The East Side Hotel is ideally situated for anyone wishing to tour in and around Berlin. As the name indicates, it sits on the East side of the old wall, and actually faces onto the last remaining pieces of the Wall, which are now an outdoor art gallery.
The hotel is very basic, but rooms are en-suite. TV, and the usually tea and coffee making facilities are also available in your room.
You are a five minute walk from both the train and underground stations, and the trams run at the end of the road.
The only drawback we encountered was that the hotel staff are not fluent English speakers. We managed to get by without any problems though, as we were hardly in the hotel! Due to the language problem, we didn’t use the bar or restaurant in the hotel. Instead, we travelled into Friedrichshain which is a ten minute walk, and enjoyed the many bars and restaurants that this small but lively area has to offer.
A note for disabled visitors - the hotel does have a lift for getting up and down, but the lift comes out on a landing between floors. Obviously they thought more for their cleaners that wheelchair users!
For our three-night stay, we were very pleased with the accommodation, mostly due to the central location and transport links surrounding it.
