I will be staying there again! Great location!
from rice_4_me
I read all the complaints about the hotel, but I really didn't find anything wrong with it. Free wired and wireless internet service, a big plus if your are an internet fanatic. Got to have that email. TV was good room was plently large enough. How much time do you spend in a room in NYC. Overall I was very pleased for the price. Close to Penn Station and subway lines. I will stay here again.
Location and value!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed for 3 nights from 6/15 to 6/18. There was major construction going on 31st St., so make sure to request a room on a higher floor to avoid the noise. Room size is small, but it's o.k. for NYC standard. The location is 2 blocks away from the Empire State Bldg. which is the bus stop for the Gray Line double deck tour bus. We purchased the Two Day Pass for the All Loops Tour, and had a great time. The hotel is located in the heart of korea town, best suited for oriental food lovers. The complimentary breakfast serves donuts, bagels, toast, and oatmeal. You have to try their cappucino, it is so good. The only complaint that I have is the towels and sheets were old (worn out). Overall, it is very convienent and reasonable priced for NYC.
Great Value

Stayed for 3 nights in May 2004. Great location (steps from the Empire State Building, walking distance to Times Square). Very clean, new rooms and large room size (for New York City standards). Great korean/japanese restaurants on the same block.
Good value but some quirks
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here for a weekend and found it to be a good value for New York City. It wasn't cheap, but compared to the other hotels I looked into it wasn't bad. Pros: -Excellent location, right in Little Korea, two blocks from the Empire State building and a stone's throw from the theatre district. -Clean, modern building, and no worries about cockroaches or other such unwelcome guests. -Validated parking is "only" $24 per 24 hours (which is a fortune but I suppose is cheap for NYC) -The hotel is set back from the street, and very quiet at night. We were on the second floor and I was worried about street noise but we didn't hear anything. Higher floors must have a great view of the Empire State Building. -Included breakfast. Gotta love it. Sure, it's not much, but hey, most hotels offer nothing at all. Cons: -Someone mentioned the odd bathroom configuration. I have to agree. Why they would put the toilet handle on the inside, next to the sink counter, is beyond me. It makes it extremely difficult to flush. And the toilet paper is very far from the toilet. Sure these are minor annoyances but they could have easily been avoided. -The air conditioning doesn't work on a thermostat, so you can either leave it on (very cold) or off (very warm), it doesn't adjust. -We got a room with 2 double beds for 4 people, but like a lot of NYC hotels, the "double" beds were really just 3/4 beds which were really too small for two people to sleep in comfortably. Rooms were smallish also, though not overly so for New York. -The desk staff weren't particularly friendly, though they weren't rude or anything. Just not really warm and fuzzy. -Two slow elevators for 17 floors? Not cool. Would I stay here again? Depends on what other deals I found elsewhere. But come on, how much time do you really spend in the hotel anyway?
Great hotel for the price

We stayed at the Red Roof for 3 nights in May and it was exactly what we expected: clean, safe and comfortable. Our room was not large but there was space for the two of us and our luggage, including a desk for the laptop and a free wireless connection. We've stayed at Red Roof Inns in other cities and been happy with them as well. Not much character but predictably comfortable and clean.
Small Room
from Jimmy510
The room that I stayed in was really small that I did not really have much room to lay my luggage down. There was one king size bed and a TV. I believe the rooms with a desk must have been much bigger and would have probably waited for that room if I was not in a rush to check-in. So, before checking-in, make sure to check the room out first before settling in. I stayed in room 1410 and if you look at the elevator chart of the room, it was the smallest room on the floor, so BE CAREFUL. The other problem I ran into was you can break a finger when flushing the toliet. The knob was so tighly hidden between the sink that u had to really stretch your fingers to flush the toliet. Overall, the bathroom was nice! I would stay here again, but would be careful in which room I would accept.
Great Value for NYC
from A TripAdvisor Member
Great location, clean room, and a great value for NYC. Blocks from subway stations, Penn station, Empire State Bld. Room was quiet (14th floor), but had a faint onion odor in the room probably from all the asian restaurants on that street. Weak shower pressure, but OK. Comfy bed and pillows. The complementary b-fast bar was a nice touch for NYC. Staff was friendly which I wasn't expecting after reading the other reviews. We'll definitely stay there again.
Excellent

stayed here two years ago and planning another trip this year. Would not stay anywhere else. Excellent location and staff friendly and rooms very clean. Continental breakfast was enough and healthy. Would recommend.
SERIOUSLY!! Do not consider anywhere else!!

Excellent you couldn't really beat it to be honest!! Again similar to others I stayed here based on reviews from this website. I visited NY with 2 family members and a friend at the end of April 2004 and stayed in the Red Roof Inn and couldn't fault it at all. The rooms were excellent quality, tv, shower, bath, internet access, iron, fridge and even a microwave. Had maid service everyday and had clean towels, everything I asked for and expected I got. Alot of other people I have observed moaned about the room sizes unless mine was completely unique the rooms were superb. I had a room with 2 double beds {Large} in and was completely satisfactory. Breakfast was also brilliant for free, cereal, toast, bagels, juices and fresh fruit, seriously what do people want for free, personally I would have paid a few dollars for the breakfast as it set you up for the day. Staff could have been more friendly but didn't detract from my stay at all. The hotel had a information desk manned till 8pm very helpful and the belboys were also of great assistance. Free safe 24 hr access, and only $5 in cab to Times Square or 20 min walk and 2 mins from Empire SB. Heed advice and stay here, cost me £80 in UK currency or $129 US per night. Don't bother searching elsewhere as u simply will not beat the value and cleanliness of this hotel. Other friends have paid £80 per night per person elsewhere, this price was for my whole room split between four, and their experiences weren't the best. Have already recommended to many friends and aquaintances. Enjoy NY!!!!
Good stay here with the kids.

Excellent value this. My wife and I stayed here in 2001 and enjoyed it, and have just stayed again - with two kids this time. Room was clean, comfy and very well equipped with fridge and microwave as well as the telly. Bathroom very clean, sheets changed daily. Friendly staff, other than those on reception. For UK readers, the price worked out at £84 p.n for all four of us (mum, dad and two kids) which compares favourably with London hotels, for example - and you get breakfast here (bagels, doughnuts, fruit, coffee and juice, just fine. But it's the location that is so great - easy walk to Empire State, Time Sq, Macy's, Madison Sq, Flatiron, loads of eats on Fifth Ave and surrounding streets. Subway at the end of the street, same with Post Office. Internet in the lobby. No complaints here, highly recommended.

Had an absolutely wonderful time on this trip to the big apple. Accommodations were affordable but nice, and we were able to see all the sights we ever could have wanted to see. We took a stroll through central park, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, shopped in Chinatown, and had... more
