Just back from a weeks stay at Malibu Park. We didn't pick this as it was allocation on arrival but when we saw it was 3 stars we thought it would be fine. However it became apparent that the stars must be awarded by finding them inside cereal packets. On this rating system the local YMCA must be 5 star.
Unlike other reports we were not robbed but then we worked out how to use the "high security piece of wood" to jam the patio doors closed (or were we just lucky).
We thought we had got a tan within hours of arriving but later realised that you can't get a tan at 4 in the morning and that it was just the dirt off the floor of our apartment sticking to the bottom of our bare feet. It does wash off and gave us the idea that if the sun didn't shine for the week we could strip naked and roll on the floor before going home.
Unlike other hotels when you leave dirty towels on the floor to be exchanged, the maids in this complex will fold them neatly and hang them back on the rail for you. We did get clean towels halfway through the week, and we knew this because she had hung them in the bidet.
There were 3 of us sleeping in the room and it was a lottery as to which beds the maids would make up and which ones she would neatly fold the sheets at the bottom. The third bed, by the way, is a sofa bed type thing which you use the cushions off the settee and adjoining chair to make a mattress. It was a bit like a jigsaw puzzle with half the pieces missing because with the best will in the world we couldn't get enough cushions to cover the bedsprings (but then I wasn't sleeping on it so stopped trying after 8 and a half hours).
There is a lift but it made noises like a 9 month pregnant woman being clubbed with a baseball bat while running up a ladder so we decided to use the stairs. If you decide to use the stairs make sure you choose the right ones as the gates at the bottom of some are locked despite them being clearly marked "emergency exit". Luckily we found this out on our first day. I would have hated to find out in different circumstances, say with flames licking round my buttocks.
But... The cracker was still to come.....
We had an accident in our room where one of us tripped over a shoe inside the door and put his hand on the wall catching the mirror and breaking it. No big deal we thought, didn't injure himself and we'll pay for the damaged mirror. It looked like something you could buy for £5.99 down the local shop. So anyway the Thomas cook Rep informed us that the manager wanted 100euros so we asked "should we tip him as well?". Well actually we said "aye right". Well within minutes he was back telling us that it was 50euros he wanted. Close, but no cigar. When we told the rep that this still wasn't reasonable he said he would get the local police. We thanked him for his help and said that would be fine. Anyway on check out we asked to speak to the manager who was "in a meeting" so we said we would wait and and within seconds another Thomas Cook rep came (wish I could remember her name) and we explained it to her and she sorted it all out for 25euros in less than 2 minutes. So much for the first rep helping his customers.
Malibu park? Never again!
But if you are unlucky enough to be there then the Chinese restaurant at the bottom of the lift is brilliant and Litos for a breakfast is unbeatable.

My self, hubby and 2 kids (aged 10 & 12) stayed at the Malibu Park for 2wks in 2007 summer school holidays. I was very worried after reading some of the reviews but seeing as we'd paid for holiday, felt we just had to make the most of it!
Our room was right near reception and a literally a 30 second walk to swimming pool. Rooms were basic and we had maid service every day, except weekends. For first couple of days we had cockroaches staying with us, but after using bug spray and putting a towel by the gap under the front door, we got rid of these unwelcome visitors!
Pool was excellent and most days we could get a sun bed, poolside bar very reasonable for drinks and snacks, area was kept clean. Reception staff and rep (Laura) were very helpful and answered all questions asked of them.
Aqua park was good but a bit of a rip off, after paying entrance fee, you then had to pay for sun beds and rings to go on rides, I recommend you take your own food and drink as these are very expensive in the park.
I found walking up the hills a bit of a problem, but there is a lift at the back of the complex and taxi fares are cheap into main resort, where goods are tax free, well worth buying electrical equipment here!
Beaches are lovely and clean, but water is colder than the med. This was a good cheap basic holiday and you do get what you pay for, it's as good or bad as you let it be!

After reading about all the reviews on the web about Malibu myself and my partner were also quite worried about going. However the reviews were misleading, we found our room very nice and cleaned daily, fresh sheets daily as well as towels.
The staff and workers at the Malibu were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone. The only bad thing was coming home.

I went to Malibu park o 7th sept 07 for two weeks just came back it is nothing like on the internet. Loads of break ins. There is a piece of wood securing the patio.
There was dog/ human poo round the pool and the maids cleaned round it. So my husband went and cleaned it up.
All our children’s clothes hair went green with the pool. There was no entertainment as stated on site.
The only thing there was at night was film at night. It spoilt our holiday with the break ins and all the reception said was you should check your room more than once a day which is rubbish to me. And it is all inside jobs with maids/ security guards.
It was very noisy at night had no sleep for two weeks. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone we had 3 children it was terrible.

My wife and I stayed at Malibu Park for the week whilst visiting Tenerife. We found the staff and company to be quite pleasant and the place itself to be also.
The hygiene was "ok", nothing good I must say. However, our rooms did get cleaned daily (apart from weekends) but the cockroaches seemed to be never ending.
The TV you had to pay for, although we were told it was inclusive. Our fridge at first didn't work, however the staff were very helpful and efficient in getting a replacement.

Just got back from a 10 day stay at Malibu Park, what can I say after reading some of reviews was a little worried, but can honestly say there was nothing to worry about.
The accommodation was nice and clean, maid service every day provided with clean sheets and towels. Pool area was nice and the splash bar staff friendly.
It is 98% English that stay there and got on with most people, can honestly say will definitely go back there the bars and restaurants as you walk over the motorway bridge are great and friendly.
We went into most of them our regular place was the Irish Rover great staff and Ashley who does the Karaoke is great he was so funny and my 9 year old son really got on with him he was up every night singing his head off. As I said overall place lovely clean and very friendly.
We only had one disappointment and that was the Big Night Out with the Reps what a con, it cost us 105 Euros that was for 2 adults and 1 child, once we paid that we was told we had to make our own way there, they tell you it costs about 3 Euros in a taxi load of rubbish we paid just under 20 Euros there and back.
It is suppose to be 8.00 till 11.30 drinks and food are in the price that you first pay, what they don't tell you is when you meet its at a bar called Leonardos where you have to pay for your drink and its expensive, you stay there till about 9 then walk to paradise Island which is only a couple of minutes but by the time you get there and seated you get your first drink around 9.30pm (local beer and wine rubbish) food was ok, but we was told entertainment was all 60's,70's.80's and 90's music and that the kids would all be entertained to.
There was no 80's or 90's music and my son fell asleep as the reps done nothing to keep him entertained. At the end we told the reps what we thought and they was very rude to my husband and some friends that we met over there, at the end of the day if they want to work in that line of work they should also be able to accept criticism when they get it.
The bar shut at 11.15 and they don't tell you they are shutting so you can get a last drink and then when its finish they just leave you on street to get your own taxi and own way back which I thought was disgusting as you are right by veronicas which is all night clubs and full of young drunk people, well I am sorry but I don't think kids should be on that kind of street and that time of night and thought it was very wrong of the Reps not to stay with you to get taxi's.
That was the only thing wrong with holiday and would recommend to any one not to go out on any of the reps excursions we wished we had saved our money and gone to the Irish Rover where we knew would get a good night.
Overall would definitely go back again.

I have stayed at these apartments twice now, they are fine. Good basic accommodation, serves its purpose, nice pool area friendly staff. Maid service could do with kick up the bum but we had no cockroaches or ants or anything like that.
Enough bars and supermarkets within a couple of minutes, but the further you venture the busier it gets, a taxi the centre where the main nightlife is was only €6.
Would stay here again, don't expect 5*accommodation, you get what it says on the tin!!!!

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Malibu Park, I was worried about staying there after reading some of the reviews but overall it was ok.
The apartment was basic but clean - well apart from the floor they could have been cleaned a bit better. we had maid service everyday apart from the weekend.
We had no roaches but a fair few ants. The Balcony was ok we had great views of Aqua land which I was expecting to be noisy but wasn't.
The hill we didn't find too bad even with a baby in the pushchair and a toddler as well, although you could use the lift if you wanted to.
The Rep Laura was lovely and great with the kids.
We couldn't get sun loungers on any day as the resort was very busy but we went to Playa Las Americas beaches nearly every day so were not bothered.
Whilst down in Las Americas found two lovely places to eat. Breakfast had to had in the English place Heads n Tails and dinner had to be at Mayte, at both restaurants the staff were wonderful and friendly and the food simply gorgeous.
Would I go back to Malibu Park, possibly not as it was a bit far out for me, as we had to get a taxi every day to the beach.

My two teenage daughters and I have just returned from a one week holiday at Malibu Park. The pictures in the brochure make it out to be immaculate but that is far from being correct.
In the week that we were there the apartment didn't appear to be cleaned once, we never saw the maids although we did get clean towels the day after we arrived and the day before we left which we didn't find very useful.
The room was ridden with ants as was the terrace which was also a disgrace. The good thing was you didn't have to get up early to put your towels on the sun loungers as there were plenty of them but not many parasols.
The rep was very polite and always acknowledged us. There were plenty of places to eat if you were prepared to walk up and down hills, the pool side bar staff were very friendly and the food was good.
We would visit Tenerife again but not the Malibu park apartments.

After reading the reviews on this site I was so worried that I tried to get my husband to cancel the holiday or change it. Glad I didn't as this was a terrific holiday and the other reviews are rubbish!
Four of us where in our party, my husband, two children aged 3 and 6 and myself. We arrived and didn't get asked for a deposit for the room as stated in other reviews, we were given a detailed map of how to find our room and told how to find the lift at the back of the complex so that we could avoid the steep hill at the side.
Our room was clean and I did a quick check of each room to look for cockroaches and found none, our balcony looked over the aqua park and sea to the left and mountains to the right, the balcony door had a lock and also a piece of wood to stop it being opened but if someone wanted in they would smash the glass anyway!!
The maid cleaned every weekday and supplied fresh sheets and towels, one day I asked her not to clean as we had had a late night and I had to sign a piece of paper stating that I had asked her not to, obviously a few things have changed since the last reviews.
The whole holiday I found no cockroaches in the Malibu Park resort, some in the street late at night but that was it. There was a free bus on the hour that took you to two stops near the beach, the staff were friendly and helpful and the rep Laura was very helpful and we had a laugh with her.
I had to speak to Laura on one occasion as the room next door to us were very noisy at 4am a few nights in a row, she spoke to them, and the situation was resolved. We spoke to reception as our balcony light stopped working and they came and sorted it within 10 minutes.
Laura checked on us constantly, she would speak to us at the pool or would phone our room to make sure everything was okay and she was always available to talk to if there was any problems.
The only downside to the Malibu is that there was no entertainment, they showed two films at night, not of the best quality, and I feel that even if they had provided karaoke or a quiz night or something then people would have got to know other people and not need to leave the resort for entertainment.
We found a terrific family run bar just opposite the Aqua Park called Hemingway’s, Gary cooked the best cooked breakfasts, we tried a few other places but his was by far the best, at night the entertainment started at 9pm Karaoke done by Dwayne, he made everyone feel welcome and was a terrific singer, sadly we weren't but after a few we thought we were!!
Kim and Kevin own the bar and are the nicest people you could meet, the girls left Tenerife in tears as they wouldn't see Aunty Kim and Uncle Kevin!! They would bend over backwards to make you feel at home, drinks got put on a tab and were delivered to your table, they would tell you were to visit and give you directions and they were terrific with the children, in fact they were the ones who wanted to return every night and they both even got up to sing!!
Other places to visit for good food was Malibu at the bottom of the hill, Pinocchio's which had a bouncy castle for the children to play on and Bill Baileys. We did quite a few trips, the girls loved the Monkey Park the best as they got to hold monkeys and feed them, my husband loved the Aqua Park as he is a big kid at heart, I loved the flamenco dancing show which is a must, the food was terrific and the entertainment was superb.
We also went to Loro Parque which is fantastic especially the Killer Whale show, amazing!!
The trip to Mount Teide was very disappointing, two and a half hours journey and then they wanted more money to get a cable car to the very top of the hill!! We didn't go to the top and used the money we saved to go on the glass bottom boat trip, every child on the boat got seasick and was really ill although we did see some dolphins and whales.
The Aqua park is superb for adults and children although take your own food as it is really expensive, the dolphin show was amazing and you can pay extra if you wish to touch the dolphins and kiss them. We managed to get our tickets for free saving around £70 as we met a guy called Brain outside and told us that if we wanted free tickets we just had to listen to someone telling us about their hotels for 90 mins and we would get free tickets.
We went along and listened and got shown around one of their hotels which took 2 and a half hours before we told them we weren't interested and got free tickets!! Quite a few people signed up to this holiday timeshare scheme so beware!! Also look out for the lucky, lucky men they are all over the beach area, we had a laugh though as one offered us to buy one pair and get 79 free, you can tell they don't get much business!!
Also the hair braiding girls are on the beach and ask you if you want your hair braiding, the price started at 25 Euros for one half of the hair and we managed to cut her price to 20 Euros for both girls to get their hair done!! Also it is really annoying as you get asked constantly to go into a bar or cafe to eat and drink and you get fed up saying no!!
We had no real complaints with this holiday, if you want a fan you can hire one from Lito's just near the lift as there it is cheaper than anyone else. The trips can be booked the cheapest at Admiral Travel which is just at the first stop when you get off the free bus. The taxis are really reasonable and easy to access. And the people are really friendly.
I would certainly return and go back to the Malibu.

Arrived at the complex, which looked really decent, pool area was exceptionally clean, wished I had have booked a bed at the side of the pool.
The first room we were given made Faulty Towers look like the Dorchester.
We complained and we were offered a great looking room at an extra cost of 200 euros, as I was ready to drive back to the airport and go home we reluctantly paid for it. Would never do that again!
We then settled in with a lovely view over the aqua park, which I have to say is great value for money!
We didn’t, ( once we had paid extra )expect to share our apartment, but unfortunately the living locals didn’t object to coming in and sharing our facilities, I do of course refer to the cockroaches!
Fair enough, we are living in their country and I did expect to see the odd one or three, but I have to say after being woken up in the early hours of the morning with one of them sharing my bed......well you can imagine. I found it pretty hard to sleep again.
Playa was absolutely fabulous its just a shame I cannot say the same about the Malibu complex!
Would definitely go back to Tenerife again, in fact already re-booked, but under no circumstances would I ever stay in the Malibu cockroach friendly complex again.

When I arrived my room wasn't ready and after waiting 40 minutes I was given my room. No directions given to rooms took over 30 minutes to find it, had to go back and ask for directions which weren't right, but I eventually found it.
Rooms were spacious, but light in bathroom wasn't working and safe didn't work, good job friends safe worked. Asked reception about it and they said it's not their problem. Then to top it off my room was broken into and staff and reps did not believe me. Luckily nothing got took as I was in the room, my room was the only room that didn't have bars on the window and patio door didn't lock. When I reported this to the reps they told me that this had happened a few weeks before (so why is it still happening now!!).
One morning me and my mates walked past reception and no-one was there, all the keys to the apartments was on show. My mate asked for a spare key to their room and the receptionist gave them the keys to all the apartments. As honest as she is she gave them straight back and asked her to take the key off for their apartment. On the day before we came home they promised me a room I could move into which Laura (rep) had told the receptionist to give me but when I came back from the beach the receptionist had given it to someone else which made me very mad. I asked her why but she didn't care and she laughed in my face.
The best thing on this holiday was the nightlife I would recommend Linekers bar to anyone who goes! I will warn you now never to stay in this hotel (Malibu more like Malipoo)! The receptionist was the rudest person I have ever met and she needs sacking before she ruins your holiday!!!
