Jan 2008, Mr M Hodgson

ok i was somewhat apprehensive about going to malibu park after reading the comments on here.
and so i should have been.
got there mid afternoon, waited in long line to book in only one member of staff working to book people in while others stood around and done nothing.
got to room and first thing we noticed as soon as we opened door to the room was a size 12 hole in the bathroom door [which the kids found amusing to stick their heads through while we were on the toilet, for the whole holiday].
went to open balcony door to see what sort of view we had [which was of other apartments] and found the door secured by a tiny clasp which a year could pull loose, we didnt even the re-assurrance of the high security piece of wood.
so went down to reception told them all the problems with the room and asked them for the code for safety deposit box and was told that it was broken and that they would get us a new one.
so we unpacked our things, and went out for the night [making sure we were carrying all our holiday money on us, came back to room about 11pm and found the light in our lobby wasnt working either, so had to spend 10 mins trying to get the key in the door.
went to reps meeting next day told them about everythiong, and they assured us it would be sorted out.
got high security piece of wood for the patio doors 4 days later, after 5 days the replaced the saftey deposit box, but they didnt even bother fixing it to any thing they just through it in the cupboard upside down and just left it there, still waiting for outside light to be fixed when we left.
we did have maid service every day apart from weekends, towels always thrown into bidet, beds were tidied and clean, floor was never swept or mopped the whole time we were there.
and whenever we complaind to rep all we got was i have reported, there is nothing else i can do.
as for the resort it is a great place to go, very friendly plenty to do both for couples and families.
our fave place to go for brekkie was Lito's, good prices, good food, and great peolpe.
on a night time we always liked to start the night off at Garfileds for a cheap drink and friendly atmosphere, if you go to garfields please tell jody and danielle that ellis and connor are missing them.
i would definately go back to the resort, but under no circumstances what so ever would i go back to malibu park.
please believe the posts here, thomas cook can be that bad, its like a lottery getting a decent room at malibu park, in fact you have more chance of winning the lottery.
never again will i trust my hard earned holiday with thomas cook

We have just returned from one week's...
8 / 10
Jan 2008, Mrs M Wilson

We have just returned from one week's stay at the Malibu Park apartments, Tenerife. We were very apprehensive having read the reviews a few days before our holiday began. The mention of cockroaches made my skin crawl and filled me with dread. Also the reference to the reception staff being rude concerned us somewhat.
On arrival at reception we did encounter one member of staff whose interpersonal skills were lacking to say the least. However, I am glad to say that he was the only staff member who was found to be like this.
The apartment itself was a good size (it was just for the two of us). The kitchen equipment was limited, though adequate. The beds were found to be clean and the balcony and living areas quite spacious. I am happy to say that throughout the week there were no cockroaches found within our apartment, although there were a few ants that were dealt with by use of an insect spray.
We arrived on the Friday and by the Tuesday morning had not had the towels changed. On the Tuesday morning we complained at reception. We received an unreserved apology and assured that the maids, who do not work weekends, would be in that morning. They attended three days out of four following our complaint. The replacement towels were not brilliant white, but smelled fresh and clean.
Some of the highlights of our holiday were our dinner at El Molina Blanco, a lovely Windmill restaurant not far from the Apartment. A more expensive night but worth it for the extra special atmosphere. There is a beautiful parrot near the entrance and the restaurant itself is Spanish/Sub-Tropical in decor with live music playing most or every night.
Another special eating place is the Rodeo Restaurant, a taxi ride away from the apartment. The most fantastic and extensive buffet that you can help yourself to along with as much meat, (carved at your table) for 25 Euros approx. Another expensive evening, but fabulous with live music playing on the terrace.
We went on excursions on the Peter Pan boat to see the dolphins and whales. Fantastic, but this trip which left from Los Cristianos required us to wear warmer clothing than we had anticipated. Maybe it's because it was January, but I would recommend that you bring along with you warmer stuff such as fleeces and possibly trousers. It was extremely windy and chilly at times. We also visited Mount Teide, for which I would also recommend bringing along warm clothes. My poor husband had to purchase me trackies from the wee shop on the first stop up Mount Teide - I was frozen!!! We were on a jeep which is a fantastic way to see the sites, but with the roof pulled back during some of the excursion, it was extremely cold at times.
On more relaxing days, we just walked along Costa Adeje and Puerto Colon, basking in the beautiful sunshine, people watching, eating, and drinking. I said a million times to my husband "this is heaven.” Yes, there were scratch card touts and promotion people accosting us on a regular basis, a wee bit of a nuisance but did not detract from the holiday. There were African men selling their wares some of which we bought. They were found to be lovely and charming and when told that we had already bought some of these goods they seemed to take 'No' for an answer very well.
Overall, we had a fabulous time. This was our first time in Tenerife, indeed our first time on the Canary Islands. It is our intention to return.

Jan 2008, Mr T Westgte

Well!
We booked our holiday with 6 of us going with the pictures looking lovely and at a really cheap rate, we thought we had won one over on the rest of the people jetting off to Tenerife... We were wrong.
The most dingy pool area with no exotic drinks no cocktails and only one beer or a vending machine. Lots of annoying children and get told off for being to loud.
The aqua park was alright and we went there about 4/5 times in two weeks, as it was better than our pool. Some peoples doors were broken but ours wasn’t, had cold showers some mornings and other mornings normal. Even though the shower i had should be described as a drip. Nightlife amazing just shame the hotel will be remembered as a dump. I would only go back here if it had been bulldozed and rebuilt

Spent New Year in the Malibu, only...
6 / 10
Jan 2008, S Rodger

Spent New Year in the Malibu, only got last minute flights which cost a fortune so decided on here as it was pretty much budget. I've stayed here before (2005 & 2006 Xmas) and knew what to expect - you get what you pay for basically. That said though, this year even by Malibu's budget standard was poor, very poor.
Arrived at midnight to find a 6 month-pregnant woman crying as the wee guy at the desk (watch Fawlty Towers) trying to explain she was being sent somewhere else for a few days then can come back (midnight remember). When it was finally my check-in this little guy told me I wasn't on the list and there wasn't anything he could do, after 15 mins I looked at the list myself and my bloody name was right in front of him! My surname only has 6 letters and he's looking at my passport! argh! Then there was a 40 minute shouting match between the wee guy on the desk and the janitor/handyman as there was no key available, this got very heated which didn't particularly bother me but my girlfriend was beginning to feel uncomfortable at which point required a bit of assertiveness to get them to sort it out.
I'm not a complainer, in fact this is the first time I've ever done this kind of thing but the week was annoying, I heard of at least 3 break-ins when I was there, you have to jam a piece of wood on the patio-door so no one can get in if the tiny snib gets burst open (which my 5 yr old nephew could do). I'm not questioning its effectiveness but surely in this day and age your place should be secure without sticking a bit of wood in the door slide. Maids only came twice in the week, bins were lying piling up, no loo roll, no towels, tv wasn't working...
The most irritating thing about the Malibu is that it wouldn't take much to get it up to a moderate budget standard, its nicely located for me (enjoy the walk up and down the hill - work of some of the beer and pizza), it has a nice pool area with palm trees etc.. all over in fact. I think its a nice complex, if you request a front room which there is plenty, you have sunshine from 9 in the morning till it disappears at night. The waterpark is literally a 30 second walk - the place is just grossly mismanaged IMO, screaming out for a decent general manager to get rid of all the stupid little things that have endless lines of complaints at the rep desk. Its a nice bright place with spacious rooms, and although there seem to be plenty of maintenance folk around they prioritise with nonsense concrete finishing etc on walls that no one even goes near.
Like I say, I'll still give it 6/10 - its definitely affordable, central, bright, spacious with a nice pool area and plenty beds but it needs a change of management to get it up to a standard that its not p*****g you off every day in every department.

Jan 2008, Miss W Armstrong

If I could rate this 0 out of 10 I would.
Booked this holiday Feb 07 for my partner, myself and 2 year old. Arrived 25th Dec 07. Talk about modern day nativity - ever heard expression 'no room at the inn?'.
In 4 hours we sat at reception with 3 suitcases, buggy and hand luggage, waiting to be told where we were staying for night, no less than 7 people appeared at reception with complaints.
Another expression I could use is 'less is more' - based on this I will say no more than - do not under any circumstances book a holiday with either Jumbo or at Malibu Park!

Just spent two weeks at the Malibu...
9 / 10
Jan 2008, Ms H Edwards

Just spent two weeks at the Malibu Park over Christmas; there were 8 of us, ranging from 12 to 48 yrs. We were slightly concerned after reading some of the reviews but have to say thought the apartments and the staff were wonderful. We saw a couple of cockroaches in the apartment, 3 in the space of two weeks, not bad. The apartments were cleaned every day Monday to Friday but not at weekend. Had clean towels and bed linen every day.
Staff were very friendly although not always quick at doing what you asked but that is the way in Tenerife.
Overall we had a fab time and all our party decided that some people pay 3 star prices and expect 5 star quality. The old saying is true - you get what you pay for.

Upon reading reviews for this resort...
2 / 10
Dec 2007, Miss M M

Upon reading reviews for this resort I was worried to say the least.
I went into our holiday with an open mind and hoping for the best. I was to be most disappointed. We arrived late afternoon and were booked in by a grumpy receptionist who gave us directions to our room, which were basic to say the least; it took us ages to find our accommodation.
We were situated in a good location with a pool view but as far as good points this was to the only one.
The room was not clean, and self catering facilities were an absolute joke. We were given a cot for my youngest daughter which looked at least 30 years old.
Security was nonexistent and our patio doors which may I add backed straight onto the pool had no lock whatsoever. I reported this to the rep to no avail and after a week’s worth of moaning it had not been repaired.
There was a bar on site which was not owned by Malibu (they actually have nothing onsite other than the pool) which was pants, boring as hell and extortionately priced.
Food was crap (don't waste your time/money there).
Staff were rude, most didn't understand English and unhelpful.
My advice to anyone who is thinking of booking here is doing bother. Anyone who already has Good Luck to you.
I would return to Tenerife but wouldn't never to this hotel.

Well I have just returned from one...
5 / 10
Nov 2007, Mrs D Sharp

Well I have just returned from one week at Malibu Apartments. I had read the reviews before I left but was hoping that Thomas Cook couldn't be that bad! On arrival the receptionist was very rude and unwelcoming. She gave us a key to our room and pointed in some direction and we got totally lost, in the end a fellow holiday maker guided us to our apartment, which I may add we never would have found on our own as the place is a total maze.
The apartment itself was very run-down and basic, some of the lights never worked in the apartment and it took us a day or two to work out the security, good job the first thing we did was hire the safe out for our room. We had cockroaches most nights and we even resorted to putting towels under the doorways to help to prevent them. The sofa bed in the lounge was broken and we had maid service three times for the whole week. The bed sheets were never changed and the maid kept leaving clean towels in the leaking bidet so we had to keep going back to reception with dripping towels to change them. The only reason we never asked to be changed was that we gave the place a good clean ourselves and the view over the waterpark with the dolphins was amazing.
The pool area we found to be clean and the bar very reasonable, the staff in there were really lovely. Everyone was friendly and there was the most amazing restaurant nearby called El Blanco (cant miss it, huge great windmill outside it). The food and the atmosphere was amazing, I would recommend that you book the day before and ask for a seat at the front as at the end of the evening the chef comes out to sing. It really is the most beautiful place, it was a bit pricey so I would leave it till the end of the week. Another great place to eat was at Hugh Pizza and Italian place, you come down the lift at the back of the apartments and you cant miss it.
Loro Parque is also a must and try and go out on freebird one, I would not book with the reps as they really do rip you off, so go down to the seafront and shop around.
We really had a fantastic holiday and it is the most beautiful place with loads to do. Unfortunately I feel really let down by Thomas Cook and I am in the the process of writing a complaint. I have never complained before and I am an easy going person but the apartment was really bad.
I am going back again next year but definitely not to Malibu Park and not with Thomas Cook! Oh yes, one more thing do not fall for the scratch card people who tell you they are not timeshare but a internet holiday company. Its a HUGE CON!!!

After reading all the reviews about...
9 / 10
Nov 2007, Miss Lewis

After reading all the reviews about Malibu Park we had second thoughts about going but we are now glad we never.
The room was clean and tidy. They cleaned everyday and we had fresh towels everyday as well!
The pool was quite everyday so always managed to get a sunbed!
The accommodation staff were friendly and helpful as well as Thomas cooks reps.
Was quite due to the time being just before the holiday season but met a good group of Scots lads! (You know who you are!)
All the little places below the apartments were good for eating, especially if you love a good English breakfast! Really cheap and good food too!
The water park was right below the apartments and good for a day out!
A short walk over the motorway bridge there were plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. A really good Irish bar if you want a laugh and a good Chinese a bit further down, works out all you can eat for £5!
Would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap self catering holiday!

Thomas Cook should be ashamed to...
1 / 10
Nov 2007, Mrs S Curry

Thomas Cook should be ashamed to include this accommodation in its brochure. We arrived at 2am with 4 other family's and left with the same 4 families at 5am having frantically called in the Thomas cook reps to save us.
3 star accomodation this is not. This apartment gave us all the creeps! Especially when we saw the filthy state of the bathroom, sofa bed and freezer in the fridge (it badly needed defrosted and still had food stuck to ice).
There were no staff at reception apart from security guards who did not understand english and shrugged when asked for help.
The reps did eventually sort all families concerned with alternative accomodation but not without causing considerable stress and for some extra cost.
