We had never been to Italy before so this was a real treat. We arrived at the hotel late at night after a very scarey ride in a taxi from Sorrento (as this was where we were dropped off and told to wait for our transport to the hotel). The staff were very freindly and offered to make us sandwiches as the restaraunt was closed. The next morning at breakfast we soon realised that perhaps we might have been the only English couple there as there seemed to be a great amount of Germans. As the week went on other English couples arrived but we were still out numbered by the Germans. Apart from that I could'nt fault it. The room we were given the first night was okay but small and no sea veiw. We met up with the Rep the next afternoon and she arranged for us to move to the other side of the Hotel with sea and Volcano veiw(we did have to pay a small amount extra but it was worth it) It was quite funny because as soon as we were shown the room and accepted we had to hurry and move our things in and out of the other room before another bus load of Germans arrived, we think it was met for someone in their party. The Hotel was very clean, the food a little basic but tasty and the staff were very nice. They told us about the walk just above the Hotel into the next village which was very interesting and also had a couple of quiet little bars. We would definatley go there again. Sorrento is a beautiful place.

Very pleasant Hotel with great views and very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. The food was nothing special but ok and plenty of it. I would certainly consider staying there if I went to Sorrento again.
My only criticism is the frequency of the courtesy bus. I feel it should have run more than six times daily. There were plenty of excursions to go on but when we went to Pompeii on a half day we were picked up at the Hotel in the morning and then dropped in Sorrento at 12.30 pm and the next courtesy bus was 5.30 pm.
The tours are excellent however I would recommend giving the day trip to Rome a miss - it's too much for one day. Sorrento is a lovely but very busy town with many places to get a nice meal or drink. Great shopping.

Well where do I start, being a solo traveller, we do end up with the short straw, to try and cut a very long storey short.
Arrived at hotel...no welcome pack. Taken to room...downstairs, in foyer, behind bar, next to public toilets. Number on door...64 written in biro on scrap of paper, stuck on with blue tac! My view of gold (hotel name)....brick wall looking through iron bars
Welcome meeting...again no welcome pack! Relaxing holiday...not...tears all night couldn’t sleep, noise from foyer, public TV, and tours meeting outside my door!!
Kept getting asked if I was a staff member...as I kept going (to my room) behind bar!! Lets just say...had I broken the law, I would have had a similar room for free!
Holiday was dreadful, got no help, or compensation, after numerous letters, gave up!
Will never book with Thomson again and am very careful now about booking single rooms!

We only booked our holiday to Sorrento one week before we went, so it was a real last minute thing and having never been on a package holiday and never having been to Italy before we did not know quite what to expect, but I have to say we were pleasantly surprised.
Although there were various excursions available (A different one everyday, Pompei, Vesuvius, Capri, Rome weekend visit etc) we did not indulge as we really just wanted to relax for the week we were there. We were very happy with the accommodation, our hotel staff were very friendly and helped alot with improving my Italian which was non-existent before we went.
The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from Sorrento and is set up in the surrounding hills, the views from the pool area and sun terrace are simply amazing. It is worth paying the extra for a sea view room, we didn’t and wished we had. The hotel has a mix of clients but mostly couples, which makes for a nice relaxing place were you can either make friends or keep yourself to yourself. Unless your feeling very brave, don’t bother hiring a car or scooter, the Italian driving, especially in the narrow hilly roads around Sorrento is enough to frighten anyone.
The hotel lays on a free courtesy bus which goes back and forth from Sorrento to the hotel around six times a day and this is very handy. You can walk down to Sorrento which we did, not down the road but via a very beautiful shortcut down through olive & lemon groves, this will take around 45 minutes and you probably won’t see another person until you get down to the town, the views are well the walk down but one thing I would say is that it’s a good idea to time it so that you can catch the courtesy bus back up, we didn’t and it’s pretty steep walking all the way back.
The food at the hotel was ok, there was certainly plenty of it, but there was a lack of fresh fruit (The fresh fruit on the menu didn’t seem very fresh to me and it seems the only fruit they could get were nectarines) although you can buy any fruit you might want in Sorrento including giant watermelon for 50 cents! We ate out a couple of nights while we were there and the food was superb and not too expensive either. The town is lovely just to walk around of an evening, very safe but very busy little ally’s packed with shops bars and street side restaurants, the shops seem to be open until around ten and the bars will stay open as long as your in them, we had several offers to stay much later and get a lift back to the hotel with the bar owners.
The only real issue we had with the hotel was with regard to a courtesy room on our leaving day, you have to check out of your room at 10am (Seemed very early to me) we then had to wait until 3pm to be picked up by the tour operator, at first I was told there may not be a courtesy room available for showering etc. But after a bit more pestering we were told there would be a courtesy room available from 1.30pm which was great but there were eight people wanting to use it at the same time so it was pretty rushed. This though is the only real complaint we had.
All in all we had a fantastic time and if we ever went back to Sorrento we would happily stay at the same hotel. It is close enough to the town but far enough away to make a very restful holiday.

The hotel is clean and the staff are mainly friendly (with one exception) the food is very average (evening) the lunch time menu is good but you have to pay for this. Our room was quite small but the view was good (sea view). The courtesy bus runs 5/6 times a day but there is quite a long gap at times which makes it difficult to get into Sorrento, or if in Sorrento you are a bit stranded - you can walk down which is a pleasant walk, but walking up is hard work unless you are an athlete. The taxi's are very very expensive so not an option 40 - 50 Euros. Please note that the hotel is quite a way out of Sorrento about 8 kilometres, it may say 3k in the brochure but that would be if you shot an arrow straight off a bow. The nearest town which we were told was quiet was infact very busy and not at all like the many beautiful villages and towns dotted around italy in the hills so we were quite disappointed (Santa Agata) Sorrento is a very busy bustling place not very relaxing at all so would not recommend a long stay unless you like your holidays fast paced and busy (but not much night life for younger people). I visited sorrento as a child in 1972 and it has changed quite a lot. Lots of Brits and Scottish I was amazed at the fact the Italians all spoke English which was a disappointment as I wanted to practise my Italian more. Lots of shopping if you like that sort of thing quite a bit of tack "sexy" ties springs to mind! A world heritage site it has to be the choice of those interested in Pompei, Herculaneum etc. We were unlucky as the weather was bad, luckily we survived our two weeks in Sorrento a place I would not visit again.
