.
There was not a restaurant that didn't come recommended by someone. They are all good. However, do not go with the intention of getting a snack. They are all large meals; however, they were happy to oblige my daughter & I sharing a meal.
'Cyprus night' is okay depending on the company you go with! The hotel really could do with some evening entertainment. We had on one occasion a singer! Lovely man who must have listened to his Bob Marley CD over & over as they were the only songs he sang in his broken English! Made us laugh anyway!
There are three lovely pools all with plenty of sun beds & room around & didn’t feel at all crowded for August. One of them has a great snack bar my son kept returning for frankfurter & chips from at lunch time! The other a wave pool & the last one a slide pool. Great for kids, (even had a go myself at the wave slide) The beach is the only real let down.
The sea is wonderful & clean & looks really inviting; however, you can't get to it easily. There was a platoon you walked out onto & used steps from to get into the sea. Even did some snorkelling from there. Not many fish but a few. It wasn’t very tidy though & looked a bit like a building site with rubble. Don't think they have quite finished it off. It could be really lovely so would be worth trying to finding out if it is finished for your hols.
Overall, not really impressed with Northern Cyprus. Although turtle beach is a must whilst your there. We were lucky & saw the turtle project people open a 60 day nest & release the hatchlings into the sea. wonderful experience. An awful lot of building of properties going on but this didn’t interfere with our holiday or the hotel.
Personal safety is fine there seems very little crime. Worth the visit but wouldn't return.

Submitted By: Mr D SchenkelThe hotel was kept reasonably clean and there was plenty of friendly staff waiting on at meal times. Breakfasts were enjoyable with a good choice of foods to suit most, [no bacon though].
The evening meals were good to, a four course dinner with drink costing about £15 a head.
The swimming pools were clean, large, and had plenty of sun beds to go round. You could have lunch and an ice cold beer at the pool bar for about £8.
The man made beach wasn’t much to speak of. The hotel lobby bar was a bit on the quite side, it could do with some entertainment please. Would I come back? Answer, Yes.

Submitted By: Ms Wendy StevensOk the road leading up to Oscars is a mess but the locals, all nod and smile, we have just returned from Gumbet in turkey and my 8 year old son says Oscars and Kyrenia, is much better so now we are looking to go to Oscars in September, and we all cant wait,
Give it a try your kids will love it, (so did we).
On the down side the journey with an hour stop over was horrible, so I am looking for a way to fly to Famagosta and coach to Oscars.
Go on give it a try.

Submitted By: Mr M LawThere has been some expansion to the hotel and inevitably this will have some effect to guests but this was kept as gar as possible to the low season. The value for money is second to none and the food always well presented with a wide choice but it is not a Brewersfayre.
Fresh omelettes cooked to order are not commonplace in a country that enjoys a breakfast of cheese tomatoes and olives. There is also a wave machine (the only one in the TRNC).
The staff are exceptional and whilst problems do occasionally arise a simple thing like a light bulb is change immediately on request at reception. The staff are fantastic and the owner is always both available and approachable.
I now consider them my very good friends and I am about to return for the second time in 2 months. As is the case in the UK people tend to complain when they have left the venue when a word at the time would reap a quick remedy.
This is a developing country eager to please and with a friendly attitude second to none.
There is no better example of this than Oscars.

Submitted By: Miss L SwindenYes, there is a lot of building work going on, however most places you visit, where tourism is starting to increase, this will be the case.
We loved the restaurants in the harbour area, and yes, people stopped us and asked if we would like to eat at their establishment, but if we politely declined they were happy to wish us a good day and to call again one day. The Alesta Kebab House, at the top of the road from Oscars was excellent value and the food was really good - the hospitality was unbelievable, and although it looks nothing from the outside we were made extremely welcome.
One place to def visit is the Lusignan Art & Cafe Bar, but you'll have to book, as they have a beautiful courtyard garden with approx 6 - 7 tables only, they serve the most wonderful fresh local produce and it is all home made and home cooked. Oscars itself needs a facelift and needs to just sharpen up a bit on it's customer service - otherwise it will lose out to other hotels.
We had a couple of minor issues with our room on arrival, but to be fair they changed it for us on the next day and we moved in to the Pink Court Gallery Style Apartments. Don't expect to be able to cook a meal in the self catering apartments, you have two electric rings, a kettle a fridge and two pans. Extremely basic, Oscars take note - add a Toaster to the agenda!
Would go back again, poss would go to Oscars when they have spruced up a bit, however all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and our apartment was cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied every day.

Submitted By: Mr N CulhaneWhilst the approach to the site does look like a ghetto, it is part of the experience. There is no crime here, at no time does one feel threatened, and due to the lack of commercial bars and nightclubs, there are no British larger louts, (unlike the southern side of the island).
The variety of food and restaurants is plentiful and some of the local places are excellent and a fraction of the price of the sea front restaurants. Whilst a car is desirable, the town is only a 20 minute walk, and a taxi is only £2.00 each way. There is a free bus service which also runs 3 or 4 times a day.
This resort is great for families with children as the pools are safe, and the waterslide and wave pool adds a bit of excitement.
Granted the accommodation is basic, but hey, the weather is guaranteed, and this is far cheaper than being under cavass in Brittany.
We enjoy North Cyprus so much, and Oscars that we went back in 2004, 05 and can't wait until July 06 as we've booked once again.

Submitted By: N McMahonOnce inside the hotel this is forgotten. The resort is clean, and must be ideal for families during the high season. Food in the hotel and surrounding restaurants is acceptable unless you are a very discerning diner. Of course you can visit pricy establishments if that is your preference.
The agency staff were most obliging, and, after suffering a minor accident, they could not do enough for me.
I was accompanied to the hospital by an agency manager, who handled every thing personally an efficiently. We will return to Oscars.

Submitted By: Mr J PetersThe location is not on the 'best' side of Kyrenia, and you do have to walk a bit or hire a car (reasonable value) to get to the centre, but what is this about nowhere to eat? We found far more restaurants than we could fit into a fortnight and the vast majority were excellent. The food at Oscars was much better than expected too.
Can only sum it up by saying that we have already booked again for the summer.
" You should hire a car if you stay... "
Submitted By: Mr JD ThompsonBe sure to stay at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea as if you don’t you will be kept awake all night by car doors banging from people attending the attached Casino.
The staff are friendly but suggest you stay b&b as the dinner menu is somewhat limited.
Views from the front of the hotel include the new harbour, sea, swimming pools and attractive gardens. <br>

Health & Fitness Club and the tennis court was superb facilities for your health condition.
Hotel staff did their best to help us on evert moment during our stay.
This was the first time we had been to Northern Cyprus. This hotel was outstanding in every way. The only complaint that we have so smoking is permitted everyehere in the restaurant and the lobby lounge. You must go out from lounge to terrace and not compfortable to smoke outside while the rain on any way,
Took little train to Kyrenia Center and loved it very much.
Very good hotel restaurant food and reasonable price of baverages.
This year in 2009 Spetember we decided to go there again.
Halo
Advice: Loved Kyrenia
Activities: Fantastic number of restaurants
Good for: Beach City Breaks
