Rooms need updating and if you are...

Rooms need updating and if you are unlucky enough to be put at the back of the hotel there are a lot of steps to climb ours was over 100 steps up.
Also the policy of not being able to take any food or drink into the hotel unless you buy it at the hotel is ludicrous if you are caught doing this you are marched over to reception by the security staff in full view of all the other guests and if you are
found with anything on you it is taken away.
The pool area is not cleaned often enough and although you have got the stupid policy about the food and drink nothing is said about towels being put on the sun beds as early as 5am in the morning as we see people doing.
The hotel is in a nice position but can be really noisy late at night as some of the bars play really loud music which spoils the position of the hotel.
On the plus side all the staff and manager were really helpful.

The Pirat is in arguably the best...

The Pirat is in arguably the best position in Kalkan, right on the harbour front.
This does have a downside however as everything except the restaurants on the harbour side is up-hill, and the hill IS steep.
The hotel is large and is very clean. The rooms are average sized and are showing a bit of wear and tear, nothing drastic.
It is well worth paying the extra to be sure of a sea view as a few of the rooms only look onto the rear of the block in front and get very little natural light.
Food is much as you would expect in a larger hotel, with the caution that it is left uncovered most of the time.
Thee are two, pools plus kiddies with plenty of sunloungers.
The top rooms have a lot of steps to get to them, 124 to our room!
The other, older, block has a lift. Do not take a rear facing room there as the view is V POOR and passers by can look into some rooms from the steps up the hill side.
Not particularly noisy at night, although some of the bars in the town go on till late and the sound carries.
Overall the hotel is as described in brochures and we had no complaints there.
Kalkan and its people are like all Turkey, good.
One problem is the hills, not good for anyone with walking difficulties.
well worth going if you can walk OK.

Kalkan was simply beautiful, cobbled...

Kalkan was simply beautiful, cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings, typically Turkish and not too commercialised. The transfer was a bit gruelling but well worth it. The locals were very friendly and helpful and we had a lovely holiday.
The Hotel Pirat is in a lovely setting near the harbour with lots of restaurants nearby. The only drawback is what the locals call cardiac hill!! And the Pirat is right at the bottom (a little tip - there are some steps located behind the old Pirat Hotel block so you can stagger the journey and it brings you right out in the middle of Kalkan - much easier than the hill - believe us we know!! ) and you can only imagine what it was like in the middle of August.
The hotel rooms were basic but clean; make sure you are in the new block on the pool side as the older block across the road is not so nice. The pool area was lovely and peaceful and it was lovely to hear the nearby mosque going off at regular intervals.
There were plenty of sunloungers & the view from the pool area was awesome. The hotel staff were friendly and very polite. Would recommend going bed & breakfast as the evening buffet was passable but not wonderful - lots of wasps buzzing around the food.
Breakfast wasn’t great either but don’t let that put you off as there were lots of good places to eat in Kalkan and very reasonably priced too. Try the pancake shop near the Dolmus stop. Our only grumble was that there were no lifts and there were at least 50 steps to our room as we were on the top floor so carrying our cases was hard work!!.
Would we go back ? - yes without a doubt. Kalkan was one of the most picturesque places we’ve been too. Take the Dolmus to the next town of Kas - well worth a visit.
Dalaman airport was a real eye opener - it was like a Rugby scrum - see a space and aim for it, fighting off all your opponents!! Security was tight, they scan your cases before entering the airport, so we felt really safe.
Hope this review has been helpful & we hope you have as lovely a holiday as we had in Turkey.
