First of all don’t panic, if you...

Jul 2007, Mr P Vennard

First of all don’t panic, if you read any reviews you are probably filled with dread. I believe the hotel is worth a go, just check whether your room has air conditioning, and has been refurbished.
The grounds are immaculately kept as are the newly refurbished rooms Twin B block.
They have air conditioning, fridge, and TV. The bathroom and shower is nice and was kept very clean. The balcony overlooked the salt water pool and the beach. The hotel has a further 6 pools, some of which are shallow for children.
Sun loungers and umbrellas by the main pool are free, but you need to get in early (7am!) however you can hire others for use in the gardens or on the beach for a couple of Euros.
The food was fairly good, large amounts of fresh salad, meats, potatoes, and chips. Something for everyone. Although a little repetitive after a week. The dining rooms are separated into different nationalities with the British separated from the other Europeans. I can only assume that is down to menu rather than fears of sparking an international incident!
The hotel has around 900 rooms with a fairly diverse mix of holiday makers. There are a lot of French and German visitors and other Eastern European countries. To be fair there weren’t many Brits there. However all of entertainment and information is spoken in English.
Day time entertainment consisted of poolside activities with my girlfriend particularly enjoyed the aerobics and aqua aerobics. Other activities included darts, water polo, and volley ball. To be fair we didn’t sample the evening cabaret style entertainment however it sounded reasonable. We tended to take the short walk to Messonghi where bars prices are cheaper. I would recommend looking at the prices before you buy they can vary.
The drinks in the hotel were expensive €2 for 250mls of diet coke and €2.80 for 330mls of larger. However the Towns outside of the village offer coke at €1.50 and local larger Mythos at €2.50 for 500mls.
We do not have children, but there are a few children’s clubs and entertainment for children during the day time along with the shallow pools.
The first choice reps were helpful offering advice and trips. We decided to get ourselves around the island using the local green bus which was cheap €1.90 to Corfu Town. They were fairly regular with Air conditioning on the newer ones. Transfers to Aqua land proved difficult.
Looking at the other reviews I can only assume the accommodation referred to was the un-modernised rooms. On our last day we booked a late check out and were moved rooms. The second room had no air condition was extremely hot and very basic, in need of modernisation.

I have just got back from an amazing...

Jun 2007, Miss S Knight

I have just got back from an amazing holiday at this resort. After reading the reviews from other holiday makers I was quite concerned about what it would be like.
Well I certainly didn’t need to worry. Me and my partner arrived at the resort in the early hours of the morning so was very tired. We was greeted by the reception and they guided us to our room. We was staying in the twins which had a lovely view over looking one of the pools and the beach was literally a few steps away from the pool.
The rooms was very modern with its natural colour decor and flat screen TV (which I thought was quite up market) We did have air conditioning but later found out to get it to work you had to pay 8 Euros a day (a joke if u ask me) we also found out from our rep that we was one of the few blocks that had air con.
The cleanliness of the room was very good and the resort seemed to be the same apart from the hotels public toilets.
The food was quite nice and had a wide selection. Breakfast wasn’t very nice though but it was because the way that they cooked their food. You could opt for fruit, yoghurt, toast, or cereal so there was something for everyone. Dinner was pretty much the same everyday but it did cater for children as well as adults.
I have noticed that a lot of people have commented on the amount of Germans and Russians. Well there is a wide range of nationalities there. We found that the hotel tried to split us up e.g. different restaurants (we was placed with the French) the pools tended to be mixed because you could choose what you want.
The evening entertainment I thought was mainly aimed at us English. Every now and again a lady would get up and speak in some of languages so that other people knew what was going on. Many people did speak our language though so it was easy to get by.
Overall an excellent holiday the reps was very helpful and friendly. Any problems and they will get it sorted for you. It is a very large complex that is beautiful and will suit any party weather you’re a family with kids or a couple I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

This is the worst place I have ever...
1 / 10
Oct 2006, Mr P House

This is the worst place I have ever been to. We arrived at 2.30 in the morning, we had paid extra to stay in the bungalows, but they look like converted cow sheds, and smell like it too.
We were told to wait in reception, as we would be taken to our room. After a short wait a man turned up in a beat up old transit style van, threw our cases and other couples cases in the back and told us to get in the back. When I say in the back it was in the back. Not a great start.
When we got to our room, there was dog poo on the step outside, when you opened the door you got a whiff of damp and sewage.
Our room was infested with ants, the beds were damp and very scruffy. We changed rooms 4 times, the last room had a leek in the ceiling and as we had 3 days of non stop storms, the water was dripping on the bed, we were told by the unhelpful staff to push our bed to the other end of the room. First choice rep was not helpful either.
The complex is full of Germans and French, and every thing is catered for them.
The bar prices in the hotel change as to what bar your sitting in.
The beach is like an old back water, full of stones and dead seaweed. I have given this place a rating of 1 but it should be minus 10. The place is a complete dive, avoid it at all cost. You have been warned.

I booked the holiday last minute via...
1 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs J Pritchard

I booked the holiday last minute via a travel agent, and then checked the reviews and was very worried about what we might find when we arrived at the hotel. The worries were justified. The hotel is like a pontins holiday camp for the Germans, French, Italians, Hungarians, and Dutch & Croatians.
The hotel grounds are huge and well maintained. The facilities are good, there is 4 swimming pools, with children’s pool, there is a children’s playground, a games room, a kids club, a children’s disco and entertainment, a mini train that takes you around the hotel, and you can hire children’s battery operated jeeps and quads.
However, the hotel needs updating and painting. The rooms are basic but adequate. There was no air conditioning in our block (riverside) and the bathroom was grotty. We tried to hire a security deposit box (which is in reception area) but was told there was none available. Our room was broken into.
We reported it to the rep, she sent us to the police station which is in Benitses- a 10-15 min taxi ride away. We went on 2 occasions and they wouldn't give us a police report. The rep was not concerned about it at all and was reluctant to help us.
On an evening, the drains smelt of sewage- around the riverside block, on one occasion we had bought a drink before dinner in the bar downstairs and left it because the smell was so strong it made me feel sick.
The restaurant is not much fun! Finding a table for 5 people is difficult as is it so busy, most of the table only seat 4. They do not cater for children or vegetarians (except for salad), I have both in my family. The chips are like scraps and aren't edible. The foreigners especially the Germans & the French are extremely rude and push past you-even the children- they have no manners or concept of queuing. After 8pm is a better time to wait to eat as it is not as busy (that’s if the kids can wait that long) don’t have breakfast in the hotel as it is rubbish, the only thing edible was the toast.
The kid’s disco- all the songs are in foreign languages, the entertainment team translate what’s happening in about 4 or 5 different languages accept English-where you might get a brief sentence if you are lucky. It gets packed, so you better get a seat for about 7.30. We only stayed in the hotel for 2 evenings as the drinks are really expensive, although they have a happy hour where you get 2 drinks for the price of one. The drinks prices seemed to fluctuate and got higher as the evening went on.
The English are definitely not catered for at this hotel.
The beach is scruffy and pebbly, and there is loads of dead seaweed at the edge of the sea. My toddlers would not go on the beach as it hurt their feet, if you are beach lovers, then go to the north of the island or buy some swimming shoes, as we had cuts on our feet.
The village of Moraitika is nice, plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and is only an 8 minute walk away to the right at the end of the hotel grounds. The supermarkets there are cheaper and have more choice. Messonghi village is tiny and a case of blink and you miss it.
The saving grace to our holiday was Kids World, which if you turn left at the end of the hotel grounds is approx 500 metres away. It has an indoor play area, a bouncy castle and loads of toddler toys and they serve alcohol for the adults and are open late and better still there is a lock on the gate so the children can run riot and the parents can relax. My children are aged 16, 3 & 2, even the 16 year old liked going, as the owner would get her to help. The owner Spiros is really friendly, you have to keep your tab and at the end of the evening tell him what you've had. Also across the road from kid’s world is a lovely restaurant called Zaks Tavern, the people are friendly and the food is lovely.
Don't pay for excursions with the reps as they are a lot cheaper in Moraitika and are exactly the same. Corfu town is beautiful, we took a horse and carriage ride around the town, which cost 50 euros but was well worth it. There is a McDonalds, marks & Spencer’s and some posh shops as well as loads of touristy shops.
We also went on a boat trip with Nik the Greek, to mainland Greece, which cost 60 Euros for 5 of us, but with first choice was 145 euros. It was lovely, it stops off at a few bays for a swim and at Sivota Village for shopping and lunch, and goes to some caves. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for toddlers, as the bays are pebbly and you have to climb down a ladder plus it is a really long day, it sets off at 9.30 and didn't arrive back until 6.30; but if you have older children or are single it is a great day out. It goes from the beach at the side of the hotel.
Be warned the airport at Corfu Town is tiny and you have to queue outside in the blazing sun to check in and then again inside the airport. You have to be in the check-in queue or you cannot stay in the airport, and security walks round kicking people out. If you get delayed- you also have to wait outside.
I would never go to this hotel again as it is awful.

Jul 2006, Mrs D Mitchell

When we arrived we discovered our accommodation was a two bedded room with an extra bed - totally unsuitable as there was 4 of us, had to pay for an upgrade to a bungalow, which had bunk beds with no rail to stop the children falling out, which eventually one did and we couldn't get ice for her head as the bar was shut!
We had requested an air-conditioned room which we didn't get and had to hire a fan. We also had to pay for sun loungers which weren't told about when we booked. The drains were blocked and smelling outside the door and when they fixed this we were infested with ants.
The plugs fell out the sockets on the wall and there was no sense of order at mealtimes and could only be described as a feeding frenzy! The food was so repetitive. I really liked this area of Corfu but would not recommend this hotel as their safety standards are very antiquated and definitely a hazard for children. Would not meet British standards.
Both the children and my husband ended up with sore ears from the pool. Definitely not the best holiday we have had. Will visit Corfu again, but won't be staying in the Mesonghi Beach complex.

The only thing I enjoyed on the...

Jun 2006, Miss L Wade

The only thing I enjoyed on the holiday was the near by beach. The hotel seems to be a money making hotel which only caters for Germans. At breakfast was only egg and toast with tea or coffee.
Extra breakfast was available if you paid more. Dinner was worse, we found hair in our food and everyday was the same meals. All I had every day was pasta and chips. Rooms were very basic. You had to pay for sun beds round the pool and on the beach, I wouldn’t mind but the weather was good and bad so you can never be there all day.
The hotel really cater for Germans through entertainment as of evenings and also in the mini club for kids. They can not speak much English at all. This hotel should not be in a English brochure and only for Germans.

Rooms are basic but spotlessly clean....

Jun 2006, Mr P Sissons

Rooms are basic but spotlessly clean. Hotel bar is expensive go to Stavros bar he’s lovely and its very cheap and nice food. Hotel breakfast is bread eggs jam and cereal you can get a cooked English breakfast at Maxims.
Dinner was lovely you get a good choice of menu and the food was delicious but its practically first come first served because the Germans are so greedy they push and shove you out of the way. The entertainment is based mainly around the Germans which by the way the hotel is full of. There’s plenty for kids and teenagers to do games room internet and parks. The pools are beautifully maintained and warm.
Its right on the beach with plenty of water sports on offer. We had a fantastic holiday we didn’t get put of by the Germans and we will definitely be going back next year though to a different hotel.

Oct 2005, Mrs H Blood

We arrived in torrential rain and were allocated a room away from the main hotel building and immediately found ourselves wading through who knows what, as all the drains were overflowing, just to get to our accommodation. First impression was shabby! There were bare wires in the hallway and curtains hanging down.
Our room was described as basic, so we didn’t expect frills but the shower was hand held, the balcony was flooded and water was seeping into the room and everything felt very unclean and extremely damp. We paid to change room and heard later that several people had changed rooms, some up to 4 times! It is a big complex with about 2,000 residents that week, probably 95% Germans so the food seemed to be geared for them so it was a good idea to avoid early evening although if you left it a bit late there wasn’t a lot left. This is the first holiday we have had in many years of travelling that we were glad when the last day arrived!!

Sep 2005, Mrs A Cole

Hotel was disgusting. On line it was noted as being a 3 star but was only rated 2 star when we reached destination. Very very basic, badly in need of maintenance. We had to pay an extra 30 Euros to upgrade to a better room. this was exactly the same as the original room apart front he fact that it had been painted last year. Food was awful very bland and very little selection. Also island full of mosquitoes and wasps which we were not warned about prior to departure.
From the outside the hotel looks gorgeous but once inside you find that the majority of staff and unhelpful saying that they do not understand english but seem to manage when they need to!. It was very obvious that the hotel needs an awful lot of money spent on maintenance. In the rooms we found light fittings hanging by their cables and not their brackets. Charges for sun beds even around hotel pool.
Although I have given it an overall rating of 1 it is more likely to be a minus 10 rating!

Having been to Greece before I knew...
5 / 10
Aug 2005, Mrs C Cormier

Having been to Greece before I knew what to expect i.e. Basic Rooms.
On first impression the Hotel looks exactly like in brochure-35 acre land with well kept gardens and flowers-pal tress etc was really nice.
Reception staff attitude a bit to be desired (certain members)
Rooms very basic, toilet, shower unit with hand held shower.
Staff work very hard. Cleaners never stopped and the restaurant staff worked though the resort in other areas once breakfast was finished.
Continental Breakfasts were served every day.
Although this is sold as a family resort, I personally do not think they cater for Children as I had a 7 year old with me, and if they were catering for every nationality it must of been the chips for the Brits. Most of the meat dishes were cooked in sauces and I did see most kids plates empty because of the lack of assortment for children.
7 Swimming pools/kids arcade/park etc they make up for this, the activities are superb, although we did not send 7 yr old to kids club as were advised if we had problems with the staff, then 1 of the English speaking Entertainment staff would help.
Own private beach but they charge 250 Euro for sunbeds so take lilt’s cheaper.
They cater for you on the beach with bars/ice creams/drinks/grill bar but remember you are on half board so need to pay for these!!.
Entertainment repetitive kids disco every night.
Although they have 3 bars and have happy hours in the bars at different times.
Don’t stay on the resort - its a 7 min walk to town of Moraikata
prices are cheaper in town than on the resort for a lot things.
There is also a kids world with bouncy castle costing 3 Euros for kids with drunk included and sell alcohol for adults.
All in all I would go back again as weather was lovely, resort nice and staff very pleasant- only downfall is they need to sort out restaurant for kids!!!

Hotel looks lovely when you pull up...

Jun 2005, Miss E

Hotel looks lovely when you pull up it is very big has lots of swimming pools, bars, parks, arcades places to eat and it is right on the beach.
However the food is awful we only ate there when we had to most of the time we went to a place outside the hotel. The entertainment was awful my son is 19mths old and wanted to join in dancing and singing with the team. Unfortunately we are English and not German so he was ignored for the best part of the holiday.
Our saving grace was a place called kids world (turn left out of hotel and walk for about 10mins it on the left opposite zaks) this place is great for kids it’s sealed off with toys, bouncy castle, soft play area where the parents can sit and drink and the staff keep an eye on the kids!!
Wouldn’t go back again rooms are ok nothing special and there is often a funny smell around the hotel.
