Le Sherpa Reviews
" For a holiday with very little... "
Submitted By: Mr R Graham
For a holiday with very little planning beforehand things went remarkably smoothly except for one disaster but that’s no fault of Jolly Good and we’ll get to that later. Waiting for us after we collected our bikes and bags was a rather bored looking Helen waving her Jolly Good sign. The flight was late arriving. We bundled the bikes into the transit and set off into the mountains.

The accommodation, Le Sherpa, is absolutely ideal for the type of holiday and cant be faulted. It’s only a 5-minute walk from the town centre; 2 minutes from the supermarket and 2 minutes ride from the bottom of the lifts. The food, apart from one bizarre red cabbage puree soup, also cant be faulted.

As it happens I smashed my wrist in a fall on the 3rd day and owner Martin went above and beyond in helping with translations with local doctors and pharmacists and driving me to the hospital for the overnight surgery required to pin me back together. This gave me plenty time to sit in the Jolly Good bar which although good obviously never made up for the quality riding I was missing out on, but it did numb the pain nevertheless. All said, 2 days of bliss and 5 days of pain. Highly Recommended.

The Chalet has a bar attached called the Jolly Good Bar. Its small and shows lots of english football games The Sky TV that is advertised with the chalet is linked to the bar so if a game is showing that the bar advertises then you will not be allowed to watch anything else on Sky until it is finished.
Also, we had people come in from the bar to use the toilet on many occasions.
On Wednesday nights the bar has a 'Curry Night' for 15 Euros per person. This sounds great especially as Wednesday is typically the chefs night of in most catered chalets in the area. But what the owners of Le Sherpa have done is cunningly sold out the dining space and chef in the chalet you have already booked and paid for, so even if you wanted to get a take away you cant sit and eat it at the dining table because its already filled with strangers.
We thought this was a bit much and it wasnt something we were made aware of until it was too late. In fact when we were told of this at our welcome chat, there was already less places left than we had in our group so even had we have booked up it would have been a squeeze.
Your Chef actually has Thursday nights off when another staff member fills in and cooks dinner. In fairness it wasnt this meal that left a sour taste in our mouths but the whole principle of the curry evening.
The rooms are very basic and seriously lack storage space and while the rooms are classed as en-suite the reality is a little different. Its true that most have toilets and showers/baths in our case there was just a flimsy plastic folding door seperating the rooms and it wasn't very private. You might as well be in the same room to be honest so be aware.
In another case the room had only a shower with a curtain hiding their modesty and unfortunalety they were friends from work and didnt want to show each other their bits and bobs.
The food was good, the breakfasts really set you up for the day. The staff were all very friendly, especially the bar staff so absolutely no complaints there.
In fact I wont say there is anything wrong with Le Sherpa but would advise you know what you are getting into. In my opinion our rooms were basic and one step up from a hostel. But in hindsight this is reflected in the price.
Unfortunately for us, it wasnt what we wanted or expected so we probably wont stay here again unless it was a last minute thing or just a few days away.
