Holiday from hell
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel kaya belek is not a 5 star resort at all .the rooms are filthy especially carpets and bedding.Although the views are lovely if you get apool view. The pool itself is nice but isn't that clean and not tested as it should be. It is a mainly russian and german orientated hotel, with not many employees understanding english, so you might as well forget the entertainment or making any conversation with the staff. Food is ok with a large selection of an evening but ,there is no air con in the restaurant so it is far too hot to sit for very long and it is difficult so say if the food is that fresh.and as there is not air con doors are left open which attracts insects and the birds to fly around the restaurant whilst you are eating
kaya Belek was great for some

My wife and children aged 16,14 & 12 had a great time at this hotel. The hotel is a large spacious complex. In my opinion it is probably not quite 5 star, but still very good. We were there for 2 weeks fully inclusive. The food throughout was good, a little bit of queuing but nothing to bad. I should say that the restaurant has no air conditioning and this was disappointing. We also went to the themed restaurants BBQ and Fish, these you have to book in advance (and queue to book). I thought the staff were excellent and hard working, in the bars they couldn’t serve you quick enough. The beer - Tuborg was a bit naff. As others have said the rooms are a bit scruffy and I would agree, although they are cleaned every day by the maids. The hotel grounds are spotless with an army of sweepers, cleaners, gardeners on duty. Day entertainment was great for all, with a friendly bunch of non-British "the crazy kaya Belek animation team". However, I thought the night entertainment was dreadful. We booked a couple of trips in town, not through Thomas Cook, and they were great - particularly the rafting. In week 1 all the beds around the pool seemed to have been reserved by 7.15 ish but in week 2 still available at about 9.00. There are more Brits than I thought there, but lots of Germans and Russians. I hope this report helps. On Aug 17 the Sun run the article "31 Brits in bug hell" - there seemed to be an incredible number of people ill during our stay my wife and youngest son included, with sickness, diarrhoea and also ear infections. We all got an unsigned letter 2 days later from Thomas Cook, which was a bit odd - it had no address or phone number from where it had originated but said that independent hygiene consultants were on site. The pool had to be closed a couple of times as people were "ill" in the pool.
Great Hotel but Not 5*

We stayed at the Kaya Belek Hotel in Turkey for a week in August, which was a late booking. We were really excited about staying in a 5* Hotel but unfortunately I happened to read some reviews on the Hotel not being up to 5 stars. Immediately when we arrived I took my stepson and his girlfriend to their room which was a Annex Room on the top floor. These rooms are smaller than most of the other Hotel rooms but have an impressive balcony. My husband and I checked over their room and everything seems okay but straight away we could see they were not up to 5 star standard. My husband and I then went to our room, we complained straight away as we were overlooking a building site and the carpets in our room were filthy. We got shown to another room but this again had filthy carpets. We returned to our original room and when down and complained in the morning as it was 5 am. We immediately got shown to a room which overlooked the pool and beach and it was a much better standard than the others, but still had mucky carpets. The Hotel is due for refurbishment in the Winter 2005 but Thomas Cook should not advertise it as 5 stars until it is refurbished. Even though the rooms were not of a high standard every other aspect of the hotel was fantastic. My step-son is extremely picky with his food and I've never seen him eat such a variety. There was loads to choose from and other of choice. We enjoyed sitting in the Pool Bar listening to the live bands in the evening and found the waiters extremely helpful and polite. The beach and sea were very clean and we never had a problem getting sun loungers no matter what time in the day we went down to the beach.
5* stomach upsets all for under £4000!!-at Kaya Belek.

After spending a fantasic holiday in Kaya Side in Aug 2004 we were looking forward with great anticipation to spending this year at Kaya Belek....unfortunately this hotel is not in the same league. The room when we arrived at 3.30am was only made up for 3 people (there were 4 of us). The food was much to be desired repetative and often cold!! The Al La Carte restaurants were near impossible to book-having to sit in the lobby area from 8am to try and fight the germans for one of the 40 seats available! Many of the children who swam in the complex pool suffered from ear infections which the rep was extremely quick to make sure we "understood" that it wasnt the pools!! She offered no other support. Infact we very rarely set eyes on her. A visit to the docs cost 60 euros- no wonder he was pleasant. The best was yet to come- our second week......Our 11yr old woke during the night with uncontrolable diarrhoea and vomitting, we kept him in the room for 24hrs the next day didnt feel too bad so sat in the shade by the pool-he stood up a collapsed, later on he vomitted. after informing the pool bar staff (who immediately "didnt understand") I ended up going to reception in a bikini to get someones attention!! At 10pm that night the vomit was stiil uncleared by the pool!! What 5* service. Our daughter (4) followed with worse symptoms. Her vomitting was projectile and left a terrible mess on the carpet after an hour of waiting for clean bedding-the guy said it would be cleaned tomorrow-we were left with a vomit filled carpet to content with that didnt smell too pleasant esp in the heat!! We had to throw underwear and clothing away because the mess and intense smell was that great. This has knocked her confidence greatly- esp as shes due to begin school on Sept. Both myself and my husband suffered the same symptoms-except we had exteme stomach pains and cramps that prevented us from walking. The gala night was a total let down compared to the effort that was put into the event at Kaya Side. We beleive that the hotel in being closed at Christmas for a total refurb- about time seeing as it was voted the best Thomas Cook all inclusive horel in 2003- its definatley not 5* more like 3*. By the way if you expect to sit in the no smoking area of the hotel restaurant its highly likey that youll sit next to a smoker ( as it seems hotel policy to let the Germans & Russians smoke where they like!!) We have never had a dissapointing holiday with Thomas Cook but I doublt very much whether we will use ther company again. Ours health problems werent issolated there where people vomitting all over the hotel- but the customer relations lady assured me the hotel didnt have a problem. Look forwardto hearing from anyone else sufferin the same problems as ourselves.
Hotel to miss
from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel 24 July-1 August. It is definitely not a 5 star, more like 3 star, impressive reception but shabby rooms with very small balconies. A very noisy hotel as you would expect from a family hotel, so miss this one if you want a peaceful holiday. Predominately Germans and Russians - very few british, intertainment is for families and you have to wait for all the interpretations. With the germans learn... Es gibt eine Warteschlange - (there is a queue) Pools are okay for familes but beach is mixed with sand and shingle, water is deep. Food was availbale 7.30am - 9.30 pm and a superb choice so we ate and drank exclusively at this "5 star" hotel..... but I managed to get a stomach bug on our 6 th day-on the last day I was admitted into the "convenient" private hospital with food poisoning and dehydration, missing our flight and stuck in Turkey. The Thomas Cook rep was no help whatsover and just ignored us. We had to arrange all our flight and taxis finally to the homeward flight. Ensure you have a good medical insurance!! This Hotel is one of 4 or 5 next the beach, no shops and conveniently there is a private hospital nearby. If you are admitted there they will keep you there as long as possible for the moneyas we found out. If you "shop" in Belek, be prepared to be pestered all the time as you cannot window shop - before you know it they will have you in the shop drinking apple tea. ps... 'cheaper than tesco and asda' they use this comparison a lot, but most of the goods are fake and not cheaper.
Going to be refurbished!
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Hotel itself and facilities are VERY good, foyer area lovely, gardens immaculate, staff friendly and helpfull, beach clean and tidy, food amazing! I've never seen my kids enjoy HEALTHY food as much! but they made up for that with the unbelievable selection of cakes and jellies!! The ONE letdown was our room. The carpet was filthy...........really disgusting. The patio doors were dirty when we arrived and were not cleaned during the two weeks we were there. 10 coathangers for 4 people!!!! The sofa bed was dirty and due to the construction of a buliding next door the VERY small balcony was dusty and had badly stained patio furniture. However we learned that the hotel is closing for refurbishment this winter and I would not hesitate to return as every other aspect was first class. The outdoor amphitheatre used for evening entertainment is not large enough to accomodate all guests and when competing with the Germans and the Russians, the ever polite Brits had no hope!! So most evenings were spent in the lovely air conditioned lounge which housed a second stage area, we assume used for the not so lovely weather! unfortunately (and these WERE mostly Brits!) the platform made a noisy stomping ground for assorted toddlers and children, who's parents must have been deaf as they were blissfully ignoring the ear splitting bangs and screeches of thier offspring bouncing on the staging! especially when our room was directly above and the sounds echoed!! My advice would be that if you are thinking of going to Kaya Belek, hold off until next year, when I'm sure it will be restored to 5* . For those going this year, don't worry too much! after all, when there is so much to do during the day.......water sport, animation events, horse riding and the pools all you want to do in the evenings are sleep anyway! ps Pack something Black and White for Gala night, it is a wonderfull evening!
Hotel not as Hot as the weather!
from Pixie925
We (Hubby, kids & I) have just returned from the Kaya Belek. It is a lovely hotel in pleasant surroundings but we did not think it deserves the 5 star rating it has been awarded, more like 3 +. The night entertainment was Crap especially in the Pool Bar, repetative music that drove us nuts. There is a ampitheatre with nightly shows but we did not get to see one as you could never get a seat! Food was very good, with themed nights, freshly cooked but the ques for the food outside where so long by the time you got everything you wanted the food would be luke warm. Don't expect a Full English breakfast. Hubby was gutted there was'nt any bacon. Lots of nationalities mostly German and Russian, who we found to be the most rude and ignorant people we've ever met. Not many British on our 1st week but a few more arrived on our 2nd but were not really catered for. Best part of our Holiday was the BBQ restuarant next to the beach. Absolutely brilliant waiters especially Almed, he was the only thing 5 star. Our room had a beautiful view over the pool and sea - room itself needs updating but it was clean with the maids coming in everyday to change our bed linen, bathroom towels and to re-stock the mini bar. Air conditioning not very good. Beach is lovely, sea is warm and very salty. Watersports brilliant. Weather was very hot in the 40's most days. Take plenty of good quality sun cream. The shop at the hotel wanted £25 english for a bottle of Nivea! We took Turkish Lira, but really should of took euro or kept to English. Go on the Jeep Safari - brilliant day out for all ages. Had a relaxing time but we will not be returning.

I went to the Kaya Belek Hotel in July 2004 for a week. The hotel is brilliant i have no bad poins about it!! it has themed food evenings (like chinese, french) but if you decide that you do not fancy it - there is a BBQ outside for all you chip and meat lovers!! There is a BBQ right by the beach! the staff are friendly and helpful! the pool is amazing and the weather was lovely and hot!! there is a little town down the road! with cheap cocktails!! yay! I am returing this year in October for 2 weeks!! I give this holiday a 10 out of 10 - no complaints at all!! It is everything that you need for a nice relaxing holiday!
Not Five Star
from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just returned from a weeks holiday in this hotel and feel I must point out that it is more like a 3 star hotel not 5 star as is claimed. I was disappointed with the standard of our room which was furnished with a rather tatty stained worn carpet and our rather too small quilt had cigerette burns in it. The evening entertainment left a lot to be desired and the food nothing special. on the plus side the beach and pool area are lovely and the pool bar looks out over the sea which makes for a beautiful view with the mountains as a back drop. i would not return to this hotel.

went to the kaya belek in Feb.2003 for a week. first time to turkey, was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and decor. Found hotel staff quite helpful, but receptionists a bit offhand. the weather was very good for that time of year, was able to sunbathe for two days out of six! took the dolmus into kadryie ( dont take the taxi's ) they will only drop you off at the shops which pay them commission and insist on picking you back up, after you have spent money in those shops! if you want to go on a trip, dont book with the reps, but go into kadryie and check out the local trip companies, much cheaper and better value! we did a deal with them and filled a mini bus up from the hotel, had a fab.day out for about £8.each including lunch, visited a diamond factory and had a leather fashion show later on also went to the market. hotel entertainment not very good, but the rest of the time was great. Beware, if you go for a massage - my daughter and I had one each, came out feeling a little bruised! make sure you say GENTLE! went out a couple of nights to eat in kadryie ( wonderful meal and drinks ) very very cheap and enjoyable, the locals are wonderful. all in all a very good value for money holiday, will go again.

We stayed from 12th to 27th. October.2010. The hotel was all you might expect of a locally rated 5 star hotel. Cleanliness and staff motivation are clearly priorities here, as both were faultless. Rooms are well decorated and airy & all have a sea view of sorts. Food in... more
