Tromso is a beautiful town located north of Oslo. It is most famous for being able to see the most Northern Light activity, which we were lucky enough to see on our last night. During November the daylight hours are very short with only about 3-4 hours of actual daylight (The sun never actually rises above the horizon, although there is dusky light). It is very cold, and I am glad we took the time to look into the appropriate clothing needed.
During our stay we booked an organised Husky Sleigh ride through the hotel, which was an amazing evening. The trip also included a traditional Norwegian meal in a ‘Lavvo’ (traditional Sami tent a bit like a wigwam). The meal consisted of reindeer soup and reindeer stew, followed by ‘Glob’ a type of mulled wine.
The thing to be aware of is the price, everything was more expensive than we had read about in guidebooks and on websites, but apart from that it was the most amazing long weekend away ever. November was a great time of year to go - with all the snow and Christmas decorations in the town, we came back feeling very festive!
