I stayed at this hotel in Feb 2008 while exhibiting at the NEC and it was awful. The Duty Manager visited our room twice after we couldnt get the radiator to switch off and the room was so dusty and stuffy smelling we had the window open all night. He appologised that he... more

Beware, room ok, linen clean but had seen better days. Bathrooms dated with sinks clogged with previous occupants hair, shower wouldn't turn off. Food - AWFUL, dinner was booked for 7.30, the starters arrived at 8.45 (despite having young children in the group). The... more

Distinctly less than average
I stayed at the Corus Hotel in Solihull for one night before taking an early morning flight from Birmingham airport. I paid £110 for one nights accommodation & for the price I would've expected a much nicer hotel. Cleanliness / decoration: The hotel room was clean, although the bathroom was very shabby (dark, old bath, took ages to get a drinkable glass of water from the tap). The hotel itself is in need of renovation, the walls were all marked & scuffed. When I arrived at my room there was a dirty plate sat on the window sill opposite... more
Could not fault it!! Nicki from somerset
We stayed at this hotel in jan 07 for one night before we left for a 2 weeks holiday. We were a bit concerned after reading a review on this website. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Parking the car was very easy and the reception staff were efficient and very friendly. We had a family room for 3 and it was comfortable and clean. The courtesy bus service to the airport the next morning was extremely efficient. We can not comment on the restaurant as we did not use this facility. On our return, we discovered that... more
Be Warned
Arrived on the evening of the first major snow of 2007 in the Midlands. Entered through a bar full of drunks as the front entrance was not illumiated. Small cramped but clean room. Just settled down to read email when the fire alarm went off. No hotel can help this and I was happy about going back out into the snow for a role call. What I was not happy about was the staffs attitude! It may have been the highligth of their evening but they kept us in the snow for 45 minutes - NO information, and when the fire brigade left, nothing to tell us... more
GOOD LOCATION FOR NEC
Have now stayed at this hotel on 2 separate occasions and will be staying for a third time this year as I use it when attending an annual event at the NEC. If you want somewhere just to rest your head for the night and a decent value for money meal then this does fit the bill well. I have never had breakfast there but the evening meal has always been very nice and better value than I have paid in other large chain hotels. I am fussy about where I stay especially where cleanliness is concerned and I have never found a problem... more
Average Experience.
I spent a week at the Hotel on a Course. The room was typically business class, although could do with some re-decorating. Parts of the building are extremely warm and others cold. The majority of the rooms are a long walk from the restaurant and other facilities. The staff were as expected in a chain Hotel. I was always treated with politeness and a smile! The restaurant do not seem to have grasped the rudiments of heating food, however, and I was not surprised when on the third night following a Corporate presentation, it took the... more
AWFUL!!!!
My Wife and I stopped in this Hotel during the Summer of 2006 - The room was Airless we couldn't open the window - we assumed that this was to prevent excape - however the Receptionist advised us it was to prevent 'Suicide' !!! We asked for a fan or to upgrade to a room with Aircon and where told that they had neither. The item in the room that was jokingly refered to as a Bed, was infact springs covered with dirty fabric. Again we had a chat with the Manic Receptionist who agreed that the matrass was a problem and that she would ensure... more
grubby, shabby, not very nice at all.
Stayed here friday night in july. chose hotel because of useful location to M40/42. Horrible hotel. We checked in on friday night and after having ignored us for a full five minutes, the receptionist (who appeared to be an off duty cleaner?) got up from her desk and checked us in - in a very brusque and unfriendly manner. The hotel room was very very hot. Unsurprising as it has been very hot here. However I called reception (three times before anyone answered) and asked if any rooms had aircon. No, was the reply. Upon check... more
A tedious hotel
Stayd at the Corus Solihull while I was on a week long course in Birmingham. It is your 'standard' chain hotel and the level of service was quite poor. I was given a smoking room despite booking a non-smoking room. They were full and couldn't allocate me a differennt room until the next day. The room stunk and was in need of a major facelift. The bathroom had a mouldy smell and there was dirt and grime in the tiles. The room I moved to was much better and looked as if it had at least been decorated in the last 5 years. I... more
Getting better........
This is the third time I’ve used this hotel on business. My first stay (reviewed in this forum) was not good, my second stay was much better. This one is a bit mixed but still better than the first. Reception was very good, loads of smiles and help. The room was impressive (same one as last stay funnily enough) with three beds. It looked as if it had been decorated since my last stay. Bar was good, with table service in the lounge area. Restaurant service was poor….shown to a (uncleaned) table, brought two main courses and... more
Very poor
My wife and I stayed here for the duration of the Spring Fair (NEC) in early February. We would not stay here again. We changed room as the first room had no hot water. The door rattled as it was a loose fit and I had to lean a chair against it to stop it. A spare blanket in the wardrobe had what looked like human excrement on it. The room cleaning staff were poor with no supervision. A pair of rubber gloves were left in the room as well as a pair of soiled socks (not ours). We naturally complained and had our first evening... more
