Plessas Palace is a beautiful apartment complex and the family who own and run it are all very friendly and welcoming.The rooms have been refurbished and are all very modern.The shower is small but i think you will find this is the case in most greek hotels and apartments.
When it was time to leave the hotel owners where there with a handshake and kiss to say thankyou for staying there.
Memories and lemon tree taveners are both lovely but you will find all taverners in alykanas are nice as ate at different ones and couldnt complain about any just that the ones named are our favourites.
Zeus bar is great with lovely owners and lovely staff.Also cocktails lethal lol.

Lovely hotel and excellent friendly owners. Rooms typical greek, basic but cleaned every day changed sheets and towels every 2 days. Supermarket on hotel site with plenty more available.In a good area about 20 mins to beautiful golden beach. Had a couple of bad nights with barking dogs but was sorted out. Swimming pool is a good size and well looked after. Breakfast and snacks are available all day. Enjoyed our holiday very much.

I booked 2 weeks away wanted to go somewhere special with my boyfriend for our first holiday. Found this hol on the internet & after looking at the hotels website I was amazed & so excited about how gorgeous it looked! Couldn't wait! Upon arrival first impressions were how the pool area looked nice just like on the website & how friendly the staff appeared to be.
This got much worse when we were shown to our room... it was pretty much a box! With 2 single beds, flies splattered on yellow peeling walls & the bathroom was that small you couldn't close the shower doors. The grate on the bathroom floor was all rusty & broken (deff no signs of health & safety there)! & my 1st thought was what the hell might crawl out of it during the night. Before we'd even uppacked I felt like crying at my dissapointment wouldn't mind if I'd got the holiday for cheap as chips but had spent good money on it. Told my bf not to bother unpacking as I was going to speak to the staff & request a move. Spoke to the young woman who met us on arrival she then spoke in Greek to another woman who appeared to be shouting i told her this wasn't what I had seen on their website & that I wanted a change in room & that I had requested a double bed. She finally agreed to move us to the top floor (we were origionally on the 2nd floor only 3 in total) This was a little like a watered down 'honeymoon suite' if you could class it as that. As we were walking up to the room we were greeted by a dead rotting bird just up from our door (lovley!) Better than the origional room but the roof was made of wood so was unbelieveably HOT!! The bathroom was a tad better but shower TINY! You couldnt shut the doors & neither of us are huge ppl! We were charged approx £50 for aircon per week (complete rip off) but it was worth it while we were in a greenhouse!
During our 2 weeks stay we had 'NUMEROUS' visits from the largest grossest Silverfish I have ever seen ... when i say numerous i think we killed about 70?! Maybe more they seemed to have some sort of infestation & there were LOADS of birds on a morning really early all scattering about on our roof. Main prob was the silverfish... they all came out when we were out on an evening & on a night when sleeping came out of every crack & cranny in the room :-S
Overall the area was beautiful really traditional & would deff go back but NOT at this hotel. We met 2 couples who lived near us back home who agreed with the room so we know that it wasn't just us... Would deff reccomend the Jo Pavadosiako restaurant which is my the river on way to Alykes (warm bread with meal & gorgeous food)

We are often asked why we have taken our annual vacation at the Plessas Palace Hotel in Alykanas Zakynthos for the last eight or more years. Even when we travel in another country we often spend a week or two at the resort to recuperate from strenuous and tiring sightseeing.
The village is addicting. Many of the guests are regular visitors who arrive year after year and who have developed a personal relationship with the local inhabitants.
It is not only the hotel with its friendly family feeling. It is not only the good sized rooms which are clean and fully equipped with air conditioning, hair dryer and a kitchenette. This year there was even an oven in which we could bake.
We revel in being able to walk to the beach which is has blue flag status. The water is warm and almost like a bath, with no waves and small fish. One walks into the sea, reaches waist depth and then walks out further and reaches knee depth. Then if one swims further out, can see the sand just under ones feet, at a depth of several metres.

In the evening we normally chose one of the multitude of family run restaurants and enjoy a meal of either succulent lamb or fish, washed down with a house wine.
Of course we always walk up to the local nougat factory (just up the road from the hotel) and purchase honey nougat and sesame seed sweets

The only drawback is the mosquitoes that are prevalent throughout Greece. A bit of repellant is often required in the evening.
No holiday would be complete without the little memorable experiences. Last September we travelled by bus from Athens to the island and back. A pleasant sightseeing trip of the Peloponnese followed by a one hour on the ferry. When we left the island it was cloudy. When we got to Athens it had rained heavily and was like driving through Venice in a car instead of a gondola or vaperetto. At the central bus station a bus pulled up. After a few minutes someone approached the bus pushing a motor cycle. He pushed the motor cycle into the bus and then went to the front of the bus, got in the driver's seat and drove off. We wanted to purchase a ticket only to find that all of the ticket booths were closed with a sign in Greek stuck to the window. We were told that this was a holiday and that all bus travel in Athens was free.

My husband and I travelled to alykanas for our honeymoon last year and stayed in the Plessas Palace. The hotel was clean, rooms basic but have everything that you would need, there are axcellent views over the mountains and the staff are very friendly..
what more could anyone want from a greek holiday.. The bars and tavernas are only a short walk away and busters bar is fantastic for a great night for the whole family..
The reason for my review was that we have just booked again to go to the plessas for this june and we are looking forward to it very much..
Cant wait to get back so if your looking for a relaxing holiday with a great atmosphere, choose this hotel. you wont be disapointed!!!!

We have enjoyed taking our annual holiday at the Plessas Palace Hotel for several years.
This year after travelling around North Italy, Venice, Padua, Lake Garda, and the Dolomites we travelled to Zakinthos to relax and unwind. Last year we concluded a holiday in Eire with a trip to the island.
The hotel has consistently improved. The hotel is clean, the family who own and run the hotel, friendly and helpful.
The rooms are about 3.5 meters by 6 meters. The bathroom measures about 1.8 meters by 1.4 meters. The shower cubicle is a bit on small side, almost the same size as some entire bathrooms in hotels in Sussex Gardens London, where one can shower while sitting on the toilet.
Each room has a private balcony with a table and chairs where one may enjoy the view.
There are private safe boxes in the lobby to leave ones valuables.
The area is quiet and relaxing.
It is conveniently located, just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and shops.
The beach at Alikanas is clean and seems to be safe. One can wade in to thigh depth then there is a sand bar which brings one to knee depth.

40 years ago my wife and I married and lived our first two years together in Cyprus as I served with the Royal Air Force. We loved the island and its people, we loved the food and we loved the weather. No surprise then that we have therefore over the years spent our overseas holidays self-catering in the Greek Isles. We know accommodation is basic, we know there will be niggles of one sort or another, but these never dampen our enjoyment of just being in Greece.
So, to Alykanas and Plessas Palace, where we have now visited a total of 3 times in the past two years. Why? Because the accommodation is one of the cleanest we've experienced, any problems are sorted when reported, cleaner visits daily and replaces the bins (totally essential in the wee room, of course!!) daily. Also, the people running the Plessas are friendly, have a great sense of humour, and are always very courteous. Pigi is always on hand to help out on queries, issues and general support as well as ensuring that arrivees are welcomed and accommodated without delay. Nicos you can't miss - he's lurking in the bar most evenings waiting to pounce on anyone looking for a drink or a game of pool... Joanna runs the catering and does fabulous Greek Salad and if you like soft fried eggs and chips to dip, she's the business!!
Alykanas is quiet, but there are plenty of tavernas to choose from in the evening, and plenty of trips available for those who want a break from the village. Our favourite taverna is the Mantalena, which does excellent Greek dishes, the Moussaka is highly recommended, as well as standard fare for the less adventurous. Fillet Steak is much recommended too.
So don't set your sights too high if this is your first trip to the Greek islands, just get there, relax and enjoy the weather and the food. You'll not get much better self-catering for the price than you'll experience at Plessas and Alykanas.

Total poo, they mugged us off as soon as we got there. Put us in the apartments across the road instead of the hotel which we paid for. The rooms were grotty and dirty, fag butts in the draws, never cleaned the rooms and the towels were like old grey tea towels. They turned our water off from around 11pm till 8am by taps outside the front door which we didn't realise was there until we saw someone come up to our balcony which they would have no reason to at all. When we confronted the owner, the old 'I don't understand' excuse come up which was total rubbish. They stopped turning the water off after this so they blatantly did understand. Breakfast was rubbish, cheese, ham tomato and eggs every day. The little barman (son of owners) was so rude to us, and swore and insulted my partner in greek although he knew I could understand (I think he was trying to show off - not impressed at all). Charged us nearly 40 euros for 4 drinks and then wondered why we didn't go for drinks there any more - we were completely honest. We're not snobs and know its only a bed for the night but this place is gross, worth visiting the place but do not stay here.

Just returned from 1 week stay (self catering) at Plessas Palace. Travelled with husband, daughter (15), niece (16) and son (19). All shared a 2 bedroomed apartment initially but son moved to own studio after 2 nights. Originally booked with Travel Republic (Medhotels) but cancelled booking as it was more cost effective and hastle free to book direct with the hotel. Pigi Plessas (Manager) was extremely helpful in arranging the booking and responded promptly to all email enquiries prior to our arrival.
Was disappointed with the room layout and facilities. Despite the spacious rooms, we had one wardrobe between 5 people and two shallow drawers at the base of the wardrobe, which was totally inadequate and meant us living out of suitcases for the week.
Forget cooking! 2 pans, no kettle and not enough crockery to eat at the same time. Having travelled to Greece before, I was not entirely surprised and had taken plastic bowls and beakers. No tea towels provided either, so remember to take your own.

The hotel describes the room as two bedroomed with separate lounge area. This is very misleading especially if you're needing privacy for older children or expecting a settee of some description. Technically it is one bedroomed, leading into a second room (which has no internal door), containing double bed, and a single bed, kitchen area, dressing table and mirror (the only one in the apt). There is no lounge area but a very small balcony dominated by the air conditioning unit. On a plus note, this room was accessed by a separate external door meaning that late night returns from the kids meant minimal disruption to us 'oldies' in the 'bedroom'.
The bathroom is tiny, as described on other reviews and gloomy as it had no outside window, however, it served its purpose.
The studio my son occupied after 2 nights sharing with the girls was excellent value. Again, very spacious with 3 x single beds, wardrobe, bathroom with window and air conditioning.
Despite the moans, the hotel was clean, staff helpful and friendly. Bar food good value and very handy shop run by the family. Pool area was well kept and beds readily available with cushioned mats to hire at 1 euro, but nobody seemed to pay for them the week we were there.
The resort of Alykanas is a very short walk away. It is nice and compact with enough tavernas, bars and restaurants to suit all ages and our teenagers had no complaints about boredom. That said, its probably not for clubbers but Zante has the resorts of Laganas and Argassi for those wanting livelier night life. The sandy beach and shallow sea make it great for kids.
I would recommend the hotel as excellent value for money, but be mindful of the misleading description of the 2 bed apt, if privacy is paramount for yourselves and travelling companions. It's not luxury, or 5 star, it's typically Greek and you get what you pay for! Book direct for the best deals via the hotel website.
