very very dissatisfied. came to rest but all we could hear was the cleaning ladies very early pulling the furniture up and down shouting one to the other. This was happening all the week i was staying there. we even had to pay for the tv and ac remote to be provided.

We stayed at the Hilltop gardens for 11 nights during July and August 2010. We booked this hotel as we were looking for a base to stay while visiting friends who live nearby. When we arrived we were pleased to find a clean apartment next to a quiet pool. The decor was fresh... more

I went to Hilltop Gardens last year, and had the most fantastic time. Things didnt get off to a fantastic start, when we pulled up, it looked pathetic compared to the big fancy hotels we'd just dropped people off at.. Later on that evening we had problems with the air... more

My boyfriend and I stayed here and found it to be a good base for us as we wanted to hire a car and explore Cyprus. When we weren't out we were sunbathing by the pool, which was pleasant and at 25 years old we were the youngest there by quite a bit which we viewed as a good... more

This is probably the worst place my wife and I have stayed. Although we didn’t pay much, I thought they had a cheek charging at all. The facilities were really poor both in our room and in the hotel. The room although superficially clean was in fact filthy, the beds... more

They say you get what you pay for, and this is classified as a 2* according to tour operators so don't expect luxury, but it is clean, comfortable and excellent value. We booked with freedomdirect and paid a total of £173 for 7 nights for 2 people B&B. What ratings and... more

Dispelled the critics
After reading some very mixed reviews ranging from terrible to excellent we decided the only way to find out was to go & see for ourselves so off we went to spend Christmas at The Hilltop Garden Hotel Apartments. Our package came with free car hire & despite the diversions due to roadworks, the directions provided were excellent & took us straight to the door without a hitch. First impressions were that the hotel was a little dated but the rooms were spacious & well appointed. They were cleaned every other day along with change of towels. There is a poolside bar which also serves a range of snacks however there are numerous bars & taverns within easy walking distance if you fancy either something more authentic or basic pub grub! The pool was immaculate & was cleaned every morning. The bus stop is only a few minutes away & buses run into town about every 15 minutes. Although we had a car, we still preferred to walk into town at night. The harbour takes about 40 minutes whilst the old town takes about 50 minutes. If you don't fancy the walk back there are plenty of taxis about but agree your fare first! Although we went over Christmas there was still plenty of bars & restaurants open & there was no problem at all finding somewhere to eat on Christmas day - providing you don't expect a turkey dinner! We can certainly recommend Trata Restaurant which is on the way to the harbour for good local food. Nearly all the reviews we read praised the hotel staff for their helpful & friendly service - and they weren't wrong! The staff were terrific & always made you feel welcome. Overall this is basic, no frills accommodation. We are not ones for lounging around the pool all day & sitting in the bar all night (I prefer to sit in lots of bars!!) so The Hilltop Gardens suited us down to the ground. A 5 Star hotel it is not so don't be under any illusions but at less than £300 a week over Christmas then it represents great value for money. If this is the sort of holiday that you are looking for then look no further. And the final question that people ask - "would you go back?" - the answer is a definite YES!
What a shock
We have just returned from Hilltop Gardens apartments in Paphos, Cyprus, where we stayed before 8 years ago. We had a real shock to see how the developers are totally wrecking this erstwhile beautiful island with block upon block of ugly tourist buildings! We thought we knew where Hilltop Gardens were, but we spent 20 minutes trying to find it amongst all the new villas and apartment blocks! Cyprus is cutting its own throat by all this appalling development going on, and we were sad to see that. However, Hilltop Gardens does not change and we had a very comfortable apartment, spacious and with all the mod. cons. we could have hoped for. They really do give a good service. The only thing that could be sharpened up a bit is the cleaning, which, although it happens every other day, is very sketchy and certainly (in my experience, having lost an earring there) doesn't cover underneath the beds or round the edges of the floors! Apart from that, the staff are charming and friendly (which is more than could be said for our fellow residents at the time we stayed!). We would certainly go back there.
Good Value For Money
We travelled here on a last minute holiday paying less than £200 pounds each the hotel was tired but the staff were friendly. The pool was small but it was to cold to use anyway. The bus stop was a stones throw away and we travelled everywhere on it.Cyprus is lovely loads to do check out all the offers on the trips very competetive good food nice people would go again.
Worth a visit
The season was almost ending when we travelled in late October, but the weather was still very hot. The Hilltop was a bit out of the way, but only a short walk to the bus stop-bus travel is cheap and the harbour is a good place to go. We had a brilliant boat ride from there, and even saw a a wedding party on a nearby boat. There were a couple of nearby shops, and plenty of eating places within walking distance too. The Hilltop itself had a poolside bar, and we had breakfast there daily, as well as a few drinks during the day if lounging by the pool. The staff at the bar and in the hotel were chatty and friendly, and the rooms cleaned daily. My only gripe was that the pool was grubby, with a dirty tide mark round the edges, and full of dead bugs and insects. I did not see anyone attempt to scoop them up, which surprised me a bit. Perhaps it was because things were slowing down, and not so many people were there as the season was ending. I did manage a few swims though, and, despite the hot weather, the pool was absolutely freezing! A fellow holiday maker used to "Take the leap of faith" by jumping in and then yelling about how cold it was-amusing, really!. Once in though, you soon warmed up. Al in all a great holiday, and I hope I* get the chance to go again one day.
Lovely Hotel
we enjoyed A lovely 2 week stay at the Hilltop. Staff are extremly friendly and helpful, cant do enough for you. Rooms are cleaned daily or every other day, pool is big enough as not too busy also that is cleaned. Hotel gave us what we wanted, clean rooms, nice pool, balacany, friendly staff. Air-con can be purchased as its very hot but we was only really there at night so didnt bother. All in all a super hotel, more then what you'd expect from a 2* hotel by far!! We will be back Robin, Andrea, Sam and Dibo......
quite nice budget accomodation
we were quite surprised at some comments about this small complex of apartments, the bad points being if you get a ground floor apartment you can here the water works of the above apartments, the one we had had a birds nest outside our door and if you dont mind birds cheaping well thats ok, it was a little tacky probably needs a little tlc and updating abit, but generally clean as it could be, the grounds around apartment could be alot better with no grass little flowers and plastic water pipes on view in every corner of complex, they had a little shop on site it was ok for basics water etc and was quite pricey, along with the pool bar pricey as well. The good points were staff very friendly nice size pool apartments round the pool looked better. For the money we paid for the holiday being a last minute holiday it was what we were expecting for under £200 for 1 week , we had a nice relaxing time here abit of a walk to the main bars but value for money for what we paid.
Shabby
This was the worst accomodation I have ever had on holiday. You couldn't write into "holidays from hell" about anything, but it was just shabby & tired. I was a walk off the main coast road, very dark at night. Once you do get to the coast road the bus stop is another trek & the busses are not frequent. There is almost nothing there on the main road, so you have to go into Pathos, about 3 miles (at least). The apartments are tired & a bit old fashioned, they are not really clean either. Was kept awake at night by chained up dogs barking outside locals block of flats behind. NO AIR CON & in July & August you really need it. In June & September its a good idea too. Crappy fans for hire. Pool was a bit grotty, I wouldn't swim in it. I might sound fussy, but all I really care about is that my accomodation is clean & in a good location, this fails on both.
Great first holiday
first time abroad, first holiday ever in 35 years marriage and we are going to book the same holiday for next year. clean and friendly accomodation, basic but included a fridge and a safe. pool was good too. in a good location for us as we dont mind walking but the local buses run often at little cost . would recommend hiring a car to see as much of cyprus as you can but if all you want to do is sit on your balcony or lie by the pool you cant go wrong here.
The Best
We have just returned from another stay at the Hilltop Gardens. Once again the apartments gave full value for money. There were gripes from one couple who had been missold their holiday, but as I pointed out to them that was not the fault of the Hilltop gardens staff who bent over backwards to accommodate their rediculous demands. We have been staying at the Hilltop gardens for 15 years on and off and have never had a bad or even poor time. I read the complaints list and am angered by those people who just do not understand or have not researched their holiday, you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Hilltop gardens does not make any pretentions to be anything other than self catering apartments with a pool and bar, why then should people arrive and then complain because it is not a five star hotel? Well done Andry and Bella you make the Hilltop what it is.
Cheap and cheerful
My cousin and I stayed in the Hilltop Gardens in Oct/Nov 2004, and for the price we paid, it wasn't a bad spot at all. A bit out of the way, yes, but the bus service is regular (70p all over the Paphos province) and if you want to shed a few pounds the harbour is a good 25 minute walk away. Car hire is abundant, so if you can afford it, take a few extra quid and check out some of the prices. There is a bar and shop on site (however there is a shop on the main road directly facing the pool area, 5 minutes from Hilltop, I recommend that instead). Our apartment was cleaned regularly, with ben linen and toilet rolls replaced, so no complaint there. All I wanted was somewhere to put my head down and get washed, and that's exactly what I got. My main gripe was with the lack of entertainment in Paphos itself. Most bars in the infamous 'Bar Street' (situated behind McDonalds) had 10-15 people in them tops; most were either locals, ex-pats or tour-reps. The only place that stayed open anyway late was Boogies Karaoke Bar, and we spent quite a bit of time in there. The Hollywood Bar, with Lawrie the Aussie barman is also quite good. Drink prices are more or less on a par with home, with headlockers trying to get you in by offering you the usual '4 free shots', etc. There are no shortage of eating places and corner shops, which are quite handy if you run out of cigarettes at midnight. All in all a decent spot for a holiday. Beware that even in November the weather is still very hot.
