I have been to Marmaris 10 times and I love the place. I have stayed at the Mert Hotel twice, once in May 08 and the second time in September.
The first time round it was a great stay and the room provided was spacious as we were were a family of 3. Our stay in September wasn't quite up to standard and the cleaning standards were really poor. The bathroom wasn't cleaned once during our stay. The room was big enough for 2 people with free air con and tv but the tv didn't have any English music/news channels unlike in May. There were 2 light bulbs out but were changed within minutes of reporting it. The cleaner had the cheek to leave a tip envelope on the last day which did amuse us!!
Normally in Turkey when you require clean towels you leave them on the floor to indicate clean ones are needed. However, this wasn't the case as they were still there when we returned from the beach. It was a job to get clean towels and the receptionist said she couldn't leave the desk as she was the only one on duty. After an hours wait I decided to see her face to face and it was sorted in minutes. It's a pity this wasn't done the first time round.
The night receptionist played music through his computer all hours of the night and early hours of the morning which could be heard on the 2nd floor but when I rang reception to report this he insisted it wasn't him!!
The food is typical Turkish which I enjoy. Many British people expect an English breakfast but all the hotels in Turkey I have stayed in provide a Turkish breakfast.
Marco on the other hand was an asset to the hotel and without him this would not have been a pleasant stay. In May and September he was exceptional and he speaks good English so is always willing to listen, unlike the reception staff. I don't think I will be giving the Mert another chance.

Sep 2008, Mr A P Durrington

its hard to call a hotel when the staff are so friendly but the people of england need to be warned, myself and wife have just returned from this hotel, the holiday itself was fantastic but the hotel mert itself was far from it, the picture flatters it the hotel has seen better days, the rooms are small with single what can only be described as training cots/beds for toddlers, the only saving grace was the air con, the linen (thats a joke) hadn't even been changed from the previous occupant, how could i tell, well there were what i can only describe as "skid marks" on them, despite showing the manager they were not changed, i took them off everyday, they put them back on I hadn't even checked in when I was met by one of my fellow countrymen to tell in his word's "the food was little and what there was of it crap", just what I needed after a 4 and 1/2 hour plane journey and 2 and 1/2 hour coach journey, to my dismay he was right, I like to try things whilst on holiday its all part of it, but salad & olives are not my idea of breakfast, yes there were boiled eggs bread and cheeses, jams etc, truth is the hotel whilst it is cheap serves even cheaper food it caters to the eastern Europeans and Russians, a bit of cereal and a toaster would make all the difference. Then there are the evening meals, a variety of salads, and traditional "Turkish Dishes" in other words more food for the Russians etc green beans fried lettuce and cabbage frozen mixed veg in 35 degree heat sorry not for me, kebab meat shish chicken even fish served traditionally would not have gone a miss, the swimming pool was the saving grace of the whole hotel, the sunbeds were fine the pool was warm it was great save for the chip butty's more like Chip Dockers Wedge half a blommer with 2lbs of chips on it, it kept me alive well that and the beer. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED BOOK THIS HOTEL IS NOT FOR THE BRITISH

have just spent 2wks at the mert.cleaning standards very poor,we asked 3 times for room to be properly cleaned,we also spoke to the manager but still nothing was done.the railings on balcony so dirty we never went out, shame as there was plenty of activity, only your clothes would have been filthy.the food was a very poor choice especialyif you didnt eat dairy food, take that away and it was bread honey cherry jamtomatoes and olives, same daily.3 times we had to ask at receptin for toilet rolls.staff not very friendly always hovering over you to clear tables.dont think the mert is worth 3*.a shame it has a good position, good air conditioning, shame the standards of cleanliness dont match.we will not be returning.

Have just spent a great week at this hotel and was sorry to be coming home. The room we were allocated was quite small but then you don't go on holiday to spend time in your room! Clean towels were provided every day and fresh bedding twice in the week. Breakfasts were nothing great - bread, boiled eggs and cheese etc but the evening meals especially the soup were really tasty. It is in a great position for the beach and is pretty central for all the clubs on the front at the sea but what made our holiday so great was the staff. They were so friendly and done everything, above and beyond what was required of them in their duties. We even went to a nightclub with some of them - feel like I have known them for years now! I am now checking out deals for later in the year and would not hesitate to book here again.

The location of the Mert Hotel is...
7 / 10
May 2008, Mrs H Gray

The location of the Mert Hotel is excellent right on the sea front close to bars and restuarants. There were three of us sharing a room and it was spacious with fabulous sea view, the hotel is clean, however the food has a lot to be desired.
The Hotel Management were not very helpful, one of our main problems was there is only one key given for the room and you cannot shut the door without locking it also whilst in the room you need the key to accss the electricty supply, because we were a goup of 10 girls this caused problems, eg if you wanted a sleep in the afternoon the others wanted to go shopping when they came back you had to disturbe the person having a rest to open the door.
There is no cups or glasses in the room, one day when I needed to take some tablets went to ask for glass, receptionist would not allow this.
On the whole the management were not accomodating at all. This was compensated 150% by Marko who looked after us whilst we were by the pool, who was friendly efficient, thoughtful and made us all feel welcome, this member of staff is a huge asset to the hotel.

Oct 2007, top totty

On arrival we were a little upset because there were 2 families in party that went, me and my family with a 1 year and 7 year old was put on the 5th floor and my sister and her family 18 year old and 12 year was put on the 2nd floor, didn’t make a fuss it was 3-00 in the morning and we were all tired.
When we got to our room my room was huge and clean and we had a lovely view of the beach, my sister was at the back of the hotel not has nice as ours and her room was not as big. So if anyone is booking this hotel request for 501 rooms we had no problems with anything in this room we had hot water all the time no leaks and the air con worked.
We went half board I’ve been coming to marmaris for 10 years and this was the first time we went half board thumbs up to the chef, yes we had chicken a lot of the times but it tasted different every time. He did this you have to understand the chef can only cook what is given to him by the management so if you’re not happy don't pick on the chef he made lovely soup, different one every night and his chips are bloody lovely too just like we make back home also you got to try his rice pudding mwah to him tip chief!
The waiters were lovely too couldn’t do enough for you and they were great with the kids which most Turkish people are anyway they love kids.
The maids were lovely too nothing was too much for them extra pillows, blankets, towels, toilet rolls you name it they got it for you.
I will be going back to this hotel next year 3* they give 3* it was, if you want posh things then go 5* but I was happy with this hotel at the end of the day you only sleep there we had all we needed a TV and hairdryer what more do you want?
Great location the beach is right on your door step for lazy days go towards the beach right walking for 5 mins till you reach Demir restaurant guy called bob will wait on you hand and foot beds on his beach are free he has been looking after me for 10 years now he's great fun.
Try the kebab place 3 doors down from hotel you can get anything from kebabs to cheese and onion toastie very cheap and lovely waiters.
Night time if you can't be bothered then there’s the hotel bar next door good bunch of lads who will look after you, or go to towards the beach turn left and right at your door step you will find bars of all ages.
I had a fab time and I love Marmaris.

Oct 2007, Miss CV Law

The hotel itself is excellent! We had a brilliant room, with a balcony that had great A* sights. Air conditioning was the best attraction of the room considering it was really hot!! I found the bathroom shower a bit too weird ... No shower curtain so the water went everywhere ... Surely they would think of fitting some curtains in and save time and money for the cleaners?!
Most of the staff were really nice, especially the waiting staff, very helpful!! Although it has to be said, the day receptionist is very rude and miserable ...
The hotel is situated just metres from the beach and .... CLUBS !!!
The local people hassle too much and can get quite annoying !! After a while you just need to learn to IGNORE, and just walk on.
Question is now, would I ever go back to Turkey ?? Hmmm ... YES !!! I didn't want to come back home in the first place!! But this time I would like to adventure more around and stay in a different area, maybe Icmela!
