I have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and have always been happy but this time was a different story. I won’t waffle on & on but we had a nightmare with the aircon in our room, the room was roasting hot and the aircon even on full blast with cold air was... more

After walking for ages trying to find a room for the night for my 15yr daughter and myself I was really impressed with the reception staff and room. They only had a disabled room but the only differences were the sink being lower and safety cord and switches being lower.... more

Not a bad hotel
My partner and I stayed in the City Inn a fortnight ago and although it was well located and first impressions were good (the reception was bright and welcoming and the staff were friendly), The rooms were very standard - much like every other business orientated hotel and there was no bath. We did not have an evening meal so can not comment on the restauraunt but breakfast was fine. A buffet was provided rather than cook to order.
Great night out
I recently took my wife out for the night in Birmingham and to take a break from the norm we decided to stop at a hotel rather than get a taxi home. As we were going out round brindley place we decided to stop at the city inn. And i've got to say it was great service from start to finish. As we checked in a very welcoming and professional receptionist gave us our room number and key. Our room was beautiful and had every thing we needed. We went out for something to eat and quick drink and decided to go back to the hotel for a night cap. The bar area was excellent and had I seen before I would have probably stayed there all night. All in all this was a really nice stay and I would recommend to anyone.
Fantastic
Me & my boyfriend stayed here over the valentines weekend and It was absoultely Fantastic. We had heard bad things about the reception being unfriendly and not very helpful, but when we arrived everything was exaclty like on the photos! The lady who checked us in was really nice and sweet! Our room was gorgeous, no manky tiles or old carpets. Really modern... The bed was made up with clean, fresh white linen, and as we'd booked the valentine's package, we had rose petals sprinkled over in the shape of a heart. Champagne on ice with 2 glasses and chocolates was also waiting for us. The package we booked was £195.00 total which included a 3 course meal in the City Cafe, where we were treated excellently, the service there is brilliant, and the meal was a la carte and delicious, at the end of the meal i was given a single red rose. In the morning, we had Champagne breakfast brought to us in our room, again with a single red rose, champagne and a really nice breakfast. We had a late check out of 2pm, so didn't have to climb out of bed til noon and we had a really nice time! Only thing we had to pay for was drinks and parking, everything was else was included in the price. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, couples, business travellers etc. Eveything was perfect and the weekend was just perfect. With regards to the bad reviews on this site, I think they are just picking on the stupid things, not the actual quality of the hotel or experience.
Disappointing experience
I stayed overnight at City Inn with a friend whilst visiting Birmingham for an event at NIA. First impressions were good and the hotel was in an excellent location. The room was clean, modern but quite small. Products in the bathroom were good quality. Breakfast is a buffet and is served until 11am on Saturdays and Sundays. We went for breakfast at about 10.30am. We were extremely disappointed. We had to ask for fresh milk, bowls for cereal, glasses for juice. Glasses were grubby. Service was slow and poor even though there were more staff than customers. The quality of the breakfast, food and drinks, was very poor. I would not recommend this hotel on the basis of our experience.
One of the Best Hotels i've ever stayed at!
Having stayed at many hotels across the country, this is definatly one of the Best. Hotels can seem intimidating at times, however i felt completely at ease here. The room, although not huge, had all the comforts and amenities you expect and then some! A DVD player in each room with an extensive DVD library - what a great idea! The beds are comfortable and the rooms soundproof. Hotel Restaurants, by the norm are dull and uninteresting, however the City Cafe really manages to lift the bar and a great idea to have a specific vegetarian menu! Great choice and exceptional service! The bar staff are friendly and knowledgable, particully about wines which explains why the wine list is so good. If you chance try it. I will definetly use it again both on business and on pleasure!
Time well spent
Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in I am extremely fussy! friendly staff who where more than happy to help from drinks in the bar to advise on my stay where I could go to enjoye Birmingham day and night!!!, the room was very relaxing warm and clean, and to top it all of a fab breakfast food was great and the service excellent, the staff and hotel facilities made it a weekend to remember.
Not a Boutique
The reception was a good start, but then the lift up it all started....Opened the door to be met by trays of food in the corridor (4) and then opened the room door to a "Shoe Box". The room was so small the wardrobe could only host 2 "Thread Bare" Dressing Gowns. The room was clean but the bed didnt even have a fitted sheet, the sheet over just touch the sides, hence the quilt was tucked in to make it look appealing. The Breakfast was good on the first morning (not many guests) but then as the week went on (more guests arrived) the standard of food dropped and the staff seem to get thinner. Overall I would say that the offers of 20 pounds off a nights stay should be off the overall price. I think it is a shame that such as new hotel is on its way down in such a short time... come on boost these problems and it would well up to the standards of the city inn in westminster.
Outraged !!!!!!!
The room was nice small but clean cd/dvd ect But that’s where it ended .My husband and I went to a concert at the nia had a great time. We came back to the hotel for a few drinks before bed and was told that because we had paid by cash not by credit card we were not able to have any drinks ,room service ect We went to the reception to see if we could use my visa debit card, they said no it had to be a credit card I never before hard such a thing , because I chose not to be in debit and pay credit card fees I was unable to enjoy the rest of our evening . We was not alone with this problem there was two other couples. The staff said this was hotel policy however a have looked at there hotel policy method of payment Payment methods We accept: American Express, Diners Card, Master Card, Visa, Maestro (Switch I should be able to use my card where ever you see the visa sign in this case not .As you maybe able to tell we where very angry with this and asked to be moved which they did and we stayed at the hotel across the road .They where very nice and helpful ,great service and a very very nice breakfast Thank you novotel we no where to stay next time.
Very convenient
Modern Hotel right in the Centre of Birmingham within easy walk of Symphony Hall, theatre and resturants. A few yards from Broad Street but very quiet. Car parking was very easy in adjacent (expensive but slightly discounted) car park. Room smelt a little smokey but was otherwise very clean and comfortable. It was very modern and stylish but otherwise no more comfortable than the Travel Inn a few yards away which is a bit over half the price. I would definitely stay here again in the same circumstances, which were that the Travel Inn was fully booked.
