Hotel Description:

The Sun Beach Resort Complex is the ideal hotel for those seeking a relaxing holiday, and is suitable for couples and small families alike. Situated on the edge of Ialyssos, its beautiful gardens lead down to the shingle beach. Conveniently located on the north-west side of the island, it is about 1 km from Ialyssos centre, 9 km from Rhodes town with its magnificent medieval city, and 9 km from the islands International airport. Because of the proximity to the airport some aircraft noise may be heard.

" Wonderful "

Just got back from a week at the sun beach and really enjoyed.
Being a travel agent ive been fortunate enough to stay at some fab hotels around the world so im pretty good when it comes to grading, as far as a self catering option i would def rate this a 4* especially in greece. We were lucky to be in block 2 on the beach, 2 bed suite apartment with sea view, we had a kettle and toaster, coffee maker, thats excellent for greece!!Apartment was spotless, cleaned daily. There were 3 pools in oour block, 2 for children, 1 of them having slides, there was a daily animation team there for children too. We didnt use the restaurants as we like to go out to eat but they always seemed busy and may be a good option as the resort is quite pricey! The location was wonderful, right on the beach, with lovely gardens and a pool bar.
Im still laughing at the comments from previous rater, bed bugs??? i got bitten to death and it was from mosquitoes, theyre kind enough to leave air con on most of time and unfortunately with air con comes the mossies, doesnt matter how prepared you are they still bite!!Ther were lots of germans but go anywhere in hot areas in europe especially sep/oct and its swarmed with germans, 1 good thing is though where germans stay usually lets us know its good quality!!!...The resort is right on your doorstep with lots of little shops, bars and restaurants but still seems quite low key. 10 mins in a taxi will take you to Rhodes town (approx 11 euro), faliraki (approx 17 euro) lindos (approx 45 euro) well worth hiring a car. Old town of rhodes was one of the nicest harbour towns ive ever visited but very expensive!!..I loved my stay at sun beach and will be returning.

" diabolical "

The reception greets you looking fantastic, the service was quick and easy, the room at first sight was great, plenty of space, brilliant view. Then it starts to go downhill, my wife and I were bitten throughout the night by bed bugs, when reported to the reception we were told it was mosquito's this was not possible as we were protected by everything imaginable in the room and on our bodies. we later found out that our room was not the only one with a bed problem. The meals were edible but the choice was minimal, there were no sweets for after dinner except ice cream or fruit, most of the time the food was warm but cold by the time you got to the end of your plate. we ate out more then in. The place is a haven for German tourists, who in my opinion are the mose arogant and rude people about, there were 10 english in our hotel and 4 were in our party, the rest were Dutch, Danish and Germans, the Dutch and Danish were frindly happy people the Germans were rude and talked about us all the time, what they did not know was that one of our party spoke some German and we knew what they were saying. How this can be described as a 4 star is beyond me it was 2 star at the best, the management were not interested in our complaints, the receptionists were rude and did not care, we will definately not go there again. I used to ignore reviews and preferred to make up my own mind. but after this I will check them out before booking in future. Ignore this at your peril.

Advice: IALLYSOS WAS GREAT NICE PLACE NICE PEOPLE

Activities: A great Greek restaurant playing Greek and English music, frindly and food fantastic

" Have just got back from 2 weeks at... "

Have just got back from 2 weeks at the Sun Beach 2 hotel complex.

The complex is made up of 3 buildings sun beach 1 being next to the beach (60 yards)
Sun beach 2 just over the road and 200 yards from the beach with sun beach 3 or club holiday.

Sun beach 2 is definitely the best all have very good pools. Sun beds hard to get towels on most by 7-00 o clock. Rooms big and very clean and staff very nice and helpful.

Entertainment excellent some very good shows put on. Did not use hotel restaurant like to walk around and see all the other restaurant and bars before picking one. All very good did not have one bad meal.

The beach is very good bit stony you need crocs to walk far. The water can be a bit rough wavers blown up by the wind. Sun beds only $3 a day getting about can hire a car but very hard to park any were use taxes, Driver may even take you around on a good tour.

A must is a night time trip to Rhodes old town for shopping and a very good local meal.

All in all had a very very good holiday. Weather very hot 27 -32.

" Just returned from our second spell... "

Just returned from our second spell at Sun Beach. The place is just brilliant. The location is fantastic for families. A minute from the beach.

Enough bars and restaurants without it being overcrowded.

The staff at the hotel are all very friendly and are always polite.

The animation team are amazing and keep everyone entertained from morning to night. Special thanks to Nikki, Paolo, Anis, and Judith.

They have a kids club which is very good.

The hotel is also very clean and has a clean, safe playground for the smaller children.

" Just came back from holiday a day ago... "

Just came back from holiday a day ago 4 adults and 2 children aged 7 and 12.

The apartments were ideal very clean and staff were great, we are planning on going back next year at the same time.

This was our first time in Greece and we were there for a wedding, everywhere we went in Greece was spot on. I would recommend the waterpark in Faliraki.

Prices are reasonable, thank you for a great holiday.

" We have just come back after staying... "

We have just come back after staying for one week we wished it was longer!

The Sun Beach is very clean and the staff are friendly. My two children aged 10 went to the daily kid zone club and had a great time!

Pools great just watch little ones near large pool only a very small section is shallow.
They have two other pools for kids.

Beach is amazing we loved to go at 8.15 p.m. to watch the sun go down over Turkey!

Sea is a bit rough so caught a taxi to Kalithea beach brill for snorkelling, taxi cost 15 Euros to get there it would take 2 buses and as is was so hot was worth it.

Must go to Rhodes town also take the boat trip to Lindos great for snorkelling. Hotel activities are good fun they get you involved we all played darts everyday so had to buy a dart board when we got back!

" We visited this resort through RCI -... "

We visited this resort through RCI - a timeshare exchange company. The hotel complex is made up of three different blocks. Sun Beach Hotel (over the road), Aparthotel & Private Timeshare Apartments and a separate block for Club Greece Vacation Club members.

Took a taxi to the resort – 11 Euro.

On arrival were very impressed with the reception area. It looks very modern and clean. The reception staff are very helpful and pleasant and we were in our room within about 10 mins at the most. You are asked for your passports, but were not asked to fill out a registration form or to give a deposit.

On arriving in the apartment (#220), we thought it was very basic, even for Greece.

Lounge/dining: Décor pale blue and grey. Table and four chairs, ‘L’ shaped bed configuration – suitable for small children or maybe teenagers only. No cushions – just the beds. Small coffee table and even smaller side table. TV (CNN, BBC World, Sky News only) situated on a shelf next to the microwave. Old fashioned air conditioning floor unit. Patio doors to balcony.

Small area adjacent to kitchen: Housed two double wardrobes, one had 3 large drawers underneath and housed the safe.

Kitchen: Very basic (info sheets states partial kitchen). Basic welcome pack, consisting of 4 of each sugar, tea bags, coffee, milk, 1 litre of water. Old fashioned two ring hob that was useless. Modern, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. Basic utensils, but enough if you did not intend to self cater (good enough quality). Cutlery/glasses – 4 of the usual items. In my opinion you would be hard pressed to cook a family meal. We had difficulty in getting the water to boil for an egg. Could have used the microwave, but I get lazy on holiday. Requires a complete refurb.

Bedroom: Adequate size and décor blue/grey again to match the lounge. Double bed – quite low down – 2 bedside tables, with drawers & alarm/radio, dressing table (with plug for hair dryer)/stool and another two drawer unit that you could put your suitcases on. Patio doors to balcony. Old fashioned floor standing air conditioning unit that was noisy.

Bathroom: Very dated and small. Wash hand basin with shelf above, toilet, narrow bath with shower curtain and dated shower attachment. The shower jet was good and there was always hot water. There was a tiled shelf at the back of the toilet where you could store toiletries etc. Would benefit from a complete refurb?

Balcony/view: Large sunny balcony with an excellent view and the sunsets were fantastic. This made up for the dated apartment and is what made us stay in this room. One very small table (suitable for 1 to eat off) and four chairs -reasonably modern and new. Noticed that some people took out the apartment table and chairs to use.

Maid service: Every day. Towels changed every other day and bed linen every 3 days. Very pleasant lady.

Pool towels: Available at reception for 2 Euro each. Can be changed as many times as you like for no extra charge.

Safe: 21 Euro for two weeks

Swimming pool areas: Three pools, one is private and for the exclusive use of timeshare members comments as follows: The animation team came and asked each day if you were interested in darts, volleyball, pool games etc. There are children’s toys available – kept in two cupboards by the pool bar. Sun beds are free around the pool but 3 Euro each on the beach – these are more comfortable and you can sit right on the water’s edge.

Pool bar (Timeshare): Good with Happy Hour from 15.00 – 14.00 every day and reasonably priced. Lovely barbecue cooked by the pool every day – again reasonably priced.

Beach bar: Also good – only used it once though – can get beef burgers, pizza type food.

In your apartment you will find and an envelope with details of weekly entertainment, trips, car hire, language tips.

We did not attend the Welcome Meeting (Monday at 10.30am) or the Wine & Cheese (20.00 pm). Forgot about the Wine & Cheese or would have gone to this. On the night before we left (Tues) they had a beach barbecue that was 15 Euro/head (included drinks) - disco. This looked well attended and we had a good view from our balcony. As it was our last night we did not go, but would have done if it was our first week.

Club office: This is situated on the ground floor under the main reception area and is where you go if you have any problems. It is purely for Club Greece, CLC and RCI members. They are there to help you with any problems or questions you have. They will also arrange for you to have extra nights or an extension to your room (if you are on a late flight). They have also got a small library where you can swap books/mags. If you get there at the right time you may even get the current newspaper. The hairdressing salon is also situated on this floor.

For children: A small round pool next to the main club pool with two cupboards that housed various toys. The aparthotel pool had a fantastic aqua slide configuration in the pool and I have not seen anything so good before. A play area near the pool that had a large play house, climbing frame type of thing. I didn’t see a children’s club, but the info sheet stated that there was both children’s and adult activities organised.

Grounds: Clean and in good order. Grassy areas that go right down to the beach. Windsurfing is still popular and available on the pebble beach.

Laundry: No on-site launderette, but you can leave your laundry at the main reception. They give you a bag – charge is 7 Euro for 5 kilos/12 lb. Please be aware that they don’t iron it and it comes back very creased. The info sheet states that an iron can be requested, but some of the apartments did have a steam iron in them, but ours didn’t. One of club staff kindly obtained one for us as the one reception gave us was useless.

The complex is situated in a lovely setting, right on the beach. There are plenty of bars and tavernas close by, with a supermarket across the road (run by the hotel). One of our favourites with called ‘The House’ and was to the right as you left the complex. Very cheap and friendly, with a typical Greek atmosphere. Huge portions though and you always got a few extras after your meal. To the left you will find lots and lots of shops, tavernas and bars. It is quite a big resort and three are many more shops and tavernas in the main town area, which is approx 10 -15 mins walk.

We were taken to lunch at the Dionysos restaurant, which is a la cart in the evening, but a relaxing snack bar during the day (by the aparthotel pool). It was very good, especially as we didn’t pay for it! In all there are five different places to eat within the complex and you can opt for a meal plan offer. We opted to eat out as this is the reason we like timeshare.

Trips and sightseeing:

Rhodes Town – day and night is a must – bus service runs from the hotel 4 times per day there and back (not that frequent). It’s fantastic and I am sure you don’t need me to tell you about the old town. At night the place takes on an entirely different atmosphere will a huge selection of tavernas, shops and bars. Much more expensive than Ialyssos, but well worth it. Explore the back street for more authentic Greek places to eat. There is also a thriving trendy area that is frequented by the movers and shakers of the town – some of the bars in this area have hubble bubble pipes – not tried these of course being a non-smoker! Not sure what was in them but it smelled suspicious. All in good taste and nothing seedy about it.

The New Town is fantastic for designer goods and they even have an M&S, but we didn’t go in, so don’t know what it was like. This area has a very notorious bar street that belts out the latest disco sounds all night – didn’t go, but was told about it. A taxi is 8 Euro each way – reception will order one, although you pay 1 Euro more for the privilege. In addition to the bus from the hotel you can get buses that stop in the town every 15 mins or so from the bus terminus, but you have to walk approx ¼ mile to the hotel complex. The hotel bus drops you off at the terminus.

We hired a car for 3 days from the rental desk at reception. They were doing 3 days for the price of 2 and was comparable with outside car hire firms (80 Euros included insurance). Take the car back with the tank as you found it. Cars weren’t marvelous but okay. Very pleasant and helpful man in charge. Visited Lindos, Old Kamiros, New Kamiros and Symi Island. Did one side of the island one day and the other on the second day, stopping off anywhere that looked interesting. The third day we just flopped at a small secluded crescent shaped bay at New Kamiros., Here you will find two tavernas that serve lunch and drinks – both very good.

To sum up our feelings -this is the first time we have not been happy with our accommodation, since we have been using timeshare, but this did not stop us from having a lovely holiday. All staff are friendly and helpful and seem to want you to have a good time. The hotel and hotel apartments had all been recently renovated to a good standard, and can be booked via UK tour operators – Skytours was one of the ones we noticed. Usually it is timeshare accommodation that is the better option, but not this time.

This is our third visit to Rhodes and the area of Ialyssos is very pleasant. Having stayed in Ixia previously, Ialyssos is the better of the two, although further away from Rhodes Town. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would go back sometime in the future. This side of the island gets a good wind that makes it slightly cooler than the other side, but still very hot. The Lindos side can be unbearable at this time of year.

Note: The mozzies are particularly vicious here. Don’t do as I did and went out on the first night without putting any spray on and got about 30 bites on my legs. Terry got bitten as well but not as bad as me. After that I made sure I sprayed my legs each evening. The second week they must have got used to us as we only had an occasional one. I don’t usually get bitten and it came as a surprise to me. There are plenty of sprays and bite creams available in the supermarkets at reasonable prices.

" I travelled with my two children, 12... "

I travelled with my two children, 12 and 15 years, along with a friend and her son. When we arrived at the complex, we were amazed at the standard of the facilities. Everything was immaculate, clean, spacious, modern and well equipped.

Every room had a balcony, the rooms are cleaned every day, and the air conditioning was appreciated!
The pool was ideal for families, and entertainment was provided daily. Trianda has lots to offer, and there are no tacky nightclubs with drunken yobs falling about. It is an ideal family resort with lots to see and Rhodes is a short distance away by bus or taxi.
There are plenty of eating places and supermarkets. We found the taverna - “Greek land” was great for food and Greek music, as well as the staff making us all feel very welcome and by the end of the holiday we felt like old friends with them all!

I would have no doubt about booking again - and I am looking at prices for next year - travelling on my own with the children there would cause me no worries.

It is rated as 4 star - but in our opinion it was more 5 star - A fantastic holiday - non-stop sunshine and a great place to stay

" If you are looking for a traditional... "

If you are looking for a traditional Greek holiday, Trianda is not the place to go. The resort is almost a made up holiday complex.
Myself and my family stayed in sunbeach 1. The apartments were very clean with good self catering facilities.
We arrived at Sun Beach at 3am in the morning. Due to us having a young child we tried everywhere to get him a drink, eventually we asked reception and were told that there was no where to get a drink and would have to drink tap water.
It was almost impossible to get a sunbed by the pool. Although I have heard of the towel war with Germans, until this holiday I had never experienced it. Germans put towels down from 2am in the morning and on many mornings English towels were thrown in the pool or thrown unable to be found again. We felt very intimidated by the Germans and found it virtually impossible to sit by the pool.

During our two-week stay we witnessed many arguments between German and English about the towels. One family from Scotland had a family of five and for the whole two weeks were unable to get one sunbed between them. I could go on about this but if you have paid for a pool holiday you should be able to get a sunbed.
We also found a problem with the children’s pool as in the middle was a rock fountain which obstructed your view of your child.
We met a few people over there and they and ourselves had not been able to eat in the restaurant as the men have to wear trousers, this wasn’t in the brochure, most of the men had only brought shorts.
The animation was very poor and of a sexual nature which as this had been booked as a family holiday with family entertainment was completely unacceptable.
If you are unfortunate enough to go Knights of Olde Restaurant is worth a visit, Very friendly, good food, beautiful garden run by a Scottish lady and her Greek husband.
" We stayed at the brilliant self... "

We stayed at the brilliant self catering apartments just across the road from sun beach 1, it was approx. 100 m from the shingle beach. There was none aeroplane noise heard. It was 9 km from the Ancient historic Rhodes Town. We went a day trip to Lindos and if your going to Trianda it is a must !

They do donkey rides up and down the castle and there is a watersport centre on the small beach the Lindos were you get off of the boat. In Trianda we hired out a quad for 4 hours from Albatross moto rentals and all you need is your driving license. There is a brilliant Internet cafe, restaurant and bar in the one called patties. It is just at the end of the road just along from the forum beach hotel. It has about the beast pool table around aswell !! The best restraunts in Trianda was Irene’s family restraunts and the staff are very very friendly. The two waiters are called Stavros and Mikos.
At the Sun Beach 1 and 2 resorts there is a beach party every Tuesday evening. The entertainment is on in Sun Beach 1.

The Water Park at Falaraki is a must for young families !!
The top 5 rides are 1- The Space Bowl, 2- Stingray Slide
3- FreeFaller 2 .4- FreeFaller 1 .5- Kamikazi Turbo.

People in Trianda are very friendly !

" Just returned from the best holiday... "

Just returned from the best holiday ever. We stayed at Sun Beach 2 which is situated just across a quite road from Sun Beach 1. The room (studio for 3) overlooked the pool (as did most) and was on the 3rd floor (our front door faced the lift). The rooms were cleaned every day and the bed linen and towels were changed every day (7 days)

The rooms were very well equipped with microwave, toaster, electric kettle and cooker although we eat out every meal mostly at the Navarna bar (about 500 mts towards the resort centre) or at Molly’s bar (about another 200 mts further on). The food at the pool bar and restaurant were good value and nice although the drinks were expensive (its far cheaper to purchase drinks from the attached supermarket, 2.5 euros for a glass of coke at the pool bar, 0.8 euros for a bottle of coke at the supermarket).
The best part of Sun Beach for me, my wife and 10 year old grand-daughter was the animation team, they kept us entertained from 10 am till 11 pm, there is always something going on and the shows they put on in the nights were outstanding (1 or 2 jokes were near the knuckle for younger children but bearing in mind the show didn’t start till 10pm there weren’t many young children there). Its fair to say the animation team kept Sun beach 1 and 2 on its toes all day every day.
The attached supermarket is a bit pricey but there is a cheaper one just up the road (Splash supermarket).
We pre-hired a car with the tour operator for 14 days and only used it about 5 times. (There was so much to do at Sun Beach)
We will certainly be returning to Sun Beach and I can honestly say I have never enjoyed myself so much.

" Sun beach resort was a great place to... "

Sun beach resort was a great place to stay, we had a one bedroom self catering apartment that was beautiful and cleaned daily by staff

Power showers (hot all day) fridge ,microwave, toaster, kettle, hairdryer, iron and board.

Our apartment over looked the pool and beach and wasn’t at all noisy.

There were wine & cheese tasting night on Monday, Greek night Wednesday, BBQ and cabaret Thursday and the unforgettable Elvis tribute on sat.(looked nothing like him and sounded nothing like him and sang Tina turner a great giggle and anyone was invited to sing a long with him.

I was a guest of club Greece, on my first holiday with them. the reps were amazing and called me when I arrived home to check my family had returned safely and also had a bouquet on my return home from them.

The town itself was smashing, not much entertainment but had plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from.

** molly’s bar** was the best in town to eat English food, Heinz beans best bacon ,everything you expect at home, and more than ample portions, please go and see Simon, dean and Julia for a warm and friendly welcome ,can’t forget to mention that they have cold Stella on draught!!!

The Yorkshire bar was a good place to go after you leave molly’s (50ft away) great music from 60's,70's 8o's and you can sing on the stage too, but please be aware .the bar itself is clean but the toilets are absolutely discussing ,we had to leave when these facilities were needed!!!!!!!!!
