Nov 2011, chardie

As in my previous review myself and my husband went back to the Malibu appartments again we had a lovely time, we did ask for a different room as we originally didnt have a room overlooking the aqualand and the receptionist was very willing to swap us, we also used the splash bar a few times for lunch and evening meals which for the money we excellent, the weather again was fab!! We are off to barbados in January :) but we definatley are going back to the Malibu in April .

Its a cheap and cheerfull place to stay yes basic but we enjoyed every minute of our holiday. The weather was fab,we overlooked to aqua park which was nice and there was a cheap supermarket that sold strongbow for a euro!!!!we are going back there tomorrow for a cheap week in the sun so hopefully we will enjoy it as much as we did the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!Dont be put off by the review just remember you only get what you pay for !!

We arrived to be welcomed by a scruffy reception area with an even sruffy lookin ignorant receptionist!rooms very basics pulled bed out from under sofa and a tennis ball size of black hair blew out from underneath! the towels and sheets had holes in them they werent changed all week we were there.lizards and cockroaches in our room all the time!no air con at all unless you hired it for the week at an extra cost!the pool ruined my kids swim shorts as they put cylican round the pool to stop the leaks but no sign warnin this!the pool didnt get cleaned once we were there, there was grime around the edge from sun oils. My kids came home with verucose on there feet! one final complant was i was awarded on my last day with 15 euro fine...yes 15 euros..for gettin makeup on towels so was fined 5 euro per towel!! never again would i go there i felt dirty the whole week
weather was fab.

considering there is a sign no dogs people had dogs barking throughout the night and had muzzles on. pool area by end of day littered with cans and bottles and lager etc being tipped into pool during day.accomodation wasnt ready so moved to another room not set up for 3 people.had to phone twice for bedding etc .fridge defrosted and ruined weeks shopping had to fight to get a fridge that worked. lights not working in kitchen and balcony took 2 days to get fixed.window in bedroom would not shut or lock that took 3 days to get sorted out, bit was told it was fine, but you cld climb in when shut. Rep was only interested in doing his hours and wanted to get off ontime and wasnt bothered abt guests. He cld not make a discussion for himself, he always phoned the manager of Thomas Cook. Not enough keys for side gate, so if you didnt know abt this, you wld have to walk up the hill and it took 4ever. It was a low star, it took over 4 hrs to boil an egg and even then, it wasnt edible and had to throw eggs out. Wasnt well eguipped to stay there as a self catering holiday, having a microwave wld have made the difference as the cooker didnt work properly, also you dont expect to have to pay for tv or radio also shld have had air conditioning, but the staff advised us that we cld have a fan for the room at a additional charge, which is not very good, as you pay enough for self catering. Spanish people were not friendly at all.

  • Advice: surroundings where nice. Apartments need a facelit and have the appropriate equipment to stay longer and make it comfortable

Great Holiday

Was worried about staying here after reading some of the reviews, but was very surprised when arrived. Staff were helpul and the apartment was very clean and tidy. Apartment is basic, but we only wanted a place to put our heads down. We were a family of 4 and stayed for 2 weeks, wished it was longer. Pool areas were clean and the pool bar was reasonably priced for food and drink. Maids cleaned every day apart from a Sunday. The only thing that would put me off staying here again is the walk up the hill and that there isnt much entertainment but taxis are cheap enough. A very enjoyable holiday overall.

Fantastic Holiday Apartments

Myself, husband & son aged 4yrs old visited these apartments for 2wks on the 25th of May for 2wks. We were dreading the stay as so many people put awful reviews about it but we got a massive surprise on arrival. The staff were very friendly, apartments were spotless (Most of my holidays I have to give the place and extra clean as I have very high standards but didnt have to at this complex) the Maids were in 6 days out of 7 and we got fresh bedding and towels when we left them on the floor at the door which for the towels was every day! The pool was cleaned every morning and night and although very cold was great fun and spacious for the kids to play in their pool with inflatables and let the adults chill in their pool right next to them. There were pleanty of sun beds and the grounds were kept in perfect condition! We went at a quiet time of year, and i have been told that during peak season it is hectic and very noisy but just to be expected at any resort. The staff Roberto and Maria and others were amazing at the splash bar, the food was gorgeous and great value for money, If I went back this would be the only place id go for a meal as it was so cheap but the quality of the food wasnt compromised. Very good with children and has a park with 3 swings and two chutes, basic but my boy played in it every day and loved it plus again it was very clean. We had a hair dryer, kettle, toaster etc and could have hired other things like dvd players etc from outside company that advertised within the complex but we went on holiday not to sit in front of tvs etc!!! We had a fantastic view of the AquaPark and Ocean and could watch the dolphins every morning and night from our balcony. Great value for money. There are a lot of hills but the island is a volcano and it only costs 3euros to get to the beach, shops etc from the apartments. Ask at reception and they will get you a taxi. The terrace bar and lounge are also very nice for meals and drink but I did find the food at their shop a bit on the expensive side and basic, a 2min walk down the hill and turn left is a spar or jump into a taxi and ask for nearest mercadona (super market) even cheaper if you are planning on cooking for yourself and family - we also found a fantastic restaurant on the sea front next to puerto colon called vista al mar or vista la mar - portions were out of this world, food fantastic, service AMAZING! All in all we didnt want to come home amazing holiday would def come back again. Visit the local market on a thur and sat for bargains, dont go to shops for prezzies to take back home, haggle at the market across from c.c El Duque any taxi driver will take you to mercadillo (market). Buy all attraction tickets on line before going much cheaper at attractiontix or at the parks direct web sites. If you love dolphins then its a must to do the dolphin encounter at aqualand, wow out of this world. Have a fun holiday and dont worry about all the bad reviews honestly what a fantastic place! Splash bar has pool tables, air hockey, fooseball, english televisions. Terrace Bar has pool tables and table tennis!

  • Advice: Have fun and get to know the staff at the splash bar and any other guests that have been before, there are a lot of short cuts that can make the walk shorter! Lol

Apr 2011, STEPH

I've stayed in a few apartments but this is by far the worst apartments i've ever stayed in. Dirty, dirty, dirty. On the second night are money got stolen from our room, it was hidden away aswel. Somebody was watching our room DEFO. We felt really un safe staying there. We reported it to the hotel staff and the woman was rude and didnt really want to help us. Our thomas cook rep was good and moved us to laguna park and LOVED IT. Were going back inm july!!!

I wouldnt recommend anyone to stay at Malibu Park. Me and my partner booked here as a last minute getaway and wish we hadnt wasted our money. We went self catering so didnt expect anything flashy - but this was really awful. The holiday kicked off to a bad start anyway as my partners case was lost when we got here. But luckily it was back with us the next day. Cleanliness was very poor in the apartments. The maids visted the room to make the bed and empty the bins - but there was no other signs of cleaning the entire time. We had our bedding changed once - and this was 5days into the holiday so we only had 2 days left! My partner got abit of make-up on the pillow after a night out, and the maid politely just turned it over. It was like that for the next 3 days. We also had lack of clean towels. I put a used one on the floor, and the maid hung it back up on the rail when she cleaned. The bath had hairs around the side when we got there and the toilet was disgusting. The weather was really good for the first few days - but the pool is absolutely freezing. And far too deep. There is a childs pool and then an adult pool. The adult pool is all one depth - and far too deep for me to stand up in. The entertainment is shocking. And repeats the same songs and jokes everynight! A particular favourite of theirs being Gloria Estefan`s "Conga". Although they did put on a watchable Snake and Parrot show. Also, dont get anything from the shop near reception. The prices are double that of the local Spar which is just to the bottom of the hill near the taxi rank. I brought a bottle of pop for 2 Euro which i thought was expensive for what it was. When i paid i asked for a glass - to the reply she would have to charge me an extra 3 Euro if i drank sat in! One morning whilst eating breakfast in the terrace bar - a man was sat throwing up all over the table and floor - nice. He wiped it away with a tissue - but wasnt properly cleaned from the waiting staff. So we steered away from that area for the rest of the time. We made friends with a cracking bunch of people while we were there, and general conversation they all had the same issues we did. I would never go back there again!

Take no notice of all the bad reviews on these apartments, yes it is up a hill but the gradient isn't that bad, couldn't fault anything with the complex, all the staff were friendly, rooms were kept clean with everything you would need for a S/C holiday, if you're expecting microwaves, irons & ironing boards in the rooms go to a higher star hotel, but you can hire them for a reasonable cost if you want to plus a number of other items to make your holiday better, we hardly ate in the apartment as there were loads of reasonably priced restaurants around, i would recommend Lito's at the end of the road to the left & Phoenix to the right, if you want that little bit extra go to El Molino Blancos you can't miss it as it is a white windmill. On the resort there is The Terrace?Next Door Bar, staff are great & food delicious & reasonably priced you can upgrade your stay to half-board for 35 Euros per person, the splash bar around the pool is brilliant, all I can say is I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!!!

Be warned!

Feb 2011, Disgruntled.

This place is very basic. I admit it is only a 3 star but still expected more than we got. The apartment was fairly clean except that the fridge had not been emptied of last occupant's left overs. There was no information given on check-in (except directions to apartment) and no information in the apartment itself. No microwave! this is an essential on a self catering holiday. We found out that we could hire things but the cost was dreadful - 35eu for a TV card (not even basic channels for nothing); 20eu for a safe key; iron/ironing board, extra utensils, etc etc all had to be paid for. If you wanted a reasonable level of equipment I reckon it would cost at least 150eu which rather negates the cost being low. The apartment was not cleaned all week except for rubbish being emptied, no change of sheets all week. We had to fight to get clean towels. There was a leak on the bath which soaked the bath mat - we asked for a clean one and it appeared (finally) the day before we left! Staff non-commital! rep useless!
The Terrace Bar was closed every night, the indoor bar was open but I only ever saw 2 people in there and karioki!!!
Very hilly position - I have a walking problem and it was difficult. BUT good restuarants at bottom of hill - recommend lito's, nice view from apartment but it didn't get any sun at all which made it cold. Would I go again? NO.

Feb 2011, Glasgow

Do not waste your money staying at this hotel. On arrival we were told we have to "hire" an ironing board and iron €25 + €10 Deposit for a week, on top of that to watch the TV, we would have to buy a card at €35 for 5 days!
Apartments entrance is actually round the back of the hotel, and up another 2 hills) It's €5 to the nearest shops etc, and about €8 to the nearest bars etc, and back again!
Apartments seemed to be filled with a lot of Spanish (who seemed to be living there, and not actually on holiday)
I will add howeveer the pool was very nice, and the complex in general was kept extremely clean 24/7!

  • Advice: Unless you want the very basic, go elsewhere!
