The first thing that hit us when we...
2 / 10
Sep 2005, Miss S Moody

The first thing that hit us when we arrived at the hotel was how different it looked to the pictures we had seen when we booked it online with lastminute.com.
Quite simply, this is not a 4 star hotel. The rooms were basic, the mini bar was not stocked at all, the electricity sockets were hanging off the wall and there was little warm water. The “satellite” television consisted of 3 English speaking channels only and the room was very small.
The electricity was operated by inserting the room key in a socket. As mentioned above, our sockets were “hanging” off the wall resulting in the electricity supply consistently cutting out. After 3 days of this we decided to contact reception by phone, at which point they simply hung up on us after we had raised it. After phoning straight back we were promised someone would be up right away to look at it. 4 days later and still no one had bothered!!
The food was just about bearable for the first 3-4 days however we certainly could not stomach it for any longer. To say it was bland would be an understatement. I did not realise chips could be served with so many different dishes! The food was often cold, flavourless and extremely repetitive.
As we had a late flight on the day of departure we decided to pay £30 to keep the room on until 10:00pm. At 9:57pm we were greeted by a security guard banging on our door demanding we vacate the room....not the kind of service you expect when you have paid to keep the room on!
The staff were rude (apart from about 2). When ordering drinks they would almost scowl at you for bothering them. We noticed used glasses were simply rinsed under a cold tap after use and mixers were poured with the barman’s finger blocking the bottle top......not hygienic at all!!!
Overall, we had stayed in worst hotels, however for the amount we paid and the expectations we had from the internet pictures when we booked it we were extremely disappointed and WOULD NOT recommend this hotel.

After a coach trip from the airport...

After a coach trip from the airport to the hotel of almost 3 HOURS !!!!!!!!!! YES 3 HOURS we arrived at our hotel to sounds of Ooooo, WOW, from other people on our coach, and sure enough after being up from 5am and arriving at 10pm it was a welcome sight. We got off the coach and our luggage was taken in to the reception for us, how impressive !!!! BUT IT WAS SHORT LIVED !!!!!!!!!
Our room was let’s say average, shoddily decorated, holes in the bedding, leaking air-con and bare sockets hidden behind furniture.
We arose the following morning to go for breakfast only to be greeted by eggs, eggs, eggs and yes you’ve guessed it more eggs, some chopped sausages and salad were a bit of a reprieve, that is until you’ve had them for 14 days in a row, the same can be said for lunch, chips, pasta and BRUSSEL SPROUTS !!!!!!! The evening meals are also not up to scratch, you’re greeted to a full dining area, queues for food and a chef who decides that you’re "greedy" and that he’s put enough on your plate !!!! For an all inclusive hotel that dictates when you eat just isn’t good enough, as for the bar the staff were unhelpful, ignorant, unhygienic and down right rude, unless you were blonde, young and half dressed.
The entertainment staff were simply young lads walking around trying to impress young girls, the only person actually worth the wages she earned was Emma who was an absolute diamond, she entertained the children tirelessly throughout our stay and deserves to be placed in a hotel where she would be appreciated.
I could go on all evening about this hotel there are just so many complaints that I have regarding this so called 4 STAR hotel, in my opinion this hotel just about deserves 2 STARS, overall a poor hotel with awful staff with the only saving grace being the weather. And they have the cheek to charge you £10 to come into the country!!!!!

I’ve just got back from a holiday...
1 / 10
Jul 2005, Miss C.M Leslie-Reed

I’ve just got back from a holiday to Turkey, which I booked to celebrate my friend’s 19th birthday and my 18th. We wanted a lively resort that was suitable for young people but didn’t have the reputation for being unsafe. This we got.
I didn’t book with club 18-30 as I wanted a quality/ fancy hotel as I am used to staying in the higher rated hotels. We chose Club Armar as it is rated 4* when we arrived, we were SHOCKED AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY. The outside of the hotel looks lovely and the reception is beautiful, but the games room has paint chipped on the walls, the ceiling is cracked and looks unsafe and the pool table is wedged between pillars which makes it very difficult to play (oh yeah and take your own cue because theirs don’t have tips).
I’ve stayed at many 4*/5*/6* hotels and honestly Armar didn’t deserve its rating!
We went all inclusive and found that we were to use the plastic cards given to us on arrival as credit cards to purchase drinks when the all inclusive finished at 11pm and we’d have to pay the bill at the end of the holiday. Fair enough. We decided that we’d go to the bar and get loads of drinks to last the night, so we didn’t have to worry about purchasing any, and would avoid a bill and arguments at checkout.
I am glad we did because I was told at checkout that a drink had been charged to my room (which I didn’t have) I told the receptionist that I hadn’t purchased this drink, they just wiped it off without argument, finally one good thing. But it did make me think that if we had used the cards then we could have been charged for more than we had.
THERE WAS NO WRISTBANDS OR CHECKS TO SEE IF WE WERE STAYING AT THE HOTEL.
There was only ONE BAR YOU COULD GET DRINKS FROM. A pain when the entertainment in the evening is located on the second floor of the hotel, and the bar is by the pool. There was VERY LITTLE CHOICE in drinks and we were drinking Pepsi mainly and occasionally their vodka which wasn’t brilliant (apparently watered down).
A la Carte restaurants not included in the all inclusive, neither is their ice cream all though the ice cream isn’t too expensive.
The water park is suitable for kids, but not really for adults, some adults tried to make it more interesting by using a blow up boat or ring, which was amusing to watch! If you wanted a sun bed you had to get up at 7am and throw a towel over them otherwise you stood no chance. And this hotel doesn’t offer a pool towel service so take your own trust me you’ll need it!
There was water aerobics in the morning and volleyball in the afternoon for which if you don’t want to play you have to get out of the pool for.
All though there are 6 pools they are small! And 3 of them are for kids.
The BIGGEST LET DOWN was the FOOD; in a word it was awful. The all inclusive is timed and breakfast consisted of boiled eggs, scrambled eggs (that looked awful and tasted just as bad), sausages, and omelette which credit where due was at least edible.
Dinner was at 12:30 and the food was put out at 12pm and left under a heater which was completely useless as every time we went to get the food, (we were the first ones in usually) it was COLD! It consisted of a lot of salad, rice and chicken! Sounds nice but trust me it wasn’t the chicken had a lot of fat, and skin on it, it was also spicy. The rice was dry and had no flavour.
Tea is at 7:30pm, which as dinner is at 12:30 is a long time not to be able to get any thing to eat. It consisted again of very little choice (salad rice and chicken), what was available didn’t look appetizing, and once again it was cold.
There are Turkish snacks available at 2:30, biscuits and tea at 5pm, but if you don’t like very spicy foods and dry biscuits you’re pretty screwed.
The SERVICE was varied, most of the staff were male, IF THEY LIKED YOU, you got served at the bar and they were friendly. IF THEY DIDN'T they’d insult you in Turkish and sometimes ignore you and serve someone else.
I was one of the lucky ones and never had a problem, however the two mates I was with were male and their treatment was appalling.
GUESTS ALWAYS COMPLAINING! Every day someone would complain that perfume, money, and valuables were going missing!
WE STOOD AT THE RECEPTION FOR FIVE MINUTES AND COUNTED HOW MANY PEOPLE MADE A COMPLAINT.
Let’s just say it was more than a few! This was also fuelled by the staff suddenly not being able to speak the language!
So if you’re adamant that Club Armar is the hotel for you do what we did put your valuables in the safe and keep you cases packed and locked. Yep even clothing went missing! At the start of the holiday my friend had £15 mysteriously go missing from his wallet. We decided after that to keep everything under lock and key.
ROOMS DISGUSTING! I paid a supplement to have my own room as I was on holiday with two lads, the lads room was adequate, clean but not of 4* standard, carpets were ripped, and their beds were uncomfortable.
My room was better, exquisite view from the balcony, bed was comfortable. Bathroom was small and I was thankful that I was the only one using the room.
WE WERE MOVED, on our last night to a family room WORST ROOM I'VE EVER SEEN, the mini fridge leaked as did the air conditioning, carpets had holes in it, balcony was much smaller than the others, the ELECTRICITY SOCKETS were hanging off the walls with wires everywhere, very unsafe.
Entertainment, if you are taking YOUNG CHILDREN or you don’t want to listen to MUSIC that is filled with all the SWEAR WORDS under the sun, this hotel is not for you. As these songs were played right after the children’s mini disco (Which was bad if I was that age again I'd have cried) and around the pool. The shows are ok, but the entertainment and food at CLUB ATRIUM IS BETTER. There is no nightclub (unless you count the club dance after the entertainment). And the music from the entertainment you can hear until midnight along with mosque music which plays at intervals all through the day.
Good points? The resort was nice and above all cheap; there is edible food at a restaurant called ADAM AND EVE'S across from the hotel, with as their sign says "NO MINGING FOOD." Impressive service and very nice steaks!
Another restaurant is COUSINS about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, again fabulous food and service. When we arrived the first time at each of these restaurants and told the waiters we were staying at Armar, all the waiters in the restaurant came round us to say how many people were disappointed, and were complaining about the hotel. We were added to the list.
All in all I wouldn’t go all-inclusive again in Marmaris or stay at Club Armar, the resort is cheap and you’ll get better food and drink elsewhere.
Sorry this was long hope it helped. Enjoy your holiday wherever you end up!

Jun 2005, The Robertson Family

This hotel was great, It had 6 pools 3 of which were children’s pools and one indoor pool. The water slides were great fun and you do not have to pay for them as some reviews let you believe.
Hotel was clean and well looked after, staff were helpful (except for the dragon that served in the front bar) Entertainment staff were also very friendly and made you feel welcome. The draught beer was excellent it was served ice cold and was not flat like some other all-inclusive hotels. The food was simple but good, there are a lot of salads, pasta’s and chicken on the menu but sometimes in the evening we found there was nothing the children would like.
Rooms were also very clean and fitted with a carpet, which made a nice change to the greasy ceramic tiles you usually find on holiday. I think what makes this hotel good is the fact that when full the amount of guests does not exceed the hotels capabilities. There is not a mad rush for sun beds as there are plenty to go around and most with padded covers. This hotel is excellent value for money considering the rates were very competitive.
Overall the holiday was great and we would not hesitate booking the Club Armar next year.

Great Hotel!!! Excellent facilities!! The hotel has several pools, one in front of the hotel has 3 slides going into it...great fun.
Food was ok, they have different food served all through the day. Small portions but you can go back for more. All inclusive bar until 11pm, after you pay for them and they are expensive, best to go to local bars after 11pm.
Entertainment day and night, some good some poor. Rooms very nice and cleaned everyday.
Overall would recommend it great value!

Aug 2004, Miss JL Hughes

Myself and my Fiancé are both 20 and stayed here for 2weeks and we both had the time of our lives!
The hotel is spotless, the rooms are spacious, clean and have all the facilities you’d need. The staff are very friendly and helpful, we made great friends with the entertainment staff and even went out clubbing with them one night!
The food is to die for! It rotates on a weekly basis but it’s so yummy that you don’t get bored with it. Its great if you like, chicken, rice and lots of fruit and salad.
The evening entertainment was really good and interactive. Brilliant for both kids and adults, however you have got to be willing to get up and join in and sometimes make a prat of yourself in the process!
They also put on entertainment during the day, like darts and tennis tournaments, water gym, water polo and it essential that you do the club dance!
The only downside would be that the hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the beach and the best shopping area, but the local buses are cheap and quite easy to catch.
Personally, we did find some of the Turkish shop owners very intimidating and pushy, which did put us off shopping around the town. However, the key is to be firm with them and to say ‘no’ from the start before being roped in. And you’ll also find that every shop owner claims to be the 'cheapest!'
We went on a trips to the Dylan mud baths and rock tombs, Ephesus, had a med cruise and went out for a ‘Turkish night’ all of which were brilliant and good value for money. However, if the trip says you get a meal that doesn’t include drinks and sometimes these are expensive. We ended up paying roughly £6 for two cans of coke! - so be careful!
All in all, though, had a brilliant two weeks away, the weather was in the 40’s and the hotel was perfect!

Jun 2004, Miss L Durkan

Food - extremely disappointing for an all-inclusive hotel, any snacks or ice cream had to be paid for. The choice of food available for breakfast lunch and dinner was appalling. Everyday breakfast consisted of boiled egg, bread and salad. Lunch and dinner were very similar - soup, salad and something like meatballs and potatoes very little choice available. Despite paying for an all inclusive holiday many guests chose to eat out due to the lack of suitability and choice of food.
Entertainment - on the rare occasions when it was provided it did not start until after 10 o’clock and there was nothing for kids. During the day the same music was played over and over again some of which was not suitable for a family hotel. There was no cinema or nightclub in the hotel as stated in some websites, just an open room with a wide screen television.
Staff - a lot of the staff were exceptionally friendly particularly those working in the pool bar. However some of the staff particularly those working in the "restaurant" were unpleasant. On two separate occasions during my stay waiters did not return all inclusive cards to guests after taking their drink orders and if you lose your card you have to pay to replace it! Problems also arose when guests wanted to make complaints as those members of staff who could speak English fluently suddenly had difficulty.
Hygiene/Cleanliness - this is one area where the hotel could not be faulted. The rooms where spotless as was the rest of the hotel.

I travelled with my wife, thankfully...
3 / 10
Jun 2004, Mr D Mitchell

I travelled with my wife, thankfully we do not have any children, as they would have been very disappointed. I can only say that we both feel cheated from visiting this hotel having paid to do it as “All Inclusive”.
The food was actually quite good for adults as long as you do not mind salad for lunch and dinner every single day. They do serve interesting and actually quite good things to go with the salad, but that is the only positive thing about the food. If you have children, stay away. I watched in dismay as parents had to take their kids to restaurants to feed them, as the hotel does not cater for them at all. The ice creams are not included and they sell them at about £1 each. Drinks finish too early at 11pm, with you being charged extra for certain alcoholic drinks such as rum! When they do finish they will then charge you anything from around £2 for a half-pint-sized glass of beer, the same for a coke and more for a spirit with mixer, far too expensive. We left the hotel every night to go to a restaurant next door.
The hotel itself was clean and tidy and most of the staff friendly enough, but there were some very annoying things. The Water Park that is advertised opened when we were there. They charge you, irrespective of being “All Inclusive” £4 a day for adults to use it and £2 for kids, you also have to pay for drinks and food whilst you are in there. You are not allowed to take drinks or food in and if you leave have to pay again!
The entertainment again started whilst we were there, during the day it was pretty much aimed at adults as there are no facilities for kids, unless you pay for the Water Park. At night it usually started at 10.30pm, half an hour before the drinks finish, very sneaky.
We noticed some very strange behaviour with the bar staff and waiters. They do not operate a wristband to say you are “All Inclusive” it is done with a plastic card. They take this card to enter it on the till when you order drinks. We noticed on three occasions the waiters put these cards in their back pocket and not return them, to ensuing arguments, which the hotel management did nothing. I can only make two assumptions. The hotel management have told their waiters to do this and then charge those people for the loss of the card and that the waiters get a finders fee!!!
Upon checkout, midday, our flight at 1am in the morning I paid £20 to keep the room until 6pm so we could stay by the pool. I rather stupidly assumed this would give us the privilege of remaining “All Inclusive”. It did not. At midday our cards stopped working, we could get no drinks or food. The manager of the hotel suddenly spoke no English and the person I had paid the money too had a very vague memory of me even paying her the money.
Basically, don’t bother. There are much better half board, self-catering options. Thankfully this did not ruin our holiday as we made some great friends.
