Lovely 2 night stay
from jredfern
Stayed for two nights with my Husband when we went to see a Brian Ferry concert at the nearby Birmingham Symphony Hall. Excellent Location we walked along the renovated canal side into the Bullring which only took about 20mins. Ate both nights at the Hotel, Excellent Food and no problem for the chef to tweek the dishes to accomodate my dairy allergy, breakfast on the Fri morning was good with the hot food cooked to order and a good buffet selection but the Sat morning breakfast was all buffet and the hot food suffered by being cooked in advance. Room large with kingsize bed, very clean even though the decor was a bit tired. Staff all very helpful and friendly. We would stay again even thouigh I dont like to be charged for parking at Hotels as I think this should be included.
Very good hotel
from Travel_Reviewer-7
Stayed at the Marriott Hotel for one night with my girlfriend and it was exceptional. Room was immaculate on arrival and a very good size. Location is good - not right on Broad Street, but this is an advantage as it means it's quieter at night. Staff were very friendly and helpful providing maps and giving directions. Leisure facilities inlcuding swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi were very good and relaxing, expecially as there was never more than about 4 or 5 other people there at one time. Breakfast was also extremely good. Very attentive and polite service. Full range of cooked options and a well stocked, fresh looking cold buffet option too. My only negative comment would be that hotel car parking should be free to residents, but at £9 for 24hrs this was cheaper than any of the local car parks. I would highly reccommend this hotel for both leisure and business.
Excellent hotel
from megrabbit
My husband and I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed our stay. We had a large room with a very nice bathroom. All the usual facilities were available for this class of hotel. My only complaint would be that the bedside lights are so dull you cannot read by them alone. The location is great, close to the centre but far enough away that there was no noise. A large cinema complex is just across the road. Staff were mixed. We were not made to feel very welcome when we arrived as desk staff were very aloof and unfriendly. We did however experience much more friendly staff the next day, in the bar at night and in the restaurant in the morning. Overall a very good stay which we would be pleased to repeat.
nice hotel
from bonsyde
I stayed at the Marriott for 3 nights, my overall stay at the hotel was very good, the hotel and the room was very nice, the staff were also pleasent. Although i did like this hotel, i feel for the same amount of money you get so much better, the hotel was pretty standard to any large corperate hotel. The bathroom was very good, i took less than 2 minutes to fill the bath, the shower was so easy to use and stayed at the temp required. the only bad points i experenced were:- i had to clean the tea cups before i could use them, they had been missed by the maid, this was no trouble though, these things happen. the room next door had room service on our first night, the tray with left over food was left outside there room for 2 days. i payed cash for my room, so had a little trouble getting to watch a movie, reception wanted £50 for the privalge, this i ended up getting for £7.50, that was pretty confussing, and after paying a visit to reception and going back to my room, the movie was not the one advertised so i didnt watch it anyway. What i suggest is using a credit card to make life easy. be awear that you have to pay £9.00 per day to park at this hotel, lots of hotels in the city dont charge you. overall a nice stay, not really value for money, but a fantastic location if your visiting the city.
Friendly and professional
from Vicar
Friendly and professional staff - a rare combination not seen in other Birmingham hotels. We came here because Hyatt appeared to have priced itself out of the market. For one-third of the Hyatt price we had a comfortable room, though the bed was too soft. Excellent cooked breakfast. Hotel seemed surprisingly quiet but the car park was very full so presumably the staff were being efficient as it was not necessary to wait for check-in, check-out, or service.
Top quality experience, I will be repeating!

After trying many other hotels in Birmingham I decided to splash out and stay at the Marriott. Normally I only stay at Marriotts for holidays when I am with my husband. I have to say reading the reviews was helpful, although the one poor one given - I have to ask did they stay at the same hotel I'm staying in!! I have not been disappointed and have changed my future Birmingham stays to this hotel, even requesting the same room if possible. As a lone female business traveller I need to feel secure, have access to safe parking and good food on site + all the little extras that make staying away from home a hassle/stress free experience. The super king size bed with high quality bedding was a dream to sleep in. The bathroom was more than adequate (in fact larger than some rooms I have stayed in before!) and boasted a great range of good quality toiletries, including spare tooth brush and mouthwash. There was also a trouser press, small safe, CD player, iron & ironing board, hairdryer and more than 3 coathangers in the wardrobe. I ate in the restaurant both nights and was surprised by the varied menu (although somewhat heavy on fish choices), both meals were excellent and served promptly and hot. I ordered a good bottle of wine and they dutifully saved it for my second night with no problems. Staff were attentive but not in your face. Breakfast was just as good with a wide range of choices and pastry selection was impressive along with freshly sqeezed OJ and good quality bacon. If I had to be picky, I would have liked more lighting options and more plugs. To explain - I am glad I travel with an extension lead with extra plug sockets as I need to recharge my mobile, my iPod, my iPaq and also use my laptop, this would not have been possible without my extra lead. Also there was a dark area around the sofa so if you wanted to watch TV unless you had the overhead light on it was quite atmospheric (dark!!) also over the desk the 2 wall lights worked in conjunction with the main light and were not independent - other than that no problems. Have booked to stay again.
Still one of the best in Brimingham, but...

I stayed at this hotel twice; first with a family and more recently on business. The hotel is clean and well maintained. Although it is not centrally located, I used to consider that it was worth staying at this hotel. The hotel has excellent restaurants. When I stayed over a weekend with my wife and two small kids, the staff was so professional. They made every effort to accomodate children and communivcation among the staff was excellent. The concierge was so kind from check-in to check-out including arrangements for an excursion to Cadbury World and a clear direction to go to nearby TESCO to buy baby food and nappies. When I stayed there on business last year, the quarity of the staff remained the same. It is still one of the best hotels in Birmingham. However, I couldn't help noticing severe personnel shortage in the hotel which caused a long wait at check-in/out, room services and restaurants. I believe that I have to think twice before I stay there again.
A very good stay
from Discoinferno
We stayed at the Marriott for one night prior to going to the British GP. We had an executive double, which was an excellent corner room with a massive bed. The bathroom was a good size as well, with a nice range of toiletries. The hotel itself is very nice and in a location just a few minutes away from the bars and entertainment on Broad Street. The staff were very good and helpful, answering a few specific questions that we had. Breakfast at the restaurant was plentiful, although for a buffet it was unusual to have to order any cooked items. All in all we enjoyed our stay and were impressed with the hotel.
Good for business stays, rooms vary!
from mazza_uk
This is a pleasant well-appointed hotel near the Five Ways roundabout in Birmingham, about 10-15 mins walk from the centre of town. The rooms vary in size considerably from slightly cramped to incredibly spacious. Beds are comfortable and large.. Unfortuntely, you'll never get very hot water out of the shower, despite the very hot water coming out of the taps.. Other facilities include the gym (small and cramped), pool (small) and car park (very few spaces). The bar is good and the staff are very polite and attentive. The restaurant can be a little hit and miss. To get a decent breakfast, you really need to catch the attention of the restuarant staff and wait to be seated, as you're likely to be ignored if you don't. They do serve porridge but it's not on the menu, so ask if you want it ;) Don't expect to get your hot breakfast delivered quickly.. the buffet selection is decent while you wait!
Comfortable hotel, shame about the restarant
from CJ&SA
We stayed at The Marriott in February and the rooms were comfortable, if a little chilly. (A plug-in radiator was available and we needed it). The room was nicely furnished, clean and the bed was very comforatble. The bathroom was also super and the bath enormous. The disappointment was the restaurant. At dinner the steaks, ordered as medium rare were well done. When we complained to the waitress she said she would tell the chef but nothing more was heard. At breakfast the waitress asked us whether we would like full English, We said yes, thinking we would be brought a menu. No menu was, however, produced so we asked for one. There was considerable choice on the menu (although sadly no porridge or kippers). No-one approached us to take an order and we realised that the waitress had gone off to order a full English. We had to get up to attract her attention and she could not understand the problem. Even the full English offers a choice of egg but even this was not going to be offered by the waitress. We did get the breakfast we asked for and it was nearly right! We noticed that all the other guests were also treated the same way. No-one was offered the menu. I think this is really a problem of training. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We would stay at this hotel again but eat elsewhere.

Stayed here for a weekend break (using clubcard vouchers), and can't fault it at all! We wanted a city break for shopping during the day (dragging the partner into galleries and museums) and to hit the bars and clubs in the evening. The hotel is at one end of Broad... more
