Family perfection
from hankypants
I have stayed here 2 years ago with my eldest son when my youngest was in a nearby hospital and it was husbands turn to stay with him. At that time they upgraded us and I thought it was because I had mentioned the hospital that they were being thoughtful. We loved it then. This time our journey was for my sons check up. I didn't mention it at all to the staff. Instead of the standard room I had booked for the 4 of us they upgraded us to a suite which was brilliant. We had the chocs etc so felt very relaxed as the kids...

My Fiance and I stayed at this hotel as a last minute break before returning to work after the christams period. It was a bargain at £49 for the room for one night in which we booked on lastminute.com. The hotel is ideal for shopping at Merry Hill which is directly opposite, there are also numerous bars and restraunts within the imediate surroundings of the hotel. The hotel is a 4 star and looks it from the lobby and reception area, however the rooms are a little worn and dated and could do with a bit of a revamp, but nothing major. A...

OK But.......
from KJMFourMarks
The Hotel is in good shape with all the puplic areas clean, and well maintained. Price for the Saturday night was reasonable and included breakfast for the four of us (2 adults 2 children). Checking-in however did not live up to the promise of the surroundings. Check-in was apparently from 2pm, we arrived at 3:40pm but our room was not ready. When I asked reception what time our room would be available I was informed that housekeeping would call reception when it was ready. I politely inform the receptionist that this did not actually...

good choice
from Midy
Went for a long weekend on a coach tour. Hotel staff everywhere - reception, bar and especially restaurant were excellent. Very helpful and nothing too much trouble. The food was very good and the room was very clean and comfortable. We had rooms at the car park side which were quiet, but some people said the canal-side was noisy. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. We really enjoyed our stay.
A little disappointing
from daisymoochi
We went to this hotel as a coach party on a health and beauty weekend. The beauty treatment bookings and allocation of rooms had to be questioned as we had some problems in these areas. The staff on reception were not very understanding, we felt they needed some training in customer service. On arrival at our room, we found cigarette ash on the carpet (we are non smokers) biscuit crumbs and clumps of hair under the hairdrier, we went to reception and asked for another room but were told the room had been cleaned, we disputed this and...

Give it a miss - they need a chef amongst other things
from Dossie
Modern hotel - no air conditioning in the 15 rooms we occupied - windows open less than inch. Food - meat and fish overcooked - vegetables !(packets of frozen vegetables). Seating in the bar area had cigarette burns, cuts in the seating, dried in food and drink stains. Staff couldn't care less when complaints were made about the food and service etc. At night extremely noisy with all the pubs for the youngsters opposite, so sleep is just about impossible. Give it a miss.
Service less than welcoming
from Davidius
This hotel offers good value rates at weekends and we have no complaint about the value, quality or comfort of the connoisseur room allocated. However, staff at check-in were efficient but offhand--no eye contact. We had to wait for a converstation between no less than three members of staff to finish at checkout before anyone bothered to look up. Food in the restaurant was variable--poor starter which was hardly warm. Waiter with attitude was rather brusque, trying to give impression that he was rushed off his feet despite there being only...

Excellent Service
from A TripAdvisor Member
A last minute "get-a-way" weekend took us to the Copthorne. More interested in its location within the canal system than the shopping, but both proved beyond expectations. Arrived early and a "no-problem" reception took us straight to our room. Possibly a little lucky, but we gained a room overlooking the car-park which was obviously not as pretty as canalside, but I am told much quieter. On the opposite side of the canal, the pubs and clubs can become noisy. Spent an excellent day shopping - glad we did not choose to walk to...

"fair to middling"
from A TripAdvisor Member
Booked this hotel on strength of "connoisseur waterfront room, mineral water, chocolates, bathrobes, late check out" etc and pictures on hotels own website looked inviting! Arrived mid afternoon, reception staff ok but possibly needed to upgrade customer service skills.... arrived in room to find one bathrobe, on enquiring we discovered that "the hotel is full, people keep walking off with robes, we haven't got any more, one only!" no apology. Never mind, we could live with that. Went to dinner in hotel restaurant which I am pleased to...

Leave your preconceptions at the door!

We stayed at the Copthorne Merry Hill whilst visiting the in-laws. The hotel has been open for about 10 years and, although you'd never guess it, it has not had a refurbishment since it opened. The public areas are smart, spotless and contemporary and the room we stayed in was immaculately kept. The wallpaper, furnishings and carpet were 'as new' despite being a decade old. If you want a spotless hotel, with excellent service and maintenance and don't mind a bit of early 90's style, then this is the place for you. PS Breakfast is...
