My wife and I live on the south coast of Crete and have 'holidayed' twice at Hersonissos for a couple of days at a time. If anyone expects self catering apartment to be that then they should pitch a tent somewhere and bring everything with them. We go self catering because we get a bed, toilet, shower, kettle and a fridge. Why should we need anything more. The rooms cater for your basic needs which is reflected in the price. Maria, Kostas and Yianis are plesent, sociable and very helpful. The pool isn't dirty and we are allowed to take our own drinks to our apartment. Some peop;e want all for nothing. They'd probably complain at the Ritz.

We arrived at Papadakis Villas 2am after travelling from Gatwick through the night..The resort was closed but there was a note on the "Fat frog" bar door asking late arrivals to phone the mob no shown.(Fortunately we had our phones)with us... Kostas turned up over an hour later.. We were very hot and tired and thirsty. Kostas sold us a bottle of water for 2 euros.. very expensive! 25-30 cents downtown. He showed us into our apartment which was ver small and didnt look clean at all. only a sink drainer. No where to prepare food.. I could have cried.. We had to spend 10 days here. I have rented some very basic apartments as i lived abroad for ten years in various countries.. Never have i ever felt so cheated.. The hotrings were useless one of which didnt work properly so we couldnt cook our own breakfast as planned.. Breakfast at Fat frog bar per person (5 euros + 2 euros cup of tea or coffee.. Had we have eaten there it would have been approx 21 euros per morning.. We ate up in Koutouloufari each morning for 4 euros each (tea/coofee) included.. Wasnt allowed to eat ice creams/lollies around pool which we had bought in from outside.. Maria said for Tax purposes.. My god being from uk, i thought we were the TAX nation..! Couldnt eat on our balcony as Wooden rail rotted and broken. Very dangerous.. Pointed this out to Kostas.. said he didnt think it was that bad.. I wasnt taking any chances..! Had our daughter fell to the next floor (20 ft) she would definately have seriously injured herself or ??.. Kostas and Maria will be your bestest friends as long as you are spending money there..and freedom will allways make sure your glass is never empty.. Long as you are paying.. We went on a budget.. and spent around £1800.... My advise if you want to travel to Crete PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM CRAPADAKIS VILLAS... I will take the time to upload pictures of our apartment.. Which i find odd the people who placed the fantastic reviews failed to do ??

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday to the papadakis villas, they are typical greek accomodation just what you expect, but the owners Kostas and Maria are not whatyou usually expect in owners they broke the mould when they made these two, absolutely fantastic nothing too much trouble always acknowledge you with a wave and a smile, thankyou both. The linen was changed every other day bins emptied the same.Food at the bar excellent ,greek salad the best we have had in a very long time, chicken wrap also to die for. They hold a weekly all you can eat bbq 15euros pp,not keen on bbqs so didnt go.Villas setting very pretty and done in blue and white and set halfway between Hersonissos down hill and the villages of Koutouloufari and old Hersonissos up the hill both within 10mins of apartments. These are definately apartments i would highly recomend and would definately use again.Only one niggle and that is would be nice to have a toaster (petty i know)but that is only gripe we had .

Perfect location...near the sea, shopping area and near an old village (10 minutes walk maximum for each). Kostas and Maria are very friendly owners an will go out of their way to help every time. Lefteris the barman is a legend... but you will have to go and find out why!!! Rooms are basic with air con and safe box as an option but this is standard practice in Crete. More importantly they are very clean and kept this way! Kostas will give you great unbiased advice so listen to him for the best restaurants etc as other people in that town can have favoritism to some restaurants so they can get free food etc. If you don't fancy eating out Maria's mom is a mean cook and 'Mama's special' is a different daily Cretan special priced at about 5 euros each which is a bargain considering how fresh and delicious it is!! There were so many people who stayed when I was there that said as they left that they would be back next year and were of all ages which sums it up really!!!

Brilliant place for young people. Owners and workers very friendly and helpful. One of the best bars in Crete The Fat Frog Bar. Apartments are grand and swimming pool caters for the size of the complex. Definetly going back next year.

Pool was filthy, apartments were tiny and were never cleaned. The complex was ran by a dictator who wouldnt allow bring outside drink into our apartments even though its clearly self catering. The whole complex left much to be desired. Surrounding area is nice. Night life on the strip was brilliant.

The Papadakis Villas are family run by Andonis, Angela and Penny their daughter.
The family really tries hard to make sure you have the perfect holiday. The apartments are perfectly located half way between 2 historic villages and Hersonissos its self.
The bar is open all day and night and a great deal of fun is had by all. The rep for the apartments was Nick and he could not do enough for us during our stay, he was always around offering advice and just making us laugh. (Thanks Nick!).
I would advise anyone to stay here.

We spent 10 days at these villas in May and when we arrived we were greeted by Maria and Kostas and they were brilliant we were welcomed straight a way by fellow guests who became friends that helped make the holiday. Yanis the barman was a great barman as nothing was too much bother for him a GREAT GREAT holiday. It is in a good location and is basic and clean. You do have to respect their tax laws but remember this is Greece the country that has problems with the euro.
Every body is different and its not every body's ideal holiday but most of the people we met there was looking to rebook again, I know we are going back next year.
