Right on Princes St, so good for...

Right on Princes St, so good for shopping and other holiday activities and overlooking Edinburgh castle.
Good pricing for such a city centre location, and the rooms in good order, comfortable, and well equipped. Food was good at both breakfast and evening meal, and plenty of it.
Recommended for travellers of all budgets, and ideally situated for Edinburgh’s famous nightlife.

I stayed at the Old Waverley for two nights in February 2007, and again in February 2008. Apart from the fact that the staff was not helpful, that the smell of the "Lush" shop downstairs permeated the whole building and that the restaurant is very average and extremely overpriced, there is a definite hygiene problem. I stayed in three different rooms and was bitten by bedbus in all three of them. Despite the fact that I actually caught some of the bugs and showed them at reception, they did not believe me - or pretended not to. The management have never answered my mails and never any apology whatsoever.
