Having just returned from the Pirat Hotel in Kalkan, and as a Travel Agent myself, I know the difference between a good and bad Hotel, and this one is definately one of the best. The only reason it only has a 3* grading, is because there is NO lift in the new building and... more

We have just returned from an amazing two weeks (wish it had been longer) in the beautiful town of Kalkan. It was the most relaxing holiday I went on with so many things to do. We stayed at the Pirat Hotel which is exactly as it states, but the warmth and atmosphere of the... more

Very clean hotel. Very friendly, professional staff. Hotel has 3 pools surrounded by lots of sunbeds which overlook a lovely bay/marina. Hotel food is very reasonable; lots of salads and often barbecued mains including fresh fish. There was a free turkish night with dancing... more

Me and my partner stayed at the Pirat Hotel for our first holiday abroad together (and my partners first time abroad) and absolutely loved it. We arrived at night and were really impressed with the hotel and stayed overlooking the pool ( we had emailed them in advance... more

The hotel itself gave comfortable accomodation and great food, but I would like to warn families planning to stay at the Pirat Hotel of the Yakamoz bar just behind the hotel, this is a strip club advertising traditional belly dancing.
Otherwise a great holiday.

Our stay in Kalkan was by far one of the best holidays to date. The Hotel Pirat is separated into two parts; one with the swimming pool and above the bars, the other is across the street and has a beautiful view of the marina. Rooms were adequate and have everything you... more

We stayed in the Dionysus Hotel -2 star hotel about 3 years ago, well it was fantastic - at least 3 star in other countries- the hotel - so welcoming - I could not fault it at all. The rooms are simple clean and basic but lets face it we don't stay in the rooms for all our... more

In this age of bland, marbled, homogenised hotel chains, the Pirat is a throwback to the basics of true hospitality that is the mark of a really good as well as memorable hotel. We stayed for two weeks half board and had the best holiday we can remember. It’s worth... more

I was a little apprehensive about what lay in store at the Pirat, having read several conflicting reviews the week before we departed. However I cannot fault this hotel in anyway. The room was spotless, air conditioned and a good size for the three of us. There were a lot... more

Kalkan is a very pretty town, with lots of charm and character. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from and the local food is excellent. Kalkan has a town beach but if you want to explore the dolmus (mini bus) service is excellent and reliable so it is very easy to... more

Well run
Well run with very professional staff. Lift to all floors. Our room, top floor overlooking the harbour was very comfortable with balcony. Carpeted throughout reduces noise from other guests returning at night. Normally very quiet. Breakfast was continental with plenty of choice. Dinner, served at the Pirat 2 was plain, plentiful, well presented and sensibly priced. Catering staff were excellent. Kalkan no longer a quiet fishing village, with one open bar on the seafront having a music licence until 3 in the morning which we found intrusive, even though our room was double glazed and on the fourth floor. Restaurants and bars abound and can be 'pushy' as you walk past. Otherwise, a pleasant enough resort.
Perfect combination of quiet and active
This hotel combined the friendly atmosphere I looked for and at the same time, when wanting some quiet, we were left alone with no problems. the local town was wonderful and we had some nice boat trips for snorkel and rides on the beach. Food was good in the hotel and even better in the local wharf area. Superb. Hated to leave and long to go back.
Perfect Location for a quiet holiday
Never been to Turkey before. Found this hotel to be perfectly positioned with lovely views over marina. Local beach not the best but we saw an octopus in the shallows while snorkelling there. Lots of street cats and dogs but they weren't a nuisance. Food good at the Marina Restaurant - staff friendly and 10% discount if staying at hotel. Boat trips from harbour good value for money. Also dolmus was a cheap way of getting around. Regular power cuts in resort but all restaurants had candlelight, which was very romantic, perhaps not so good if you're stuck in the lift. The hotel did have a back-up generator. Would recomend this pretty resort if you're looking for a quiet holiday with good restaurants.
Great Hotel and resort
We stayed at Pirate for a week in September 2006. Thought that overall it was a good place to stay and hope that the following will be of help to anyone considering staying there. 1) There are lots of stairs. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Frankly we thought this was great as you don't feel so guilty about having a desert or three when you know you'll burn off those extra calories later on. Kalkan as a whole isn't somewhere to go if you like flat places. 2) Room. Firstly beware that a lot of the rooms have only twin beds that don't push together. We requested a double at reception and they moved us to a room that 'used' to be a suite. The quality of the fixtures and fittings really wasn't that great and you could easily pick holes in the quality of the bathroom. Don't go expecting 5*, there is no Molten Brown to be found anywhere. Having said that, there was a shower and a plentiful supply of hot water and as looking as you're happy with that you'll find the rooms adequate - but nothing more. 3) Food and Beverage. The pool side bar is great for a few or more drinks. The staff are very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make your holiday enjoyable. There is something about not bringing in food and drink from outside but as long as you aren't being to obvious about it bringing in water was never a problem for us. Breakfast, like the rooms is adequate. Didn't try any other meals there but only because there are so many good restaurants in town. 4) The pool. This really sold the hotel to us. Two good size pools, lots of sun loungers and often a nice breeze from the sea. You also get a great view. 5) Location. Awesome. Perfect. The main reason for staying there. The hotel is in the old part of the town where all of the best (so we thought) restaurants are. You are right by the marina and whilst we did the walk up the hill into the new resort we wish we hadn't bothered as it really is so much nicer in the older area. Overall the quality of the rooms is not amazing and we have certainly had better. However the location and the lounging area by the pool were great and the staff that we encountered were all very helpful. If we were to return to Kalkan we would stay there again, we wouldn't however go to Kalkan just to stay there. If you do go there with the right expectation you'll have a great time.
paradise
having just returnd from pirat hotel again, i felt i had to write a review about the hotel to set peoples minds at rest on other reviews, i have been going to kalkan for 20 years now and cannot fault the the resort or hotel, kalkan is my second home, pirat hotel is brilliant, stunning sea views, friendly staff and great rooms, all public areas aswell as bedrooms are spotless and if a problem housekeeping will sort it out immediately , the hotel is based in 2 blocks and for the less mobile etc reception block would be more suitable as it has a lift but there are still steps to the pool. if you go say hello to yunus on reception and levent at pool bar, breakfast was standard turkish breakfast with a choice of 2 fruit juices each day. if you want a full english go to marina restaurant and see mario and he will sort it out for you, food at marina is excellent and again staff are great especially mario, people had put reviews on about the noise from the bar under hotel and along the road we had a seaview 1st floor room facing the bar and hardly heard a thing, we wanted to do a couple of trips while away and reception sorted everything out for us at good prices. Good places to eat marina restaurant, doy doy. kosk, and odak. we enjoyd drinking at sandal bar and yatch point staff are great and will do anything for you, thanks again hidir, cenk, mario, ahmet, can and ali, see you all in febuary then september,
Not sucha good hotel
My husband and I stayed at the Pirat Hotel, Kalkan in September 2006, this being my second visit to the Pirat. We were bitterly disappointed at the whole state of the hotel. The toilet facilities beside the pool consistently smelled of urine and there was never any toilet paper. They were certainly not cleaned on a daily basis. The stairs up to most of the rooms were never clean with dirt and rubbish just lying around. There seemed to be plently of waiters milling about but no one giving them instructions to carry out simple tasks of keeping the whole in a clean and tidy order. The bedrooms were cleaned on a daily basis but the bathrooms certainly need refurbishing and new modern shower unit installed. We had friends in Kalkan who came to visit us in the Pirat Hotel twice, but the reception desk never told us that they had called to see us and did not pass on messages that were left for us. Breakfast in the mornings consisted of a buffet but unfortunately the same bowl of yoghart seemed to be brought out each day, without the bowl actually being cleaned. We could not believe that we had to pay for freshly squeezed orange juice, is that not part of your daily breakfast? On booking the Pirat travel agency seemed to forget to tell you that you need to climb mountains of stairs to actually get to your bedroom and to the dining area. We seen a number of older customers struggling with the stairs and no hope of help from the staff milling around. On the whole Pirat needs to be demolished and to start all over again.
Fantastic
Fantastic hotel. Great location, friendly staff, awesome pool bar. Would strongly recommend staying there.
Nice Clean Hotel, Friendly and well located
We stayed at the Pirat II and had a wonderful time. The Hotel is well situated on the Harbour. The Hotel rooms are small but very clean. there are no lifts and lots and lots of stairs - its not for anyone who would have problems with lots of stairs. From street level to get to what is effectivly the ground floor where the pools and bar is is about 60 steps - then its upstairs agian to your room - which can be anything from 1 flight of about 20 steps to about 4 flights if your in in one of the higher levels so you will need to be fit to get around it. the bathroom is very small but functional and clean. Air conditioning was in the room but worked only when the key tab inside the room (our key came off its tab so we could leave the aircon on but other room keys were welded to the tab so you may not be so lucky) there is no extra charge for the aircon. the pools are clean and well maintained - there is a small pool about 2 foot deep - another that is 3 ft to about 6ft and another that is 6ft all through. whilst we were there there were sufficient sunbeds for all though many people do not stay at the hotel pool as out on trips etc. there are many cane unbrella type shades too on wheels so you can move them round for shade which is essential in August. Breakfast is standard Turkish fayre - ham and cheese, olives - boiled eggs - cereal, bread and several jams and honey, yoghurt, tea and coffee. There is something that is supposed to be a toaster but I never managed to brown any bread with it but it does heat the bread up so it burns your fingers though ! for a surcharge of 4 lira they will cook an omlette but I never saw anyone have one - for 5 lira they will sqeeze fresh oranges for juice - never saw anyone take that offer up either. There is a snack bar at the poolside that does sandwiches, pizza, kebabs chips etc open from 11.30 to 3.30pm. at night they do a buffet type meal for those on half board or you can pay 15 lira - this is very good value - there is soup to start - then about 3 hot dishes - such as meatballs, roast lamb - fish fillets, chicken portions some nights - then a pasta dish such as spaghetti (strangely served with ketchup as the sauce ...yuk) maybe a hot veg such as grilled aubergines or cauliflower cheese or rice - then about 30-40 salad bowls. they also do a large selection of deserts so this is really really good value for 15 lira (my daughter is 9 and she ate free there too !) there is a bar also near the pool but drinks are not cheap - beer was 4 lira - martini 10 lira - spirits 12 lira - coke 3 lira - milkshakes 6 lira. no entertainment while we were there. there is a pool table which is free to use and also table tennis that is free. staff were very friendly and helpfull. the main killer is the walk up heart attack hill into the main town centre - its only about 500 yards but you need to be a mountain goat. (one guest at our hotel jogged up it one day and got a round of applause from everyone at the top, he says it nearly finished him off though ..lol). You need to take your own pool towells as the hotel do not provide them. Overall I was happy with my stay at the Pirat and felt that it was the best placed Hotel in the resort. Kalkan is hilly so be prepared for that. You can mail me if you need any more info Peter
wonderful Pirat!
The Pirat was wonderful, the staff friendly and kind. The accommodation was very lovely, the rooms and swimming pool were always clean. Wonderful views over the harbour and the food was very good and beautifully presented.
Location is fantastic
The hotel for a 3 star may be lacking some essentials however you cannot fault the location. Sit round the pool or at the pool bar and you are overlooking the marina. Within walking distance of the town and within stone's throw of the meditteranean, location sells this hotel definitely. If you wan't luxury go half a mile out of town like the regency etc however this is a good hotel with bath (unusual for turkey) with a good breakfast buffet within walking distance of bars and transport and 80% of rooms have seaview. Ask when booking for this. Also air condition available at a low supplement of about 18 euros per room per week. For the price you can't beat it. I have 2 kids and now rent a villa for security as pirat is to central for me however if was a couple would recommend it definitely.
