Portofino Apartments reviews

Easter break
8 / 10
Apr 2012, Nee1835

We were supposed to stay at the Deya but were transferred to the Portofino on arrival. The apartment was much bigger than expected and was spotless. The balcony overlooked the sea and this was a quieter part of town, better suited to our age group (mid fifties) I came armed with my Dettol wipes but could not find any muck in the kitchen or bathroom. We reported the kitchen light not working in the morning and it was fixed by lunchtime. The staff were lovely and helpful. I agree that the 2 ring cooker was useless but we hadn't intended cooking anyway. We hired an electric kettle for 2 Euros a day. I braved the pool which was also clean but cold. For a great meal go to Rickies, just to the left of the entrance. We ate there for 4 of the 5 nights as the meals were so good. For the money paid you couldn't complain or fault these apartments.

Very clean and comfortable appt little basic need to up date kitchen equiptment but nice appt.Great location 1 min over the road to a buitifull beach, shops very close and the hotel pool very clean.Need to invest in sun beds not enough and most of them broken. For a cheap break it is ideal 7 days was long enough as needed to get some sleep at home as very noisey at night with people walking up and down stairs right outside the bedroom.

My partner and I stayed here for 1 week with his 6 year old son and had a brilliant time!
It was the first time I had been to Santa Ponsa and the first time I had been to self catering apartments so I was unsure what to expect-especially as there are very few pictures of these apartments online! Was more than pleasantly suprised!
The rooms are massive-loads of space for all of us, clean and tidy and staff are friendly. Pools are great and if travelling with a family you really can't beat the location-2 mins from beach, 5-10 mins from lively nighttime entertainment, 5 mins from taxi rank and bus station. Air con in rooms is great-balconys are north facing so no sun on them but that just helps to keep the whole place cooler in high summer. now realise can get remote from aircon at reception on hire for 20euro-we just turned it on at the unit and left it on the whole time. 2 rings to cook on-basic cutlerey, crockery and pans. Great views from higher floors (unfortuntely we were on the 1st floor but they seemed to put all guests with young kids and babies here so it wasnt too bad-certainly not noisy!)
Beware EVERYTHING is expensive thanks to the Euro exchange rate!!! In a week we spent close to 1000 euro and were were only eating out in the evenings!!! There is a supermarket beside the apartments but if you walk 20mins there's an Eroski supermarked where everything is cheaper-unfortunately we didn't discover it until day 3!
Loads of really nice places to eat-dinner for 2 adults and child plus drinks 40-50 euros-so not too bad.
No bars open around the pool which was a bit of a dissappointment seeing as it was peak season, although I think most people went to the beach as we never had any problems getting sunbeds at any time of the day. Scottish corner bar really friendly and family run with bouncy castle for wee ones and drinks at reasonable prices.
Pirates well worth going to see-shop around to get the best deals on tickets. Magaluf more for teenagers than familes-can't say we were too impressed with it.
Would highly reccomend Santa Ponsa and the Portofino/Sorrento Apartments to families and couples looking a relaxing sunshine break!

my husband and myself have stayed in the portofino appartments about 10 times over the past 15 yrs we found them to be clean friendly and quiet. except in sept due to the festival but if you take part then its fine ,well you are on holiday .there is use of two pool areas the top one has brill views over the bay .and when you are at the pool it is so quiet . the beach is straight across the road so youcan leave your towel and come up for lunch ,there are some loveley eating places as well as entertainment on your doorstep or you can venture out for the day as the main bus route is at the bottom of the streat i would highly recomend the portofino the balcony is large as is the sitting riim loveley kitchen area and bedroom tucked away at the back all in all my fav place on earth .

Just back from the Portofino...

Just back from the Portofino apartments. Had booked with Seguro who went out of business when we were there but our rep was fantastic and kept us up to date with info on flights home. Got home on the day we were supposed to so no problems there. We found these apartments to be in an excellent location right next the beach which i must say was well looked after. Plenty of bars and restuarants round about and only a short walk to the main area with a lot more bars and pubs. The apartments were spacious and clean and our towels were changed 3 times in the week and the sheets changed once (although they tell you that the sheets wont be changed unless you are there for 2 weeks). There is aircon in the apartment although you need to pay 20 euros for the remote as some people were stealing them!!! But you get the 20 euros back at the end of your holiday. There is also a safe in the room which again is 20 euros but you only get 6 euros back at the end. The apartment had a nice pool and we were also allowed to use the pool belonging to the other apartments. Drinks and snacks were available at the pool bar. The lady who runs this bar is lovely. (cant remember her name). Staff in the apartments not that friendly and do not tolerate any noise at all! My daughter and her friend were sitting in the foyer one day and were having a laugh and they were told to be quiet!!! Rickys bar right next door is excellent for food and do great scottish breakfasts. There was a festival on when we were there and there was live music every night (sometimes till 4.30 in the morning) but was great to join in with all the locals and there was a fantastic firework display on the last night of the festival. Overall we loved Santa Ponsa and the Portofino apartments and are looking to go back next year again.

we r just back from portofino....santa ponsa, santa ponsa was great and view was lovely and just across from the beach ,as far as self catering goes the portofino was the basic of the basic!!! no kettle,no microwave,1 pot and some plates.. fridge was disgusting, apts was obviously given a quick clean!!!! take cleaning wipes with u because this was the 1st time the worktops had been given a good clean the worktops were disgusting...ask for a high floor as a low floor very noisy with traffic etc,had about 10hr sleep all week....beds went out in the 60,s and look as if they have been there since then as well.....but all in all had a lovely time but u have 2 pay for air con, hire of mirowave, safe etc so that cost about 100 euro before ur hols start....having a baby with me we needed basic stuff like that and u would expect all this stuff for free with s/c but not here......when we 1st arrived we had rude staff but when lizbeth came on she was more than helpful....make sure u hire out the safe as tha patio doors do not lock and anybody can come in and steel ur stuff.... they were not interested in this... i would defo go back 2 santa ponsa but not portofino rickies is ace for food as is all round the potofino so u have lots 2 choose from pool was lovely and pool bar was ace.....hope this helps u 2 take some necessties that a s/c should provide........2 star is 2 much for this accomodation..... more like a hostel......

I have just returned from these...

I have just returned from these apartments yesterday. First i would like to say santa ponsa is a lovely place, but i found the staff in the portofino to be extremely rude. I traveled with my husband and 2 girls, we were on our 5th day of holiday and had still not seen a maid or had clean towels or sheets, when i reported this to lizbeth at the desk she basically called me a liar and was rude, however she called the maids and we got clean towels. On our 7 th day i asked for clean sheets and was told sheets get changed on a sat which ment ona 14 day hol on one change of sheets, on return to our room in disgust the maids had left their trolly on our floor so i took clean sheets to change the beds myself, what a mistake that was, th next afternoon returning from market i found 2 maids the manager and his son all in my apartment with beds pulled out, the manager was shouting in my face because i took clean sheets saying i took the law into my own hands, if i didnt have a full week left i would have booked into another hotel as these people are not capable of running a hotel.
On a good note, the views are great we were on the 4th floor which looks on the beach. rickies just under the hotel is fab and so is the scottish corner 2 mins away. If going with young kids the scottish corner is a must it has free bouncy castle and ps2, dance mat and loads of other games for kids. I found the irish square more for young ones but the scottish square for families. i went to 2 of the lagest markets looking for bags ect, for some reason they dont sell fake bags these can be found at good prices in the scottish square.
Take more money than you normally would do not just because euro poor just now but overall very very expensive. avg cost for breakfast is eround 26 euros for 4 and a vodka and coke 5 euros which is normally watered down.
well i hope this helps and you have a grat holiday.

me and my two friends have just got...

me and my two friends have just got back from spending a week here, we were advised to go to the apartments, our sheets were only changed once which isnt enough. when we asked for more clean sheets we were told no cause we were only there for a week.we also had to buy cleaning products aswell bleach etc, other girls we met who were on the first floor had to get another person that was on hoilday to come and remove a cockroatch from there apartment as the staff didnt take them on.
the staff werent friendly either, wee are 3 young girls that was lookin for a relaxing hoilday with some fun included, but we were told that we were not allowed to speak after 12 oclock at night walking into the apartments and our high heeled shoes were making to much noise as we were walking in at night, which is shocking,we spoke to other families with young kids who got warnings for speaking when they came in at night aswell.another family who sang happy birthday to there son on there balcony also recieved a written warning aswell, after all people go on hoilday to have some fun,so dnt go here if u want to even breath at nyt coz u arent allowed, also they try to to say that they give you two keys when you only recieve one and they try to charge you 20 euros for the key that you dnt recieve.
santa ponsa is a good place to go but you need to be celtic daft (which i am ) but it was a bit much every night, its mostly just irish bars with rebal music playing every night.
must say rickies is the best place for food by far gd service and good prices also so 10/10 for there.
another comment i must say the irish girls arent friendly.(well the ones we met) so dnt think you go there to make friends coz u dnt,
everybody we spoke to said its changed so much since last year. so i would advise not to stay in these apartments unless you plan to be sleeping evry night by 9pm.i maybe would go back to santa ponsa but never these apartments.

Just got home from 1 week at...

Just got home from 1 week at Portofino. This was our first time at Majorca.
Apartments were good size with excellent air-conditioning (20€ refundable deposit). Staff were friendly and polite, with rooms cleaned 3 times during the week, there was a promise of fresh towels every day, but this wasn't quite lived up to. Even though we were on the fourth floor there was evidence of ants, mainly confined to the balcony. Overall clean enough though, but there always seemed to be sand on the floor!
THE BALCONY !!! - Superb views (the bay only between opposite buildings), but view to hillside etc was still there from this level. We spent most of our time in the apartment on the balcony (Ant spray was provided in the apartments); a good area with table and chairs.
Only downside about the apartments was the regular noise from our neighbours,. who seemed intent to make a nuisance of themselves every night, despite several warnings from the management. (our rep said that noise related nuisances would be ejected after a first warning, pity this lot were given at least three. But on our last night the night porter was subjected to chanting and cheek, whilst asking for quite just after midnight. You could here the noise half way across the building even inside the lift. Hopefully this party are looking for new accomodation, for their second week, as I write this).
I would recommend the Portofino Apartments to anyone going to Santa Ponsa.
However, Santa Ponsa itself was very expensive in general, with many items dearer than at home in UK. Prices for identical items varied widely from shop to shop, but in general very expensive. I believe that if the cost of living there had been more reasonable, we would have spent more money overall. I was very conscoius of the high prices everytime we went shopping.

The apartment was the best we've...
9 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs A Palmer

The apartment was the best we've stayed in. The beds were very comfortable, the lounge was huge as was the balcany that overlooked the beach and we had a lovely view of the sea (the higher you can be placed, the better the view).
The bathroom was a good size too. The kitchen area was quite small, but not a problem. There was no kettle and only a small sauspan, frying pan and griddle pan. The apartment was clean and fresh towels were dropped off 3 times in the week we were there and was swept through and floors mopped over once, but again, no problem for us. The only thing that got on my nerves was that our room was opposite the lift and people coming back to their rooms seemed to forget that it was the early hours of the morning and not the middle of the day! They were not quiet. Laughing, talking, high heels clip clopping and seemed to have no idea that shouting to each other from one end of the landing to the other would disturb those trying to sleep. They had no consideration for other people! Sod living next door to THEM - bet their neighbours were glad they'd gone away for a week or two!!
We arrived around 9.30pm (2 hours later than expected) because someone had mislaid their suitcase and the coaches that met us at the airport had to be searched incase it had been loaded onto the wrong one. When we finally arrived at the Portofino, there was lots of music and activity coming from the beach. We nipped into RICKY'S (I know, I read the bad rewiews too, but we were starving and it was convenient) and had a lovely meal - very good value for money and the staff were very welcoming and pleasant. It took 15 mins from order to being served (I timed it). Anyway, when we had been fed and watered, we wandered over to the beach to see what was going on. There was a fair and a stage set up with one of many Spanish groups singing their little hearts out. We found out that we had arrived at the start of the FIESTA. OMG.... It went on every night until 4am! There was no sleeping until it finished at midnight on Sunday evening! It seemed that the later it got, the LOUDER it got! There was just no sleeping through it - it wasn't even melodic - it was nothing but wailing! The apartment was on what I called the main road and the 'locals' were very verbal after the 'entertainment' each night on their way home. Scooters tooting their horns and people shouting at each other from one end of the road to the other.... so really, our holiday didn't start until Monday! I felt for the people who had brought children with them.
I mentioned Ricky's and I recommend it. The meals were very good value and good portions. The staff were friendly and helpful. We also found a nice place which served good old home cooking called MISTY'S (thats left as you leave the apartments). Again, excellent value for money and very friendly. We also tried a place called BOBBY'S (just before Misty's). We went in there for breakfast one morning. Our order was taken by a little girl aged about 10! We waited so long, I ended up with burned shoulders! Anyway, when the meal turned up (about lunch time I think), the woman who brought our order did nothing but complain about how 'stressed' she was because she was on her own. Her hair looked as though it hadn't been washed for a week and she'd been bitten from head to foot - not a good look when you're serving food to people. So, I'd give that one a miss!
If you're a smoker, make sure you take a couple of packets with you as cigarettes are not sold in the shops. You can buy them in machines in some bars, but they're expensive. You can get them cheaper in the cigarette shops (they are all the same price, so don't bother wandering up and down looking at prices) but they shut at 8pm. So, if you arrive late, you won't get any until they open at 10am.
We've been to Santa Ponsa before (2 years ago) so we had done the trips on offer (except the Pirates which apparently is fantastic) but we were told by our rep that these days, some of the trips which are offered cheaper on street corners are not all they seem to be - mainly the boat trips. Once they have you on board and 'trapped', they start to hard sell their products and when its too late to escape - you are bombarded with their sales pitch. AND, can you belive this, some of them tell you that you have a MEDICAL! Whats THAT all about?? Naughty, eh?
When you leave the apartment and go right, you will eventually come to the area which is called the 'Irish quarter' (following the beach) here you will find more bars, gift shops, cafe's and restaurants. I found that the prices were much higher for gifts etc, than they were at 'our' end.
If you follow the road all the way round to the left when you reach the top of the hill (walking along the beach side), you will eventually come to the area they call the SQUARE. Its quite a trek, but if you like a good walk, its worth it. There is entertainment every night. We found it by accident as no one told us about it! Anyway, once you're there, there are more bars and shops around the outside of the square and drinks are served at the table for you (if you can find one). Its a good night and the kids are involved in games etc while the acts have their 15 min break.
You can wait for a cab when the entertainment is over (about half 11) and it costs less than 5 euro's to get back to the apartment.
During the day, as well as the beach opposite, there is another little secluded beach further along if you follow the road (passed Misty's). You can't get lost as its a straight walk. The locals take it over at weekends and when the kids are off school, so not much room to move then.
The Portofino has two swimming pools at your disposal. My husband went to use either one and found that one was chockablock with local kids and the other with Swedish holiday makers, so he gave them a miss and used the beach.
We sat on our balcany in the late evening and watched the beach being cleaned and 'combed' - the resort is kept clean and its a nice place. So, for a self catering holiday, its one of the best we've had.
I must just mention the reps..... they were bloody useless! They didn't have a clue. It was just a cheap way to get a summer tan! One told us that the baggage limit was 18 kilo's with a fine of 10 euro's for every kilo you went over at the check in desk. The apartment has a baggage weighing machine at reception which you can use for 1 euro, so there we all were, weighing our luggage. We weighed our larger case and found it was just over 20 kilo's and re-packed it leaving behind what we thought was a bit heavy - towels, our new kettle that we'd bought for the trip and anything else we thought would weigh us down. When we got on the coach, the other rep (just before she jumped off at the next resort) told us that the maximum baggage weight was 20 kilo's!! So we were well under weight! Bloody reps! Money for old rope! Check your tickets for maximum weight - we didn't realise that it was printed on them.
I could do this 'review' thing for a living!!!
Enjoy your holiday. :-D
