Good Hotel, Great position, crap food
from berty1966
We stayed at the sun palace for 2 weeks in July this year, and overall it was a decent experience. The hotel is very clean, the staff are friendly, the rooms are very spacious but the food let it down. Don't get me wrong i have had buffet dinners before, but this was really substandard. The choice was the same everyday and as there was virtually no-one eating it, it must have been left overs from the previous day. There was always salad available with cooked meats and cheese for the 3 meals a day and the cheese toasties cooked fresh every afternoon were nice, the pizzas were edible so you could always find a snack. Having said all that try TRICKYS, straight across the main road from the hotel, a good steak with a pint of local beer can be had for around £4.There are literally loads of restaurants within 10 minutes walk in the centre of the resort. I don't think you could get a much better placed hotel in sunny beach, especially for the aquaparks, the buses stop virtually right outside and you are about 10 minutes from one and 5 minutes from the other. The Kuban hotel has always been regarded as the centre of the resort and that is less than 5 minutes walk away. There are always taxis parked right outside the hotel, but unless you are travelling to a different town you wont need them. As for the german 18-30 crew, there was nothing to indicate that was the case, there were a few rowdy ones, English and Scottish as well, but security were always on hand just in case, even though it was never needed. We booked this as a 4 star All Inclusive holiday, I'd have said it was a decent 3 star but i wouldn't recommend AI unless you're going to drink loads of beer / vodka etc. It has a gym, indoor pool, sauna and hair dresser, manicure massage etc. available. Overall, its clean, spacious, friendly, superbly positioned and with good amenities. As it's so cheap to eat out, don't worry about the food !
Brilliant!!!!!!!!

Well, I must admit I was absolutley dreading going to the Sun Palace, I booked over a year ago and as time grew nearer i thought i would look up some reviews, well i must tell everyone, yes there are some germans, I would say in their 20's but they just played in the pool along with everyone else they weren't badly behaved. The pool was clean and it wasn't freezing as everyone states(it might be if you go in March!!!!) The Hotel is spotless, we were staying in the large 4+ rooms just above the bar. The beds are massive, it's a shame to come home to a kingsize!! The staff are friendly enough, their english isn't brilliant, but i must say when you get something to eat, don't then go to the bar and get a drink and leave the plate, they are that set on tidying up, your food will vanish!! Get someone to sit at the table or else you will have to start all over again. The food wasn't brill but it was ok. In the morning there was pancakes, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, toast, beans, sausage, ham, cheese, croissants, rolls, all sorts of things. Dinner, was salads, meats, stews, vegetables, fish, chips, pasta. and near enough the same at night. You help yourself to fruit, icecream, cakes etc all day, tea and coffe and juice etc as well. I MUST SAY THE RED WINE IS STRONG!!!!!!! i found that one out at lunch time on the second day (I THINK!!!!) I also noticed that there is a tip box on the bar, now my husband was told by a german guy that if you drop just a few leva's in the box (only once) your cocktails miraculously get that little bit stronger, so for the sake of a couple of quid, it's worth it!!! The only complaint I had was with the most sour faced girl/woman i have ever met, she works on the non-inclusive bar she has unusual blonde hair, about 5"5 and never, never smiles, she knocked a chair while collecting glasses from our table and spilled them all over the table over my young son, she looked at me , flared her nostrils, and walked away, when she got the the bar, she waited until i gave her some eye contact, smerked, through her head in the air and laughed, well I am normally quite placid, but my husband had to encourage me to leave, and go to another pub.I must admit if i was to sunny beach again i would go self catering as it is so cheap, 30p a pint, £2.00 for a pizza, £1.00 for a huge hotdog in a 8" roll. Cigarettes £1.00 a packet. I hope that whoever reads this has a good a time as we did, and if you met that very unsavory person on the bar, (poke her in the eye for me)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as promised, ihave decided to write my first holiday review, myself and my husband and my parents have holidayed with balkan to bulgaria for the last ten years in high season (glasgow fair) july staying in many hotels 2*,3*,4*and all inclusive one year previous. the bulgarian people have always been very obligiging to us in the past holidays. unfortunatley the food was very repetitive, and the supervisor would not let you pick from the childrens corner, waving her finger at the guests (which were many)that it was for children only).stew was served every day,and the chips looked like they were reheated from one meal time to the next. the tables covers were always stained and only once in a fortnight did i see them being changed. the waitresses were very rude and often picked your plate up or your cup before you were finished. regardless of it being cheap to eat out you have still paid for your meals and would hope to get them surely that is the purpose of going all inclusive. the bar staff and everyone else were very attentive so it was a shame that the food let the hotel down. we have booked with balkan already for next year as we would,nt let that spoil bulgaria for us!.
We had a good time, dont belive everthing you read.

I have just come back from my holiday at the Sun Palace Hotel in sunny beach, after reading the reviews on here and absolutely dreading my holiday before i went -i thought that I’d come back on here and set the record straight !..Seems as though i have been pipped to the post by two others who have also been very recently. I totally agree with the two reviews before this one. The hotel food isn’t the greatest ...but there’s not need to let that spoil your holiday at all. I didn’t feel that the food was cold but there’s a microwave to use if it is. There’s always pizza fish fingers, chips, fresh bbq meat, pasta, soup ice-cream cheese rolls etc... To pick at throughout the day! and for dinner, with the amount of restaurants within a 2 minute walking distance from the hotel and the food being ridiculously cheap it seems boring and a waste to just want to sit and eat dinner in the same place (hotel) every night!! if you haven’t yet booked I’d recommend self catering. There’s a Mc Donald’s and KFC very close which I think are probably the two most expensive paces to eat out in sunny beach!! Watch out if you go to Mc Donald’s because they charge you what they want! Check the prices on the menu board. Theres so much variety when eating out there, I don’t know why anybody would choose expensive american fast food over a cheap tastey slap up meal and lots of beer! The hotel staff were friendly enough, we arrived a the hotel late at night and were each greeted with a lunch bag, consisting of a sandwich, some fruit and a bottle of water which i think was really thoughtful as we had missed our dinner. They always answered any questions we had and were as helpful as possible. The hotel was spotless, very clean, always being cleaned. Maids are very considerate. Pool was nice. Hotel room was nice I stayed in the 3* part and had a TV and fridge and a huge double bed. There’s children’s poolside entertainment for anybody who would like to join in, dancing, ball games, swimming games etc which is really funny to watch. Quite a few familys were there when I went, I’d say that they were in the majority, hardly any pensioners, a few students, not many, (German I think) they just blended in, didn’t disrupt anybody’s holiday. I'd hardly call it an 18-30's resort! Nowhere near. Everybody staying at the hotel was really friendly and sociable. i think that the maximum time i spent queing at the bar was 5mins, and that was behind about 8 people at 11.00pm (end of free drink time when everybody runs to the bar to hoard for the night) with three bar staff! i dont know what everybody was moaning about in thier other reviews. I had a good time, I’d come back again. dont be put off. x
really good apart from food !!

God i was really scared after reading other reviews but the sun palace was absolutley fine. rooms were large with a fridge which i thought was good for all inc, staff friendly and overall really clean. pool was never overly busy and could always get sun bed despite there being loads of germens !! the only down side was the food . the breakfast was edible but the lunch and dinner just looked to manky to even taste even basics like chips n rice that we did try was horrible n the food looked like it was left out for hrs. But to be honest it wasnt really any worse than food i have had in different AI hols and the food is soooo cheap to eat out in resteurants so we didnt really want to eat there any way. in all if u pay a lot of money 4 it and want to eat all ur food there then dnt go but if like us it wasnt much more expensive than other hotel then it worth it for a nice hotel and the breakfasts and drinks !!
Which hotel were these people at???
from LynneErskine
I read the reviews of this hotel before I went, and was dreading every minute of my holiday. We have just returned from the Sun Palace on Sunday 1st July and I have to say the 2 previous reviews are a lot of rubbish!!! We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of Monday morning to be greeted with a packed "lunch" including water, sandwiches and fruit. Our room was immaculate and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The 24 hour poolside bar was open and we enjoyed a few drinks served by a very pleasant and efficient barmaid. Breakfast consisted of cold meat and cheese selection or a cooked breakfast or a choice of cereals. Lunch was again cold meat selection, salads, pasta salads, stews and grilled chicken on the BBQ. Fresh pizzas and toasties made in front of you by, once again, very friendly and efficient staff! I can't understand what these people have to complain about. For our stay of 1 week the service was the same. The hotel foyer, bars, dining room , poolside and toilets were constantly being cleaned. Also no sign of rowdy German students. Yes there were young Germans there but they were simply there to enjoy a holiday like we were. We had a fantastic holiday and wouldn't hesitate to return!
never recommend this place

We booked into sun palace hotel with 15 friends arrived at 11-30 at night and asked where we could get a drink we were told the only bar available was a pay bar no all inclusive bars were open, we had booked in to a 4star hotel what we got was a 1 star German 18-30 holiday hotel, although it does not tell you this in any uk brochures it is in all the German ones, The German students were there in force and behaved like children so much so even the older Germans were complaining, a TV camera crew was with them to make a show for German TV, the management took no action to calm them down and would not listen to anyone who made any sort of compliant the food I would not give to my dogs, most days you could see it was the previous days food warmed up or turned into a stew, you could not get boiling water for the tea, the hotel had a small pool that had glasses constantly broken around it, plenty of cut feet, one all inclusive bar that everyone had to join long queues to get a drink, one so called bar pool that was not open the first week and only served beer, one bar that was open 24 hrs and you had to pay for drinks there, the bar staff served cocktails to children an 8yr old came back with 2 vodka and orange, the entertainment was very poor, children play area was virtually non existent, Our bed sheets were changed once as were our towels, our room was not hoovered once the second week, the only good cleaners were in the entrance lobby constantly mopping the tiled floor making it very slippy. The beach was excellent and there were plenty of sun beds and umbrellas to go round they charged 6lv for the beds and 8lv for brolly, BEWARE when swimming the boats and jet skis come very close to swimmer, 1 lady was killed when hit by a speedboat, they rent out golf buggies to anyone from 10 upward even if the person is drunk, they are driven along the walkways, a man was run over and had his legs smashed by 2 German teenagers who were drunk, on a night there are plenty of young girls selling themselves very cheaply, all are expert pickpockets, watch your bag or it will go. Take plenty of money for food outside the hotel or better still go self catering or b&b, one hotel there stand out above the rest and that’s the Victoria palace if we go again that’s where we will stay it is stunning
Nightmare Holiday

Don't go! Our stay at the Sun Palace was the worst 2 weeks ever and couldn't wait for it to end. We had this booked for 12 months and was really looking forward to it, instead it was like a prison sentence. It was full of german 18-30's running riot, smoking bongs by the pool and falling over drunk. If you are going make sure you take enough money to eat out. Take your own tea bags or coffee and you may be lucky enough to get some hot water. Certainly not a family environment. They also need to invest in some glasses. The last thing you expect is to get a beer in a flimsy plastic cup, However, it was clean and the cleaners were constantly working/
avoid it ay all cost

on arrival hotel looked great we arrived on saturday about 5.30 pm we were given our room keys we in a party of 11, 8 adults and 3 children aged under ten my wife and i were on second floor our daughter her partner and three children were told they didnt have a room available to accomodate them all ,they would have to put nine year old boy in room on his own for a couple of days until they had a suitable room to accomodate them all the room they were given was just like a office it was a large room with beds put in and shower and toilet in there was a large thick electical cable running across the middle of the floor and up the back of the wardrobe and connected to air conditioner which was placed ontop of wardrobe . the other group we were with were given an identical room directly above them .we asked for rooms all togther when we booked but hotel said they couldnt do that we had booked this holiday over 12 months ago so they had plenty of time to accomodate our needs we were given a card with the sitting times for our meal times evening times were between 6pm and 9pm .we went to our rooms and got changed to go down to eat it was 7.15 pm we went to get some food and staff were taking all food away from resturant so we could not get anything to to eat we all went to reception to ask why they were taking it away and the receptionist who had greeted us in good english when we ariived at hotel suddenley couldnt understand english. we went back into resturant to seek explaination along with other guests after ten minutes the hotel manager came in and told us to take a seat and the resturant manager would cook us what ever we wanted he came out to us and said he would be back in a moment .we were sat there for about ten minutes when staff came up to us and said we would have to leave resturant because there was a party on later and they needed tables we tried to explain but they just would not listen to us .we ended up going to macdonalds just around corner on the first night of what was supposed to be an all inclusive holiday .the party was a graduation party for young students it was the third one in hotel that week .and all english guests were really annoyed wiyh this we were just pushed aside everytime .we approached the balkan rep the next morning and complained to him about the rooms and the resturant closing early .we took him to rooms he said they were alright.he did managed to get them moved from rooms after two days. the biggest problems with this hotel is it is always full with ignorant german students who run riot through the all hours of night up to 5.30 in the mornings we complained to managers and reps but nothing was ever done this was not a one off it is everynight .they would not queue up qt the very smll bar they think they have the right to go to front of queue all the time we just had to stand up to them and tell them to get to back like everyone else.the food is really bad it is the same thing everyday but it got to look worse as week went on we ended up going out to eat or just eat salads .the staff are really miserable and ignorant this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed at and all english people were really disgsoted with everything about hotel we would not recommend this hotel to anyone .avoid it at all cost wether you are going 4 star or 3 star you get the same crap food and same miserable staff and same german louts who always get there own way
i loved Sun palace

I loved my stay at the hotel sun palace, the room was excellent and the people who worked there were very friendly. The food was brilliant and the pool was great! If i were to come back to bulgaria I would without a doubt come and stay at sun palace, I loved it!
I was so worried when I read all the reviews after booking this hotel - and due to it being a last minute deal and our first visit to Blugaria I was beside myself by the time I got off the transfer bus as it was a shabby and old coach compared to all the others - but we did... more
