Good Value
We stayed her for 2 nights in August. The location was great, 10 mins walk to the royal mile, 5 mins to princes street ( a bit of an uphill pull, but downhill coming home!) Rooms where comfortable and clean, staff very friendly. There are no lifts or aircon ( it was a bit warm) but it made up for it with bags of character. Would definetly reccomend.
Very good value
We decided to have a Summer break to Scotland and wanted to try and keep the cost down as we had also booked a cruise for later in the year. My first choice was for a hotel belonging to one of the budget chains. They are fine for one night stops or business trips but this was for a holiday stay of three nights. I eventually decided to up my budget a bit and booked the Royal Scots Club. I definitely made the right decision! Although our room was in a semi basement area, it was large with lots of room and storage space. Every amenity... more
Warm and Friendly
My friend and I stayed for two nights in April 2006. I'd definitely stay again. Our twin room was clean and spacious, with a view of the courtyard and the sea. Lovely cooked traditional Scottish breakfast (including fresh cranberry juice; having only ever drunk cranberry classic before, I now have to go and find out where to get some of the good stuff!) We didn't sample their dinner menu as we ate out. The hotel staff were accommodating and friendly and allowed us to check in before time, as well as prepare a light breakfast for us when... more
Old world ambience
Our family (2 adults & 2 children: 7 and 11 years) stayed for 3 nights. We had a large family room (number 8), facing towards the courtyard - however, as we we're in the top floor, we could see over the roof tops to the sea (Firth of Forth)! Bed was very large and comfortable. Children's bed was a sofa bed. Bathroom (with bath tub and shower) was spacious and clean. Complimentary tea, coffee, mineral water etc were provided. The room was very quiet. The dining room was beautiful, with traditional style and views towards the Queen Street... more
Friendly eccentricities
Stayed two nights under January deal with dinner included one night. Meal was quite good in a lovely traditional setting. Bedroom really nice with all the facilities of 4 star if not more. Very clean bathroom with good shower.Because it is a converted town house, stairs are needed for access to bedrooms and dining room and are quite steep. Bar very clubbable and some friendly veterans to talk to. Staff very friendly and welcoming and I got the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble for them. Overall, a nice place, very well situated... more
Dignified charm
I visited the Royal Scots Club for two nights, on a business visit. Nice location, a 10 minute walk (past Harvey Nicks!) from Waverley train station, and behind Queen Street gardens- very pretty in October! All the hotel staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and we started off on the right foot when I arrived, tired from travelling and work, to be told I had been given a complimentary upgrade to a four poster room. This room was magnificent; elegantly swagged windows, chaise-longue, and the incredible upholstered bed- I... more
Royal Scots a Royal Value
Booked Royal Scots Club in New Town for three nights in August and was greatly impressed with quality of accomodations, including breakfast. However, the real surprise was convenience of public bus transportation less than a block away that took us directly to Royal Mile and the center of Old Town.
A nice room at a good price.
My wife and I stayed for two nights. The first night we stayed on the main street. It was a little loud due to passing traffic. During the morning of our second day stay, I mentioned to the front desk that we were awakened by the noise. She was most helpful and moved us to a wonderful room. It was clean and very large. It had a very large bed and nice facilities. We would stay there again if the chance presents itself. We really enjoyed the fact that it was within walking distance of the major attractions. We also enjoyed the feel... more
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible
If you like faulty towers, this is the place for you.Paid £95 to sleep in a freezing cold and dirty room on a double foldaway camp bed. Despite complaining we were not offered a reduction in room rate or an alternative room. We tired to make the best of a bad situation and went out for dinner. When we arrived back to our room (10pm) 2 feet way from our door (no joke) two buffet tables had been set up and a gathering was assembled having drinks. Yes that's right, people were having a party outside our room! We complained again and the... more
