- Advice: Speak to hotel staff regularly - they are not aliens and do not need treated like 2nd class citizens to us. Tidy around the garden shortcuts so that residents can get to and fro without falling over the bumpy ground outside the back of the hotel.
- Good For: Beach
- Board Basis:All Inclusive
- Tour Operator:Thomas Cook

my family and i stayed at the Sun Palace last month - June 2011, the hotel is lovely and really clean, the food is not much cop but no hotels are in bulgaria (We do not cater for people who come to england for holidays why should they cater for us?) however there was always somthing you could eat, i do think there are two parts to this hotel, we were in the 4* part and it was lovely and clean, we saw the same lady cleaning up in the morning and she was still there at midnight working away. The pool was cold, but again all pools are cold when you first get in... we are definatley going there next year to the same hotel. I would recommend it totally, i think some people just want everything for nothing, like i say the food was OK, there was always something to eat.

it is the worst holiday we have ever had. The first night we arrived my husband was bitten by some insect {we thought}. we went to the chemist and got cream to put on in the morning we met the rep who took one look at him and said they would change our room immediatly the hotel manager and a bell boy came to our room and didnt speak any english at all so they didnt change our room. next morning he was a lot worse so we spoke to our rep again she was not happy thet they didnt change our room as promised so she went beserk at them and we finally got another room. later on thet night things got a lot worse my husband was covered from head to toe in these spots went back to chemist and was told to see a doctor so being so late at night we waited till morning and spoke to our rep who contacted the doctor for us the doctor came to the hotel and took one look at him and sent for an ambulance and took him straight to hospital
once there we were told it was FLEA BITES yes FLEA BITES
he was addmitted straight away and hooked up to a drip they were putting anti biotics in through the drip as well, this went on for three days he was then discharged form hospital but had to go back every morning to be put on drip which lasted about an hour each time we were told he had to stay covered up and stay out of the sun by this time we were at our wits end the temp was in the high thirtys and air co in hotel room was a waste of time it didnt work right by this time qwe were into second week of holiday and all we wanted to do was come home. the hotel certainly does not cater for the british tourist and i certainly would not recomend it.this is diffinately not a four star hotel.there is not entertainment apart from kids.

On arriving at the hotel it did not look to bad it soon sinks in a few hours later .
the food is terrible the whole family at some point throughout the holiday was ill.
the staff are miserable with does not give you any incentive to give to there many tip boxs they have sitting around ,
the pool is dirty with mauld on the grates with missing tiles.
the shower in our room was also mauldy around the tiles .
there is a lot of improvement needed to make this hotel a four star as it states i think it should be rated 1 star.
on the whole im so glad to be home

I was a bit scared of going to Bulgaria for the first time, as when we went it had not been heard of. But like normal english bargain hunters, we stumbled on this hotel. It was incredible! The weather was amazing and it was only May (i believe the best weather is July/August).
The hotel was very nice, it was kept clean and offered a lot of space. In each room was a double bed, balcony (with table and chairs), standard tv, double shower and a full lenght mirror!
The hotel staff were incredibly friendly, all speaking fluent English. There was evening entertainment until around 11pm/12am which was always a laugh!
The area was also very good, it is located just off of the main strip of shops, with a 3minute journey to the beach. At the beach there were many water sports including paragliding, or simply pedolos. On the main strip of shops are obviously the usual tourist trash, but also many restuarants, supermarkets and 1 or 2 nightclubs. There is also a waterpark 5 minute bus journey away.
The food in the resort was great! It catered for my vegetarian husband and my friends and I very well.
The hotel it's self had a lot of facilities, an outdoor pool (including baby pool), indoor heated pool, table tennis, gym, sauna, internet cafe, bar and sky sports.
It was an amazing holiday, we do not usually return to holiday resorts, but have visited this hotel 3 times altogether, and have purchased a property in bulgaria about 5 minutes away!
- Advice: Amazing location, amazing room, amazing holiday.

Avoid this hotel like the plague. Food is absolute swill and is always served cold. We had flies in the "beans" and ants crawling through the snacks on occasion. What is left after lunch is served again dinner time usually veal, veal and more veal. Kids selection consists of cold chips, croquettes and powdered mash with nuggets. the menu stays the same daily. Bedding did not fit the beds and no matress protectors (couldn't help wondering what had been left behind). The pool looked clean but was too cold to go in, the children's play area was right at the side of the pool and consisted of a broken slide complete with metal spike sticking out of the side and a swing frame with no swing. the sand in the play area was nothing more than a huge cat litter tray judging by the poo in it. No evening entertainment for the adults and limited kids unless you were prepared to pay. No kids club for under 4s. Plates were either chipped or cracked and tea is served in plastic cups with dirty stains left in them. Glasses if you are lucky enough to find one are just rinsed under the tap before going to the next person. The rep just wasn't interested in our complaint (mind you there were about 7 people in front of me also complaining and she had probably lost the will to live) On the plus side there is a lovely pizza place just up the road and a supermarket which you will need if you stay here. Bulgaria itself is very nice and the beach was great the sea was warmer than the pool. I would return to bulgaria but would go self catering as would the rest of the party I was with

when i first arrived i though the hotel reception was fab however on the way to our room (A3) my mind was rapidly changing, the corridors were filthy, the lift had a broken Mirror. When entering our room i noticed the flooring was lifting and uneven, there was damp on the ceiling, widow ledges, the showerbase had funghus growing from it, tiles were missing from the bathroom walls, our blinds didnt close(no privacy from neighbouring apartments who could see right in!)only 1 light in the apartment worked, plug sockets were hanging off the walls, bedding was dirty, fridge door was hanging off.
When i raised this with the reception they didnt want to know, no rep showed up so couldnt complain this way. raised issued with hotel manager 5 days on the trop still to no avail.
Food in the hotel never changed for 6 days, chicken liver with onion, stewed pork and cold catfish. how apatizing! NOT. on day 7 it did change we had pigs liver instead of chicken! This hotel and its staff are a joke.
I will never return to this hotel and will advise anyone going to it to cancel or change hotels.
This is the worst hotel i have ever been too.
I have complained in writing and included pictures. If anyone wants to see what the hotel really looks like e-mail me and ill sent you the pictures korruk84@yahoo.co.uk

we got back today from a holiday from hell, two weeks at the sun palace in sunny beach bulgaria,it was supposed to be a 4* hotel, the room was quite nice , but when we went down stairs we walked in the dining room the table cloths were dirty the staff were scruffy, before we could sit down we had to shake and turn the table cloths as the staff would not do it/ all they would do is take the plates, we then went to get our meal and 95% of the crockery was chipped or cracked, the plastic cups were fithy, the food was uneatable one of the staff was walking round collecting dishes with a cigerette in his mouth, it got worse as the week went on if you wanted a drink of watered down beer you had to get a glass take it in the toilet wash it because the staff were bone idle never collected any dirty glasses. if you asked for ice bar staff rude said no ice threw drink at you,we went out to eat every night, filled complaint form in rep said she had spoken to manager but still same every day nothing changed, hotel nowhere near 4* 2*at most, the worst hotel we have ever been in in 20 years of going abroad. saved after working 12 months to be ripped off by balkan holidays.it was two weeks of hell anybody thinking of going to sun palace think twice

Me and my partner stayed at the sun palace for one week and had an amazing time.
After reading all the holiday reviews before we went were we were wondering what to expect.
The staff were helpful, the cleaners were in the hotel very early cleanin everywhere and they never stoped cleaning.
The rooms were cleaned everyday fresh towels clean bedding, air conditioned well.
The food was good alot to choose from, drinks were available from 11am but tea, coffee, juice and water were available from breakfast.
The entetainment in the day was good a few activitiesto do but at night the was not much to do so we went out on a night time.
The location of the hotel was great it was near the beach and near the shops and the bars. the beach was very clean, sunbeds are at a small charge for the day.
plenty of resturants for everyone quite cheap.
overall we enjoyed our holiday and would come back again.

I was so worried when I read all the reviews after booking this hotel - and due to it being a last minute deal and our first visit to Blugaria I was beside myself by the time I got off the transfer bus as it was a shabby and old coach compared to all the others - but we did book with Balkan airways through Thomas Cook, and they are a poor nation.
Our first impressions were good as I expected grubby and unhelpful staff from all the reviews read previously. We were welcomed and given the keys to our room on the 3rd floor of the newest part of the hotel. The rooms were big and spacious and had a massive double bed and extra bed for my son. The furniture like the building modern but well used ( could do with a paint and new carpets ) but also clean. Our air con worked a treat and kept the room cool - so cold at night that we had to turn it off and put it back on once up in the morning. We overlooked the pool and were able to see all that was going on throughout our stay. There were however lots of Germans who stole the sun beds early and I had to play their game some days by being up by 8am with toels at the ready to put down - but generally we didnt have any major issues - but is this not par for the course wherever you go these days?
We didn't find the maids arrogant or unhelpful but many were shy not speaking english and some older than we would have working for us in Britain. If you spoke to them regularly we always got what was expected. (come on guys - they dont want you looking down your noses at them - show some respect) Our towels were changed everyday and beds made - my only gripe with the maids was they only gave you 2 toilet rolls and when there are 3 of you adult size and the rolls only half the size we use, then you need more than 2! The maids worked so hard and we found them all pleasant.
The food was basic but it was edible and good - and do we cater for their food types when they visit us? Don't think so - you are visiting their country - which lets be fair is of a poorer state than Britain and they make things to eat on the cheap - yes it was stews and lots of pork and chicken but if you looked first and decided on a meal type then it was possible to have a meal and enjoy. There was always rice, veg, potatoes sometimes and chips everyday for the children. We only ate out 3 times and had one breakfast so 4 times in total, and yes the food outside of the all inclusive deal was much better, but we made best of what we had and enjoyed! Even my 13 yrear old son tried food and he can be fussy - he even tried salami sausage and ate all the meats available so it cant have been that bad. The crockery was however sometimes chipped, but we just picked plates that were not!
We had 2 weeks in the hotel and my only gripe was it was just a bit too close to the 24 hour square where all the young ones party into the small hours - it got a bit crowded and Sunday night - changeover night as most folks only stay a week - was the noisiest though when the doors of our room was closed we hardly heard anything, we didnt wake with any noises either. The square however was dead in the morning and we walked there when it was like this as it got so busy.
Overall, sunny beach is jumping, and can be fun - so different to Spain though not for long I think! A week is long enough as you cover the same ground once you get your bearings and thus have to venture out even though the resort is massive. The beach is good but some areas is covered in seaweed making it harder to swim. The prices are good but not as cheap as everybody tells you, and the food in the restaurants is brilliant and very reasonable. Jupiters is one I would recommend the steaks are fantastic and we had a 3 course meal incl steaks with wine and drinks for £48. (huge portions and cooked exactly as you asked with various sauces of your choice).
The weather was fantastic and often high 30's so take a high factor. I hope that some of you do not write this hotel off - we thought we had booked a 4 star hotel but knowing that Turkeys hotels are not the same as we would rate we only expected 3 star - which is what we got. The facilites make it a 4 star due to there being an indoor pool, Turkish bath, Massage, Sauna and beauty spa where you could have your nails, feet, hair and skin pampered. There was a shop, pharmacy and doctors on site and it was closeby to the main beach areas and shops. Taxi ranks and bus stops were right at the front of the hotel and you could not really complain about the fees on the buses (1 Lev took you into the quaint town of Nessebar and it was lovely).
If I were to return - though it wont be next year due to having booked somewhere else already, I would use this hotel again - though would prefer to be further towards Nessebar as its not so busy at night. A good value for money holiday with the weather and new sights and things to try. Recommend you try before making harsh comments - I feel some people are not being completely fair to the hotel. I have only been back a day and would go back in a minute!
