Kissimmee Pines Reviews
" My partner and I had been looking... "
Submitted By: Miss D King
My partner and I had been looking forward to our dream holiday in Florida. The picture of Kissimmee Pines in Florida looked really lovely in the brochure and the facilities and amenities sounded just fine. Sadly the moment we arrived at the accommodation, we had problems.
<br><br>
The owner provided us with room 26 which whilst not quite representing the type of decor and facilities detailed in the brochure, it would have been fine. We made the mistake to say we were smokers (however, we were well aware that some accommodation did not like smoking in rooms and were already prepared to smoke outside). The owner on hearing that we smoked moved us to another room and provided an ashtray to share with our neighbours (we were room 303 and they were room 302).
<br><br>
The room we moved to was disgusting; it smelled of damp and mildew; the sheets and blankets were filthy; the room was not cleaned; there was no control for air conditioning/temperature control to be found in the room. We told the owner that we weren’t happy with the accommodation and that it didn’t reflect the description in the brochure. He wouldn’t move us back to room 26 or to any other room and said that we would have to take what we were given. We were so tired from the flight and drive to the hotel that we just wanted to retire to bed. It was about 7pm and Florida was very cold for the first few days we arrived, especially in the evening it was about 35 to 40 degrees. At these temps in the UK we would have the central heating on!
<br><br>
However, as we couldn’t find a control for the next 2 days, nor could we find or contact the owner, we slept in our clothes and had chattering teeth all night for 2 nights. On the second night I telephoned the emergency line for the first choice and asked if they knew how to contact the owner as we were freezing in our room and that if it got much worse we would have to sleep in the car we had rented. In the end this was what we resorted to in order to keep warm!
<br>
On the Sunday the representative was visiting the hotel and so we discussed the problems with the room with her and she came and viewed the room and also that of our neighbour at 302 who was having exactly the same problems.
<br><br>
The owner finally came also to view the rooms and decided after much complaining to show us the temp control. It turned out to be in a back lobby behind the two rooms - the control was encased in a metal cover, that was screwed closed with two bent screws and had a lock on that also required a key - i.e. If you did not have a key you wouldn’t be able to adjust it.
<br><br>
The owner moaned and groaned as the rep asked him/told him to turn the air con/temp on. However, he turned the temp to cold and not warm or hot. The rep told him to leave the control box open and she herself adjusted the temp to an acceptable level. The owner promised the rep, ourselves and our neighbours that the temp control would be left open for us to adjust ourselves. With this we decided to take a trip to the shops and on our return found that he had closed the box up and locked it and turned the heat/air con off.

This was the first of many things in a catalogue of events, which included: Towels not being changed at all for 5 days; room not being cleaned; toilet being on permanent flush; a smell coming from the bathroom when the shower or water tap was turned on that caused us (including our neighbours) headaches and vomiting; We found the tank for water storage for drinking and washing water for the rooms - it had several fish swimming in it - carp and catfish!
First choice had said that this was a two star plus hotel - and advised when booking that the rooms had kettle; TV with remote control; fridge; pool view; balcony; towels changed each day; rooms cleaned daily; free safety deposit box.
<br>
The things we had were: broken set of drawers couldn’t put our clothes away; a rail (like the type you take to a car boot to hang a small number of clothes on) this fell over when we tried to hang our clothes; no kettle; no remote control - but, we did have a 10" square TV, mounted on a bracket that was hanging off the wall and was very loose/dangerous if it was touched i.e. Could easily have fell off if button was pressed hard!; no fridge; no pool view; although we had a view of the tennis court that was in a very bad state and residential housing for the locals; balcony shared with our neighbours that led to rickety flight of stairs; no clean towels at all during the 5 days that we endured the hell.
<br><br>
Room not cleaned at all during same period; safety deposit back with a lock that was placed into a small safe in a cupboard in reception for the price of USD 2.50 per day; a front door to the apartment that we had much difficulty all of the time opening and never got repaired even though we reported the problem many times; no toilet roll in the room and never got any even when we asked we were told we will send some over - never got any and had to buy our own!; Kettle that had rust inside and turned the water red when water was put in it.
<br><br>
Had the opportunity to watch a 4am raid on a house adjacent to the hotel/our room by armed police and watch a man be arrested, abuse from the owner when we spoke to the rep and told her that enough was enough we arranged with her to give him opportunity to put things right, however, he just paid lip service to the rep and when she had gone he decided to come and shout at us and abuse us; abuse from the owner on checkout about his doors on the room not working properly and wouldn’t give our safety deposit bag back to us until I threatened to phone our rep and the police.
<br><br>
We endured 5 days of living hell at Kissimmee Pines and my partner and I would dread to think of anyone else having to be subjected to this kind of torment/torture/hell/treatment. We paid USD 165 to move to a 3 star plus at Ramada Plaza in Kissimmee and our holiday then began. We both feel robbed of our dream holiday and feel that something should be done so that Kissimmee Pines doesn’t appear as an option in any tour operators brochures.

Thanks for reading this and we hope if you are thinking of visiting Florida you choose wisely the accommodation you will stay in.

The apartments are set back from the I92 in a typical quiet American Suburb with a local amenities just across the road. There is also a small airfield nearby that has a flying school for those interested in taking a trial flight (well recommended).
