Interior Room aka Twilight Zone
6 / 10
Jul 2011, Frankie

Holiday apartment was sold as "Interior room with no view" as in sea or mountain. That would not have been a problem if we could have set out on the balcony. However, a better description would have been "room with a balcony that receives no natural light be it daylight or sunlight. We had to keep the electric lights on within the apartment from AM to PM to be able to see which resulted in having to keep the curtains closed for some privacy hence the "twilight zone". I would advise anyone who has booked an interior room to check if they can change it.

We have been holidaying at SunsetBeach Club since 1987. We find the resort has everything we need for a good holiday. we have witnessed changes over the years all for the better. We have now being going so often that we meet up with the same crowd of people each year and that adds to the enjoyment of the holiday. The entertainment is first class. i have been for 3 weeks this june and look forward to a winter break there at end of year. The staff are all very helpful. Well done sunset Beach !!!!

5 Wonderful Days at the Sunset Beach Club Resort

We were given a room on the 10th floor with excellent views of the sea. The room exceeded our expectations and we especially liked the long bath (I'm 6ft 4" tall) and the spacious balcony. The staff friendly and helpful, the food and entertainment at a very high standard especially in the Oasis Restaurant situated by the pools facing the sea. A Buffet Breakfast is available from 6 euros a day if you buy 5 days worth, a good selection including Chocolate Croissants. Benalmedena has plenty to offer including good value supermarkets if you are looking to buy food and beer, we enjoyed excellent food including Italian, Indian (at the Milan 10/10) and Chinese (The Wok in Arroyo). I also highly recommend drinking Estrella Galicia as it is simply one of the best lagers available. We like it so much that we are getting married there next year.

Just got back from Sunset Beach Club and wanted to share our wonderful experience with others. For us,as a couple, everything was perfect. We went to Costa del Sol,for sun &relaxation, and we had a fantastic time @ Sunset Beach Club.Room was excellent,1 bedroom apartment on the 13th floor, with an amazing sea view.Restaurant used for b'fast and diner only when bad wheater, usualy the outdoor restaurant used for dinner. We have chosen half board, excellent b'fast choices and evening meals.Dinner was served at the table not buffet style and menus were changed daily.Staff very eficient and polite. We have been to Spain before, diferent regions, however our stay at The Sunset Beach Club was the best so far for Spain. The hotel offers everything and you can do as much or little you want.It is also located in a very convenient distance from the airport,bus/taxi stops and town centre(5 minutes walk). We would like to recomend it to others.

  • Advice: if we go back to Costa del Sol,Benalmadena,we will stay only in this hotel

Just back from holidays in Benalmedina in Spain. Stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. Got a taxi from Malaga airport and on the arrival to the hotel got literally robbed by a taxi driver - paid eur40 for the journey. I asked the hotel staff if that what right (taxi was already gone) and they called the taxi company straight away and told them to get the money back (it cost eur25-28). Got eur13 on the next morning. I found it very surprisingly helpful. Rooms are very tidy, towels being changed daily. If you want to get a room with a view get one with sea view (rooms with mountain view face the main street as far as i know). And if you getting a room on the 5th floor MAKE sure that the room is NOT right under the bar (we stayed in room no.563 and couldn't sleep till 0230(bar closing time 0200) because the noise of people moving chairs is just unreal). went to reception in the morning and got another room the same noon no problem. there is a shop, hair salon, gym, atm machine in the hotel. restaurant are nearby (try the Santa Anna at the windmill roundabout). If you want to do some shopping go to Torremolinos (eur8-10 by taxi) - some great shops there. I hope you found this helpful.

My family (hubby, me and two adult daughters) have just returned from a brilliant week at the Sunset Beach Club. The hotel has a multitude of facilities set out on its many storeys. It's busy, but that didn't create any problems.
Set on a cliff, you may think this would be problematic for those with mobility problems.....not so....I am disabled and need sticks to walk around and I found that I could do everything I can here at home in Blighty. The road and hotel main entrance are at Level 6 and you can take the lift down to the ground floor to access the short promenade that the hotel have had made that leads straight onto the two beaches. You can get to the main promenade down a short incline and from there you can get all the way to the Marina (about 2-3 miles) without climbing a single step. Avoid the steep road to the east side of the hotel unless you're fit as a fiddle...this is ironically nicknamed Cardiac Hill and our room overlooked this (along with a beautiful stretch of sea, sand and mountains) and on the first day of our holiday we witnessed a poor lady being taken off in an ambulance after having a suspected heart attack!
The food we ate in the restaurant was very good, although a bit expensive... this was exacerbated by the poor exchange rate.
The entertainment was good...a daytime programme and a few evening venues, from relaxing at the outdoor Oasis restaurant listening to a pianist or singer, to watching the boisterous shows in the Moonlight Bar.

  • Advice: Suitable for either a quiet, relaxing break or a more energetic fun time.
  • Activities: We loved the marina.

A Great Place To Stay

Just returned from a weeks holiday in this splendid hotel. Didn't expect to be so impressed. But it has great facilities and is very well appointed. We were on the 11th floor with great views of the mountains. The apartment was perfect for us, clean and very comfortable. Staff were always helpful and courteous.
We had a couple of meals in the Hotel restaurant, tasty and good value for money.
The Hotel supermarket was also a pleasant surprise too, extremely well stocked with the choice to purchase smaller amounts. Useful if your only staying a week.
Benalmadena itself has a nice atmosphere. A beautiful park maintained to a high standard, with varied animal life. And if you don't want to drive then there are plenty of excursions available from the leisure desk within the Hotel. But if you don't want that, then there is a local bus stopping near the Hotel regularly too.
The Hotel is a good base for exploring around or just relaxing in the sun, the choice is yours.
We should have had more then a week, but I'm pleased to say that we have booked two weeks for next year.
I'm so glad that I wasn't put off buy some of the negative reviews that I read. But then you cannot please everybody!!

This hotel is wonderful , any one who has booked to go here and been put off by other comment on here dont need to worry - I wonder myself what these people want who are complaining. I am also very very fussy when it comes to accomodation and will not stay anywhere dirty but this hotel is out of this world the veiws from out hotel balcony were amazing - I am usually ready to go home by the end of the week but I really did not want to leave.
I went with my partner and my 2 year old duaghter who loved it also - we use to go down to the pool in the morning - which there were 3 in total ( a small one for children which was great as they could stand up in it and play with there balls and floats) there was entertainment on in the day around the pool and activities. There was always lots of sunbeds to chose from so there was no getting up early just to make sure you had one - we use to come down at 1130 nearly everyday and was still able to choose where we would like to retreat.
There is a fantastic playing area for the Kiddies right near the sunloungers so this was the best thing i personally felt the hotel offered as it gave the adults time to relax and enjoy the sun whilst the kiddies played right in front of us - it was so relaxing - and put our minds at rest as we could see them playing all the time.
The hotel does have entertainment at night but you do have to pay for this - it would be better if the hotel offered some free entertainment perhaps in one of the many bars it offers.
We never tried any of the resturants in the hotel and they did look a bit over pricey - but due to us going to belamandina quite a few times and having family there we know of a few good resturantes only a few mins away from the hotel - we deffinatly recommend the orange tree , i think you may have to book as it does get over busy - its just near the windmill island.
The hotel was not noisy at all - there was a few people talking when going back to there rooms at night but honestly nothing over the top - people are on holiday so what do these people who give a bad review expect at all - our two year old daughter slept all night long with no problems from noise -.
The rooms are lovely and modern - and the veiw from our balcony was to die for - i would love to wake up to that everyday. The kitchen is a little small but who goes on holiday to cook?? not us anyway.
There is a supermarket on site which is big enough for anyone and offers a wide range of products.
All in all this was a fantastic holiday and would deffinatly go back to this hotel..
Were off to egypt next year though so will make reveiw on that when I return

We stayed here for 7 nights and on initial viewing thought it seemed very nice. Our small apartment was .... small!! We didn't spend an awful lot of time in it, just breakfast times then we were out. We had 2 previous weeks stays here and everything went ok. But on this stay, we began to realise that selling was a big point for the reps there. The guy who bugged us constantly was called Mark...we eventually signed up (£2,500) for a weeks stay. THEY ARE ALL IN CAHOOTS TOGETHER. Don't go there!! You might well say "well we won't sign up, just enjoy the holiday". They are VERY PUSHY to the point of being in your face (or they were). Quite a noisy place aswell, food not great and you had to set the alarm to get down a grab a sunbed...not my idea of a great relaxing holiday.

WARNING Please don't purchase a timeshare. Sounds great at the time but we have had no end of problems. AND don't accept offers to sell when companies phone you at home offering to sell the timeshare. We foolishly paid 1300 Euros to a company called Greystone Leisure and Travel who said they had a buyer. That was in February. Their phone has since gone dead and not replying to emails. Many companies have phoned us offering to sell the timeshare but I believe unfortunately they are all part of the same scam we read about in the newspapers in the U.K

Booked above apartment through Freedom Direct last year. On arriving at the apartment (with booking reference supplied by Freedom Direct) around 2.00 am were informed by hotel receptionist that there wasn't a room booked for us and that the booking reference produced by us meant nothing to them. After a couple of hours in reception we were given a room for the night but informed that we would have to vacate the following morning and look for alternative accommodation. There was no reply to telephone calls to the company's office made by the receptionist at that time and also by the hotel staff on Sunday morning.
We therefore emailed Freedom Direct and received a reply stating that we were to look for alternative accommodation and they would reimburse us. Booking alternative accommodation in the height of the season was no easy task as the hotel staff informed us on the Sunday morning that all the hotels he contacted were fully booked up. This left us with nowhere to stay on the Monday. We did finally book again for the same apartments via email and we continued our holiday. No compensation has been forthcoming from Freedom Direct and they have informed us the matter is now closed. I would therefore never recommend this holiday company. Our holiday was for three days completely ruined due to the stress of possibly finding a flight home.
