We spent 10 days at these villas in May and when we arrived we were greeted by Maria and Kostas and they were brilliant we were welcomed straight a way by fellow guests who became friends that helped make the holiday. Yanis the barman was a great barman as nothing was too... more

My wife and I live on the south coast of Crete and have 'holidayed' twice at Hersonissos for a couple of days at a time. If anyone expects self catering apartment to be that then they should pitch a tent somewhere and bring everything with them. We go self catering because... more

Brilliant place for young people. Owners and workers very friendly and helpful. One of the best bars in Crete The Fat Frog Bar. Apartments are grand and swimming pool caters for the size of the complex. Definetly going back next year.

Pool was filthy, apartments were tiny and were never cleaned. The complex was ran by a dictator who wouldnt allow bring outside drink into our apartments even though its clearly self catering. The whole complex left much to be desired. Surrounding area is nice. Night life on the strip was brilliant.

The Papadakis Villas are family run by Andonis, Angela and Penny their daughter. The family really tries hard to make sure you have the perfect holiday. The apartments are perfectly located half way between 2 historic villages and Hersonissos its self. The bar is open all... more

Not for young group of friends
We stayed in papadakis for a week long holiday after our exams. We had four rooms between us and all were different sizes, some were bigger than others, if you get a small one, they are very small. In one of the rooms the air conditioning was broken, we told the management about this but they didn't fix it till the second last day- the room was like a sauna and I onlt went in it once, it was unbearable. In my room the light in the bathroom went and wasn't fixed for four days which got extremely annoying at night time. If you are going with a group of friends I would not recommend to stay here, it is a small place and the craic was to be had further up the hill. Also there is a video on youtube from somebody which shows a room.
"Totally Chilling"
Had a wonderfull time here. Papadakis villa's is run by Kostas and Maria with the help of lefaris in the bar. We was made so welcome , nothing was to much trouble for them. The rooms were basic but we had everything that we need. We spent a lot of time chilling out round by the Pool and the greek salads are too die for . Organic ingrediants grown by Maria's father. Lovely Lovely people. A holiday to remember and I will definately be going back.
Fully recharged
After a busy year we really needed somewhere we could chill out and recharge, and we found it at the Papadakis Villas Apartments! The owners, Kostas and Maria, and bar staff, Lefteris (sorry about the spelling!) were spot on. They were always happy to help and very skilled at making a real variety of drinks! The apartments are brilliantly placed, halfway between the busy town of Hersonissos and the quieter villages of Koutouloufari and Piscopiano, which offer an endless choice of places to eat, and buy anything. The rooms were basic, but typical Greek style, with all you'd need for your stay, and the pool was a great relief for the hot weather. Now recharged and hoping to return in September this year.
Just what we wanted
Excellent location, enabled us easy access to busy port or a simple walk uphill to a lovely village. The owners Maria and Kostas very very helpful, nothing to much trouble and Kostas has a great Greek sense of humour, they recommended some great cheap tavernas away from the expensive front. Accomodation, basic clean and great value for money, basic food menu, try the Greek salad, YUM. Everyone made to feel welcome and there was a great family atmosphere. Girlfriend got seriously ill on the second day and Maria and Kostas could not have helped more. THANKS. We will be back. Truly calm and relaxing place to stay. Beware of Kostas CCTV on the swimming pool!!
Lovely place, lovely people basic but very clean Greek style rooms
The rooms are basic but very clean in blues and whites a very comfortable bed a wet room Greek style, room cleaned towels changed etc three times and we were only there for eight days. We do not drink and were not made to feel unwelcome which has happened to us when we have been to Crete before, as we are not sitting in the bar drinking so we are not as profitable as some guests, but if you like a drink the bar is nice and well run by Costas and his family the bar food is very good according to my mother, my husband is a gyros freak so we didn’t eat at the bar the villages at the top of the hill all did very good food the sea front not so good a lot of the little extras have gone, as we all are watching our budgets food not as fresh majority of fish in batter so I would think frozen, if you want a good meal go to the villages up the hill. It is 5/10 min walk from town to Papadakis Villas its an easy walk my mom needs a new hip and she was fine.
Incredible family run accomodation - great for all ages
Booked through TravelRepublic.co.uk My girfriend and myself went here for a week last year - think it was August. Main objective was to relax and spend some time together - romantic getaway you could say. There was a bit of confusion with the transfer, we couldnt find it! But some guy saw us looking confused and sorted us out which was nice. As we got close to the apartment we saw the clubs and kebab shops and started to worry, but its actually not a problem. Read on... The apartments are located in the middle of everything yet has nothing around it...if you walk 5 minutes up the hill you get access to 3 of the old villages, where there are cobble streets and lots of excellent restaurants with amazing views over crete. If you walk down the hill towards the harbour, you have access to all the nightlife. Its not exactly magaluf but it looked good for a lads/girls week away. During the day, the clubby harbour area tranforms into a nice area to have a walk and grab a few drinks or a bite to eat. There are lots of nice restaurants around. Costas and his brother runs the Papadakis villas for his father in law - we met him, plus Costas wife and their babies. Costas and his brother will do anything for you to ensure you have a great stay - they're top guys. Costas reccommended beaches, restaurants, quad hire stations, places to go on the quad etc that we wouldnt have found without him. Hiring a quad was the best thing we did - without it, we wouldnt have found all the nice beaches that we did. I would really reccomend getting one - if you are safe and considerate, you will be fine. Its the kids who go mad that get hurt. Search this place on google and find costas on bebo - you can book with him direct to save money. Top marks - going back this year in September.
will return no problem
Very freindly staff. Good position , slight hill, toilel flushed, shower worked, room clean, bed ok £81 for week for s/c room for two .
Fantastic holiday!!
My boyfriend and I have just returned from the best 2 weeks holiday ever. It was our first visit to Crete and it was bliss. It was a total chilling holiday from start to finish. We booked online including shuttle transfer and even though some of the reviews about Papadakis were a bit iffy!! the majority were good so we risked it. We arrived at the airport and were met by the transfer people and were delivered to our apartment by Mercedes no less. The taxi driver telephoned the owner (we arrived early) and Costa came and let us into our room. Its a very small place (17 apartments) and so friendly we felt as though we'd been there forever. We went to our small, basic, clean apartment, (no kettle so take a travel kettle) complete with double bed, balcony, cooker, fridge, no tv but we knew that and theres a big one in the bar. We had a nap and awoke to explore and were delighted with the location. It was on a hillside 10 minute walk down to Hersonnisos, 10 minutes uphill to Koutoulafari and 15 minutes to Piskopianno. Nothing was too much trouble, our loo wouldnt flush and costa was there in seconds and fixed it, there was always plenty of hot water. The fat frog bar sells lovely cold beer and food. We visited the aqua park which was brilliant fun and only 15 minutes on a bus. We took a crazy boat trip to SIssi which is a beautiful place and a must do visit is Knossos but we went on the local buses and not an organised tour but a definate must is a guide. Its a fascinating place but without a tour guide you miss so much. My boyfriend is 46 and im 56 and I was worried it would be a bit frantic but the beauty of our apartment was we could please ourselves either be noisy or quiet. I cannot recommend it highly enough but I cant vouch for what its like in August (Cretes busiest time) we will certainly go back I told Costa to keep an eye out for this review so if you see it costa thanks so much for a wonderful holiday and trust me we will be back xx to the twins
Basic apartments give a choice of raving Hersonissos or quiter villages
Basic, reasonably clean appartments with quite dated but functional furnishings, in a pretty envirnoment with potted plants and vines. There is a small pool and sunbed area adjacent to a small and nice bar "The Fat Frog" which serves basic snacks as well as drinks. Overall, I'd say it was about a 2-star standard. The location is good, a short walk up a steep hill from raving Hersonissos. Another short walk from the apartments further up the hill takes you to the quieter villages of Piscopiano (right) and Koutoulofari (left), where there are also many restaurants and bars. Further on past Piscopiano, there is the quiter village of old Hersonissos, which has restalurants but no bars. The lower apartments get little sun, but this did mean that in mid June, at least, we were able just to do without air-conditioning (additional charge) by keeping the windows and shutters closed during the day. There was no view from our 1-bed apartment on the lower level, but there were a table and chairs by the door in a pleasent but not private courtyard. We had a limited amount of sun there in the evening. The apartments on the upper floor, in contrast, have sunny balconies. The water was heated is by solar power; consequently, there was ample hot water by late afternoon but sometimes only lukewarm water in the morning. The shower was weak and you had to hold the shower head by hand. The bathroom is a typical Greek wetroom with a drain in the floor rather than a shower curtain. There were no electric wires sticking out of the walls as you find in in some Greek apartments and neither any gas water heater in our apartment. There were some shortish flights of stairs steps with no railings to prevent you falling off the sides, and the tiled floors could be a bit slippery when the plants had just been watered. The bed sheets were changes once during our week stay, and the toilet paper bin was emptied once, which seemed a bit too infrequent. The majority of the group of guests were young Irish folk who enjoyed going out all night drinking until the early hours. There was some noise from returning guests and partying during the early hours but it was not excessive, though it did wake us up on several occasions. Kostos and his wife Maria run the apartments and are both very nice and friendly, as were the bar staff. Kostos is there almost 24 hours a day and manages to keep order amongst the more rowdy guests. The cheapest way to find the apartments is to take the KTEL Minoan Lines bus heading for Malia from the airport and alight at stop number 20 in Hersonissos. The fare was EUR2.90 each, the buses are comfortable and have luggage area underneath for cases, and according to thge published timetable they run every half hour from 06.30 till 21.30 every day. (We didn't manage to find the airport bus stop on our way from the airport, so I can't verify the outward trip, but we used the bus on our return with no problems.) From bus stop number 20 in Hersonissos, you can walk on a few metres and take a taxi from the taxi rank. Alternatively, walk slightly back along the main road, then take the side street by the SPAR shop, past the aquarium, and keep going stright on uphill until you reach a roundabout. Turn left here, and the apartments are up the hill on the left at a right-hand bend in the road. You will emter at the Fat Frog bar. There are small beaches across the main road in Hersonissos down at the main strip of bars and restaurant on the front. A better beach can be found by turning left at on the main strip at the sea front and walking along past the port , following the road as it turns back on itself at the rocky headland. Futher afield, a car, bus or scooter ride away on the old national road back towards Heraklion, is nice, sandy Amnissos beach.
Pretty Papadakis
We stayed in the Papadakis Apartments in Oct.05. We found the location very good, being half way between Piskopiano and Hersonnosis. Tha apartments were clean but basic. The staff were very friendly and helpful, as were the owners. Thl lower apartments were in shade but the upper ones got lots of sun!! The pool was clean but small. The bar serves food, but we didn't eat there so we can't give our opinion, but what we saw others having looked good. These are very pretty apartments having lots of potted plants around the place which make a beautiful colourful display.
