Value for money if booked way in advance. Check out their website on the best deals available. I like Travelodge Edinburgh Central because of its location, just off the Royal Mile, right smack in the middle of the tourist attractions. Most of the local interests are within walking distance.
The room itself is clean & tidy with basic amenities provided (TV, towel, kettle). One problem though is that the shower curtain is too short so you can expect a puddle in the bathroom after you've taken a shower. If you forgot your toothbrush, you can easily buy it from the vending machine at the ground floor. If you drive, they do charge for parking. Other than that, I found out that they serve free coffees at the lounge/waiting area as well.
Great if you are on a shoestring budget as it is a decent hotel to stay in. I'll be trying other Travelodge hotel as well from now on.

Fantastic value for money with their saver room offer £26 Per Room per Night.
Very clean, friendly and quiet. Meals available and bar open till 2am midweek and 4am weekends.
Excellent location close to all the main amenities. Princess Street for shopping only 15 min walk, Edinburgh Castle only 10 min walk. Lots of restaurants and bars, plenty for all ages to do.

Excellent location and really good value for Money. I got the room three months in advance and was charged £19. The rooms were large and clean with a modern bathroom and flat screen TV. The hotel is very modern and has a meal and bar service available.
The location in the old town was ideal. Less than 10 minutes walk to Waverley Station and a few minutes from the Scottish parliament Building. Situated just off the Royal Mile in the Old Town you would be foolish to consider anywhere else given the money. If you turned up on the day you probably could get a better rate elsewhere though so do try to book well ahead.
Only niggle was that the shower did drip all over the bathroom floor and that the cleaners are up bright and breezy in the morning.
A really good base to sleep in.
