This hotle is amazing to look at! It is a very grand, I think 16th century building surrounded by landscaped gardens, very picturesque! The rooms are well furnished and decorated although there were a lot of signs of wear. Could do with updating furniture and a coat of paint but still not over bad! The pool was good. A very good size and plenty of space for people. There were 5 restaurants in the hotel. They were really good, I would strongly recommend that you try them if you are staying at this hotel. They were better than any other that we ate at in Malta. The prices were reasonable, for the food and the hotel. Ask for a room at the back when you book, as the bus station is opposite and can get noisey from early morning. Not a bad hotel.

Perfect two weeks spent in the grand opulence and idyllic peaceful surroundings of this charming hotel. Clean, tidy, welcoming and unobtrusive in all aspects. Nearby bus station was an added advantage to getting around the island.
Pool area cannot be faulted. Breakfast was a delight, concierges and counter staff were very helpful and approachable throughout our stay. Room was perfectly cleaned, tidied and aired every day, a delightful stay - roll on next year.

This hotel is what old style hotels with service are about. The entrance and the big lounge area is really good but don’t expect the clinical look of new hotels because that’s not this type of hotel is about.
We have just had a 4 day break to attend the Jazz festival and this hotel was the ideal location.
We had a room overlooking the Harbour and gardens with a small balcony which was so pleasant to be able to sit out after spending a day on the pool side.
The room was perfectly functional and facilities were good including free fridge and safe box.
The breakfast in the morning was superb and also being sat outside overlooking the gardens and harbour opposite.
Ideal for the Maltese buses as this is outside the hotel entrance (50m) a walk around the streets of Valetta and after the big breakfast was a must.
Staff were friendly as only the Maltese people can be and we will certainly return.

It’s important to bring the details upto date on this hotel.
I arrived and was shocked at how tired everything looked. The rooms were basic and very tired looking. The 2 rooms I was shown to had a curious odour to them, looking down the drains it was easy to see why.
This hotel is currently on the market to be sold. If one could be found and is able to keep its exterior charm, but update the rooms it would be back on our holiday list.
In the end it is entirely up to you whether you visit. If you can overcome the tiredness of the rooms then this is a great place to be.

The location cannot be beaten for either a business trip or a holiday if your preference is for broadening your horizons rather than sitting on a beach.

Should you ever be in Valletta when it is time for afternoon tea, go to the lounge in the Phoenicia and experience the best afternoon tea available anywhere.

While first impressions of Malta upon leaving the airport are not the best, at first it looks like one big industrial plant but you soon realise that is a big port. The journey to the hotel was also a little scary Malta’s roads are not in the best condition and the Maltese seem to drive with no fear of their lives or other road users.
Upon reaching the hotel, which is situated just outside the main entrance gate to Valletta the Maltese capital, I was impressed with the art deco exterior of the hotel.
On entering the main entrance hall it was another story you are greeted with a grand hall that resembles the opulence and grandeur of the 1920s and 30s very clean and cool as Malta can get hot.
The staff where very friendly and helpful at all times during my stay and went out of there way to accommodate my needs they even kept the bar open well passed closing on one night when a group of us where enjoying a few cocktails.
The rooms where clean and spacious with nice decor with all the latest amenities.
The hotels pool resides down a walk through well kept gardens, the pool area over looks part of Valletta Harbour so whilst resting with a cocktail by the pool you have some spectacular views.
The hotels restaurant is more formal than some hotels but the food and service are some of best around and defiantly what you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
With Valletta just outside the hotel you are spoilt for choice with some fine shops and great restaurants and bars.
There is a lot to see on a small island and a harbour cruise is well worth the money also don’t miss the blue lagoon whilst the trip may seem a little rushed it is worth it just to see some of the stunning caves and coastline definitely not an occasion to forget you camera.
If you want a bit of night life then Silima or St Julian’s have a lot to offer.
Malta may not be to everyone’s taste and Malta can seem a little dirty but this is partly to do with the fact it’s a very dry country and seems more desert like in places. Things are improving since there admission into the European Union such as pollution from cars and trucks which can be a problem.
The Maltese people are a friendly people who will welcome you to there country the only piece of advice is the busses they are old very old and not for the faint hearted its like going on roller coaster ride.
