Lovely complex on the beach at Ialyssos.
from wilsonjenny
HOLIDAY DATE: 28.6.06 – 12.7.06 We visited this resort through RCI - a timeshare exchange company. The hotel complex is made up of three different blocks. Sun Beach Hotel (over the road), Aparthotel & Private Timeshare Apartments and a separate block for Club Greece Vacation Club members. Took a taxi to the resort – 11 Euro. On arrival were very impressed with the reception area. It looks very modern and clean. The reception staff are very helpful and pleasant and we were in our room within about 10 mins at the most. You are asked for your passports, but were not asked to fill out a registration form or to give a deposit. On arriving in the apartment (#220), we thought it was very basic, even for Greece. LOUNGE/DINING: Décor pale blue and grey. Table and four chairs, ‘L’ shaped bed configuration – suitable for small children or maybe teenagers only. No cushions – just the beds. Small coffee table and even smaller side table. TV (CNN, BBC World, Sky News only) situated on a shelf next to the microwave. Old fashioned air conditioning floor unit. Patio doors to balcony. SMALL AREA ADJACENT TO KITCHEN: Housed two double wardrobes, one had 3 large drawers underneath and housed the safe. KITCHEN: Very basic (info sheets states partial kitchen). Basic welcome pack, consisting of 4 of each sugar, tea bags, coffee, milk, 1 litre of water. Old fashioned two ring hob that was useless. Modern, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. Basic utensils, but enough if you did not intend to self cater (good enough quality). Cutlery/glasses – 4 of the usual items. In my opinion you would be hard pressed to cook a family meal. We had difficulty in getting the water to boil for an egg. Could have used the microwave, but I get lazy on holiday. Requires a complete refurb. BEDROOM: Adequate size and décor blue/grey again to match the lounge. Double bed – quite low down – 2 bedside tables, with drawers & alarm/radio, dressing table (with plug for hair dryer)/stool and another two drawer unit that you could put your suitcases on. Patio doors to balcony. Old fashioned floor standing air conditioning unit that was noisy. BATHROOM: Very dated and small. Wash hand basin with shelf above, toilet, narrow bath with shower curtain and dated shower attachment. The shower jet was good and there was always hot water. There was a tiled shelf at the back of the toilet where you could store toiletries etc. Would benefit from a complete refurb? BALCONY/VIEW: Large sunny balcony with an excellent view and the sunsets were fantastic. This made up for the dated apartment and is what made us stay in this room. One very small table (suitable for 1 to eat off) and four chairs -reasonably modern and new. Noticed that some people took out the apartment table and chairs to use. MAID SERVICE: Every day. Towels changed every other day and bed linen every 3 days. Very pleasant lady. POOL TOWELS: Available at reception for 2 Euro each. Can be changed as many times as you like for no extra charge. SAFE: 21 Euro for two weeks SWIMMING POOL AREAS: Three pools, one is private and for the exclusive use of timeshare members comments as follows: The animation team came and asked each day if you were interested in darts, volleyball, pool games etc. There are children’s toys available – kept in two cupboards by the pool bar. Sunbeds are free around the pool but 3 Euro each on the beach – these are more comfortable and you can sit right on the water’s edge. POOL BAR (Timeshare) : Good with Happy Hour from 15.00 – 14.00 every day and reasonably priced. Lovely barbecue cooked by the pool every day – again reasonably priced. BEACH BAR: Also good – only used it once though – can get beefburgers, pizza type food. In your apartment you will find and an envelope with details of weekly entertainment, trips, car hire, language tips. On the night before we left (Tues) they had a beach barbecue that was 15 Euro/head (included drinks) - disco. This looked well attended and we had a good view from our balcony. As it was our last night we did not go, but would have done if it was our first week. CLUB OFFICE: This is situated on the ground floor under the main reception area and is where you go if you have any problems. It is purely for Club Greece, CLC and RCI members. They are there to help you with any problems or questions you have. They will also arrange for you to have extra nights or an extension to your room (if you are on a late flight). They have also got a small library where you can swop books/mags. If you get there at the right time you may even get the current newspaper. The hairdressing salon is also situated on this floor. FOR CHILDREN: A small round pool next to the main club pool with two cupboards that housed various toys. The aparthotel pool had a fantastic aqua slide configuration in the pool and I have not seen anything so good before. A play area near the pool that had a large play house, climbing frame type of thing. I didn’t see a children’s club, but the info sheet stated that there was both children’s and adult activities organised. GROUNDS: Clean and in good order. Grassy areas that go right down to the beach. Windsurfing is still popular and available on the pebble beach. LAUNDRY: No on-site launderette, but you can leave your laundry at the main reception. They give you a bag – charge is 7 Euro for 5 kilos/12 lb. Please be aware that they don’t iron it and it comes back very creased. The info sheet states that an iron can be requested, but some of the apartments did have a steam iron in them, but ours didn’t. One of club staff kindly obtained one for us as the one reception gave us was useless. The complex is situated in a lovely setting, right on the beach. There are plenty of bars and tavernas close by, with a supermarket across the road (run by the hotel). One of our favourites with called ‘The House’ and was to the right as you left the complex. Very cheap and friendly, with a typical Greek atmosphere. Huge portions though and you always got a few extras after your meal. To the left you will find lots and lots of shops, tavernas and bars, one of which is a new bar called Cavo Tango. It’s more expensive than some of the Greek tavernas – 6 Euros for a G & T and 4 Euros for a bottle of Mythos as against 4 Euros for a G & T in other bars. This bar is built to look like Oia in Santorini and has a fantastic atmosphere. It was definitely the ‘in’ place of the resort and the Greeks seemed to love it. I think they also own the Restaurant Pezouli that is just a few yards away from Cavo Tango – not a bad place to eat and again very nice interior (blue and white). Ialyssos is bigger than you think and there are many more shops and tavernas in the main town area, which is approx 10 -15 mins walk. We were taken to lunch at the Dionysos restaurant, which is a la cart in the evening, but a relaxing snack bar during the day (by the aparthotel pool). It was very good, especially as we didn’t pay for it! In all there are five different places to eat within the complex and you can opt for a meal plan offer. We opted to eat out as this is the reason we like timeshare. . TRIPS AND SIGHTSEEING: Rhodes Town – day and night is a must – bus service runs from the hotel 4 times per day there and back (not that frequent). It’s fantastic and I am sure you don’t need me to tell you about the old town. At night the place takes on an entirely different atmosphere will a huge selection of tavernas, shops and bars. Much more expensive than Ialyssos, but well worth it. Explore the back street for more authentic Greek places to eat. There is also a thriving trendy area that is frequented by the movers and shakers of the town – some of the bars in this area have hubble bubble pipes – not tried these of course being a non-smoker! Not sure what was in them but it smelt suspicious…… I was told that ‘pot’ is legal there, but I don’t know if this is true. All in good taste and nothing seedy about it. The New Town is fantastic for designer goods and they even have an M&S, but we didn’t go in, so don’t know what it was like. This area has a very notorious bar street that belts out the latest disco sounds all night – didn’t go, but was told about it. A taxi is 8 Euro each way – reception will order one, although you pay 1 Euro more for the privilege. In addition to the bus from the hotel you can get buses that stop in the town every 15 mins or so from the bus terminus, but you have to walk approx ¼ mile to the hotel complex. The hotel bus drops you off at the terminus. A trip on the ferry is a must to Symi, it is a lovely authentic Greek island and is 19 Euro each return. There are many different types of trips you can make to Symi and they all leave from the harbour in Rhodes Town not sure of the price of these. We hired a car for 3 days from the rental desk at reception. They were doing 3 days for the price of 2 and was comparable with outside car hire firms (80 Euros included insurance). Take the car back with the tank as you found it. Cars weren’t marvellous but okay. Very pleasant and helpful man in charge. Visited Lindos, Old Kamiros & New Kamiros. Did one side of the island one day and the other on the second day, stopping off anywhere that looked interesting. The third day we just flopped at a small secluded crescent shaped bay at New Kamiros, here you will find two tavernas that serve lunch and drinks – both very good. To sum up our feelings -this is the first time we have not been happy with our accommodation, since we have been using timeshare, but this did not stop us from having a lovely holiday. All staff are friendly and helpful and seem to want you to have a good time. The hotel and hotel apartments had all been recently renovated to a good standard, and can be booked via UK tour operators – Skytours was one of the ones we noticed. Usually it is timeshare accommodation that is the better option, but not this time. This is our third visit to Rhodes and the area of Ialyssos is very pleasant. Having stayed in Ixia previously, Ialyssos is the better of the two, although further away from Rhodes Town. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would go back sometime in the future. This side of the island gets a good wind that makes it slightly cooler than the other side, but still very hot. The Lindos side can be unbearable at this time of year. NOTE: The mozzies are particularly vicious here. Don’t do as I did and went out on the first night without putting any spray on and got about 30 bites on my legs. Terry got bitten as well but not as bad as me. After that I made sure I sprayed my legs each evening. The second week they must have got used to us as we only had an occasional one. I don’t usually get bitten and it came as a surprise to me. There are plenty of sprays and bite creams available in the supermarkets at reasonable prices.
Great holiday!

My partner and i visited the sun beach from 28th june - 12th july. The hotel itself was better than we were expecting. We stayed in a self catering studio in sun beach 2, although after a couple of days we booked breakfast at the hotel for the rest of our stay. The problem we found was that apart from the small shops/supermarkets there was nowhere to buy food to make a decent meal, the nearest morrisons or asda was in faliraki. All evening entertainment is held in sun beach two and is rather loud untill quite late into the evening as the adult entertainment doesn't start until 10pm. The room and hotel was spotless, very clean and tidy. Both swimming pools are very good, although it is hard to get a sunbed unless you are out there by 7am. Some equipment in the gym when we were there was broken, and so there was only a handfull of things we could use, also the jacuzzi and sauna are in a dingy basement and were out of order. Trianda is full of small taverna's and gift shops, still a nice quiet area but with lots of things to do. Make sure you visit the cactus resturant, the food is great and not over priced and staff are really kind and welcoming. Rhodes town is 9 euro's by taxi, and the location of the hotel is close to lots of attractions. If travelling with thomson, be aware that most excursions don't include entrance fee's to the attractions so it does start adding up!!. Over all sun beach is a great hotel and good for family's & couples, we would visit again if we return to Rhodes.
Great Holiday at the Sun Beach
from gowerboy
My wife, teenager son and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Sun Beach Complex in Rhodes (1st - 8th July 2006) We booked a relitively last minute holiday with Thompsons (-------) with a "free" childs place for my son (the last one as he has reached 16) and can report that the Sun Beach is a very well run complex with good facilities and very good staff. A four star hotel status is justified but some parts could do with a lick of paint, this is a very minor point but worth a mention. Overall a very high standard is maintained throughout the complex, with daily maid service (always with a smile and "hello") and and well furnished bar and reception areas. We were in the Sun Beach 2 apartments, a studio for three persons, which was clean and well equiped with TV, fridge, micowave and a two ringed hob. All apartments either overlook the pool or the gardens, we were on the top floor with a nice view of the pool. You can use both hotel facilities with Sun Beach 1 just across the road so you have a choise of pools etc..there also is a mini market, tennis, crazy golf and mini gym. Can also recommend the bar restaurant which was very good value. The pool was good with a small area for kids and plenty of sun loungers but beware these were reserved as early as 6am (won't mention any nationalities) and I would think that in high season this would be a real problem. The beach is the only part that I could fault, scruffy loungers and unwelcoming apearance, a walk over some old pallets to reach it. The animation team do a great job and try to involve every body with water polo, water netball, quiz, bingo and a show every evening as well as running a kids club, all the team were very friendly and good fun. The bar staffare also excellent, very polite and provide a table service and happy hour (19.30 - 21.30) with cocktails 2 for 1. We ate out every night, Trianda has a good selection of restaurants and bars although all were very good the Kights of Olde and the Kavalieros (bar and roof top restaurant) were the best of those we tried. Plenty of shops and car/bike hire also. Weather was excellent upper 80's -90's every day, even hotterwhen we went to Faliraki for the day (not recommended), we also went to Rhodes town which was very good both trips by taxi (taxi rank just down the road from hotel towards the town). I would happly return to the Sun Breach and can recommened it for a relaxing family holiday.

Sun Beach Trianda rhodes
from Daimaxboyce
My family really enjoyed the Sunbeach in Trianda ,Rhodes. The Staff were great and approachable all the time we were there. Plenty of activities if you wanted to join in but able to relax if you didnt. Close to the beach if you wanted a swim in the sea for a change. Pool was really relaxing , Kids Club reps were excellent and my children really enjoyed their stay. Small shops across the road to get daily shopping items and food if you are self catering. Weather was great as expected. Visits from the Water Hoppers Diving school atleast once a week if you want to take part. Myself and my wife went diving and the children done snorkelling with the staff out in a cove, it was a lifetimes experience. We were self catering so we had a chance to look around for places to eat but found we always got to the Knights Of Olde Restaruant where Dawn { originally from scotland} Mihalis and their staff made us welcome. Had meals there 12 out of the 14 nights we stayed. Quality , Choice and prices were excellent. We are visiting Rhodes again this year { 2006} and although we are All Inclusive we intend on visiting The Knights of Olde Restaraunt to have a special meal. There are loads of Restarunts to try but you must go to The Knights of Olde. Excellent time had by us all
Had another great holiday at Sun Beach
from zoegreece
We came back from Sun Beach in early October after yet another great holiday. As usual all the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms and hotel in general were spotless. The weather could have been better but it was the end of the season but this was our second trip, we had stayed there 8 weeks before in July and found a cheap deal on the net so back we went. Nearly everyone in Trianda welcomed us back. Anyway back to Sun Beach. There are 2 parts to the hotel Sunbeach 1 & 2 both have there good sides the larger pool is in Sun beach 1 but the best pool bar is in Sunbeach 2 (say hello to spyros when you get there ). The animation team spread themselves between both sides of the complex during the day with activities for children and adults, and in the evening put on some fantastic shows. Sun beach 1 is also a nice place to have a drink before you go out for the evening (say hello to stavros at the bar). Ther are loads of good bars in Trianda which also serve food if you don't want to travel, or you can go to Rhodes Town (8 euro by taxi) or by bus. In August starting on or around the 13th there is a festival in Kremasti thats well worth a visit. Kramasti is also the home of Tommys Bar a great night if you fancy a change you can enter competitions like killer darts, Who wants to be a millionaire, bingo & quiz night and loads more. All in all you will have a great holiday at Sun Beach, The worse thing is waiting for the coach to take you back to the airport. Which costs 10 Euro in a taxi if you want to miss the queues. If Sun Beach read this tell spyros we will be back, I've just booked. We arrive 6pm on the 31st of May 2006 for the first visit this year Gordon, Bev & Zoe
What more can a parent ask for..........

this was the third visit to this complex in as many years. I am a single parent with a teenage son. The accomodation is very clean, the staff are polite and friendly and we have never expereinced any major problems with this complex. Theres plenty to do entertainment wise, my son loved it ( not bad considering he"s 15) and this year we decided to take his friend, and he loved it too, so much so, we have booked again for 2006 and he"s taking two mates, which suits me because it means i can relax by the pool and soak up the sun rays.We meet up with several families who have also returned to this complex on more than one occasion and not just those from the uk, people remember you even from holland and germany etc. I must say I have never been to the same complex more than once when we have been abroad but I can honestly say that we have found a very friendly and enjoyable place to stay. The village in Trianda is quiet but again very friendly with a wide choice of tavernas to eat at. I would recomend this complex to any one with small families, its not over bearing and not full of rowdy thugs. The only thing i cannot comment on is the restaurant, have never been in there, because the self catering accomodation has all the facilities you need if you wish to eat indoors. Theres also a fantastic take away...only a few hundred yards away which is quite commendable. What more can i say other than roll on Juy 2006, looking forward to yet another relaxing and fulfilling vacation.
Great Holiday !!

Me my wife and our 6 year old son Conner stayed at the sunbeach 2 complex in Trianda Rhodes in october 2005 and it was great. We booked the holiday 3 weeks previous as a late deal with thomson ... allocation on arrival and only paid £249.20 for all 3 of us! When we arrived at airport they said we was staying in Trianda and was only familly going to sunbeach they was putting us in a taxi - (I thought oh my god wy only us?) When we arrived at reception they said we was at wrong hotel as we was not on the computer system .. Not a very good start at 3am in the morning, and while all this is going on all we could think is we should of never booked a late deal! Anyway it gets better.. we was meant to be there we was just not booked on computer properly. After that was sorting we got our room half hour later and it was of 4* and the whole Hotel, entertainment and everything was Fantastic ... one of best holidays we have had. Would be happy to return.

We booked a week stay here for the end of May 2005 for a romatic getaway for our 40th. This was listed as a 4* hotel, half-board basis, right on the beach with two swimming pools. A quiet hotel suitable for couples. Beautiful gardens that lead down to the beach. The write up sounded wonderful alas the hotel was not. We were promised a room the either overlooked the gardens or the sea. We were given a room overlooking the parking lot at the front of the hotel right above the entrance - people coming and going all night long. We were told there was air-conditioning. There was air-conditioning but it wasn't turned on - they don't turn it on until it gets hot. The temp for the week we were there was +30. We had to beg for a fan and were delivered a very small fan, not enough to even cool a closet never mind a room. We were told there was internet access in all the rooms - not. The only internet access was in the busy lobby right by the front door. We weren't able to buy a drink when we wanted because the bar was the only place to get a drink and they didn't open up until half-hour before dinner. Don't try taking a glass from the bar into the dining room - not allowed. Don't try to buy a glass of wine at dinner either - they don't sell by the glass - only by the bottle. But not to worry we were told - just buy a bottle of wine with your meal and if you don't finish it you can have the rest tomorrow night, we'll just put your room number on it and keep it in the back - right? Nope - next night at dinner we asked for our remaining bottle of wine and we were told they couldn't find the bottle and had no record of us purchasing any wine. Oh, well, guess you'll just have to buy another bottle - I don't think so! Our complaints to the duty manager and the manager fell on deaf ears. The food was terrible and the dining room staff not particularly helpful. After supper an anticipated guiet drink in the bar was an impossiblility. The bar area is where they hold all the entertainment. Kids disco, entertainment, bingo - all at ear-splitting sound levels. After several months I can still hear the Bingo song in my head. Not sure where you go for a quiet drink - we couldn't even go to our room as we could hear the noise there. The hotel was full of children that were left unsupervised and allowed to run the hallways and hotel areas screeming and yelling without their parents seeming to care. The pictures that were were shown at the time of our booking was of the Sun Beach 2 - we believed we were staying here, we booked to stay here. When we got to Rhodes we went here - only to be told that we had been booked into the Sun Beach Complex across the road. The Sun Beach Complex has no beautiful gardens that lead down to the sea. It is not a quiet hotel for couples. The Sun Beach Complex caters to families with kids who want to spend their time drinking and partying all day and night. We have been to Rhodes several times and love. We thought we'd give the Ixia area a try rather than the the other side where we normally stay. Next time back to the other side of the island. Our 40th Anniversary was ruined by what I call false advertising.
loved the sunbeach

visited the sunbeach hotel on the 17 august 2005 for a fortnight. The hotel was relatively quiet as it was coming to the end of the season so the pool was not like human soup only one problem TOWELS but im sure this is the case in most hotels!!!!!! The sunbeach was spotless we opted for the self catering apartment which was well equipped and spotless. Trianda is a small town but needless to say there are many places to eat Irenes a small family run Greek restaurant is great, food is excellent and reasonably priced if you visit say hello to Stavros and his cousin who welcomed us most evenings and looked after us very well. While in rhodes if you fancy a Meze Mesiagos is the place to have one but a little more expensive than most places and a lot of the locals use it this is where we got our recommondation from I would not recomend Zorbas restaurant next to the hotel food was poor and overpriced. Make sure yoy visit Lindos and see the Acrpolis but do where flip flops it is quite a climb to the top and very rocky so trainers are probaby best also have a visit to rhodes town and take a walk around the harbour but be warned Rhodes town is very overpriced especially on the front take the back streets and youll find a large beer for 1 euro on the front youll pay 3. We really enjoyed our time in Sunbeach and would visit again we met some lovely people(look out for Spiero in the pool bar) and would recommend it Have a great time if your visiting and one last thing take plenty of mossie repellant!!!!
