The hotel is clean and the staff are mainly friendly (with one exception) the food is very average (evening) the lunch time menu is good but you have to pay for this. Our room was quite small but the view was good (sea view). The courtesy bus runs 5/6 times a day but... more

We had never been to Italy before so this was a real treat. We arrived at the hotel late at night after a very scarey ride in a taxi from Sorrento (as this was where we were dropped off and told to wait for our transport to the hotel). The staff were very freindly and... more

Very pleasant Hotel with great views and very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. The food was nothing special but ok and plenty of it. I would certainly consider staying there if I went to Sorrento again. My only criticism is the frequency of the courtesy bus. I feel it... more

We only booked our holiday to Sorrento one week before we went, so it was a real last minute thing and having never been on a package holiday and never having been to Italy before we did not know quite what to expect, but I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. ... more

Great Hotel
A really nice hotel, beautiful location. In the hills but free shuttle bus takes you to Sorrento very easily. Sorrento is a great town and is a good base to visit the Amalfi coast (5 Euro's for a day travel pass on the local bus service which stops just outside the hotel), Capri (about 20-25 Euro's on the ferry from the local port), and Pompeii is only a short train ride away. Room and bathroom were spotless and towels and bedding were replaced every day. The pool was also well maintained. A lovely place to stay and we would recommend it!
Great views
I had stayed at La Vue D'or for 3 nights in July. I had used Sorrento as a base to explore Pompeii, Capri, Positano, Amalfi. I had chosen La Vue D'or over other hotels in Sorrento because of the value for money and views. The plus points... Located in the hills above Sorrento so it is cooling and quiet at night. Good views of Sorrento and the bay. SITA bus stops almost in front of the hotel. Had a good package offer from the hotel website. Hotel provides free shuttle bus to/from Sorrento town. Downside...the hotel is about 30 minutes from the Circumvesuviana train station by SITA bus. We had room 453 which was at the top floor and had a nice balcony. The only problem is that the balcony ledge is connected to other rooms so it is possible for someone to climb into your room if you leave the sliding doors unlocked! The room and ensuite was clean. The dinner menu selection is not extensive so you are better off having dinner in town and catching the shuttle bus back to the hotel. Breakfast was adequate with bread, croissants, ham, cheese, fruit. The coffee was bad though. Overall, it was a good experience.
Fabulous hotel
We have just spent a week at La Vue D'Or and highly recommend this hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable and had a balcony with fabulous views of Sorrento and the pool area was a great place to spend the day relaxing in the sun. The hotel was a 15 minute drive from Sorrento city centre and there was a free bus service to and from the hotel which ran regularly. The staff were very helpful and kind and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced and the views of Vesuvius from the restaurant were spectacular. All in all, a great hotel.
Great experience
First things first: the views from this hotel are amazing! It is located up a hill, on a beautiful drive out of the center of Sorrento. If you have a car, it's not a problem at all, but if you don't... it may be a little out of the way. I think the hotel offers shuttle buses to/ from Sorrento, a nice option. Ah! Parking is free for guests (always a plus!). The staff wasn't super nice but there was one gentleman in the front desk who made up for everyone else. He was especially nice and helpful; offering restaurant recommendations, nice beach spots, etc. The rooms were great; lots of room, spacious bathrooms, everything very very clean. We highly recommend the superior rooms (they have a great little balcony and that amazing sea view!) A last little annoying aspect was that guests had to pay a fee for pool towels. Overall, great experience and definitely recommendable.
Home from Home
Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks June23/July 06 2007. Spectacular views from balcony over Sorrento, Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Family run hotel and staff can't do enough for you and very helpful at all times, waiters and maid service excellent. The room was small but adequate with a great balcony and spotless clean. The whole hotel is immaculately clean and the the pool area fantastic. Food was great and plentiful. Lunches alos available at reasonable prices. Free courtesy bus which was very punctual and only 10/15 minutes to town. Had a wonderful stay and will definately be returning next year.
Lovely. quiet, hotel with magnificant views of the bay
Wonderful 3* Hotel in the hills overlooking the bay of naples. What fantastic views can be found here. Nice and quiet away from the traffic of Sorrento, but with the good local bus services and the courtesy hotel bus it is easy access in to Sorrento. Hotel staff were always very friendly and helpful. Great meals and waiter service made it special. Pool area for a relax after a busy day touring around all the many places worth seeing. Sunbeds were available but will need to take your own beach towels as not provided. Bar snacks available during the lunchtime period which were very good. Rooms were adequate but nothing great. Beds comfortable, with television and phone. I believe all rooms have a balacony and great views. Hotel appears to be built into the rock. Enjoyed late at night sitting on the balcony watching the views and lights twinkling! Lovely. Bathroom ok but nothing special, towels very thin but believe this is common for the area. All in all a great stay especially for the money paid and would stay there again. Main hotel areas were nice too. Do not stay here is you want lots of entertainment as only had on one organ player who sang one night. Who needs this anyway when can have a lovely drink on the balcony with awesome views. Enjoy!!
A Gem of a Hotel
This hotel was modernised in 2006 so some of the reviews do not show correct photographs. We stayed in May 2007 and were pleasantly surprised when we entered the reception area. We liked the location which is 6.5 kilometres uphill from Sorrento which makes the views spectacular. You can walk down to Sorrento or up to St. Agata by paths adjacent to hotel (if you are fit)! The hotel courtesy bus is free and very prompt. Staff are friendly and the hotel is imaculately clean. Food was reasonable - if you don't like what is on menu they will provide alternatives. Local wine in hotel was 9 euros for 75cl bottle. Highly recommended!!!
Get real!
Hotel immaculately clean; staff can't do enough for you; food simple but good quality ingredients with Italian choice every evening; towels subject of previous complaints are old-fashioned linen ones which polish you dry - if people are not prepared to accept the different way things are done abroad then they should stay at home!! Free shuttle bus brilliant & frequent enough even for those, like us, who were out & about all the time - if you must get back to the hotel during siesta the perfectly adequate & cheap public buses run past regularly. Hotel enjoys beautiful views, about 15 minutes drive downhill to Sorrento, but this is no bad thing. Area is lovely with grand views, history, culture, smashing boat trips, interesting shops and crafts and friendly locals who are very helpful with queries on how easiest/cheapest to get around.
Pleasant but not fantastic hotel
My husband and I booked this holiday at the last minute, and on the cheap. I was pleasantly surprised, the hotel was nice enough, and clean ( always a good thing). I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone who a bit immobile as there are quite steep steps to rooms, restaurant etc., and it is built into a hillside. There is nothing much around, and it's 5-10mins drive into Sorrento, but if you are happy sitting around the pool, this area of the hotel is lovely, and the view is stunning, though beware the pool is tucked back a bit so it doesn't get enough sun to get warm. The hotel has it's own minibus to take you down into Sorrento and leaves a few times a day, and has pick up times from Sorrento all for FREE! We were half board, but I have to say the food at the hotel is disappointing; very little Italian food and the rest is not great, if you have the option eat in Sorrento there are some yummy restaurants. Overall don't let me put you off going there as we enjoyed the holiday, just don't expect to be amazed.
Out Of Town Splendour
Booked this hotel based partly on past Review comments + price. Slightly apprehensive prior to start of holiday but totally unfounded. This is a great place to stay for the price. Location and views superb. Interior decor and facilities first class and can understand why as it looks/feels like and has definitely been recently refurbished. Reception, Lounge, Pool and sun terrace area excellent. We stayed in Room on 3rd Flr (351) but would recomend 1st or 2nd Flr rooms 2/354 ish for best views and overlooking the Pool. Don't listen to any past stories about problems with Shuttle Bus service, this is excellent and very reliable; subject to a minor caveat if you want to get back to Hotel in the middle of the day. Here you have to result to SETA local bus service ( ideally from the Train Station) which are frequent but generally frustrating to find the right Bus and can often be full of school kids. Other alternative if your feeling flush is Taxi for about 25E. Hotel meals great again for the money, you could pig yourself on Continental style breakfasts and even order something resembling English if you wanted to pay extra. The evening meals are reasonable quality for 3/4 courses @ 25E pp. Choice is slightly limiting from 3 choices per course but considering you would pay min 30E + per person for the same in Sorento its not bad. My advice would be to mix and match between Hotel and town. Hotel drinks prices more than reasonable compared to Sorrento costs. Avoid the Restaurant down the road which has been included in past Reviews, this is poorly used and from the Menu looks over-priced. Excepting some very minor issues picked up in past reviews (eg) quality of towels, by very picky reviewers I would recomend this Hotel and would certainly return if I wanted to do more of this Coast.
