I have visited Italy from Sestrieres in the North to Palermo in the South, including Sorrento, on a regular basis over the last 50 years, but I cannot find words to praise the Majestic Palace Hotel highly enough. The location was tranquil, the staff courteous and helpful... more

We chose the Hotel Majestic Palace for our honeymoon and I cannot praise the hotel or staff more. We had paid for a superior room which lived up to all our expectations offering us a gorgeous view over the lemon groves and the hills of Sorrento beyond. The staff were a... more

A simple, but comfortable, clean and attractive hotel situated in St Agnello, a town on the outskirts of Sorrento. There are easy train links to both Naples and Sorrento. The Hotel has a small swimming pool to the front and has orange groves to the rear. The restaurant is a... more

Fantastic hotel!!
Me and my 2 friends stayed at the Majestic Palace from 20th July 2007 for 4 days. The hotel itself was charming and typically Italian. Room for 3 was spacious and very clean with a lovely balcony overlooking the street, with sight of the sea and volcano. Whar stood out most for us however, was the outstanding customer service. The reception staff were so friendly and welcoming and the service we received from Roberta was exceptional. We had some trouble with our taxi from the airport, that we booked through the hotel. Roberta arranged for the owner of the taxi company to come and see us to apologise. We were reimbursed for our trip (90 Euros) and given a discount on our return journey to the airport. I also left a bag in a taxi from town which had my camera in it. Roberta made several calls to taxi ranks and managed to track down my bag with very little information. I have travelled the world quite extensively and have not experienced such care and professionalism. Nothing was too much trouble for Roberta. This was my second visit to Sorrento, first was also good, stayed in the Caravel opposite, but Roberta's service and that of her colleagues really made this one special. St Agnello is a great location, very smart and a good place to stay to explore the area. Positano was outstanding, Capri very good and Pompei hot!
Magic Majestic Palace
My wife and i stayed at Majestic Palace for a week, our room was very good, clean, balcony looked on to an lemon grove. food in hotel was very good, it was a 15 min walk into Sorrento, a good way to walk off those extra pounds at the dinner table. Staff were very good, very helpful Would go back to this hotel anytime
Clean but not perfect
Transfer between 1 & 2 Hours. They always keep the restaurant open for new arrivals. Arrived to find our room was underground with a terrace (very dissapointed) Room was large and clean. Staff hot and cold (depended on who you got) Eg Barman Jack brilliant, Restaurant manager was very rude on occasions. All drinks if half board are paid for at the end of your stay, we had extra things on our bill (as did friends we made) so keep an eye on that! Location is dissapointing at times the courtesy bus doesnt run all day during the week so not as flexible as you would like this to be - this meant many walks into sorrento. These walks into sorrento are not pleasant due to many dogs business on pavements! Bus and Train travel is frequent but busy. On the whole tho the hotel was ok but if you can stretch your budget a little bit you could do a whole lot better.
excellent; first class hotel
We chose this hotel on the basis of the previous reviews and were not disappointed. This area of St agnello has an atmosphere which Sorrento does not, and it is indeed a great place to stay. The staff are excellent. Some bits of information not mentioned before (1) buses from airport to sorrento cost E7 per head. Ask the driver and he will drop you at St Agnello station you can walk from there: 10 mins.(2) Buses BACK to airport can only be reliably boarded from the rail station in Sorrento , BUT BUT BUT the travel time back is not the official one hour, it's 2.5 hours. I checked with the driver and this is typical; sheer weight of traffic. Your best bet is of course to get transfers thrown in with the holiday ! Best day out: without a doubt, Herculaneum ( better than Pompeii, though smaller) E11 per person. if you have kids, take their passports and they can go for E5 - this includes full time students upto age 24. take yours too if you want to hire an audio guide, though we felt the live ones were better. Have fun.
The nicest hotel I've ever been to!
On arrival from a 1hour 15 minute transfer from the airport, we were starving, tired and a bit grumpy. But as soon as we walked into the reception we were greeted very nicely by the receptionist, Giancarlo I think his name was. Because of the late transfer, we missed our dinner at the hotel, but they actually kept the dining room open just so they could serve us some food they had kept for us. This made us feel very welcome and the waiters were top notch. You can't get better waiters. All the waiters were so good and the range of food that we had a choice of on our two week stay was high quality food. Not all the food was for us but people who like fish will love it. The room itself was bigger than I thought and it was so clean. We never really noticed the cleaners as they were so quick and professional. Our balcony wasn't the best as we had two trees right in front of it but we weren't bothered as we always used the sun terraces. The view on the top floor terrace is beautiful. We usually just sat up there as no one hardly ever came up. The location was great. It was away from the hustle bustle of Sorrento. The thing that slightly got on our nerves was the church bells. It always seemed to wake us up at about 7.00am. Another good thing was the bar. It was so peaceful and Jack the barman and his accomplice Gianmario were a right laugh. So in all its a great hotel. And its the only place I've been to abroad where I didn't want to leave. So get yourself to this hotel. You won't be disappointed.
A great place to stay!
We have just returned from a two week holiday staying at the Majestic Palace Hotel. The hotel is great, very clean, the staff are efficient and friendly and the rooms are spacious with plenty of storage space. We had a fourth floor room with views of Versuvius from the balcony, the maid comes in daily and we always had fresh towels, the bedding was changed about every 4th day. Several times during the two weeks our beds were turned down at night and sweeties put on the pillows. The only downside to the rooms is they are a little noisy, this is down to the construction of the hotel and not so bad that it spoilt our stay. The restaurant was excellent with plenty of choice for breakfast and several choices for each course at the evening meal. We never had the same food twice on the menu in two weeks and even on gala night the menu's were different. We ate out twice just for a change of scenery but the food was good enough to eat there every night. Beware anyone who only likes good old British grub because you will find the food here good old Italian grub!! For anyone who likes fish you will have died and gone to heaven as there is a different choice every night. The pool is clean and we never had a problem getting a sunbed. It wasn't particularly child friendly as it was quite deep. We went on lots of trips, Pompeii, Amalfi Drive, Montecassino, Capri etc. We did everything ourselves by train or bus, it was easy and saved us lots of money, the only arranged trip we went on was Montecassino as it was impossible to get to the monastry on public transport. A trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum cost 55 euro's which did not include your entry fees! We did Pompeii for 3.50 euro's each return and the entry was free on the day because it was 4th July otherwise it's 11 euro's each. Capri is very beautiful but it was also very commercial, it was so busy and there are so many people that it is almost impossible to enjoy it. Sorrento is a 20 - 30 min walk but the trains and buses are easy and cheap. It is bustling and busy all the time, but a nice place to walk round. Go to the Foreigners club and sit looking out to sea with a glass of wine or beer. Bliss!! Stay away from Chaplin's Irish bar, an elderly lady welcomes you in and tells you what a beautiful couple you are then you will find yourself charged 8 euro's for a small glass of wine (local) and half a pint of beer!! Just over a fiver! Never again! The Davide Gelataria sells the most gorgeous ice cream with over 40 flavours, they make it through the night and it is fresh everyday. We left our camera there on our last night and the staff put it on one side, we got it back through their honesty and they wouldn't take any money as a reward. The wine bar just off the square in Sant Agnello is a lively place with good music and the biggest selection of wines I've ever seen. Overall I would highly recommend it as there was plenty to do and you could be as lively or as relaxed as you wanted. Naples airport was the only down side, coming home was a nightmare as we were shunted from one queue to another for 3 hours! Let the waiters run it! To Susan and Jenny from Dublin, if you read this we have booked the hotel in Venice for November. It was lovely to meet you, you are lovely girls!!
A hidden gem
Just returned from Sorrento and this hotel truly made our holiday even more memorable. It is a quality hotel with spacious rooms and the grandeur expected of a four star hotel. The food and service in the restaurant were excellent and the Gala Dinner on the last night was fantastic. The location is best described as quiet but within easy access of public transport via the bus or train.Just wish the nearby church bells didn't strike on the quarter hour, especially during the night. The hotel does run a courtesy bus which runs every day.
A warm Italian welcome at the Majestic Palace
After a long transfer from Naples, it was nice to be greeted by a warm friendly smile and swift, professional service from Roberta on reception. The lobby was both welcoming and charmingly 'Italianesque'. The second storey hallway was a little 'well travelled', but the room itself (standard) was everything we could have hoped for. Light, airey and beautifully maintained. It let out onto our own balcony which showed a view of the bay of Naples to the left, and Saint Agnello's Church to the right. All of the staff, from the Manager to 'Jack' the barman and the hotel gardener exuded the same willingness to both please their guests and represent their hotel to the best of their ability. The maid service was as discrete as it was impeccable. After a day spent in the busy cosmopolitan whirl of Sorrento, the pool area was a wonderful oasis of peace and tranquility in the evenings. The hotel's own Mercedes courtesy bus was an unexpected bonus, always punctual, always meticulously well driven. (try the local orange buses for comparison!). Niggles: The excellent restaurant staff were beyond reproach, but the food their served was sometimes a bit 'ordinary' , though always edible. Bar prices were rather expensive, but no more so than other local bars. I would readily advise any traveller visiting the Sorrento area to make the lovely Hotel Majestic their base.
Haven Of Calm
As per previous reviews, Sorrento and St Agnello can be pretty hectic and expensive places. Beware of the Vespas and the hidden extras! However, staying half board at the Majestic Palace meant that we still had a relaxing stay. The food was excellent, filling and Italian - waiter service except for one night so no queuing and pushing as with the usual buffet style. We were asked to share a table with another couple. At first we and they were a bit dubious about this arrangement, having come away for "couply" holidays but we actually had a real laugh as well as sharing holiday tips and hope to stay in touch. We were at the back of the hotel, overlooking an orange grove so perfect for sun soaked Siestas. On the last day we also discovered the roof terrace (on floor 5) - breathtaking views of the Peninsula. Enjoy!
Excellent Hotel !
Just returned from a two week break at this hotel - and loved it ! A charming hotel that boasts excellent friendly staff and exceptional food - particulary for the evening meals. The hotel is in a good location, with an excellent pool area which is clean & tidy. We recommend that the hotel may be a tad unsuitable for Children as the pool is pretty deep - even in the shallow end and there is not much to keep them enteretained As with much of Sorrento - beware of the Church bells which chime every 15 mins 24hrs a day. Those that are light sleepers may want to take earplugs - but this did not detract from our enjoyment of the hotel. Recommeded !
