As accommodation was covered in our awards, we went for what, I guess, would classify as luxury accommodation, in a shared room at the four-star SunStar Hotel. Typically expensive, this hotel charged 340 CHF (around £140) per night (breakfast included) for a twin room. The rooms were clean, neat, but sadly lacking tea-making facilities; an absolute must for the post-piste/pre-party hours. The sauna and swimming pool made up for this deficiency, and were great for post boarding stiffness. The hotel was conveniently located for Jakobshorn, which has some lovely wide blue-runs, perfect for beginner boarders.
The nightlife in Davos is hardly the stuff of legend, the resort prices tending to limit the clientele to family-types, but we found the Chamney bar (probably called the chimney bar in English, as plenty of chimney sweeps found on the wall) to be the best of the bunch, but closing at 12-ish, the late night drinking hole was the Cabana Club, which shuts its doors at 4, and was a real laugh. Surprisingly, drinks were reasonably cheap, with a round for four weighing in just over a tenner.
Despite Davos being relatively expensive, and probably better geared for skiers than boarders (too many violent T-bars for my liking) I absolutely loved it, and reckon its well worth a go. Several boarders I met recommended the local youth hostel, which they reckoned was only £20 a night. The nightlife was a bit sparse, but plenty for a week of entertainment, and this was more than made up by the amazing runs on the Parsenn and Jakobshorn.
